Thirty minutes and 9 paragraphs into an excited list of alternatives to Spotify's monopoly re: music, videos, podcasts, audiobooks, for weenies like me who are nervous about pirating, and my app crashes.

Well now I'm on a laptop and I swear to god if this crashes too I'm calling it a conspiracy.

LEGAL ALTERNATIVES TO SPOTIFY:

Music: There are virtually limitless options here. Buy music directly from the musicians/band! If they don't sell mp3s directly from their site, they almost certainly have CDs for sale, so buy those and rip the mp3s to your computer (if your computer doesn't have a CD slot, you can buy an external one for fairly cheap). Go to a new/used music store, they still exist!, and buy albums there. Buy old albums from ebay! Go to goodwill or other thrift stores and browse there collection of cast-off music for cheap, you never know what you'll find. Hell, browse their cheap vinyl if you prefer their sound and get a vinyl-to-MP3 conversion device if you like. They even have conversion devices for cassette tapes, if you find a treasure that was only ever released on tape. Once upon a time I would have said Bandcamp for MP3 or even physical albums (I once upon a time got an AUTOGRAPHED TO MY NAME CD of Lauren Ruth Ward's Well Hell album), but they recently union busted and a lot of artists pulled their stuff from them. I don't really know anything about 7Digital's business practices, but they are another seller of MP3 music, as well as MP4, FLAC, and WAV.

Music DEVICES: If you just want to manage everything on one device, your phone, get the free VLC app! It's open source and is absolutely wonderful. I only ever used it for music, but it's capable of much more than I realized, and it's open source and ad-free! And the audio files are tiny, even when I was running out of room on my sixteen gig old phone, I still had a substantial music library on it before before I got a dedicated music player.

Which brings me to my next point: MP3 PLAYERS STILL EXIST! I own two! My first one is a twenty-dollar SanDisk Clip Jam (an established and sturdy brand), my current is a thirty-dollar Phinistec Z6 (that just came out of nowhere it seems). Each have their pros and cons, and there are so so so many options out there. Some are smart, some don't even have wifi (neither of mine do). Some have expandable card slots for even more music. Some are extremely basic, some have a plethora of features. Some are cheap but still decent in sound, some are high-end for that true audiophile experience. Some have touch screens, some have buttons, some have no screens at all. Some only use wired earphones, some only use bluetooth, some (like the Z6) can use both! There are so many brands out there even in Twenty Twenty-four. Even the random brands cropping up online are some really good shit, and I bought both of mine used bc I have concerns about the lithium industry. Oh, and some are regular battery powered. And you don't need iTunes or anything, I just use the basic Windows Media Player to rip my CDs or put mp3s music on my player. In fact I've been avoiding Apple players because I'm worried they'd brick older devices, especially ones with wifi. But there are so many options out there, it's impossible to name them all.

Audiobooks: YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE AUDIBLE! Libro.fm has a similar business model (an optional subscription fee with a free credit every month, or the option to buy book without a subscription for a little bit extra price), and you can direct the profits to the indie bookseller of your choice! I have mine set to go to Baltimore's anarcho-feminist bookstore, Red Emma's. How to listen to the audiobooks you buy? Libro has an app you can listen to directly from! AND they have the option to directly download from the site (meaning no program you have to install) the book in non-proprietary mp3/mp4 files so you can listen to it on any device that can use those files! THAT INCLUDES MP3 PLAYERS! Almost every music player on the market now not only plays audiobooks, but has sections on the device specifically for them! Some, like the Clip Jam, are even proprietary audible-compatible if you still use or already have books there (check audible's site, and you'll have to go thru a registration process). I was listening to audiobooks on both my CJ and the Z6 (the Z6 doesn't have a section for them, but still played them), but I recently bought an e-ink/e-paper (meaning no backlit LED screen causing eye strain or insomnia) ereader, a Pocketbook Touch HD 3, and that is mp3/mp4 capable for audiobooks, and is easier to maneuver books with since it's meant for books. ALSO: the library apps Hoopla and Libby also have audiobooks you can listen to via phone or computer/browser, depending on your library's catalog. Some ereaders can even have the apps for them, and if they have audiocapabilities you can use the ereader for that too.

Podcasts: There are so many apps for this. I have Podcast Addict (I don't remember off the top of my head if it's on apple, I use android, but there are still so many apps). Literally I only had to sacrifice one podcast when I stopped using spotify, PodcastAddict has everything else I've ever listened to or want to listen to in the future. You can download them for offline use on your phone, and, you guessed it, MOST MP3 PLAYERS HAVE PODCAST SECTIONS TOO. MINE DO! There are still ads at the beginning and end, but I usually skip over them without care.

Video: This one is a bit trickier as YouTube is also a monopoly, but what I do is just watch yt on my phone's Firefox browser with UBlock Origins adblocker installed. Sometimes yt gets into a hissy fit with adblocker, but UBlock usually gets ahead pretty quickly thus far. And if in the periods Origins is losing, I just find something else to do. I'm sure someone else has recommendations for videos, they're just not a big part of my life right now.

Anyway, don't let the horrid beast that is spotify monopoloize the audio industry OR your time! There are options, and even if you're not a luddite like me that hates having everything on my smartphone bc I'm worried about privacy or companies yoinking their stuff off my devices via wifi (like Amazon did once with their copies of, of all things, Nineteen Eighty-four about a decade ago) at the whim of corporations. You HAVE OPTIONS! YOU HAVE THE POWER TO CONTROL YOUR MEDIA AND REJECT MONOPOLIES!

Rosalina: Ah....Ah.....Ahchoo! Achoo! (Sneezing While Laying on her and Ryu's Bed......With a Cold)

Polari: (Passes a Box of Tissues Next to Rosalina) Gesundheit, Milady.

Rosalina: Thank you, Pol. (Pulls a Tissue Out of the Box and Uses it to Blow her Nose) ('Sigh') Goodness.....It's been so long since I've encountered a col- ('Achoo') ('Sigh') This nauseating......

Polari: I believe it was back when you were a lot younger when ypu last have it. So young and adventurous you were during tjose times.....(Crosses his Arms While Giving Rosalina a Fatherly Glare) That being said, you would mind telling me what on the cosmic atmosphere possesses you and Master Ryu into thinking that meditating under a waterfall of all places, was remotely a good idea?

Rosalina: It was part of our training routine for the day. Ryu's been telling me about all the times he would visit Niagara Falls to train during his travels. (Starts Twiddling her Fingers Around) It was so inspirational that I may have suggested that we try our very first waterfall meditation........(Starts Blushing a Bit) as a couple~

Polari: Mhm. And I suppose you were so in love with the idea that you never thought about the potential consequences coming towards your direction until until was too late. ('Sigh') And here I thought you've grown out of your premature naiveté by now.

Rosalina: (Starts Pouting at Polari) I have!~ It just..... never really occurred to me at the time is all.....

Polari: (Shrugs) Whatever you say, dear. (Smiles a Bit) I hope you two had a wonderful with one another regardless.

Rosalina: (Smiles Brightly) We did. There's not a day in the world I would ever not want us to spend time together.

Polari: (Simply Nodded) That's good. It's nice to see him make you the most happiest as you've ever been in recent years. He's a good man.

Rosalina: (Places her Hands onto her Chest) He is. (Hugs Herself) And love him every fiber and soul of my body~

'Knock Knock'

Rosalina: It's open!

Ryu: (Outside of the Room) Apologies. I would open the door myself if I wasn't holding a tray in my hands.

Polari: Ah. I got you, lad. (Opens the Door For Ryu)

Ryu: (Bows at Polari While Holding a Tray Holding Two Cups of Tea) Arigatō- (Suddenly Felt Polari's Hand on his Forehead) Hm?

Polari: Oh don't mind me. Just making sure you're not coming down with a cold as our naive princess in bed.

Rosalina: I'm not naive, Pol!

Ryu: (Smiles Sheepishly) I-I appericate your concern for me, sir, but there's really no need for you to worry. I've been meditating my body and mind for so many years now that I hardly ever get myself sick these days.

Polari: ('Sigh') I question your training methods sometimes, but if you're really positive that you're fine, then i suppose I'll take your word for-

A red Luma suddenly zips into the room before stopping and starts whispering into the Elder Luma's Ear as he nodding to every word given to him

Polari: Hm.....Mhmm....I see.......(Turns to the Red Luma with a Surprised Look on his Face) Again with this? I thought the pudding incident was all settled days ago!

Red Luma: (Shrugs)

Polari: (Facepalms Himself While Sighing) Fine, I'll see what I can do. They better have good explanation for this......

Ryu: Is something the matter, Polari sir?

Polari: ('Sigh') Something mildly urgent came up with at the Luma Committee I must attend to. Would you be a sport and take care of my stubborn, baby starlight for the time being?

Rosalina: Pol!

Polari: I know, I know, you're not a little girl anymore.....But you're definitely still stubborn though.

Rosalina: ('Making Angry Princess Noises')

Ryu: (Chuckles Lightly) I'll make sure she's taken care of, sir. I wish you the best of luck with your meeting.

Red Luma: (Happily Nodded)

Polari: (Smiles Brightly) Why, thank you! Trust me, we are going to be needing one in the long run. Until then.....(Waves Goodbye to the Couple) Tootles~ (Vanishes into the Light Along with the Red Luma)

Ryu: (Puts the Teay Down by a Nearby Dresser Beside the Bed) Okay. (Turns to His Princess) How are you feeling so far, Rosalina?

Rosalina: (Smiles Softly at Ryu) I'm feeling okay so far, my dear. (Turns Away While Pouting a Little) Aside from being embarrassed by Polari as usual......

Ryu: I'm sure that his was his way of showing his care for you.

Rosalina: ('Sigh') I know. He did everything he could to raise during my years at the Observatory and I couldn't be anymore thankful. I just wish he would stop treating me like a naive child already.......

Ryu: I understand the feeling. Master Gouken used to see Ken and I as spoiled children who knows little to nothing about what the world will have in store for us down the line, but overtime, thanks to our years of fighting and honing our skills, he finally sees us as the men he's proud enough to train under every waking day. I'm sure it won't be too long for Polari to come around as well eventually. (Takes a Deep Breath Before Frowning a Bit) That being said.....

Rosalina: (Turns Back to Ryu) Hm?

Ryu: I want to apologize for earlier today. Had I known the temperture of waterfall was getting colder at the time, you wouldn't be sick right now....

Rosalina: (Gives Ryu a Soft, Reassuring Smile on her Face) It's quite alright, my dear. I had a great time with you regardless of what happened afterwards, so it was never our fault to begin with. If anything, I apologize for making you all worried in the first place.

Ryu: (Shakes his Head Before Smiling Softly) You don't need to do that. I'll always worry about you from time to time.

Rosalina: (Eyes Widened in Genuine Surprise) Really?

Ryu: (Happily Nodded) Of course. Granted, I'm fully aware that you're more than capable of taking care of yourself just fine, but to tell you truth, I...(Starts Blushing a Little While Rubbing the Back of his Head Back and Forth) Can't really say I've truly gotten over how thrilled and..... ecstatic I am to have you in my life again. So I made a promise to myself: That I'll do everything I can to help and support no matter what comes our way....because I love you.

Rosalina: (Heart Begins to Melt in Genuine Happiness) Ryu.....That's so sweet~ I-I wanna make a promise to myself and to you as well!~

Ryu: A promise for the both us you say?

Rosalina: (Rapidly Nodded Her Head) I promised to love, support, and protect you with all my life. Yes, I know you're a fighter a heart and that you've trained for years to become the man you are today, but there's never been day in my life where I don't worry about you as well. So please, if you let me.....(Gives Ryu a Very Loving, Determined Look on her Face) I would want nothing more than to continue standing by your side as we both shall live!

Ryu: (Stares at Rosalina For a Brief Second Before Smiling Softly and Gently Grabbing her Hand) Then a promise is a promise then, my highness~ (Starts Kissing the Top of Rosalina's Hand)

Rosalina: (Trying Her Hardest Not to Giggle Out Loud) Ryu, no, don't kiss meeee!~ You'll end up getting up getting sick too.

Ryu: (Chuckles Lightly) Don't worry. I'm willing to take the risk. Besides, with me being sick as well, you won't have to suffer being alone in this room for a while.

Rosalina: (Heart Starts Melting Even More Now Before Taking a Deep Breath) Please forgive me for what I'm about to do next, dear.......

Ryu: (Raises an Eyebrow in Confusion) What are you-

Rosalina pulls Ryu in to give him a very passionate kiss on the lips. As much as it caught him off guard, it wasn't long for the veteran Street Fighter to accept his fate and continue making love to the woman he fell head over heels for.

The Next Day......

Polari: (Crosses his Arms While Sighing) Honestly. I left you two alone for a day and you each other sick by your lovile-making shenanigans?

Ken: ('Sigh') I know you two love each other and all, but at least wait until one of you gets better to dp all of that.....

Red Luma: (Nodded in Agreement)

Ryu/Rosalina: (Sighs in Defeat While in Bed Together......Sick) We're sorry......

Hey veer. How are ya?

Hey Anon ! I'm doing good, I hope you are too (^人^)

I'm gonna use this ask as a kind of "I'm back" post/moment haha. As a bunch of you might have noted, I've been away for quite a while. A lot of things have been going on for me. Some good stuff and some a little less great. I didn't really feel like posting anymore mainly because I didn't have a lot of ideas but also because all the things I had going on were taking too much space for me to focus on my blog here. But I still missed the good ol' days here and I was eager to see the moment where I would be able to post again. I'm gonna be honest tho, this sort of "return" going on here probably won't mean "I'm gonna post a lot of content again". It will come in the future tho and I'll be back, I hope in time, to a more stable rythm of uploads with possibly different kinds of audios and wavs. I'm very excited about this but I'm choosing to take it slow for now as I still have a lot going on privately. It's still a great motivation because I'm sure some of you saw that I wasn't completely inactive, I was lurking around a lot and seeing all of you guy's content, all of it bringing great joy to me. As such I can't wait to be a part of it again ╰(*´︶`*)╯

Another thing, I saw that I've also gained quite a bit of following while I was away and I want to say thank you for being here and motivating me to make content and satisfy all of you horny little gremlins ❤ (I see you in my askbox, you cute little hornballs (¬‿¬ )❤)
