I really liked how quiet this episode was. No sound effects, no lush score. Just Laura and the Baron laying out the final details of things. As if with the absence of Carmilla there is no more story left to tell, even in epilogue.

Nathan Blades, you voice a fantastic surreal enigmatic wise old man. Your Vordenburg sounds like he belongs in a Guillermo del Toro film where the heroes have to speak with some wizened hermit of an expert on the occult and forage in his library. 11/10

But its power is not confined to its grasp; it leaves a numbness in the limb it seizes, which is slowly, if ever, recovered from.

I wonder if that applies in the emotional sense. Carmilla cradled Laura's heart all that time and the grasp is suddenly gone. Has been gone for a decade. And I can imagine Laura, still numb, still wanting, as she seals the envelope and strains to hear that light step at the drawing room door.

it is extremely common to switch careers, start new relationships, emigrate, go to college for the first or second time, or make other life-changing decisions in middle age

it's wild that I even have to spell it out, but older adults (60+) still have social lives and hobbies and interests.

you can still date when you get old. you can still fuck. you can still learn new skills, be fashionable, be competitive. you can still gossip, you can still travel, you can still read. you can still transition. you can still come out.

young doesn't mean peaked. you're inexperienced in your 20s! you're still learning and practicing! you're developing social skills and muscle memory that will last decades!

there are a million things to do in the world, and they don't vanish overnight because an imaginary number gets too big

the thing is that childhood doesn't just end when you turn 18 or when you turn 21. it's going to end dozens of times over. your childhood pet will die. actors you loved in movies you watched as a kid will die. your grandparents will die, and then your parents will die. it's going to end dozens and dozens of times and all you can do is let it. all you can do is stand in the middle of the grocery store and stare at freezers full of microwave pizza because you've suddenly been seized by the memory of what it felt like to have a pizza party on the last day of school before summer break. which is another ending in and of itself
