Perhaps it was a WISE choice not to ACTUALLY promise not to laugh, because laugh, he does. Brother, partner--- he's heard it ALL when it comes to those who are not familiar with the Lucis Caelum lineage, and the Scientias generational dedication to it, but FATHER is a new one. Ignis is certain, had he brandished a PHOTOGRAPH of the heir to the throne, Aerith wouldn't have assumed the Advisor had left behind some vegetable-hating troublemaker. Alas, she'd never asked, and thus, he'd never bothered.

When, finally, the amusement simmers down into a fit of coughs into his folded arm, Ignis offers her an understanding, yet still humored grin. " King Regis, Noctis', ah . . . REAL father, does a fine job, but I do oft feel like a parent, considering my duties. I suppose the idea of it is not so far-fetched from the perspective of someone who is not involved with the Royal Family. "

Taking a break from the end stretch of Camp NaNo and-

There is going to be a series focusing on IgNoct (FFXV based aus) where -- not unlike the fantabulous @yuzukimist's Prompto's time loop series (found here, PLEASE check it out it's so good) but mine has a different premise: Ignis can't accept Noctis' death, but instead of time travel he's sent skittering through the multiverse fighting to find a happy ending with his beloved Prince.

Under the working title, Chasing Our Happy Ending Across Time's Roulette, there will be a series of somewhat connected one-shots across various verses. Some will be much longer than others. So far, aside from the beginning and ending of the series, there are over a literal dozen premises I can work on, some similar to canon and some very different.

Above all, I needed a break from my current work; you guys know me, always multiple irons in the fire. Going to start poking my FF7 stuff, too -- I know I haven't been regularly posting on that, but that's more health issues than lack of motivation.

ALSO -- and no promises, but I'm thinking -- if you guys want to suggest AUs for Ignis... I'm game to hear you out, as long as it's not explicitly borrowing from someone's else's fic (unless it's yours) or with heavy violence, smut, or horror elements. Am a squeamish kat.

Okay, now I'm imagining one of the 'verses that Zack-Noctis, Aerith-Luna, and Cloud-Prompto (+Ignis and Gladio) trip into, is an /FF7/ verse. When Cloud was just a cadet and Zack was /even more/ of a hyperactive puppy.

hgfdhgf TOTAL CHAOS.

Adorable Chaos.

Gonna just yet the ff7 timeline into the stratosphere because I Do What I Want for this. But basically this is a Happy Ending AU were Stuff Happened so that Gen never degraded/defected, Angeal never defected, Seph is mentally stable, and while Shinra is still a thing to be dealt with at least nobody is calling down meteors on anything else. Cloud is a little Cadet person who accidentally caught Genesis’s eye and so is not the Poet’s apprentice, and Zack is as hyper as ever.

...

-The five of them trip into the FF7 verse and we’ll make them teenagers and stuff for this, Noctis (15), Luna (19), and Prompto (15) all insta-recognize it and freak. Ignis (17) and Gladio (18) take their cue from the freaking and are very cautious. They don’t ask why the three know so much about this strange place or are so agitated but Ignis is Fussing and Gladio is ready to hit something. Luna softly says hey’ll just- have to avoid “everyone important” and the Astrals will undo this as soon as they can.

-Their luck being what it is, they are somewhere in the slums of Midgar and while killing monsters for gil to stay somewhere that isn’t an alley for the night (WHY DO THE MONSTER BODIES DISAPPEAR Ignis hisses the first time the monster he was inspecting for potential recipe material disappeared into thin air, leaving coins and junk behind), they hear someone else fighting monsters and having Trouble.

-Reacting on their Good Guy instincts, they race around the corner and find a Whopping Freaking Behemoth growling it’s way through a street way too small for it, chasing two someones that Noctis doesn’t really pay attention too in his haste to fling a fireball in the Behemoth’s face to slow it down. The beast slows and Cloud rockets by, his sword a flash of silver light as he hops up the dingy wall and somehow (Nif experimentation strength, adrenaline, and magic) beheads the thing in one massive strike (Gladiolus, watching from the entrance of the street where he’s guarding Ignis, Luna, and the people that Behemoth was chasing, quickly acknowledges his jealousy and lets it go, because Prompto is just Like That).

-Prompto lands on the dead body of the Behemoth and flicks the blood off his blade as he looks around (escaped experiment from the labs he’s betting, and the thought of it makes his blood feel very cold). Noctis nods grimly at him, coming to the same conclusion and reminder.

-Then, from the head of the alley, someone breathes, “That, was ... SO COOL.”

-Prompto, looking over Noctis’s head from his perch, goes dead white. Noctis knows what he’s going to see the moment he turns around but somehow can’t stop himself from looking anyway.

-Bright-faced and energetic, innocent in a way Noctis has never been able to fully pull off, is one SOLDIER Second Class Zack Fair, staring at the two of them with hero worship in his eyes as he dusts himself off and bounds past a startled Gladio to all but vibrate in front of Noctis and Prompto, “How’d you do that? You just- WHOOSH and SHING and it was DEAD. I didn’t think anyone but a SOLDIER First could do that!”

-While Noctis tries to wrap his head around himself (had he really been that hyper? No wonder Angeal called him Puppy), Prompto blinks past Zack (ghost ghost bloody-tired-ghost-rain-blood-steel-you-are-my-living-legacy-) he sees the second person standing there being fussed at by Ignis and almost loses his grip on his Fusion Sword.

-Cadet Cloud Strife is watching Ignis with a touch of hero worship in his own eyes as the older teen expertly applies a potion to the scratches and cuts, never letting on that he’s spotted the eerie similarities between Prompto, Noctis and these two strangers.

-Their attention is dragged back to Zack by his waving arms as he chatters a mile a minute, then rapidly snagged by the sound of approaching footsteps from the far end of the street, the direction the Behemoth had come from.

-Noctis already knows who is running around that corner. His nerve breaks and he BOLTS. Zack yips a protest as Noctis rushes by, Prompto on his heels, trying to escape before HE can come around the corner and see them. Gladio sees the look on his prince’s face and starts herding Iggy and Luna away-.

-Genesis rounds the bend in front of them the exact moment Angeal rounds the corner behind. Both of them having rushed to the scene to try to save their apprentices.

-Noctis can only hear static. It’s ... it’s different from seeing Angeal in his new body, his reborn self. This- this is a ghost of the man he adored and looked up to as a father, this is a perfect memory of the man he was forced to KILL. This is- this is ANGEAL. Noctis cannot deal.

-Ignis ends up doing all the talking on the group’s behalf while Zack makes things ... worse unintentionally by excitedly recounting the story of how Prompto one-shot the Behemoth.

-Genesis confirms it with Cloud.

-Both men, honorable in their own way, insist on paying for a Proper Hotel for the group as thanks, which means taking them above plate. Ignis makes up a story of how they are Hunters (which ... they are technically, just not in this world) and were just visiting the city when they heard the sounds of fighting.

-They get dropped off at the hotel and Noctis and Prompto spend a good hour sobbing in the bathroom over their respective ghosts while Luna hesitantly tries to explain why to Ignis and Gladio without ... SAYING why. After that, the group put their heads together to make a plan, because Noctis and Prompto are SURE that SHINRA will come sniffing around soon.

-By morning, Noctis and Prompto have composed themselves and gotten ... sorta enough sleep.

-Prompto is not surprised how, the moment the clock turns to “reasonable hour of the morning” there is a knock on the door. He is less surprised when he opens it to find a Turk on the other side.

-He promptly shuts the door again.

-He makes a rude gesture at Ignis’s back when the older teen sighs at his bad manners and opens the door to let the devil man in with a murmured apology and vague excuse that Prompto doesn’t handle mornings well. The Turk is Tseng, because of course it is, and he’s come to formally thank them for their assistance the other day in saving the lives of two of their employees (Read: here to investigate how a group of unknown teens showed up out of literal nowhere, how one of them used a fireball spell without seeming to have any materia on his person and how the twig-blond one-shot a Behemoth like a SOLDIER First).

-Ignis and Luna handle all the talking because Noctis is oddly quiet (afraid of being too like Zack), Prompto has gone straight non-verbal, and Gladiolus is a bit busy trying to keep his two friends on a sane keel.

-Tseng notices all of the interplay, but isn’t sure what to make of it. He notices the way the black haired one seems agitated in his presence and how the blond has flickering mako shine in his eyes as he folds in on himself and shuts down at the sight of Tseng’s suit. He notices he way Ignis and Gladio are neutral to him like true strangers would, but the gentle girl named Luna watches him with an old, eerie sort of knowing fondness.

-They are not what they seem, he thinks to himself.

-But what are they?

-Anyway long ficlet made slightly shorter, Tseng talks them into coming to the tower to receive a thank you gift from SHINRA and maybe give a demonstration to some of the cadets while they were at it, as a ... show and tell from an outsider perspective. They don’t have any choice but to agree, and Noctis shakes off his uneasiness to be a more muted version of energetic to help Prompto cope.

-The SOLDIER Firsts and their apprentices are there too, because of course they are, and Noctis slides into his element showing off for the cadets with Gladio’s help while Prompto spaces out at the nearest wall. Angeal comes over to talk to Noctis and thank him and stuff and Zack is already trying to acquire another blond buddy (Prompto slides back into non-verbal blank looks and is ... dimly surprised by Cloud coming to his defense with an innocent, “Take it easy, Zack, he’s shy.” before smiling. Prompto doesn’t remember smiling as Cloud. Not like that. Easy and friendly and innocent.)

-SOMEHOW. Genesis ends up picking a fight with Noctis. Because Genesis. Prompto, eager to burn off some tension, intercedes on Noctis’s behalf and ends up flattening Genesis in three moves.

-...Oops.

-Genesis gets up with a manic look in his eye and Sephiroth is staring like a cat that just spotted a bird. Angeal’s eyebrows are up to his hairline and Zack is “ooo”ing in awe.

-Genesis tries again, Prompto flattens him in five moves this time.

-Ignis steps in before a real fight can happen and politely excuses the group because they have places to be.

-Prompto has never been more grateful for Gentiana’s timing than the moment they step out of Shinra’s office and slide into the crowd. In between one heartbeat and the next, one shifting of the large, busy crowd and another, she arrives and whisks them home.

-The Turks have no idea how they lost the group of teens, but they never find them again.

THREE HOUSES AU VERSE ( feat. all my non-fire emblem muses )

have you ever wanted to play with my other non-3h muses, but didn’t want to come up with how they could interact all on your own? WELL GOOD NEWS FOR YOU. here is a post about all my non-3h muses IN A THREE HOUSES CROSSOVER VERSE. ok here we go. (listed alphabetically). like and comment if u are interested in interacting in this verse with what muse u would be interested in playing with!

FF7

aerith gainsborough: one of the last remaining people of duscur. she was part of the party that helped dedue escape, and helped heal his wounds during the five years of his absence.

FF10

auron: a knight of seiros from dagda. during the war, the lords of his particular territory (braska) converted to the church of seiros. auron, a knight from his village, was sent on a pilgramage to the church of seiros to become the first holy dagdan knight at braska’s request. as he was in love with braska, and a devoted believer in the goddess, auron came all the way to the church of seiros and began to learn from the priesthood; only for the empire to destroy most of his country and kill braska in battle while he was blindly studying in the dark. auron blames the church partially for his loss, but stays with them out of a devotion to braska and what braska wanted for him.

dona: dona’s parents were duscur entertainers---working tirelessly in the kingdom’s capital as converts of the church of seiros. but dona did not want that life for herself. she did not want to be a fool. she got a scholarship to the school of sorcery, and then, using her connections there, got a scholarship to the garreg mach monastery, where she now attends in hopes of one day becoming a high priestess.  

jecht: a dagdan knight (purely ceremonial, for jousting and entertainment purposes only really), who was so popular and beloved in dagda that even women in the holy kingdom of faerghus lusted after him. an older, unmarried woman with a crest saw him and married him---offering him a life of luxury in the kingdom, where he would never have to work again. he accepted, had a single child with her who would also have a crest (tidus) and proceeded to become the laziest drunkest noble/father ever, until a dagdan lord named braska hired him to become bodyguard/guardian of his vassal as he trained to become a holy knight. auron is a knight of seiros now---and jecht continues to stay by his side out of a sense of friendship (and REAL responsibility avoiding), never far from him, and nowadays, always chasing after his son tidus, who happens to attend the monastery.

lulu: lulu is a dagdan convert to the church of seiros, and a devoted priestess, who watches over a particular student (yuna) as if she was a little sister to her.

fang&vanille: fang&vanille are a duscur mercenaries who happen to be a part of the party that saved dedue. unbeknowst to the rest of their group (who will not just go away and drop dedue off so easily)--they are beast warriors. (fang is a lion laguz, vanille is a kitsune).

FF15

ardyn: ardyn is, of course, one of those who slither. specifically, one of those who slither who aims to take down dagda, and orchestrated the empire taking over it. (for the purposes of this au, noctis is the prince of dagda.

gladio&ignis: shield to the prince of dagda who is now attending garreg mach academy for diplomatic purposes. they cannot let noctis out of their sight.

KINGDOM HEARTS just realized i forgot about this one boys lmfaooo

even/vexen: an empire scientist working for those who slither. codename: vexen.

kairi: a girl from the kingdom who the church experimented on, like byleth. now her heart does not beat. does not have sothis inside her though---instead, just the power to turn into a dragon.

luxu: one who slithers babeeeee.

xemnas: a knight of seiros with a crest, but a younger brother, so he will not inherit his family title. his even littler brother, terra, did not inherit a crest at all, and so was adopted by another family in the kingdom to become lady aqua’s vassal. he feels bad about it all, and expects his father is into foul play. (he is, in fact, working with cordelia and luxu.)

akechi: a student at garreg mach academy, working in the empire. son of one of those who slither, wants to destroy both them and his father; black eagles.

ann: golden deer student. best friends with hilda. kidnapped by the black knight at the beginning of the semester last year, but does noooot remember what the fuck happened after, and it haunts her. she’s retaking the school year now, and has a touch of ptsd because of it.

YAKUZA

majima goro: a disgraced former dagdan military general who has been granted a second chance at life---literally. brought back from the dead with medical experiments, majima has been born again as those who slither’s mad dog, now with a major crest.

So I’m going to go with these members of FF7: Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Zack, Reno, Rude, Yuffie, Cid, Vincent, Barrett, and Sephiroth.

So totally tagging some FF7 lovers I know: @stephicness @rubyphilomela @themissimmortal

Noctis: Oh Noct would get a long with Cloud for sure, Tifa, Zack, Rude, Vincent and Cid. He would be besties with Vincent, Zack and Cloud. I don’t think he would like Reno too much and Sephiroth, I think he would be uncomfortable around Yuffie (like I he’s with Iris). I see him arguing a lot with Barrett. So totally shy around Tifa and Aerith though like the boy is a mess around them. He would crush on Aerith like hardcore. 

Prompto: Prompto would really get along with everyone minus Sephiroth in my opinion. Prompto is super sweet to everyone so he will do his best to find something in common with these guys. I am sure he will be besties with Aerith, Zack, Reno, Yuffie (omo they would be cute together!) Cid and Barrett. I really don’t see him dealing well with Rude as he’s so quiet and that coin not dealing well with Vincent though I think he would understand Vincent more since they have similar history. He would not agree with Sephiroth and his goal at all! I see a lot of pictures of Aerith picking flowers, Yuffie as she’s collecting Materia. He would crush on Aerith, Tifa and Yuffie for sure! 

Ignis: I think Ignis would have a smaller group of people he would like from this bunch, he would like Aerith Tifa, Zack, Rude, Vincent and tolerate Cid. I think he would not get along with Reno, Yuffie, Barrett. He would feel rather neutral on Cloud. Would not like like Sephiroth at all. He would crush on Tifa for sure. 

Gladiolus: I see Gladiolus getting along well with Tifa, Rude and Barrett for sure! Like he and Rude hit up the gym together, pretty sure Rude would influence Gladio to wear sunglasses. (hmm I approve of this) I see him not getting along with Cloud because of the “doesn’t know how to express his emotions thing” and the same with Vincent like I think he would be more neutral on Vincent though. Yuffie would make him think of Iris in a way. His bestie would definitely be Tifa and Rude. Though he would go out drinking with Reno for sure! I don’t see him getting along with Cid too much as I recall in the game some of Cid’s views of his assistant was less that what Gladiolus has mentioned in the game before that is ideal. He would so crush on Tifa though like the man would be at her feet. (They would be so nice together!!) 

Cor: Cor would get a long with Cloud, Rude, Vincent, Tifa, and Zack for sure.I don’t see him liking Reno, Yuffie, Cid, Barrett and Sephiroth. Would appear neutral towards Aerith but it’s not true. He would be besties with Cloud and Rude definitely. Also would think he would crush on Aerith. 

Ravus: His list of people he likes is even smaller than Cor’s. He enjoys the company of Rude and Vincent that’s about it. There is times he seriously agrees with Sephiroth but overall doesn’t like him. He is not fond of Reno, Cloud (too much like Noctis), Yuffie, Cid, Barrett. He’s neutral on Zack, Aerith (she makes him think of Lunafreya) and Tifa. He would low key crush on Tifa though. 

Nyx: Nyx is similar to Prompto getting along with everyone as working in the Glaive he’s come across many types of people so he knows how to deal with diverse personalities. But he really gets along well with, Tifa, Reno, Yuffie, Cid, Barrett and Cloud his total squad. He doesn’t really care for Vincent or Rude. He’s rather neutral on Aerith though perhaps towards the end he thinks more positively about her. He despises Sephiroth. Nyx crushes on Tifa and Yuffie. 

Lunafreya: Luna gets along with everyone as she finds some small thing to like about them and goes with that. She is uncomfortable around Vincent and Reno though, she doesn’t know why but she just is. Aerith is like her long lost sister for sure they just get along so well. She crushes on Zack and Cloud. 

Cindy: SHE LOVES CID! Like that is her friend for life and beyond. She really enjoys the company of Reno, Tifa, Yuffie and Rude. She gets along with everyone pretty well. She would love to tinker with Barrett’s gun arm to make it better and figure out how it works. I see her going out for drinks with Reno, Tifa, Yuffie (when she’s legal!) shooting the breeze. She crushes on Cid a lot like a bunch.

Ardyn: He would get along with Sephiroth and Vincent. (Sephiroth is his Ravus and Vincent his Prompto in that verse) He would love to torture Cloud a lot. He would probably crush on Tifa. 

Aranea: Oh she would definitely get along with Cid, Reno, Rude, Vincent and Tifa. I see her not really liking Barrett, Zack, Yuffie or Sephiroth. She would be neutral on Aerith. I think she would crush on Reno or Rude. 

Hopefully this turned out the way you were looking for! :D It was fun to do this I love both games a whole bunch.

Attack on Backlog 2017 - No. 9 

Final Fantasy XV

Breakdown: PS4 version at 80ish hrs for the Platinum. Plenty of post-game content left undone; plenty of pre-timeskip content left untouched; figure I’ll go back to the game someday (ha ha, not likely) and be like, oh wow, this single-player MMO still has a lot of questing left for me to do, cool (but that won’t happen).

Final Fantasy 15 is a big, beautiful, incomplete, incoherent but ultimately fulfilling and worthwhile experience that won’t disappoint if you have realistic expectations. So, it’s kind of like being in a relationship! Hah. Speaking of relationships, like the ones depicted in this game, and also like my own with the FF series...

TL;DR time! So far I’ve gotten as far as: 

Sephiroth’s fight in FF7 where I parked my characters outside of the crater and went, Nah, putting a stop to that glorious (ly pathetic) summer where I spent my 13th or 14th birthday leveling up Materia or something. Whew. Somehow I just lost the nerve to continue despite grinding for hours upon hours. I didn’t even have KotR, so naturally I skipped Ruby Weapon and that just made defeating Sephiroth kind of... pointless?

disc 3 in FF9, but because I’d neglected and refused to learn Tetra Master up to that point, I pretty much hit a roadblock and could not progress. Thanks a lot! Thanks a fucking lot. I really liked this FF. The soft limits on class specialization, with the way weapons conferred different skills to different party members, but everyone could use pretty much anything, the soundtrack, the characters; a lot of it was great. Ditto about the story tho, wasn’t paying attention ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

almost 50 hours into Bravely Default, but put it down because the storybeats were just too inconsistently delivered, the grinding, though greatly alleviated with some QoL features, was still a huge grind, and something about the game just... never clicked.

taking a glancing look at copy of FFX/X-2 HD and putting the thing down because I have commitment issues.

and whoa, before I forget, Steam says I have 13.2 hours in FF13. So there’s that. Great music though! Paradigm Shifting is cool in theory too, I guess. But this game is just awful. And now I want to go back and play it. Why do I do this?

All in all a very poor showing from me. FFXV was, comparatively speaking, way easier to dig in. “A Final Fantasy for fans and first-timers” they say. Well, I’m not sure if I fall into either of those camps. I guess I am a fan? Sorta? I couldn’t tell you about the lore, plot or characters of many of the games, but I do own one of these. And I used to listen non-stop to shitty low-bitrate .mp3s of Nobuo Uematsu’s soundtracks on my Walkman. And I had wallpapers of Rinoa and Yuna, and still own a really embarrassing FF8 wallscroll that was gifted to me?

So! As a casual fan then, I found this one... pretty good. I mean, there’s elements of every past Final Fantasy in its DNA. It feels like a Final Fantasy game, which is to say it feels like the ones which came after 12, which did the most to change up the ATB/turn based combat, and perhaps the composition/interaction of the characters, outside of maybe Tactics or 11. 

There’s so much to like here that I’m willing to forgive its shortcomings and missed potential, even if, by the end, the things it gets right is in equal measure to the things it misses the mark on or flat out lacks. It has so much charm and warmth that I’m willing to forgive Square’s misguided reach for critical mass market appeal what with its numerous marketing tie-ins and cross-promotions, or its divvying up of exposition to tie-in films and DLC. At least it gave us that ridiculous Cup Noodle quest line. At least it gave us that. I’m even willing to forgive Chapter 13, and I didn’t even play Verse 2.

I’ve not followed the game at all, so its understandable the ones who clamoured for something like Versus XIII would be a bit irked. All those amazing tech demos and trailers they’ve released over the years? I understand the pain, but ya’ll only have yourself to blame for buying into the pre-release footage. 

Yes, the Insomnia chapter was wholly underwhelming. Yes the pacing is weirdly rushed after you’ve hit Altissia onwards and becomes hyper linear. Yes Lestallum and Altissia are in general hilariously undercooked, non-interactive, tiny and I haven’t encountered something this disappointing since maybe hitting Markarth in Skyrim, where the magic of Skyrim’s first 50 hours really started to wear thin. We’ve truly hit a point where graphics tech has outpaced the ability and feasibility to render more organic, more reactive and believable AI simulation in towns and cities. Maybe all this increased fidelity strikes a dissonance with how we think worlds should be populated and behave? I don’t know. Witcher 3 looks incredible though, and perhaps that’s the game that shows you can have your cake and eat it too. Meaty, meaningful content that isn’t just throwaway Hunt quests, or helping some asshole with his car troubles for the umpteenth time. I’m of the opinion that all sidequests in RPGs devolve into kill or fetch quests, and the rare exception requires you to talk your way to success or solve some kind of puzzle and mechanically speaking there isn’t a whole lot you can do. So, that’s where good writing comes in. Fallout New Vegas, if I recall had fantastic writing in this regard. More recently NieR Automata had really rudimentary sidequests that were carried along with quirky written snippets that expanded upon the world. Then there’s the Witcher games and to a lesser extent the Yakuza series that construct entire stories around side content. Yes FFXV’s sidequests are... uniformly underwhelming. They’re all more or less MMO-like filler content for the sake of inflating the completion time and giving you some kind of incentive for exploring the world. And yes, Luna and Noct’s relationship is hilariously undercooked; she does her Aerith moment and it’s tits up from that point on. It’s a shame you can’t be with Iris though the game teases this; Aranea only shows up to do her thing and disappears; Cor straight up disappears; Gentiana does her thing and disappears, etc. People just disappear, for no apparent reason other than selling you DLC, or they didn’t know what to do with these characters because they are plot movers, nothing more. Sigh.

But you know what? It’s been awhile since I’ve played something like the first half of the game so yeah, sure, whatever. Throw on a podcast and go about overleveling past the main campaign. Go ahead and throw on that FF13 soundtrack and go pick up nutmeg (such a great soundtrack). 

Speaking of which, I loved the music. I might even call it majestic. I loved oddball world design of mashing what seems to be not-Southwestern & not-Pacific Northwestern USA with not-Venice, briefly not-Rivendell (Tenebrae?) & not-Tokyo. I loved playing grab ass with my boys after camping out in the mornings. I loved Ignis being the mom friend and the my headcanon where the guys store all their cooking and crafting ingredients in the same astral plane where Noctis keeps his weapons. I loved the photography feature and Prompto’s arc. I fucking loved fishing more than I thought would. I loved that there’d always be some kind of incidental dialogue when you’d go exploring or take up a quest. I loved that Bahamut had a creepy human face. I loved how dangerous and crappy the Reglia Type-F is to handle. I loved that Gladio would give Noct shit, even undeservedly at times. I loved that Regis and his crew went on a similar journey all those years ago. I loved that there’d be super high level mobs just chilling in the overworld and that level scaling isn’t a thing, but there would still be things that could one-shot you. I can appreciate a game that helps me with completing its campaign, even if it does so kind of forcibly, since open worlds tend to induce some kind of completion anxiety in me. Will you please go and fucking fight Ardyn already? 

About that fighting: I like it? I briefly tried Kingdom Hearts on 3DS and it was... It was not great. But I like the automation in this that allows for just enough player input where positioning and timing is more important than anything else. It’s not very strategic, and you don’t have much in the way of tactical forethought, but it looks cool! Props to Square’s animation team for blending all of it together into a somewhat coherent whole. It’s mostly flash, with just enough engagement to not be a entirely mindless affair. 

I think at the end of the day we all have some kind of preconception of what we wanted FFXV to be, and we were all left somewhat disappointed that it didn’t turn out to be that figment of our fancy. But it exists, its more than playable, there’s a lot to do and soak in and those post-credits scenes with Noct and the lads, and Noct and Luna with the photo you chose were enough to wash away the cynicism and disappointment. 

It feels like, with the completion of the Episode Ignis campaign and the successful rebirth of A Realm Reborn, Square might finally close the chapter on 13/Versus 13/15 and do things a bit better and more efficiently. Or maybe we’ll be subjected to a mobile hell and more games in 15′s mould, the latter of which wouldn’t be the worst thing? I keep saying it but I never follow through with going back to play the older mainline FF games. Now’s the time! Maybe.

Some random Clouds and Moonlit Skies verse thoughts:

-Since I feel kinda bad that Gladio’s status as “Epic Buster Sword Wielder” has been displaced by both Noctis AND Prompto, I kinda want to give him another weapon to be his speciality. You know, because he’s not a reincarnation but he’s still one of the bros and is still pretty epic.

-Pretty sure I mentioned somewhere WAAAAYYY back in this verse that Ignis is the one who’s gonna pick up the firearm habit on top of his daggers if anyone picks it up (which I’m not sure they will?), but like ... what should Gladio use?

-Duel wield swords maybe?

-Big battle axe?

-Gunblade?

-Maybe Prompto could design him a gunblade for one of his birthdays when they’re younger and Gladio takes off with the ability to both stab AND shoot things AT THE SAME TIME. After all, gun blades did exist in ff7, Cloud could always just bring that lost piece of technology back.

What's the Little Nox universe? Hi, I'm new and I found you through your HZD x FFXV crossover which has a too long for me to write in this ask. I know the barest minimum of FFXV -- let alone the FF universe on its which is close enough to zero -- but I started the game the other day because I'm almost done with HZD... and I stumble upon this Little Nox thing that is the cutest stuff ever even if I don't know half of what I should about FFXV or FF in general. Hi! Welcome aboard my crazy! Can I just say real quick that I ... ADORE the fact that you found me through my crossover? That thing gets barely any reviews on my Ao3 and FF accounts so knowing someone reads it (and knows the HZD side of it) makes me smile.

Really quick, ineffective summary of FF: don’t worry about playing FFXV before anything else because all but a handful are stand-alone games. Final Fantasy is just a Brand and all Final Fantasy games thus share some world-building traits such as the name of currency (gil), the use of potions and phoenix downs, the existence of chocobos (think Giant Adorable Ridable Chickens), some flora and fauna and some reaccuring minor characters (there are two characters named Bigs and Wedge after the Star Wars pilots who always pop up SOMEWHERE in an FF game as something of a running gag/cameo for example). But when it comes to overarching PLOT and major characters, each game is a new thing unless it’s popular enough to spawn spin-offs (such as FF7′s expanded universe, which had several spin-off games and a movie).

Hopefully Non-Spoiler summary of FFXV: Evil Technological Empire of Evil offers a supposed peace treaty with the Magical Kingdom Of the Good Guys after about 100+ of intermittent war, with one of the conditions being that the MC, Prince Noctis, marries their Oracle Princess, Lunafreya. Insomnia (the magical kingdom of good guys) accepts the treaty because it’s that or continue to slowly loose ground to the empire’s superior technological might and thus four bros consisting of the Husband-to-Be, his buff bodyguard Gladio, his faithful Team Mom advisor Ignis, and his civilian photography loving friend Prompto head off on a road trip to go to a neutral city to get Noctis married.

OBVIOUSLY things go Sideways stupid fast because Evil Empire of Evil™.

Also no one dares travel at night because of a plague of creatures called daemons that are slowly getting stronger and eviler and more of a threat to the world. Noctis is going to have to Deal With This at some point but that falls under spoilers so if you haven’t already been horribly spoiled by my blog or want to AVOID spoilers than I shall stop there.

Also if you want to avoid spoilers ... read my blog with caution. I have tagged literally nothing as spoilers even though I talk about late game meta and lore A LOT because I honestly never expected to drag newbies into my fandom.

 My Little Nox verse is ... sorta complicated? Okay so- I have a HUGE weakness for time-travel shenanigans, so I have multiple AUs for FFXV where Noctis (the MC) time-travels either alone, with his three bros, or with Ardyn who you may or may not have met yet depending on where you are in the game. ANYWAY, the AU where Noctis and Ardyn go back in time together is called Nox verse because Noctis can’t exactly parade around with the name of the young Crown Prince who ALSO exists. Since Noctis is terrible at thinking up cover names and needs something similar enough to his old name that he’ll respond, he calls himself Nox.

Now, in Nox verse Prime, Nox is 7 years older than his non-time-travel counterpart, which leads everyone to believe that Nox is a royal Oops baby from back when his dad was traveling the world. Because Nox and Ardyn travel together and Nox is always jokingly calling him Uncle, everyone thinks that Ardyn is Nox’s mother’s brother who is taking care of the teenling Oops Prince. They later get discovered by Regis, who takes in his son and ... sort of brother-in-law.

Of course, SOMEBODY yote the brilliant idea of an AU of my AU where instead of coming back in time OLDER than his counterpart, Nox was YOUNGER. Way younger. So young that his body couldn’t handle his adult magic/memories and so he kinda mentally regressed to a kid, even if he still has his adult memories in something of a dreamlike state. Ardyn, who never once took a childcare class or raised a kid, promptly panic-rampages his way across the local timeline, trying to figure out how to CARE FOR SMOL CHILD and ends up making everyone believe that the Evil Empire of Evil attempted to clone the royal good guy family and that the teeny clone is Nox. Regis, upon discovering a supposed clone child, immediately takes him in and raises him as his own because Regis is the Dadliest Dad to Ever Dad (his official in-game Epithet is the Father I’m not even joking).

Being a sucker for Fluff and Drama that I am, I immediately took the idea and ran with it, thus spawning the Little Nox verse spinoff of my Nox verse.

Which other fandoms do you fancy? And also, a friend mine told me she wouldn't at all be surprised if I ended up shipping Noctis with SOMEONE -- particularly one of his three shield brothers (they seem like shield brothers in any case) -- if I end up falling head over heels for FFXV... which I think is entirely plausible. And I told her that, objectcively speaking, I think I could see myself shipping Noctis x Prompto. So yeah, my other question: do you ship Noctis with anyone?

Ohhh lots! Though I can only remember a few at any given time. I also like Transformers Prime, Transformers Animated, limited Bay-verse. I like BNHA, Horizon Zero Dawn, I have a long running Fairy Tail fanfic and I’m fairly down for the TMNT fandom even if by this point I probably have no idea what’s going on in it (I’m a 2003 verse fan what can I say). I also dabble in Naruto for all I have not watched the show much (I love the Boruto show tho and am working slowly through it don’t @ me its a fun show), I know a little bit of Bleach and I am trying to hunt down my dvd of Voltron because I really need to resume watching that. I know enough of FF7 to get by when reading the fanfiction but have never played any of the games (I do intend to get the remake tho).

Also I used to be in the Star Wars fandom, still am, but I tend to lurk only for fear of getting set on fire by the rampant hate that seems to spawn specifically around anything I actually enjoy. :((.

ANYWAY. Yes, a LOT of people ship the Chocobros with each other, but I ... don’t like slash? So I don’t ship that at all. I like the brothers dynamic. So for Noctis ships I tend to go with NoctisxLuna aka the “canon ship”. I’ve also seen some cool ships involving Ignis and Aranea or Prompto and Aranea, a kick-butt woman you meet later in the game. Also in Nox verse I ship Nox with fem!Nyx so I don’t know if that counts?
