Love how it's mostly pretty ones and then there's clodsire. Even tho I got it in my team since the beginning of violet do I continuously forget its name bc I just call it by the nickname blobby (one of the rare times I didn't spend hours googling the perfect nickname but it nonetheless is a perfect one)

And for fun without any legendaries as fav

Reg nicknames I even write all down so I only spend decades once for each pkmn (unless I don't like the prev one anymore). Need to update that someday since it's mostly old revolution ones but hey. Blaze do I use for arcanine nowadays more and ninetails got others. Gardevoir got soteria nowadays which I prefer more. Etc.

The PJI has no favourites of course, but I can’t help that I do! I absolutely ADORE Spheal. The way he rolls and laughs is infectious. Such a beautiful species that does not get enough love! Through saving some a few months ago I’ve also come to love Octillery quite a lot!

Hello! After scrolling your blog, I must say, you have a very unique and pretty art style, i absolutely adore it. You have fantastic art I must say. Any inspiration for it?

OMGGGGG this is such a sweet message to open up to, thank you for this compliment, I take it as a high honor to have people wonder about my inspirations hahaha

As for the big one, it's honestly the man himself, Hirano. There's just so much of his approach to art that I've been so taken with ever since I first discovered it. His rendering is utterly jaw-dropping, and his sense of unique style never fails to inspire me. I love how distinctive and evocative all his trademarks are - all the duster coats and the creative ways he uses them in his panel compositions, the iconic facial expressions (I especially love how he draws scared faces and the way he draws teeth on characters when they're in a predatory position in the story, human or vampire) and his methods of hatch shading and rendering. More than anything, though, I love his sense of posing and character design and how those interact. His art has such a striking marriage of those two things and the aforementioned panel composition. His art inspired me to try to understand anatomy better and the elements of character design that might allow me to one day compose something that has the sheer level of coolness that bleeds from every page of his art, especially the title pages. There's such aesthetic maximalism to all his characters. That, and I love his use of heavy lines, sharp, angular edges in his lineart, and just GAAAAHHHHH I love his art so damned much. It makes me turn to my own art and say "how can I make this cooler," and especially in the aspect of visual storytelling that one can accomplish with a character's design. I'm aimlessly rambling but this is really the biggest one.

Beyond this, I've drawn from a really random grab bag of interests. There are a handful of artists online throughout the years whose work I've really enjoyed and found evocative inspiration in. Back in my teenhood I was enamored with the Nuzlocke comic community, with entries like this one and especially this one and the artists respectively, and even attempted one of my own that is now lost to the sands of the internet's endless aether (but if I'm being honest, I'd probably be wildly embarrassed if somebody found those, hahaha). Beyond this, it's a hodgepodge of inspirations like graphic novels and video games I've been super into. Halo, Borderlands, Fallout and the like all get a nod here, in that order. Zemira herself is basically an ODST. I also tend to absorb elements from more cartoon-leaning elements that I really like from random artists that cross my dash. I'd also give a nod to the 2003 Star Wars: The Clone Wars series in terms of the way it exaggerates certain features for stylistic ease.

Pokémon Reborn Screenshot Let's Play: Chapter 8

Hello hello, and welcome to 2024 everyone! The world is strange and still chaotic, but one of the many constants in this life (or, I should say, my life) is Pokémon! And if you’re here for this next installment, then chances are it’s at least some sort of constant in your life too! But after the excitement of the last chapter, it’s time to wind down at least a little bit and move on to some new plot developments!

In addition, it has been brought to my attention that my game might be at least somewhat…bugged. You might have noticed that, in the few screenshots featuring the Pokémon’s moves, some of them have missing type icons. This hasn’t been that big of a deal, I mean knowing the typings of moves is more or less second nature to me. But I was also informed that- well, remember how I talked about the layout of the Field Notes app and how I thought it was confusing? Turns out, it’s not supposed to look like that- there’s supposed to be more text, but on my game some of it is just…missing, I guess.

This also isn’t that debilitating, and as far as I can tell it’s only some of the move type icons and the Field Notes text that are glitched, doesn’t seem like the UI is messed up anywhere else. So, I’m gonna keep trucking along even with those bugs, I can handle it; if it gets worse, like really worse, then I’ll consider more drastic measures to see if it can be fixed. Maybe this can be like a form of challenge playthrough. Nuzlockes? Monotypes? Forget all of that, bugged UI run is where it’s at!

But before we see the new stuff, how about we go over those other developments, hm?

In preparation to take on Julia’s Gym, we went out to catch some leftover event Pokémon, starting with Bloom the Budew thanks to the Rose Incense.

We catch Twig the Bidoof in order to evolve it into Bibarel for a trade with the one Street Rat, but are interrupted when we walk by Dr. Pharmacist again, now with a much shorter line to contend with.

A thug steals Dr. Pharmacist’s remaining painkillers, and since he cannot leave his last patient unattended, he asks Xera to go chase him down.

While searching for the thief, Xera runs into a pair of Team Meteor Grunts plotting to “liberate” someone’s Pokémon (something to be dealt with later).

Xera manages to find the thief and defeats him in a battle, forcing him to return the stolen goods. Dr. Pharmacist commends Xera for her work and fortitude, finally introducing himself as Corey.

Twig is evolved into a Bibarel, which we trade with the guy to obtain Shimmer the Munna.

Xera also catches Crescent the Teddiursa- the same Teddiursa that had been fleeing from her since she first arrived in Peridot Ward.

In a house to the north, Xera defeats the two Meteor Grunts from earlier, who were attempting to steal a woman’s Igglybuff. Concerned over whether the Grunts would return, the woman gives Igglybuff to Xera so she can protect it, and thus we obtain Kirby the Igglybuff.

Behind the Electric Gym, we find a present that an old man had misplaced. As thanks, he ensures that Xera will be “showered in presents” in return, and he gives her Claus the Delibird.

After giving a bit more money to one guy, Xera is able to access a house in an alley, where she finds an abandoned Minccino; we catch it and name her Trim.

That night, Xera goes into an apartment building having a power outage due to a Pokémon sucking up the electricity. This Pokémon is none other than a Grubbin, which we catch and name Prong.

With the party all filled out and trained (including Bloom evolving into Roselia, respectively), Xera steps into the Electric Gym for the first time. She defeats the Trainers within and solves the puzzle (read: she blows up a bunch of gates with Voltorbs), gaining access to Julia’s room.

Before challenging Julia, we head back north to pay the Magikarp thief those 500 Pokémon Dollars for the Pokémon’s return. Predictably, he does not uphold his end of the bargain, revealing he and the salesman were actually in cahoots to scam Trainers.

Xera defeats the two in a battle, but it’s revealed the thief can’t give back the Magikarp- because it was stolen from him for real, by a pickpocket who fled to Obsidia Ward. Something else to be solved later.

With some final training (including Riptide evolving into Croconaw), we return to the Gym to actually challenge the Gym Leader.

Julia engages Xera in her first Gym Battle in Reborn. After a lengthy and tense battle charged by Electric Terrain, Xera emerges victorious and earns the first Badge of the Reborn League: the Volt Badge.

Outside, Xera encounters Victoria. After congratulating Xera on her win, Victoria mentions the situation in Obsidia Ward regarding the plants apparently growing out of control. She wishes to go there and help, and suggests Xera do the same.

So that’s what we’re gonna be up to now! All signs point towards Obsidia Ward being the next destination, and I for one am excited. Finally, we’ll get to see some new sights and characters after spending so long in Peridot Ward! Will this go well? Will it go wrong? What kinds of new Pokémon will we encounter, wild encounters or static/event ones? And most important of all…will we be able to spend even more time with Victoria? We’ll have to see!

We're all the way to Goldenrod, so between that & Spencer's update I realized my Nuzlocke updates have been summarily underwhelming.

I beat Bugsy with no problems with my loyal Hoothoot Kairos to pretty much single-handedly trash the gym. Didn't really bother grinding up to level this time because I got Peck at an early enough level that it wasn't worth the time. The fight with Spencer/Silver (no screencap because I forgot) was much more difficult, because I still haven't caught anything that can deal with Quilava. Kairos and three Super Potions carried me through the fight though.

Onward to Goldenrod!

I encountered my second escaping Pokemon of the run on Rt. 34 in the form of an Abra. Threw a Great Ball, but no dice unfortunately. I also didn't get any new friends from the Slowpoke Cave, since I accidentally crit the Zubat that I ran into. I did double back all the way to Violet City to trade my Bellsprout Judas for an Onix, who is technically named Rocky but who I am referring to as 30 Pieces of Silver.

Our team going into the Goldenrod City Gym:

Seelah, the Sandshrew: caught in Union Cave, named after the iconic Paladin from Pathfinder. Expected to be one of the MVPs of this gym

Rocky/30 Pieces of Silver, the Onix: as mentioned, traded for. Expected to be the other MVP of this gym

Chai, the Oddish: caught in Ilex Forest, named after the resto druid from my guild

Hypnos, the Swinub: obviously my starter, named for the god of sleep

Joseph II, the Rattata: caught on Rt. 33, named in honor of his noble predecessor (and Youngster Joey before that, obviously)

The Egg from the Day Care, because I'm enough of an idiot to take on Whitney without a full team

Kairos is currently in the PC, because he won't be of much help here. My Gastly, Deirdre, is currently at Day Care, since I wanted to pick up the Egg and didn't notice the PC. Benedict the Togepi has also been relegated to the PC, since I have a plethora of Normal types on this team and didn't really need another.

If the levels on the screengrab look low, it's because my method was clear out the trainers -> level grind key team members up to 18/19 and non-key members to 16/17 before taking on the gym and I took the screengrab before starting on the trainers.

The plan was as follows: go in, 30PS tanks Clefairy (since he has type advantage), then Seelah tanks Rollout. This plan would have worked really well. Except:

Clefairy rolled Octakazoo Round 1 on Metronome, for a 1HKO on 30PS. I switched over to Seelah, who tanked the rest of that fight, but it took some doing.

I vastly overestimated how much damage Seelah could do, and had to devote time to healing her up from her fight with Clefairy. So Miltank killed her. I tried to send in Joseph II, but he got summarily curbstomped. The rest of my team quickly followed.

These are serious losses and I'm not sure how the run comes back from this. My team now has a type weakness against... virtually everything, since it's 3/4 normal and 1/4 ghost:

Benedict the Togepi: Rescued from the PC and back on the team.

Effimia the Igglybuff: Newly hatched from the Gift Egg and the latest addition to the team.

Kairos the Hoothoot: Back from the box, but on thin ice, since he has a type weakness against Rollout

Deirdre the Gastly: Gained a shocking 6 (!!!) levels in a few hours of Day Care. I had to sell off a Revive to get her back.

I can't finance any additional Potions for another Whitney attempt, and none of my Pokemon can use Cut to leave this area, so I'm stuck in Goldenrod. Probably going to call it for now to decide how to proceed from here.

Larry the tired office worker is iconic. His gym challenge has honestly been the most fun so far.

I've never actually played fire red or leaf green myself but I started with gen 3 also! Hoenn will always have a special place in my heart, even though there's not too much to do once you get past the league. Kiki is such a cute name! I'm horrible at coming up with names, so I mostly just leave them as is. -Genshin Anon

FR/LG isn't exactly top tier to me since my expectations stood higher as R/S/E was my first game, but to know that this is supposed to be the first ever game to represent Pokemon (well it's a remake but shh) feels justified haha so I can't say it's not reccomended to try it out sometime! if that makes sense.
