You know I have these 3 big acrylic paintings of Harry in my room
And I've been thinking for a while which photo of him I wanna paint next and I've come to the conclusion that it might have to be the blowie scene from My Policeman because he looks like he's been given the entire universe

you guys who are using "TikTok therians" to mean people who think being a therian is an aesthetic and not an actual nonhuman identity have forgotten the days when "tumblrkin" was the word of choice for that group, huh?
not to be salty but can we maybe say what we actually mean instead of calling an entire platform fakers for the sake of shorthand

Not to be dramatic but Jonathan Stroud's letter announcing Lockwood and Co's cancelation literally broke me.
Like "Portland Row is always open for business"? "Drop by any time"? "It's your home too, after all"?
HOW DO YOU EXPECT ME TO BE OKAY AFTER THIS

i think that if you find yourself penning a post arguing that women are intrinsically too sentimental/hysterical/emotional/intellectually shallow/sexually frigid/otherwise deficient to have valid opinions about a fictional male character (excepting, of course, those women who agree entirely with your opinions), you should perhaps stop and ask yourself 'am i committing a misogyny in the name of winning a stupid ship war on tumblr dot com?'
and then you should shut the fuck up.

some ppl are rlly out there claiming to be damen fans while completely misunderstanding and minimizing every aspect of his character except for how much he suffers lmfao.
if you think slavery wasn't a core flaw in akielon culture and damen wasn't on some level morally reprehensible for being a perpetrator in that system then i'm sorry but you do not like damen as much as you think you do. if you think the akielon slavery system is somehow justifiable in-universe because in the originally slavekink type of worldbuilding the slaves wanted to be in that position bc they were naturally submissive then you missed the entire point of damen's character arc.
the issue isn't that i can't see slavery through the lens of kink exploration, i'm very good at suspension of disbelief. but pacat said it himself, the consensual kink part of the story and worldbuilding got away from him because damen refused to comply with that narrative. so at that point a theme of "slavery bad" starts making its way into the story through damen. the slave kink excuse is no longer valid because damen himself starts questioning it, within the story. the narrative (DAMEN!!!!!) sets this moral standard, not the reader.
now. i'm not claiming damen deserved any of the horrible treatment he got from laurent, bc he did not. i'm speaking in terms of strictly what happened in the story. in the story, damen is a former slave owner, realizing slaves are in a very vulnerable position because he himself is put in a very vulnerable position with the worst master and owner imaginable is a core part of his story, his narrative, and the most telling thing about his personality and beliefs.
damen took those negative experiences, that pain and anger he felt at being captive, brutalized, humiliated, and robbed of his free will, and he was able to transfer those onto other people, his subjects, people he himself might've hurt by taking away their own free will. he was able to grow from his trauma through self-reflection and to see reality beyond a life of normalization of systematic violence from which he benefited, resolving to make a significant change as soon as he got the power to do so. that level of empathy and integrity is incredibly admirable of him.
and so you can't have your cake an eat it too. if you claim to love and enjoy this part of his character, you cannot in good faith claim the evil (in a thematic sense) he was fighting against and managed to defeat was not that even that evil anyway. you are saying his judgement is clouded by personal trauma, that he is biased and even overdramatic, and seeing a problem where there isn't any. this is in fact, disrespectful to damen's character. believe it or not.

If I could free the spn fandom from one illness, I'd choose the compulsion so many people have to present Sam and Dean as opposites in every facet, big or small. There are many preferences they both share, there are many situations in which they'd both feel or act in really similar ways, and there are certain pillars of their personalities that are essentially identical. Trying to always find that "polar opposites/two sides of the same coin" energy everywhere only ends up twisting and misinterpreting their personalities to make them fit that mold. And there's usually one brother who ends up getting the short end of the stick and being transformed into a caricature that has lost any actual connection to his canon self, just so he can be presented as the opposite of his brother

i don't mind genderbend fic or art. usually if i don't feel it, i just scroll past and ignore (my policy on headcanons/fanon content that i don't personally agree with).
what i do mind is when an author/artist takes a same-sex couple (usually mlm with one of them somewhat more androgynous or even with a bit of feminine silhouette), make one of them into the opposite sex, and only write/draw them like that.
like, genderbend one of them if you want but if that's the only way you portray them then that's sus to me.
it's like internalised homophobia, imo.
make them both genderbend! make mlm into wlw, make wlw into mlm, make it straight once in a while, spice it up! just don't take a queer ship and make it straight just to justify shipping them.

what's also kind of fascinating to me about the way the found family trope has gotten kind of militarized over the past several years, is the apparent idea that consenting adults can only have one type of dynamic with each other...and that one dynamic is the main indicator of what their relationship is.
like. that's just kind of wild to me. I know some of it is tied up in purity culture and the weird pearl clutching about what does or does not constitute a "problematic" dynamic, (read: people who think ANY age gap is pedophilia, or people who think that headcanoning people as found family means shipping them is incest. we'll set aside the people who think "problematic content" shouldn't be written at all for now, that's gotta be it's own post.), but it really feels like some of the reality of human relationships gets lost in these kinds of debates.
a decent example is like. when people treat friendship like a stepping stone to romantic love. as if one is supposed to naturally supersede the other over time. as if falling in love with your best friend automatically means losing that friendship, somehow. we're MEANT to have multiple, overlapping dynamics and relationships with people. you can bicker like siblings with your best friend who also happens to be your fiance. you can take leadership and guidance from someone in one aspect of your life who is fully on the same level of authority as you in another. these things aren't mutually exclusive, they don't cancel each other out.
I think mostly what I'm getting at here is that you can headcanon people as found family without flattening the type and depth of relationships they can have within and around that framework. "family" isn't a flat, pastoral, platonic ideal of a relationship. Pretending that it is, or pretending that any one person's personal headcanons should inform the way other people view those relationships, is both obnoxious and like. generally not useful commentary.

Hey um. If your "activism" against Israel is just reblogging posts talking about random Jewish characters with comments saying it's wrong to like them because Israel. Maybe recheck your priorities.
