I'm sorry cause I have no idea if you already talked about it or if you'd even like to but I'm so in love obsessed with your 100 shows for js and I'm just back from watching titanic so please tell me there's a titanic au anywhere in there cause palakdjufcyhfudjsnapsifhvuvhsk I need it. Jimmy as the rich heir that has to board a ship so he may inherit his father's millions and marry a stranger. who feels trapped and hopeless and sea (I mean come in the NAME ALONE -) who's on the ship by sheer dumb luck with maybe 2 pennies to his name and charcoal on his fingertips and shows Jimmy what it means to be alive and 2 days into the journey the ship fucking sinks. IM INSANE ABOUT IT
(maybe mostly as an excuse to put sea into the white shirt and suspenders look this time around but shhhhhh no one has to know)
I DO NOT HAVE A TITANIC AU IN MY 100 JIMMYSEA SERIES LIST (YET) BUT MAYBE I ACTUALLY NEED TO COME UP WITH AN IDEA FOR IT BECAUSE YOU DO MAKE SOME VERY COMPELLING ARGUMENTS
i've also really been wanting to have a story featuring sea as a painter, so this could fit quite nicely!!!! my only concern about this is that i don't want to just replicate the exact same plot as the movie, i want to try to put a different spin on it, which in this particular case probably means changing the ending because i simply cannot do tragedies IM SORRY OKAY I REALLY AM BUT WE ONLY DO HAPPY ENDINGS IN THIS HOUSE
and i might have an idea for this, but im afraid it's possibly way too overdramatic and kinda soap oper-y, so im gonna need you to be brutally honest and tell me what you think about it
the premise is pretty much the same: it's around the 1920s, and as an only son, jimmy is supposed to inherit the family’s land and marry well, so his father arranges a marriage between him and the daughter of a wealthy english man for trade purposes or something like that. after the wedding the pairing is supposed to live in thailand, so the families agree to travel together to england before the ceremony to.. idk experience both cultures? let the daughter see her country one last time and say goodbye to it? let's say both. on the ship board jimmy, both of his parents with a couple of servants, the woman he's supposed to marry, her brother, and her father
neither jimmy or his future wife are particularly happy about the arrangement, but jimmy is willing to do it because of his sense of duty. it's not like he believes in love, anyway. enter sea, a broke artist who decides to try his luck in england after winning a ticket for the ship. the story does follow the movie from here on out, although i can't see jimmy and sea meeting in the way rose and jack do, just because im imagining a different dynamic between them (as in, i think that they would dislike each other at first and that they would bicker a lot because of their different worldviews, but that's what keeps pulling them in)
ANYWAY. the point is: they meet, they eventually fall in love (it's a long journey from thailand to england, so let's say the sinking doesn't happen after only two days), the brother of the woman jimmy is supposed to marry realizes that there's something between them and tries to frame sea for theft, the ship hits.. SOMETHING (is there a place where there could be icebergs in that route idk), the ship sinks, jimmy comes out of it convinced that sea is dead so he goes on with the marriage, mostly out of guilt because jimmy's father also died
EXCEPT!!!!!!! some years later, after jimmy and her wife finally have a daughter, as a present for the newborn one of their friends hires one of thailand most famous artists to paint a portrait of the family, AND GUESS WHO THAT IS!!!!!!!!! that's right, it's sea!!!!!! he actually survived and did try to find jimmy after recovering, but jimmy was already married by then and the wife's brother saw him and convinced him to let jimmy go for jimmy's own good
so now it's a big mess because jimmy resents sea (first because he thinks sea didn't try to find him, then because sea made the choice for him), and sea resents jimmy (for marrying anyway even if it was all fake), and they're both pretending they have moved on when it's very much not true. and in my head there's also a whole thing about the wife's brother inheriting the family's fortune and splurging it all, so he's actually living on his sister and jimmy's money, which is why he needs them to be together (but his sister is also maybe in love with her handmaid)
ALL THIS TO SAY THAT THE STORY ENDS WITH JIMMYSEA + JIMMY'S WIFE AND HER HANDMAIDEN TOGETHER AND THE FOUR OF THEM BECOMING A BIG FAMILY AND RAISING THE CHILD WHILE THE BROTHER ROTS IN JAIL OKAY BYE

People's reaction to Maya absolutely reeks of misogyny. And a refusal to engage with the fact her behavior is absolutely a result of the ways that able-bodied people treat disabled people. Which is absolutely wild for a show centered around the fact that what drew one of the MLs to the other is that he was one of the only people that treated him like a whole person instead of someone to be pitied, infantilized and made a spectacle of because of their disability.
Like it's made very clear that ableism from others is a near constant and that a lot of people interact with you not because they actually want to know you as a person but because they want to feel good about themselves for being nice to the "poor helpless disabled person" The girl that told Kohei carrying the trash must be too difficult for him because he can't hear, the guys that let him score a basket because it would've been "pitiful" to defend against him, Yoko's cousin and her weird romance fantasy etc etc.
So Maya, as a disabled person who also deals with that bs on the daily, being stand-offish and critical or suspicious of an able-bodied man? Makes sense actually. Right now her character is there as conflict between the characters, it makes sense to not like her but hop off of all that "uwu this character is perfect sunshine baby and anyone who is mean or critical of them is a heartless bitch" bullshit

there's never going to be a "next time." [Apex (Joongi) & June (Haeju)]
. 𓇬 𝖒𝖊𝖒𝖊𝖘 .
haeju stood frozen, his heart sinking like a stone in his chest at joongi's words. the air around them heavy, loaded with the weight of a truth too bitter to swallow. his gaze, once filled with hope, now reflected the shattered fragments of his own naivete.
❛⠀you're serious?⠀❜ his voice faltered, barely a whisper in the vast expanse of their shared silence. to stand before someone you admire, his eyes could only plea with joongi. searching for a glimmer of reassurance, a trace of the warmth. but all he found was the cold, stark reality staring back at him.
a wave of despair washed over the younger, drowning him in a abyss of anguish. his chest tightened with an ache that seemed to consume him whole. how could he accept that there would never be another chance? that any chance he may have had of righting his wrongs had been stolen from him. he'd compromised the mission.
a bitter laugh trembled through him. tears threatening to well up in haeju's eyes, their silent cascade a testament to the depth of his sorrow. he reached out, his trembling hand seeking solace in the emptiness that surrounded them. but there was no comfort to be found, only the chilling echo of joongi's finality.
❛⠀i... i don't understand,⠀❜ he choked out, his voice breaking with the weight of his despair. but even as the words left his lips, haeju knew the answer lay not in his hero's response, but in the hollow ache of his own shattered heart. for in that moment, he realized that some wounds could never fully heal, some losses could never be undone. and as the older man turned away, leaving him to confront the emptiness that now lay between them, he knew that this, this agonizing dismissal, would haunt him for a lifetime.

since you said you're watching dc too, what characters from the o.c. do you connect with what characters from dawson's creek? or ships or other elements or whatever bc eg that scene in s1 when joey talks to her dad in prison really reminded me of ryan visiting trey in s1/his plot with his dad in general (but pls don't spoil anything for me, i know a few spoilers like i know about jacey bc the first few episodes i watched were the s3 ones where jacey starts but i don't know too much yet, like small spoilers are okay but... yeah i think you get the idea, sorry for rambling !)
No worries on the rambling, I understand what you mean. I'd be sure not to give out huge spoilers!
Joey's dad is a pretty cool catch and it definitely reminded me of the OC too.
For starters, I think Jen is totally Marissa coded (or Marissa is Jen coded). They both have the whole traumatized "bad" girl thing and a lot of things about their story arcs is similar. Marissa also has a lot of similarities with Audrey from the later seasons (also one of my favs).
While the dynamics are completely different, I do think that Dawson and Joey have a Ryan and Marissa quality to them as everyone including their SO's around them can sense that there is something between them even if that drives them nuts. (I think you can say the same about Sethmer and Jacey too but I connect it with RM and DJ more) There are some Pacey and Joey moments that remind me of Sethmer- some Sethmer/Zach scenes actually parallel with late S3 and S4 Jacey/Dawson scenes. Actually S4 Sethmer and S4 Jacey have direct parallels.
While the former is much more rocky and messed up, Mitch and Gail give me Sandy and Kirsten vibes. They actually have some direct parallels, like Mitch's passion for a restaurant.
Now some random observations. Now that I think about it, S3 Taylor has shades of Abby Morgan in her. Seth's Nana and Jen's Grams have some similarities. There's a reveal in early S3 of DC that reminds me of Lindsay. Jen has a storyline in S3 that is totally Sethmer. I also think that I can draw parallels with the college storylines!
Sorry if this wasn’t what you were looking for with all the mentions of the later seasons! Hopefully we'll talk more as you watch :)

something interesting i've noticed in my toy destruction poll is that people have often reblogged saying they're autistic and experienced object personification and so treated their toys with great respect. my younger brother is autistic, and he dabbled in destruction, but i think he ended up developing more attachment and respect for his toys. that said, to my knowledge he never personified them. i'm not autistic myself but i am neurodivergent, and i find it intriguing that i, while typically kind towards my toys (ESPECIALLY the expensive ones which i did personify to a degree), had moments of absolute maliciousness towards my little plastic guys. not sure if that's due to undiagnosed early onset bipolar disorder, childhood angst, a kid getting bored and experimenting, or some combination of the three. i think the differing childhood play experiences across the neurodivergent community even within the same family, like within mine, are kinda cool.
something else fascinating to me is that so many people have reblogged saying they either only dabbled in toy destruction or refrained from it altogether, but leaned in HARD to the psychological torture of their toys. i ALSO did this a lot, like plotting out infidelity, relationship drama, tragic deaths, and a lot of bullying, cruelty, and conflict all around. i didn't include it in the poll because i thought it was pretty universal. that wasn't just due to my personal play methods - every child i'd ever played with had a great sense of tragedy and a flair for the macabre. after i grew out of playing with toys, i still noticed my friend's younger siblings acting out grisly car crashes and violent duels and housefires and the like. i'd be INCREDIBLY interested if anyone out there was more soft hearted and less prone to extreme dramatics in their play scenarios. i occasionally had my toys like. go to the store or adopt a pet or something equally sweet, but my usual plotlines were a lot more theatrical.

The more episodes of 9-1-1 I watch the more I wish I had realized it was a Ryan Murphy show sooner.
He's my boi from POPular and, honestly, it's nice to have a show I know what to expect with. That's not english but whatever. I know how he rolls, and it's comforting. Also, our sense of humour is aligned, so I'm really appreciating it in the context of a show about emergency responders. It's close to how I wanted Reno 911 to be.
