There’s a package on Eddie's doorstep when he gets home late. He can smell it even before he gets out of his car. Even before he opens it. The scent is sweet, vanilla-y, rich and golden. 

Like Buck. It smells like Buck. 

The box holds two batches of cookies, a loaf of beautiful sourdough, a soft fuzzy blanket, and an LAFD hoodie that has BUCKLEY embroidered on the sleeve. 

The cookies are amazing. He eats three immediately and it also miraculously helps his stomach. Then he puts on the hoodie, Texas heat be damned, and it’s so big. Hugely too big on him. Yeah, he’s smaller than Buck but not this much. Even Buck would be swimming in this. Maybe that’s why he passed it along? He had to have just worn it for the scent of him to be this strong. 

The scent is so strong. It’s so sweet and rich and it almost, almost feels like Buck hugging him. 

Why does wearing something Buck just wore (but gifted to him because he wore it?) feel so intimate? Why does it feel like love and magic wrapped around him? 

It is something mates do. People who choose to be chemically, emotionally, physically bonded to each other. They share scent marked items for closeness and comfort. But it is also something family members do when they have to be apart, and Buck is absolutely Eddie’s family. That’s all this is. Family intimacy. 

Eddie wraps his arms around himself and might like the overly large size of the hoodie. All the soft familiar material covering him so he’s enveloped everywhere in something that smells like Buck. He holds the baggy collar to his face and breathes in deeply.

Pleasant radiant soothing sweetness floods through his whole body. It makes shivers coast all over his skin and deep warmth pool in his belly. He might actually be able to sleep soundly like this. It’s such a relief. It’s so— he doesn’t have a word for it except soothing. 

He picks up the blanket and holds it to his face. It’s thin but a soft, fleecy material. Not too thick or heavy. Good for hot desert climates, maybe even during the summer. The smell on it is also so strong. As if Buck slept with it tangled around his body— maybe tangled around his naked body? For it to smell this heady? Before he stuck it in the mail for Eddie. 

An ache of homesickness hits him right through his chest. 

How could he leave everything? How is he going to make a home for himself and his son when all he wants is what he had to leave behind? 

He will. He did it before. It will happen. For now, he can breathe in sweetness and comfort. He can’t help but imagine— remember Buck’s arms around him. Buck melting all over him, draped around him, holding him so long and so tightly. 

No one has ever held Eddie that way. Like they can hardly bear to let go. He’s never been held the way Buck holds him. 

Eddie squeezes his arms around his own body and suddenly wants to cry. He’s fine though. He’s fine.

But. The thing is. 

This— the hoodie, the blanket, the taste of chocolate and cinnamon, the smell of spicy sweet vanilla-y Buck— it quiets the emptiness that’s been gnawing at Eddie’s insides. The haunting, absent nothingness when he tries to nest and make a new home for himself? It isn’t present anymore. Not when he can smell and feel Buck. Not when he can almost trick himself into believing that Buck is holding him. That Buck is with him. 

His phone lights up and Eddie quickly wipes at his eyes just so Buck doesn’t worry. He’s fine. Just— just missing his best friend. He misses having a home. And a family. 

Eddie still gives him a smile when he answers, “Hey, Buck.” 

“Hey! Did you get your care package? I got a notification that it was delivered. I tried to ship it to you as quick as it could get there. Figured you needed it.” 

Of course that’s what Buck did. Eddie bites his lip, and doesn’t want to cry right now. He so easily could. He wishes Buck were here. Actually, if he’s wishing for things, he wishes he and his son were back home and with their Buck and none of them ever had to be separated. 

Eddie tips his phone down so the camera will show his torso already swathed in Buck’s giant hoodie.

“Oh,” Buck says like he’s stunned. Or full of awe as if Eddie is a mythical, spectacular thing to behold. He’s not. He actually looks worn out and tired when he looks at himself. He doesn’t remember the last time he got even three hours of sleep in a row. But he is wearing Buck’s hoodie. And Buck looks at him like he can’t believe Eddie’s actually wearing the clothing that was sent to him. 

Is it such a weird thing? They’ve accidentally switched clothes before. Happens when you always do laundry together. 

God, Eddie even misses doing laundry now. What the hell is in the El Paso water these days?

Jee thrusts the card out towards Eddie. “For you,” she says, cheeks dimpling as her smile turns shy.

It reminds Eddie so much of Christopher, when he was this age. So sweet, so earnest. His heart squeezes in his chest as he accepts Jee’s card.

And— it is just about the cutest fucking thing Eddie’s ever seen, honestly.

The card, clearly handmade, is shaped like a bumblebee. A yellow teardrop body, striped with crooked lines of black marker. Its head is shaped like a heart, with two pipe cleaner antennae sticking out, and this teeny tiny u-shaped smile and a pair of googly eyes glued to make up its face. The kicker, though, are the wings — two big, slightly misshapen pink hearts (clearly cut out by Jee-Yun herself) protruding from either side, each with a little message scribbled out in Jee’s loopy handwriting. The one on the left reads “BEE mine” and a grin breaks out across Eddie’s face, an amused chuckle slipping past his lips. The one on the right, though — it brings an embarrassing lump to Eddie’s throat as he reads, “Happy Valentine’s Day Uncle Eddie!”

- manager totally the type of girl to just doodle ALL OVER her hands and arms. especially when she’s stressed out she’ll just doodle.

- even during games when she needs a mental break there are totally clips of her doodling on geno’s whiteboard and geno just stares at her over her shoulder and watches her draw😭💕

- when she gets overstimulated she’ll definitely get a lot quieter and more unresponsive like she’ll just nod or shake her head and the team+geno know exactly how to get her back too😭 (fic ideaaa??!!)

- they bring her to a quieter area and grab her snacks and headphones and stuff and just like take care of her☹️☹️

- i LOVE when the caring person gets taken care of..(im not projecting at all i have never heard of that in my life)

- manager and geno’s relationship is something that is so important to me. like he totally sees her as his daughter and is so proud of her😭

- on the bus her and geno will be playing card games or she’ll be helping out with his phone bc no way that man knows how it works

- manager has curly hair. i said what i said and i won’t accept disagreement /j

- OK IM KIDDING BUT LIKE IDK she just has curly hair, its so her

- manager is an AMAZING cook and baker, she stress bakes 100% and gives geno all her new desserts to see if he likes them

- she’s the designated baker for their bday parties and totally bakes each team member a cake and personalizes it to decorate it🙁

- manager also ALWAYS smells good

Since I saw that OC interaction post and am feeling impulsive enough to actually yap instead of just wishing I could yap more with moots—

I had a thought about Yuu Shi and Irina (one of my two 'Yuu's— dunno how much you know about her so linking the showcase post—)

Given their personalities and how they're both kinda 'survivors' in a way, using their social skills to survive— AND the fact that Irina is very much so a follower, the kinda person to be completely fine with basically being someone's lackey or pet if it means she's safe—

I can see them developing a sorta Queen Bee and Minion sorta dynamic 👁️👁️

They make me think of possible narrative foils to one another- but Im not sure if this would lead to their relationship to be unhealthy as yuu shi doesnt like those parts of herself and kinda- takes that out in a way where she would, oddly enough, apply some pressure for Irina to grow some more confidence. Good thing? Bad thing? Idk depends how much of a cunt she decides to be 😭😭 im so sorry Irina ily

working on a 5+1 oneshot that i’ve been thinking about for so long.

it’s a roommates to lovers AU where the action mostly takes place on their shared couch.

it all started with me cuddling next to my bf and whispering ‘couch boyfriend’ each time he hugs me tight. it’s really a recharging method for me at this point and it felt like it’s something Alex and Henry would totally do. they just need to get to the ‘boyfriend part first’. 🤭

i also want to mix it with my ‘100 ways to say I Love You’ prompts, basically including one of the 4 in each scene. it’s probably going to be a whole lot of fluff and i hope people like it 🥹

i have the basic ideas for the 5+1 scenes written down and i know what i want those scenes to be and how to include the 100 ILY prompts as well. two of the sections are also mostly written.

i also made a small pinterest board for inspo and i keep adding to it. it’s mostly me looking for pics of people cuddling on a couch but there’s some quotes in there too. the most relevant ones i think are these two, just showing the way alex warms up to henry bit by bit

life, i guess. i’ve not been in a good mental place in the last month or so. maybe more.

my job is a creative one but my boss stifles that creativity. i often tend to dismiss my talent if things don’t come out perfect from the start (and they never do—it’s called trial & error, going through several iterations until you nail the perfect one)—but my brain still refuses to believe that.

so after a workday where my creativity is in the dumps, you’d think that maybe writing fic would save me, but no. i look at a blank page that often remains blank.

i have the ideas, i just can’t put them down into sentences. and that frustrates the hell out of me—the fact that not even writing fic can get me out of this creative slump.

but we persist and carry on. i have a holiday coming up next week so i hope to get a mental reset and then finish this baby up 💕

3. how you feel about your current WIP

tbh i'm not super confident about my writing any time i come out from from a long long hiatus of not posting anything. also like… i'm not super confident writing other charas aside from jamil since i don't really think ab them as much… (sorry leona-natics* whenever this drabble gets posted, but like fingers crossed the sitch will hopefully be exciting enough)

*i think it might have to do with the fact that i kinda hc leona on the grayspec++have more vv specific hc characterizations i like of him, but ig i do see his appeal (one of m'oomfs is a leona-natic and well ahu her propaganda might've been subconsciously assimilated)

but ahaha i tend to write things that i'm very personally interested in so i'll find a way to have fun with it, i'll be gucci i just get too into my head, it's a vicious cycle as a writer.

16. favorite place to write

uhhh im a very sedentary person, probably a result from the pandemic, and being a thorough homebody even after that

hmm i would say id like a nice ambient public place with coffeeeee my blood my life force Some amount of people engrossed in their own work, but like in the ph, esp in a place populated by a lot of uni students, cafes end up being hella cold (im skin and bones the cold is Evil)++noisy (which i don't see as a big bad thing esp since i like socializing with my friends...at the cost of putting off my own writing oops HAHAHA)

17. talk about your writing and editing process

oh boy. here we go. one thing to note throughout all this: my only consistent practice as a writer is inconsistency. (and ig, if i try hard enough, i can usually put out a passable 200-300 words in one sitting)

sometimes i can outline a fic and take forever chipping away at it

^^(case in point: that sebek x vampire!reader x silver fic... i joked abt waiting until book 7 would drop on EN but it has been Stuck. i wanna write bi-disaster sebek so bad though 🤧🤧)

other times my actual writing veers waaaaay into a diff plotpoint instead of what i have plotted out

^^(there're these 2 now-removed bullet points in wcidfy's outline for ch 3 that went: "do i have the balls to write a fever scene… gaguhan anhirap nito pag walang ob [tl: fuck this is hard (to write) without overblots]" and "i also keep thinking of a scene in the (scarabia) gardens…and lying about bees…weird")

and sometimes i can just shit out 1k-ish words unprompted.

^^though this last example leads to my most rough writing++editing ('ily but leave me tf alone' and 'no id rather pretend'), i only look over for immediate errors, but keep iffy-phrasings and repeated words, but sometimes i still miss incomplete sentences that i jus quickly fix after posting ahahaha.

in terms of my more "polished" writing, i edit as i write (<- i do Not recommend this style. it's very unsustainable if ur planning to do more conventional writing/publishing and it's very easy to get trapped in your writer's block)

and after finishing 80% of it, i try to get a second pair of eyes on it (thanks @jessamine-rose mwaps) because validation of works in progress feels good it also helps to have a trusted outside person look at the work with fresher eyes. also smtimes we get into bouncing ideas back nd forth that we spawn new brainrot lmao like this👇

i like to call my writing a "semi-polished first draft" partly out of self-defense and self-criticism. but really, i think i'd rather have "good enough" writing posted than "my best" because i could spend forever hoarding my wips. i think i'll always have regrets over not fleshing out certain beats/using certain phrasings and references, but i also enjoy looking back on my writing and seeing the incremental, microscopic progress. it makes the process more enjoyable than self-flagellating.

on a personal note, the writing workshop scene can be brutal. with some criticism being needlessly harsh, sure it produced some of my "best" writing but the process was Not Fun. while i get that being able to revise meaningfully is an important thing, i think the endgoal of feedback (from my short exp of betaing for friends) shud always be aimed towards uplifting the writer's aim to create/improving the writer's vision of what they wanna achieve, especially in a craft that is as solitary as writing. wait ill rb a post about making ur shitty pots, very in-line with making art in general

29. how easy is it for you to come up with titles?

very hard. i hate thinking of titles, thats why i yoink lines from songs (who cares if the vibe doesnt fit im adding layers of interpretation or sumn🥴🥴). ACTUALLY wcidfy had like 3 other possible names (it was either *rolls out list* hairtie, nonequivalent exchange, or ben franklin effect* wcidfy was the most bearable one.) *i tried to look up how to distill the psychological phenomenon of someone probably liking u more after u do a small favor for them into 2-3 words, but it had to be a WHITE MAN'S NAME 🤢🤢NAW!!!!

for few other examples:

'say what you mean' was initially titled 'oh how the tables turn'

'roommates? more like roomfoes' was first titled 'pet peeves'

'hypothermia' was first titled 'frigid' but then i thought of paradoxical undressing nd stuff and da pseudo-warmth

i've also moved a bunch of other plot beats from wcidfy's main document into a file called "part 45678 of wcidfy"

as u can see i prioritize making myself laugh wid my wip titles. i wanna put the illusion that my writing's not that serious. unless it is? idk i'm not sure how to describe my writing in terms of its vibes.
