I combined footage from my Detektiv Conan Blu-ray with audio from my Case Closed FUNimation DVD and made an HD English dub clip compilation for Episodes 57-58, "The Holmes Freak Murder Case."

#detective conan #case closed #video #funimation english dub script #i wasn't actually gonna post this video to tumblr because it's so long (because i have a lot of feelings about this case!)#but folks on discord liked it and i'm all about my funi dub propaganda so why not right?#the dub script here is just so fun--and does so well at making the dialogue *work* and sound natural in english #and has so much flavor! it does arguably too much in terms of creative liberties but things like #'can i really trust what a kid saw?' of the sub translation compared to 'and what were you smoking before you ran out there?' in the dub #are much more enjoyable to me #(other fun phrasings: 'the one who's always hangin' around you guys' (sub) vs. 'the little-bitty one with the great big brain!' (dub))#(and 'of course not! the reason i applied for this tour was 'cuz i thought i might find kudo' (sub))#(vs. 'who me? no no no. actually i signed up because i was hoping to run into jimmy here. but i guess i'm out of luck' (dub))#(and so many more! this script just has so much character)#and while it is a shame that the dub eliminated heiji's accent i do like the changed line ('i know it's you!')#'cause you've met shinichi *once* heiji lol #but yeah this is a fun case! i'm really happy to have finally hd'd the funi dub for it :')#one of my favorite things about the funi dub is that jerry jewell (shinichi's va) voices conan's thoughts #and it's so nice to hear *shinichi* and heiji deducting together (and the way they finish each other's thoughts and vibe... it gets to me)

Jonny Sims saying the Contrarian and the Skeptic were a buddy cop duo was so based and real of him

(And that the Opportunist thinks everyone loves him but they don't)

but what interested me most was him saying the Hunted and Cold would be friends. I've never really thought about that pairing before but it does work. The Hunted's main thing being keeping the body alive could help balance out the Cold's general blasé nature when it comes to death, while being rational enough (focussing on his senses and what he knows is real) for the Cold to actually take him seriously. While the Cold being able to push the Hunted to act somewhat like the Stubborn, but slightly less strongly. He's confident that they can get the job done, and with the Hunted keeping them alive they could get a lot done without either really getting sick of the other. Just two reliable guys.

A little off topic but I think they'd work pretty well as a trio with Paranoid too, given a little time for Paranoid to get used to it. Cold's confidence plus Hunted's survival instinct could give him something reliable to work with, and I think he could help him by pointing out when they're going to far in either direction and going to get themselves hurt, as both can be rather single minded (on different things, mind you, but definitelythings that could leave them with blind spots) while Paranoid thinks of every possibility and could probably bring up flaws in any given plan that the others wouldn't notice, and at least Hunted would probably take it into consideration if its going to get them hurt or killed. Like a scared little peer reviewer of any plans the other two would execute

Ever since I was a little girl I always knew I wanted a butch twice my size to call me a good boy

I know most of our focus goes (rightfully) to the trial songs, but I genuinely believe Baptism of Fire is equally a masterpiece of meaningful writing and intense vocal acting

#milgram #fuuta kajiyama #like the other vds have good writing about the character and whatever social issue their crime focuses on #but this one is very pointedly about YOU #its about the audience. its about the milgram project. its about self reflection. its about self-appointed roles. its about you #even if you didnt vote t1 or anything the whole things is calling on you to reflect on your own judgements of others #how you treat people who come off rougher. how you treat people who have made a (bad but) common mistake.#do you also find entertainment in seeing people dragged down and suffering because it would 'serve them right?'#but es always remains in control of the situation. the drama doesnt end with 'and fuuta was right - you guys suck!'#its clarified that situations are different and have nuance. we are reminded to look at things with nuance.#then we are smoothly re-immersed in the story #and then!! the acting itself!!!#arthur lounsbery put his whole fussy into that performance (<- fuuta pussy) and i am in his debt every day for it #in both his vds hes just super expressive and fun to listen to #i dont understand japanese but he packs so much interesting intonation and emotion into every word -- im obsessed listening to him #he nails all the subtle emotions fuuta has: the pouts and outrage as well as underlying fear grief insecurity and immaturity #and then baptism of fire hes just... Wailing #like mahiru has her innocent and pathetic cries of pain in her sweet voice that works for her character but fuutas pain feels much more raw #the way hes practically sobbing at the end -- his voice cracking and screeching throughout -- the whimper of pain #its so unbearably intense!! it hurts!! and its supposed to!! but hes just so raw with it #and dont even get me started on his pained hysteric laughter omg....#its just. a masterpiece.#i always appreciate the vds but i dont think ive enjoyed/relistened to one as much as this one #okay WAIT im back to add one more thing because im obsessed with ths idea of intentions #specifically in milgram i think the intention behind the murders are very important to consider #so i love love love the huge focus on 'i didnt expect/mean for this to happen'#plus as a general theme in fiction i think its sooo juicy when good intentions get fucked up #so i loved the repetition of that #fuuta is such a special case because he genuinely had no desire or expectation for his victim to die #(maybe kazui too? but he doesn't say so in his vd like fuuta does)

Would you prefer if I A: kept music that the y/ngineer sings/plays in the fic to be kept vague so you can slot in songs that YOU like B: Use specific songs but dont add any lyrics into the chapter C: Go nuts and let the characters acknowledge the lyrics & the meaning behind them

#thylacines can talk #faaf au #i love this au very yummy. a very fun twist on how Flower's dynamic with their parents would progress afterwards #the vessels live but the void exits their bodies in quite a violent manner (extreme pain and literally throwing up an entire person worth of #void). Flower was on guard duty and theyre found barely conscious in a pool of rapidly evaporating void. passes out seconds later #PK also had the displeasure of experiencing extene pain and burning as void forced its way out through his skin <3 And his moulds all melted #and evaporated. after the initial shock wears off theyre hit with “Oh No #the vessel“ and rush to find them. Well somebody else was already looking for the royal pair about this #Flower wakes up dazed and in pain in their father's workshop. their stomach hurts their throat burns and they feel lightheaded. the entire #place is considerably brighter than they remember and in they can hear two faint voices in the background but theyre too preoccupied with #examining their now pure white hand in shock to focus on anything else. until they hear their mother say “My wyrm they're awake” and #suddenly their parents are by their side. Now the two have no idea what void leaving their body might have done to them. Are they still #hollow? are they still dead? do they understand anything are they sentient? or was what was done pernament even without the void? do they #have the mind of a child if their sentience was restored? or do they remember anything? So WL stays by their side and helps them sit up #while their father goes to grab his tools. She's trying to keep them calm and comfort them but theyre still too disoriented to pay her much #attention. Until their father checks their breathing and they yelp audibly from the cool metal contacting their skin and suddenly they seem #much more alert. theyve never experienced true coldness before. PK quickly apologises and tries to be gentler with them. Theyre breathing #properly and they have a heartbeat. And he just pauses for a long while just. listening to their heart beating. Many emotions to be had #after the exam's over he asks them point blank how theyre feeling. And Flower looks up at him still seeming a little disoriented. and then #they lower their hand to their stomach and mutter 'My tummy hurts...a-and my throat burns'. It's to be expected after the way the void #left their body. so he goes to grab them some water and meds and they also ask for food and a mirror. And after he returns they just stare #at themself in the mirror and pull on their bangs for a while then blurt out 'I have your eyes' when PK asks if everything's okay. And he #and he almost chokes up as he replies 'Yeah...Yeah you do'. Flower eventually spins a lie that they remember everything but its all distant #and blurry. Like they were not aware until now. They figured it'd be better to not break their hearts #And now the three have to figure out how to be a family while PK is also scrambling to find a new solution to the infection #oops i meant to only give a brief rundown in the tags which is why it was in the tags. but i got too invested KDHDKFB

Cursing & other wild things said/done in the Kingdom Hearts 1 manga that weren't in the game.

#it's just wild to me that these characters said some of this stuff #I'm over here reading everything in the character voices & then they start swearing 😂#I said in my other post I'd make a cursing compilation so here it is lol #kingdom hearts characters are so much fun in the manga #I know 'hell' isn't technically a curse word but in the west it's often considered one & there's no way they'd let them say that in kh1 #back in like 2007 or whatever lmao #please go read the final mix manga; it's such a gem!#donald leaving a lasting impression on sora & teaching him curse words on accident lmao love that #again this could all be a translator error but i find it absolutely hilarious if they curse in manga canon #I feel like Riku will drop an f bomb before Sora does; place your bets! lol I'll be making cursing compilations for the other kh manga too #kingdom hearts #mine #op

I'm watching a playthrough of the original Disco Elysium and man, I cannot overstate how much of an improvement the voice acting in the Final Cut is. Not just in comparison to the original (all the voices are so so so much better) but also to the game as a whole. The voice actors do a stellar job of filling each scene with the right emotion and perfectly characterizing each character. Mad props to the people behind the voice casting, I hope they are proud of the incredible work they've done

#disco elysium #there isn't a single voice i don't find amazing in the final cut it's insane (positive)#my fav updates from the og version are Titus and Idiot Doom Spiral #Titus sounds soooooooooooo much cooler and boss-like in the final cut and IDS sounds like an asshole. but in a fun way #I also love the improvements in characters like Egghead and Evrart. They are more exaggerated? and feel more appropriate to the characters #Egghead's yells feel more energetic and Evrart feels more like a conman in the final cut #I love the improvements in Klaasje's and Lilienne's voices too #Klaasje sounds more tired and hopeless after everything that has happened and Lilienne's voice is more charming #and Soona how could i forget Soona. her new voice is so sarcastic and 'idgaf'-ish I love her <3 #i could go on because every voice is so much better in the final cut but you get the gist

Have got to get around to throwing up some more ZEXAL thoughts I've put elsewhere but suffice to say, knowing the pain of losing Durbe, Merag, Gilag, and ALITOOO, the amusement of Vector being Vector throughout it all, and the absolute rage Nasch has for him after that, I'm in deep

#IMA KOKO MIRAI MO BOKURA GA NEGATTE IRU YUME NO KAKERA #CHALLENGE THE GAAAME #that tribute to them boy did it hit #Alito and Gilag's friendship throughout ZII was pretty wholesome/it was nice they got some closure as Alito pulled a Durbe to get DT out #[in that his Counter Trap spared some damage but hit him with it all by the end of the turn]#and Durbe putting his hope in Merag and Merag thinking she won only for Vector to save himself w/ DT's Throne and come back from the brink #i got chills from the sheer livid anger in Merag's voice after finding out what he's been doing with Nasch--and from her losing (that OST)#and Vector being such a troll but also cunning is fun to watch #at this point i'm pretty sold on ZEXAL--it's lived up to the 'gets better' hype for a while now #[also i love Vector's Evil 1 Trap that references Dark Malik vs Dark Yugi]#ZEXAL #Lance watches ZEXAL #yugioh zexal #and now for the fated MOON duel i've heard so much about--and Kite dueling in a spacesuit fun

I've watched the first few episodes of Night Court now and I like it!!

John Larroquette really is very attractive, okay yeah I get it now

#I mean. I'm 100% only watching this because I'm into him. but I was confused by it before. and now I'm not lol #it's very fun because he's super tall but has a face like a cute little puppy but then he speaks and his voice is like that #very enjoyable lol #still find him hotter when he's old but it's good anyway #also it's fun to see someone who would've been in his late 30s at that point and think aww he was just a little baby! a small child! barely #an adult!#makes me feel very young at 32 😅#anyway. pretty much every line he's said so far has made me laugh #so yeah I'm having a great time #john larroquette #night court #and sometimes he's just standing there. being tall and looking cute. very nice.
