ink cap is Not Okay!

soooo this is shaggy ink cap. he's the show host for a show I will Never make. (adhd says no...)

he's an ink cap mushroom, and if you didn't already know, ink cap mushrooms go through a process called deliquescence, where they slowly melt down into a black sludge over time.

over the course of his show, shaggy here slowly melts down until there's nothing left. essentially, he dies at the end.

he's making the show as his last work of his life. he isn't making it to go down in history, or make a lot of money, he's just making it so that his two kids have something nice to remember him by, and to make his last few months alive a little easier for them to handle.

their mother melted when they were little. some mushrooms have more time than others, and she was unlucky. he still hurts from that.

he loves them a lot and it kills him to have to leave them so soon, but since he has no choice in the matter, inky decided to go out with a bang. or, well, a squelch.

he doesn't tell any of his contestants this when they arrive. most of them don't know much about ink cap mushrooms, so they don't question the way he looks, or his slow, lethargic behaviour. they don't even catch on when the prizes sound more like a will.

there are some other mushrooms in the group, but they know to keep quiet. they don't want to ruin this for him by making everyone worry or dampening down the mood.

he doesn't have hands, let alone the stamina, to set a lot of the challenges up, so he has a little entourage of microfungus that help him out. only one of them has hands — good ol' andy — but they manage just fine and help out a lot. thay look like this vvv

the main prize for winning the show is a large part of his land, which contains beautiful gardens, abundant wildlife, an orchard and a house to live in.

when you only have 30 or so years to live, you make sure you do as much with it as you can... and he spent his being as successful as possible. now he wants to give some to someone who could use it much more than he was given the chance to.

inky does a really good job of hiding his slow, uncomfortable demise, but you can only go so long looking like THIS:

before people start asking questions. it's only a matter of time before people start catching on, and he knows that. he's just not sure if he's ready.
