The Mario Movie Is Not Canon To The Games P1

Okay so it's become a common occurrence amongst a bit too many people who think the MarioMovieverse is canon to the MarioTalesverse. So I am here to tell you why this is wrong and point out all the contradictions between the Movie and Games. So Let's begin.

So to start off with this movie appears to be an origin story for the Bros., and the cast as a whole. This doesn't work for various reasons. First off the Bros. are in their modern attire instead of their Classic Outfits. The Classic Outfits as has been established to be what Mario and Luigi wore up until Super Mario Bros. 3 when they switched to their Modern Outfits.

Mario and Luigi also grew up in Brooklyn and are Italian Americans while the Mushroom Kingdom is on a separate planet in the movie. While the games through Yoshi's Island, Donkey Kong 94, Donkey Kong Land, and Super Mario Odyssey, it's established are from the Mushroom Kingdom and migrated to Big City. The Bros. living on the same planet as the Mushroom Kingdom was already and idea in the OVA before it was added to the games. While the original idea was for them to be from real world New York, and that they were Italian Americans. This was never stated in game or in manuals unlike the Koopaling retcon and Yoshi retcon. As of now they are native sons of the Mushroom Kingdom.

The events of Mario Bros./Did Somebody Call A Plumber never play out where the Bros. fight the Koopa Troopas, Fighter Flies, and Sidesteppers in the sewers eventually finding their way to the Mushroom Kingdom.

The events of Donkey Kong also don't play out in the movies either. Mario owned Donkey Kong Senior aka Cranky Kong as a pet in the games. While Cranky Kong kidnapped Pauline as a way to get a rise out of Mario. Cranky in the Movie is an adult and Leader of the Jungle Kingdom. Also, Cranky doesn't even know who Mario is.

Speaking of the Jungle Kingdom, it does not exist in the game universe. There is also no Kong Civilization in games, and what is ancient ruins in the games is in use structures. The Kongs in game are from the Kong Archipelago which is near the Metro Kingdom.

More stuff all the Kongs in the movie speak English, while in the games they speak Kongish.

Donkey Kong Junior the son of Cranky Kong and father of Donkey Kong III is not in the movies. Instead Donkey Kong III was made into Cranky's Son in the movies instead further establishing the difference between the 2 continuities. DK III also is implied to have met Mario in Mario Vs Donkey Kong.

Next up is Princess Peach, first off she wears a modern dress instead of her classic dress. But also, Peach's origin story is a creation of the movie and exclusive to the movie as established in a Nintendo Dream article in "I think it was probably something that was originally reflected, and we just had to decide how to explain it, and it was a clear cut feeling. This movie really clarified the setting (laughs). It was Matthew's invention." While in the games Peach is delivered to the Mushroom Kingdom via stork, and was raised by Toadsworth. Peach also wore princess attire when she was a Baby unlike her movie appearance. Peach would have interacted with the Baby Bros. which does not happen in the movie. This leads into the fact while the citizens if the Mushroom World in the Mario universe know what humans are. It's treated as a rare sight, the humans of Earth don't seem to know about the Mushroom Kingdom, and the Bros.' parents never mention it. Peach as a Princess and ruler who would have to interact with other leaders would have to know at least one other leader, aka Princess Daisy. Also, Peach uses her dress to float in the movie while in the games she uses magic.

Moving on the events of the Super Mario Bros. don't play out in the movie. Bowser doesn't invade the Mushroom Kingdom before the Bros. show up. Bowser doesn't capture the Princess from the start or turn the Toads to Bricks and Stone. Goombas don't betray the Mushroom Kingdom but are already part of Bowser's army in this movie, unlike in the games. And Luigi is not kidnapped in the SMB unlike in the movie.

Unlike the original game where Bowser is simply focused on conquest, the games have him already in love with Peach. Bowser also doesn't know who Mario is in the movie, while by Yoshi Story he knew who Mario was and hated Yoshis. Bowser is not captured at the end of SMB unlike in the movie where he is shrunken by a Mini Mushroom and taken captive. Also, in the movie Bowser had the intent to kill and was planning on sacrificing his captives. But in the games Bowser rarely actually tries to kill anyone and any implications he intends to is seen out of character. Bowser while is willing to torch others out of frustration, he doesn't necessarily attack his underlings unless the really annoy him like with Iggy or Kammy. We don't slam a piano lid on Kamek or set a Koopa Troopa on fire for a minor inconvenience. Bowser was also tone deaf in the games until it was fixed by the music keys. Before DDR he has note been shown to have the ability to sing like does in the movies because of this. Also, Bowser doesn't know what Spinys even though Spinys are turtles and part of the Turtle Tribe since the first game.

ASVDJWKDVSJDHF you cannot ask me something like this and not expect me to write an essay about it. I will go through this one by one. Quite the long post btw.

Subaru and makoto: my silly beloveds <3 the reason i started producing trickstar actually. I saw them making puns with each other and my brain was like "i will sell you my soul". Funny lil comedy duo. Except later i would find out about their pasts and now thinking about how they were funny dudes in high school despite all the tragedies that happened to them makes me wanna cry. Subaru who had no friends due to being isolated because everyone thought his dad was a murderer (not true) and makoto who was always alone because child modelling crushed his sense of self (also potential sexual abuse was hinted at? Thats messed up). And then they find each other and they're friends and they make jokes and for the first time they BELONG SOMEWHERE.

Subaru and mao: very insecure mao who feels like subaru is a genius shining star and that he doesn't deserve to be by his side. Lonely subaru who admires mao for how dependable he is and how everyone relies on him, giving mao the nickname of sari/sally based on a magician (also why maos solo is called magicians trick). The mutual pining. The admiration. Mao's "you outshine me so i don't deserve to be with you" and subaru's "I love you and want you to be here regardless". my heart hurts

Subaru and hokuto: god. They hate each other, they love each other, they fight all the time, they would never try to actually hurt each other on purpose, they are in constant competition against the other, but they also rely on the other all the time. Hokuto being one the first people that actually reached out to subaru, who understood from a very young age from his super idol father seiya how corrupted this industry is, who understood subaru before he ever reached out to him and wanted to fulfill his dreams and for subaru to never be alone again. Subaru who first thought that hokuto was a prince and a figment of his imagination when hokuto reached out to him because of how lonely he was and then just sticking to hokuto like glue after that. Oh my god this ship has literally everything.

Hokuto and mao: the ones with braincells that constantly have to deal with trickstar's bullshit <3 until hokuto gets angry, then mao has the last remaining braincell and has to stop him from murdering someone. Also mao's guilt for being on the student council and hokuto reassuring him that it's fine and then later on hokuto's guilt for almost betraying trickstar during ddd and now mao's the one reassuring him it's fine. Oof.

Mao and makoto: typical insecure nerd x confident jock, except the jock is also insecure. All jokes aside, every now and then i think about their first meeting, and how makoto was a junior in the gaming club and mao was a junior in the student council and they both feel like shit. Makoto's typical "i feel like shit so i will escape into videogames" and mao's "i feel like shit because i'm the student council's errand boy with no importance". But then the game club gets into some trouble and obviously it's mao whose burdened with that so he meets makoto for the first time and...is a huge ass to poor makoto. But then makoto offers to help mao in his errands together (even though he doesn't have to) and then mao apologizes for being an ass. And makoto forgives him. And on their way home they just...feel better together. They still feel like shit but the world is a little bit warmer in each others presence.

Makoto and hokuto: HOW DOES NO ONE SEE HOW CANON THIS IS. Hokuto is so so worried for makoto and just wants to see him doing better and is constantly looking out for him. The starmine quote where hokuto is just "i wanted the world to see your smile as well. That beautiful smile you only ever show us". And then shangri la where hokuto is straight up saying "i love you" to makoto. And 1st ss tour where subaru is like "Hokke! Ukki says he doesn't like you!" And hokuto replies with "is that so? Well, i still love you regardless" LIKE COME ON . I also think it's funny how in !-era makoto is the jokester guy and hokke is the serious one but in !!-era somehow hokke became unintentionally a lot funnier and makoto is like "when did we switch roles"

Sunghoon- Enphyen... Red + Green Flags

Sunghoon has a innocent ignorance to him. He believes things are a certain way and expects ppl to act the way he believes, but in reality not everything is so black and white. (The good thing about this side of his personality, is hes not not open to his mind being changed, the right person with the right amount of authority/attitude when calling him out on his ignorance can make him second guess everything he believed). He has a cold and harsh way of approaching ppl, especially when he thinks their doing something wrong. (I dont think he means to intentionally be harsh but hes harsh nonetheless). For an example, if a member was messing up choreo constantly, he would call them out " get it together. Dont move like that. Follow what the choreographer said to do" and maybe the member feelings would be hurt, the thing is Sunghoon would be the type to think " why are your feelings involved in this anyways, dance better and I wont say anything".

I see him not having a filter for pretty much anything he says, so he can hurt others feelings often

He may have unhealthy/ unrealistic romantic standards, like he may want to date someone that would fix him and his issues. He relays on his partner too much, to feel okay with himself and it may lead to codependency later

He is very up in his head about having a toxic fairytale woman, that will take care of him and take all of his problems away. But he does not do much for her, it's all centered around him. Also, In the meantime hes in a playboy stage of his life, kissing and charming many different women until he finds this special golden girl that will "shake his world up".

He can be very addictive to women, like they find themselves drawn to Sunghoon without him even doing much. Sunghoon may use his addictiveness to further himself in his career, use these women that are attracted to him to get places

He can disregard other peoples feelings and presence. Can be very inconsiderate as well

This guy knows a variety of things on a variety of subjects and this skill makes it easy for him to make friends, get ppl to like him. Like, I can see being the go to member to talk/know about slang or even do modern impressions of others on variety shows. (He definitely can become variety gold, like on the level of Heechul from Super Junior).

He holds a level of self-respect for himself, that's very royal or prince-like. Other ppl may feel compelled to bow deeper to him and give him proper respect just based off his aura, the way he carries himself.

He would be a very good, loyal friend to have. He finds gossiping and spreading rumors to be beneath him, so his friends wouldn't have to worry about him sharing their personal information. Hes not the betraying type, and is quite honest. Hes a good influence on his friends, encouraging others to do better and even without him saying anything, ppl around him feel the need to better their life and accomplish more.

Side note( Do you guys know if Sunghoon comes from a rich family? Like a chaebol family? Like stupid rich family? Bc I feel in the energy of this reading of a guy made of money, use to having it and is going to earn more of it)

He has a prim and proper way to him, and he knows how to show respect to others well. He has the right amount of generosity when it comes to sharing his money with others (not too much or too little)

Sunghoon may be an environmentalist, advocating for better treatment of the earth (he may not tolerate littering from himself or from others)

Bio: Kamek was an mysterious wizard koopa who is looking for a king to take things under its claw and suddenly out of no where. He found a baby named "Bowser". No one really knows where he comes from, Some say he was the son of the previous King and Queen Koopas that died during the great war while the other siblings of Bowser vanished and Even Kamek and King Koopa were close friends, maybe thats why Kamek took him in the first place. Kamek and Baby Bowser started out as swarn enemies with the Yoshi's in a low life clan in Yoshi Island. He was later caught in the middle of the events from "Yoshi's Island" and after the "Yoshi's Island DS", Bowser decide that he is gonna have to get his clan into a powerful shape and decide to build himself an empire in DarkLands with a Castle and Battleships to find the Super Stars and Take over the world.

11 Years past without any trouble to Yoshi's Island and remain at Darklands working onto their new fortress which involves lava, flight and extremal weaponry, He met a female koopa named "Clawdia Koopa" and would later become quickly romantically involved. Bowser sometimes take breaks to spend time with Clawdia as they seemed to be a prefect couple and even got married few years later. When Bowser first started out terrorizing and invading other kingdoms, Clawdia realizes concurring isn't her at all. So when "Bowser Jr" was born, she left and Bowser just unable to let it go. Bowser ends up in a devastating depression and Remains to Cope up with his depression on somethings. He still attacks the Mushroom World has he was recoding for the love one that walked out. Bowser found and force the young Koopalings to put them to work until Kamek made him realized that he too can bring others into his wings like Bowser was put into his and decides to adopts them.

Bowser then gets involves into attacking the Mushroom Kingdom he meet the love of his life that he kidnap's, "Princess Peach" as He has is goal up to Plan, Mario and Luigi defeated the Fire Breathing Beast. Soon after, the first 2 times, the constant kidnappings began. Even in some incasing that he has to team up with his rivals, ended up getting possessed, Play in soften sports, go karts and parties, he still made the right time to get back on his fleet. After Bowser loss in his previous invasion of the Mushroom Kingdoms, he and the Koopa Empire lay low and started planning something big. He even has some new equipment and weapons thanks to Gill Koopa, who was still working for him at the time.

When one of The Koopalings informs him about The Mario Bros Sister Mara shows up to The Mushroom Kingdom, Bowser founds a new idea as back up, so he sends Junior and The Koopalings to capture Mara and take her to his dungeon. Once meeting Mara, Bowser expails that he will use Mara as bait to finally get revenge on her brothers as all the schemes that Mario and Luigi has ruined. He realized that Mara has escaped, but he brushes it aside and gets back to the plan, not long after, Fire Gill Koopa and Banish from Darklands for life because he fears with a mind so sharp will betray him. While he was busy for a while, He let Kamek, his kids and Some of his troops cause some mayhem to The Mario Bros and Sis's and their friends to the world. All to know Bowser might strike again, He will always be a thorn in Mario's side.

Appearance: As much as I like The Movie version of Bowser, Its fear if I kind of change it to my version of Bowser, With some green spots on his back and tail, A Red Ring on shell, Black Punk Bracelets on Ankles and a Leather Punk color has a red gem on it that shows Bowser was top royalty.

Honestly this is so heartbreaking. They know that it would be not possible for them to continue as a group if they don't have a good response from the public with this album. Please, as someone who really loves SJ, support them. They have done a lot for the K-Pop industry and have been through many hard situations for them to end up without support for the closed minded fans of their own fandom and from the new generation. They deserve the world and lots more. And remember, if the world betrays Super Junior, ELF will betray the world

Subtext and Culture, Young Royals, Season 1, Episode 2

Episode 2 picks up the morning day after the initiation party, the girls are having breakfast lunch at their dorm, the boys at theirs, and everyone wants the juicy details about what happened at the party...

Culture: Tell me more, tell me more, did you get very far? Although, it's pretty funny how the roles are reversed, Maddie is all "meh" about it, while Nils tells a different story. Then again, since when do you get together after a blowjob?

Culture: I actually have no idea why Simon is having breakfast at Skogsbacken, since regular schools only cover lunch for students, everyone eats breakfast at home, and then goes to school. Then again, it allows a scene where (Never mind, they're having lunch, thanks @kamand !) Blink and you miss it: Wilhelm casts some nervous glances at Simon after having been called out for disappearing at the party and almost forced to confess to making out with someone.

Culture: I know Felice is trying to put August down, but don't knock a proper Swedish pizza! As much as I like living in the US, they can't fucking make pizzas here, and the first thing I eat every time I go back to Sweden is always a real pizza. With pineapple and shrimp as God intended pizza to be made!

Culture: August is namedropping ski resorts in the Alps, which is where you go skiing in Europe if you have money, although Saint-Martin-de-Belleville is actually near Val Thorens in France, while Verbier is in Switzerland. It does have a three-star restaurant, though. Sweden and Norway have a couple of decent ski resorts, but the Scandinavian mountain chain is simply not as impressive as the Alps.

Subtext: Remember Wilhelm getting up and hurrying to math class in the beginning of the scene? It was so he could grab the other seat next to Simon, because he knows Simon is gonna sit next to Sara, since no-one else does.

Culture: Formally greeting your teacher before class is very uncommon in Sweden, but since Hillerska is all about discipline and tradition, of course they do it. Note that they're again using the formal Swedish title for male teachers, Magister, which in a regular school would be kind of a joke, since teachers and students are on a first-name basis with each other.

Subtext: Wilhelm is exposing how the world works if you have money. At Simon's old school, studying alone would result in good grades, but Hillerska is slightly corrupt and almost expects the students to essentially pay for getting a good grade.

Subtext: Simon is lying to his teacher, he absolutely hasn't talked to his parents about paying for private lessons.

Subtext: No, Sara absolutely does care about what other people think about her, and when she directly tells Felice that she would actually like some friends, that's when Felice gets it and starts making an effort to become real friends with her.

Culture: They're all bilingual at Simon's home, they're all speaking Spanish and Swedish, although Linda has a very noticeable accent to her Swedish. Based on demographics and statistics, the most likely scenario is that Linda immigrated to Sweden from Chile, met Micke, and started a family. In real life, Omar Rudberg was born in Venezuela and grew up in Sweden, while Carmen Gloria Pérez was born in New York, and grew up in Puerto Rico.

Subtext: Remember how I talked in the intro post about how distant social classes know nothing of each other? Ayub and Rosh are either working class or lower middle class like Simon, and since rowing is a typical upper class sport, they know nothing of it, they don't even think of it as a real sport. Unlike football, which is a proper working class sport, they know all about that!

Subtext: Scandinavia has Jantelagen, and everyone there thinks it's uniquely Scandinavian, but all countries have some form of Tall Poppy Syndrome. In this scene, Simon is starting to make a class journey, he started rowing, he started trying to fit in with the other upper-class kids, and getting into a relationship with someone as upper-class as Wilhelm would definitely move him all the way. But going on a journey means leaving things behind, which is why Rosh and Ayub are cutting him down and literally turning their backs on him. They like it in the small town of Bjärstad, why can't he be happy there too? Why is he betraying his roots?

Subtext: This comment from August nicely foreshadows a later episode when August does something traceable on a School computer...

Subtext: What August means is that he's not sure Wilhelm has the same desire to be accultured into the upper class, to play the part of a proper prince, in the same way that he and Erik have accepted their roles and are even enjoying them.

Culture: Although it's impossible to read the name of the medicine, the paper tag on the bottle indicates that it's some kind of prescription medicine. From the conversation with Vincent, we learn that it's some kind of ADHD medication, probably some kind of Dextroamphetamine since those improve athletic ability and cognitive functions in healthy people.

Culture: Birkenstock sandals are associated with hippies in Sweden as well as in many parts of the world, so August is actually saying that the school counselor isn't really part of the same upper-class society as the rest of the staff. And again, his use of the word sosse drives the point home.

Subtext: Consequently, the counselor sees right through August and refuses to immediately prescribe him the medication that he wants...

Subtext: ...even though August tries to both bribe him and threaten him into giving him the medication he wants.

Subtext: A big theme of this episode is class journeys, and in this scene and a previous exercise scene, August gushes about how good a thing that is, how proud he is of Simon for going on one, and spouts some crap about how everyone can make it if they really want to.

Subtext: Thankfully, Madison says what we're all thinking: August is full of shit, life isn't fair, and they're only at the school because they were born into privilege.

Blink and you miss it: After Wilhelm has nervously texted his crush for the first time, he starts to bite his fingernails, but quickly stops himself, because why would he be nervous? He's just texting another boy about rowing practice, there's nothing more to it!

Subtext: Simon's texting game is on point though, he knows exactly what he should write to get Wilhelm to go on a totally-not-a-date with him.

Subtext: In the same way that August couldn't convince the counselor about being sick, I don't think Wilhelm's atrocious acting here convinces August that he's sick either.

Culture: Public transport in the greater Stockholm area - or wherever we're supposed to be - is of course cash-less, and you pay by either charging a special card, or by signing up in their app and buying tickets through there. The point of this scene though is to drive home how Wilhelm has never ever had to take the bus before in his life, and therefore has no idea how it works.

Culture: The totally-not-a-date starts at a Circle K, which in Sweden is just another gas station, but it is actually a Canadian multi-national convenience store corporation. The price of gas is of course posted in kr/l, and 13.98kr/l corresponds to roughly $6/gal.

Subtext: Throughout the totally-not-a-date, Wilhelm is trying to reach for common ground with Simon, trying to show him how he's just a regular guy...

Subtext: ...but then real life intrudes, Wilhelm is recognized by some local girls, who call out to him and run away giggling, which shows how he's not a regular guy, he's going to get recognized wherever he goes.

Culture: Kokt eller grillat, boiled or grilled, are the two ways you can get your hot-dog at pretty much any hot-dog place in Sweden, and ketchup and mustard is always offered. The correct answer to this question is of course grilled, with ketchup and mustard, and this just shows that Wilhelm is a man of culture and good taste. Unfortunately, they were out grilled ones, so they all got boring soggy boiled hot-dogs instead. Is there a metaphor here? I don't know.

Subtext: Again, the show drives home the point that absolutely no-one has a problem with people being gay. Simon is clearly out to Ayub and the rest of his friends, and Ayub immediately picks up on the fact that this is totally a date.

Blink and you miss it: Ayub nudges Simon with his elbow to tell him that he should make a move on Wilhelm.

Culture: What we're looking at is just the local junior/high school football team, Bjärstad, playing a match against some other unnamed junior football team. Since the stakes are super low, the audience basically consists of whichever parents and friends of the players that could be bothered showing up.

Culture: Driving age is 18 in Sweden, and even then getting your own car at that age is extremely uncommon. However, you can easily get a license for a moped when you turn 15, so these are the vehicles of choice for teenagers to get around.

Subtext: August found out about Wilhelm's trip to town, but his main problem with it is that he wants Wilhelm to stop slumming it with lower class people, and to start hanging out with everyone at school instead, so that he can be properly accultured into the upper class. Again, sosse in this context means working class, not socialist.

Subtext: Although Simon felt really great about his first date with Wilhelm, the text message reminds him that Wilhelm isn't a regular person, and that even this innocent little trip generates interest and scrutiny, and can't be posted publicly.

Culture: As everyone should have noticed by now, Madison keeps speaking English, while everyone speaks to her in Swedish, so clearly she understands it. But here she gives her motivation for sticking to English, and that is that she doesn't feel she's good enough at speaking Swedish. Boarding schools like Hillerska attracts international students that have some kind of connection to the country, so a likely scenario is that Madison grew up in the US with a Swedish parent, and she's being sent here to experience Swedish culture and get immersed in the language to learn it better.

Cinematography: This shot of August drives really home all the pressure he is under, he's out of drugs, the headmistress just hinted that he's out of money, and he's literally being weighed down by books and work-out weights.

Subtext: Simon has kept his visits to Micke a secret from Sara, so here he has to intervene to make sure August doesn't accidentally reveal this to her. He also wants to protect his sister, so he's redirecting August's search for drugs onto himself.

Subtext: And on the flipside, Simon isn't really telling his dad that Sara still hates him and really doesn't want to see him, so he's vague when Micke asks about Sara and Linda.

Culture: Finally a bottle of medicine where we can read the label! Unfortunately for Simon, this is Tramadol, an opiate prescribed for pain relief, which is the complete opposite of the kind of drugs August wants.

Subtext: If you haven't figured out yet that this episode is about class journeys, August spells it out for us here. However, the reason he's "congratulating" Simon in front of everybody is because Simon just supplied him with more drugs, so this is his way of thanking him, since he can't really pay him.

Blink and you miss it: For a split second, Wilhelm grabs Simon's leg during the scary scene.

Subtext: The entire dialogue of the movie works as subtext for what's actually going on between Wilhelm and Simon at this point, and Wilhelm is getting a little freaked out by this sneaky display of affection.

Subtext: The movie also puts words on the implications of Wilhelm getting together with a boy, what about having kids in the future? Can you carry on your family name and traditions, or will they die with you?

Lost in translation: The plaque actually says "FEEL YOUR RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE HERITAGE". Even though the plaque means the heritage and legacy of the school itself, Wilhelm is thinking about his legacy, his heritage, and how getting together with Simon would threaten that.

Lost in translation: Wilhelm actually says "jag är inte en..." - "I'm not a..." before he stops himself. So it's not possible that he was trying to say "I'm not gay", because that doesn't work grammatically in Swedish either. He could be trying to say "I'm not a guy like that" or "I'm not a guy who likes guys", that would work.

Cinematography: The framing and silhouetting of this shot is just chef's kiss. The outline of their hair allows us to see who is who, and we can see from their poses that Simon is welcoming a kiss, while Wilhelm is still hesitating.

New Years Dash is one of my favorite events in NJPW, it takes place the day after WK and it generally sets up new storylines for the year to come. you never really know what’s going to happen

this particular NYD (Jan 5th, 2016 - Official LINK, Unofficial LINK) is extremely good. Kenny and AJ have a tag match against Nakamura and YOSHI-HASHI, and Kenny (still a junior) pins Nakamura (the IC champion) winning the match. It’s the exact kind of Proving himself he set out to do by joining bullet club

and as they celebrate the victory Kenny looks over at AJ Styles

The other members of bullet club rush out to intervene, but when it comes down to a question of Kenny vs anyone else (a question they are forced to face fairly often), the Young Bucks pick Kenny.

Kenny didn't sell his soul, carve out his own heart, and get saddled with a ring name like “The Cleaner” just so he could be some lowly underling. Now that he’s had a chance to feel the full breadth and depth of his own ambition, he’s come to believe that he is The Best Wrestler in the World and he’s ready to prove it. Who the hell is AJ Styles anyway?

When we next see Kenny his gear has changed

and they are multi-purpose

1. Kenny irl wasn’t especially interested in the silent/cold/calculating “badass” character njpw gave him, these new pants are colorful and a bit silly, asserting his own interpretation of his character over the company’s (kind of like with the broom shtick)

2. they kind of match the Young Bucks’ gear (colorful and with fringe), signaling their connection

3. these pants become Kenny’s Not A Serious Match gear, he only wears them when he’s in matches that he sees as Unimportant, and for those matches he also keeps his shirt on. So they can be used to demonstrate his contempt for his opponents (wearing them even in title matches against those he sees as unworthy etc.)

Kenny and Tana’s IC title match is really, really fun (Feb 14, 2016 - Official LINK, Unofficial LINK) there is some ridiculous, elaborate cheating involving the bucks, it’s so funny that one of the japanese commentators actually bursts out laughing

Kenny wins

it’s a huge moment, not only because it’s his first heavyweight title (something Kota was never able to achieve) but also because he wins it from Hiroshi Tanahashi, the Ace of NJPW, one of the Big Three wrestlers of NJPW, and Kota’s wrestling god

NJPW makes a short documentary called Second Home [April 2016 - Official LINK, Unofficial LINK] about Kenny as new IC champ. In it they go to the location of his first match against Kota, and it’s clear that even now, in this moment of triumph, Kenny is still mourning Kota’s absence

Suplemental - Villains Who Are Sometimes Heroes  

Often times, the best villains are those who do not necessarily seem themselves as such.  They are the heroes of their own stories and believe their villainous actions are in the service of some form of a greater good.  As such, there are numerous instances in which a villain will come to act in the role of hero or antihero, where the bad guy is actually the good guy, or a former nemesis becomes a sudden ally.  Following the jump are some of my favorite villains who frequently end up playing a heroic role…

There can be no doubt that both Deathstroke and Bane are bad to the bone. Yet each have acting in the role of antihero more times than can easily counted. 

Poison Ivy is less villainess than ecological warrior.  Her actions may be evil in the minds of many, but for her she is merely defending the wellbeing of plant life and attempting to stave off mankind’s thoughtless efforts to make the planet inhospitable to both flora and fauna alike.

The Flash’s Rogues, especially Captain Cold, HeatWave, The Pied Piper and The Trickster are most certainly cads… yet they all abide by their own particular code of honor and conduct.  As such, they have been many a time where these rogues have fought along side heroes as opposed to against them.

The Shade has been one of the Justice Society’s most formidable of adversaries.  And yet it was later revealed that he isn’t that bad a guy and it was the malignant possession of the devious Culp who was responsible for most of his villainous deeds.  

Both The Star Sapphire and Goldface each began as villains but ended up heroes.  

Knockout and Scandal are wonderful and I’ll hear no bad words about them.  

Brainwave Junior‘s turn as a villain was initially attributed to his difficulties with mental illness, but it was later revealed to be the machinations of the evil Mr. Mind.  Once the little creep was expelled, Brainwave Jr. became good again. whew!

The second Tattooed Man started off a villain but later became a hero, only to be killed in Heroes in Crisis (hopefully he’ll get better like most of the victims of Sanctuary).  As for Harlequin, she only acted as a villain to get the attention of her crush, Green Lantern (Alan Scott)… boy was she barking up the wrong tree.

Bizarro is not necessarily bad, rather he’s naive and easily manipulated and the majority of his evil acts have been the result of coercion by way of more purely evil villains.  And under the right direction, Bizarro can very much be a force for good, such as the time he served as a hero among The Red Hood’s band of Outlaws.  

Anarky is a political extremist and Thorne suffers from some sort of psychological malady.  Sometimes their on the right side of a conflict, sometimes on the wrong.  Are they bad guys… whose to say?

This guy… where do I even start?  Lex Luther certainly does not see himself as a villain; he’s out to save the world.  And there have been many a time where he has achieved exactly that.  He could have been hero on par with the greatest in the DC Universe… if only he hadn’t stolen all of those pies!

Plastique began as a terrorist and villain yet spent a brief time as a hero, a result of her romance with Captain Atom.  Alas the affair between the two proved to be short live, and so time did Plastique’s time as a hero.  As he Deadshot, he’s a stone-cold killer, yet his time with The Suicide Squad and Secret Six has hoisted him into the role of antihero… a role that proved a surprisingly good fit for the deadly marksman.

Cheshire is a deadly assassin who has proven formidable nemesis of The Teen Titans.  When he daughter’s wellbeing is on the line, however, the killer is quick to aide her one time rivals.  

Painkiller started off as a villain yet has recently turned to the role of antihero; mostly a result of the character’s involvement in the Black Lightning television series.  As for Manchester Black, I’m never going to be convince to trust this creepy peet… yet Superman has decided to do just that, recruiting the cad into his new team The Elite.

Both Fataly and Bleez have very good reasons to be as angry and vengeful as they are.  And though both have battled the Green Lanterns on multiple occasions, they have also assisted the corps in joining forces against common enemies.  

Thomas Blake made for a rather lousy super villain during his early years as Catman.  After a much-needed Gail Simone make-over, however, he became a truly terrific antihero.  Plus, anyone who likes cats as much as he does can’t be all that bad, right?

Although technically villains, I wouldn’t classify Jenette nor Black Alice as necessarily bad…  They both just have a different way of looking at the matter of morality.

Don’t mess with Lady Shiva… let’s just leave it at that.

Polymath’s tenure as a villain was merely a result of her desperation to save her father.  Once the Wonder Twins helped her do just that, she resigned from her villainous ways.  Shado‘s deal is a bit more complicated.  The devious archer has proven a formidable adversary to Green Arrow, but there has also been many a time where the two have fought side by side.  

So Dex-Starr is a rage-filled murder machine possessing awesome power.  Yet that is pretty much the case for all house cats, so I don’t see what the big deal is…

Both Killer Frost and Magenta fell into the antiquated trope of powerful women becoming evil due to some sort of hysteria.  Sure they’ve been bad guys plenty of times, but they have each also acted as heroes as well.  

Just like his father, Icicle Junior has taken the road of villainy, becoming a member of The injustice Society of America.  When The ultra Humanite took over the world, however, Icicle joined forces with The Justice Society and played a pivotal role in saving the day.  As for Junior’s baby-mama, Tigress, she remains a villainess… in the DC Animated Universe of Young Justice, however, Artemis is very much a hero.  Feels like only a matter of time before the comic book universe follows suit, turing The tigress from villain to hero.  

Both Clayface and Man-Bat are less villains than they are victims of circumstance.  And while each have battled Batman more times than can be counted, there has also been times where the pair have aided The Dark Knight. 

Once heralded as the greatest of The Green Lanterns, Sinestro’s path to villainy came as a facet of his quest to bring order to the galaxy.  His tyrannical notions aside, there has still been plenty a time where he has once more joined forces with his former allies among the corps.  

Both The Rubber Band Man and Major Disaster began as villains, but switched over to being heroes.  Major Disaster even served for a brief while as a member of The Justice League International.  

Lobo is a genocidal trashbox who has most likely had inappropriate relations with space dolphins.  Yet people seem to like reading about this jerk which has foisted him into the role of antihero.  I still think he’s garbage, but will admit that his daughter is super cool.  

These three don’t even require particular mention.  Catwoman, Black Adam and Harley Quinn’s roles as hero/antihero have been enough that they receive placement on both the 365 Villains list as well a the 365 Heroes list.  Quite the accomplishment! 

A rarity on this list… Terra started out a hero but it was later revealed that she was a double agent, a villain sent by Deathstroke to infiltrate and betray the Teen Titans.  She perished but later returned again, either cloned or resurrected or something like that.  In any case, she’s a hero again so yay…

So there you have it, a collection of scum and villainy who have, on occasion, acted in the role of hero.  Have I missed anyone important?  Let me know.

💌 REQUESTS: open | I decided to post this even though only one had voted for this exhibit. Plus, I wanted to try my hand into writing this. This reaction post is dedicated to the anonymous who voted for exhibit B. 

Hongjoong:

News broke out today as Y/N and TXT’s Beomgyu are dating, followed by a statement confirmations from VS Media and Big Hit Entertainment. Furthermore, Dispatch released a series of photos of the new couple going on secret dates, supporting the confirmations that the two had been in fact been dating for a few months already. 

The news shocked the whole nation. Many fans congratulated the couple, but many others were upset by the news and have claimed that they have been ignoring their fans. Once of the many others who were upset was Hongjoong. He felt betrayed that you would dare that someone who doesn’t really love you and would only use your name and fame to be in the same level as you. He thinks this is a sick PR stunt and that it had to be over. But seeing as it was real, Hongjoong took it into the internet to create petitions such as removing Beomgyu from the group. His feelings would be so crushed that he wouldn’t look at your face or say your name in a long period of time. But the guilt of not loving you ate his insides that he couldn’t bare not giving you the special treatment he offers you. 

Once Y/N and Beomgyu released an apology letter for not letting the fans know about their relationship, he could only scoff and think that the apology is insincere and lacks emotion. He continues to leave abusive and hateful comments about the two until it reaches to the point that Y/N and Beomgyu had to break up. When the two broke up, Hongjoong felt never better. 

Seonghwa: 

As someone like Seonghwa who follows you around with his camera in hand, he already knew that you kept meeting with The Boyz’s Haknyeon multiple times. He didn’t believe that you two are just close friends. So he ran around starting rumours of you two dating on the internet, followed by a thread of pictures that he caught. And shortly afterwards, VS Media and Cre.Ker confirmed that Y/N and Haknyeon had been in fact dating. 

It made Seonghwa so sick that both fans support the couple. In his rage, he threw and trashed everything in his sight. Creating a chaos both in his mind and in his home. He thought that you were stupid for dating someone that isn’t him. Why Haknyeon when you have him? Seonghwa who knew you with his eyes closed and at the back of his hand. He thought he had you figured out, but outsmarted him. 

He couldn’t accept that the love of his life dating somebody else that he went on killing spree, killing Haknyeon’s fans before he could reach the idol himself. To Seonghwa, there is no other potential lover like him and him only. 

Yunho: 

He knows that Y/N is a big fan of Super Junior’s Eunhyuk. He is the idol that she looks up to and is the reason why she entered the entertainment industry. But when the news of Y/N and Eunhyuk broke out by Dispatch as the new year couple, it was definitely not a happy new year for Yunho. 

Yunho didn’t like how you would go home to someone else. It should be him that you would go home to. He expressed his distaste online by supporting hate comments on the couple, resharing and retweeting posts to garner further attention. He would leave hate comments not only to Eunhyuk but to Y/N as well. He felt so heartbroken that he couldn’t help but spat out derogatory messages to you. 

Day and night, Yunho continued to add flame to the fire until one day Y/N and Eunhyuk parted ways due to the pressure they felt in the public eye. When they broke up, Yunho threw a party at his home. 

Yeosang: 

Yeosang is someone who is just like Seonghwa, who invests his time and energy on Y/N. You are his world, without you, life is meaningless as it is only you that keeps the world together and functioning. Especially Yeosang. When he heard the love of his life dating her ‘Witch’ co star and leading man Treasure’s Hyunsuk, he laughed at the articles. Knowing too well that you would never say yes to someone who isn’t Yeosang. 

And when the news tablets released a statement that Y/N and Hyunsuk denied the accusations, he felt proud of himself. But that doesn’t mean he would go easy on you two as he read on the article that Hyunsuk fell for you while filming. 

San: 

We all know how celebrities post photos online and immediately delete it afterwards in a blink of an eye, right? The same situation happened to Y/N and EXO’s Sehun. Apparently, Y/N had posted a photo of Sehun cuddling on top of her in bed and deleted it afterwards. 

San didn’t like what he saw and broke his phone at the sight of someone else being too close and intimate with you. Let alone that it wasn’t him who was giving you that attention. That day, San came up with an ultimate plan to get rid of him even if both entertainments denied the speculation. 

On the day of EXO’s comeback stage, San had purposefully and successfully slipped a coffee drink to Sehun infused with clear chemicals. He was happy that the idol was brought to the hospital but cursed to himself as it was not enough to kill him. 

Mingi:

Recently, Mingi joined a groupchat with other “fans” who holds various informations about idols and would form groups to accomplish “tasks”. Mingi, along with the other so-called fans got into various fields of jobs such as airline, phone and credit card companies. In Mingi’s case, he got into a credit card company that had you as one of their top holder. 

So when he finally got a hold of your purchases, he was surprised to see that you had been shopping at a certain men’s fashion brand. Following it up, there were rumors of you and Seventeen’s Mingyu seeing each other. To Mingi’s rage, he exposed your credit card number along with the purchases that you made online and offline. His post analytics gathered eleven thousand impressions with thirty thousand interactions. Minutes later, a case was filed against him for violating contracts. 

But never was Mingi thrown into prison. His friendly groupchat paid upon him and cleared all his charges. Mingi still walks a free man until this date. 

Wooyoung: 

Wooyoung felt like he was stabbed in the back when the news of Y/N and Nuest’s Minhyun confirmed to be dating for months. How could he not see this? He would be so devastated that he will have no control on what he is doing. 

And since he has no control on what he is doing, he would take a knife and carve out the words “Don’t forget me Y/N. I only have you. I love you.” on his waist skin. Following it up, he continued to carve the words “Come back to me, Y/N” on the skin of his wrists. He would take pictures of his motive act and post it online. His post alone gathered international attention and led to the breakup of the couple, followed by an apology statement from Y/N herself. 

When Wooyoung read the apology, he didn’t hesitated to leave a private message on Y/N’s social media. “That’s okay. You’re stupid but I love you.” 

Jongho: 

He would be so devastated but at the same time furious as how you could give yourself away to someone else just like that. He didn’t like how the agencies confirmed the news of you and OnlyOneOf’s Yoojung dating. Much to his anger, he would rip out the pages of his merchandise of you and burn them. Taking pictures and then posting them online.

X-Men AU!!! Found Family + Anxceit friendship. TW: child soldiers, child endangerment, abuse etc

(So typical X-men universe set up: some people are born with the X gene, which typically triggers during puberty, giving that person a mutation which normally results in cool powers. Many people hate mutants for their differences (/ bad press of people using their mutant powers for the evilz) and so most mutants live in hiding. The Xavier Institute is a school set up by an extremely powerful mutant which seeks to provide a safe space for young mutants to learn to manage their powers, get a regular education and hopes to see peace between humanity and mutant kind. The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants is a group of mutants who believe humans will never let mutant live in peace and do various anti-human, pro-mutant vaguely terrorist-y actions (there’s like a billion version of the x-men and these details may not be correct for all the versions all of the time because comics but this is the vague idea))

ANYWAY PLOT - Containment breach at the Super Secret Child Soldier Lab (SSCSL) - Subject VII has escaped. Subject VII is only 6-7 years old but his mutations were artificially triggered much younger than is normal. He can warp reality and create very sophisticated illusions, but has very limited control over his powers.

Cut too - Virgil and Dee, a couple of teenage mutants living on the street. They find a little boy with a buzzcut wandering around The Bad Part Of Town and Virgil immediately decides they need to adopt/help him (Dee makes more of a fuss about how this is not their responsibility and the kids barely even talking and do you know how hard I work just to keep you and now you wanna add another mouth to feed?? Huhh?? but obviously does not actually say no) (Dee is like. Barely any older than Virgil he’s just dramatic). 

Naturally, just as the three of them have had time to bond, the SSCSL and other assorted bad guys show up to try and take VII back. There’s a big fight, Virgil and Dee have a lot more experience with flight and would probably have ended up dead if the X-men (Patton and Logan) hadn't shown up to save them. 

But they lose VII.

Patton and Logan take them back to the Xavier institute to recuperate and offer to let them stay. They can go to school there, get some training and help the X-men track down VII and the whole SSCSL. Virgil says yes, Dee says no.

(So, reasoning - Virgil's mutation developed when he was 12. It was not pleasant. Various students at his school were injured and the media set up a which hunt for the mutant that caused the chaos. Virgil ran away from home because he was worried about the backlash on his family and about hurting anyone else again. So to him, this school full of mutants who can help him control his power, can offer him stability and a return to normal structures and routines, who are promising to help him get in contact with his parents if and when he’s ready?? This is like every fantasy he’s ever had come true

Unlike the other characters, Dee’s primary mutation is physical. He was born with it, its very obvious and its resulted in him being rejected for most of his life. He bounced around increasingly disturbing foster homes before running away when he was very young, so most of his memories are of living on the streets and surviving on his own. So, to him, number one: all adults are inherently untrustworthy idiots and number two: stay at a school? where they expect him to have a curfew? and, what - write essays? follow all their random arbitrary rules? rely on them for food and heat and all that shit? Completely ludicrous.)

It doesn't occur to either of them that the other one isn't going to agree with them. The resulting argument is epic and cruel, both hurling accusations at the other (Ungrateful /controlling are two of the big ones..) and both basically feeling hateful and 100% betrayed. Dee leaves and although they look for him, he’s got a lifetime experience of hiding and they cant find him.

CUT TO - 5 years later. Virgil is a (semi) well adjusted 19 year old junior X-men. He’s still a bit withdrawn, but is very close with Patton and Logan. He’s still holding out hope of finding VII one day and still firmly pretending he’s not listing out for any possible news of Dee (there were rumours some years ago of him joining the brother hood of evil mutants but then it all went quiet) who he, of course, hates for his betrayal. 

BUT THEN - mysterious knocking at the door in the night. Dee, now wearing a hat and cape and calling himself Janus, has returned. And he’s brought with him a little boy with a buzzcut and a tattoo of XXII on his foot.

Janus and Virgil need to put aside their resentment and work together to help XXII, who really does not seem interested in helping them, and hopefully use any clues he can give them about the SSCSL to track down VII. But that's difficult when they’re both still struggling with their own trauma and have no idea how to reconnect - both of them want to ask why do you hate me but are a bit too scared of the answer. ...

Patton - 22/27 years old. An extremely powerful telepath/empath. It takes him serious concentration and focus to not hear peoples thoughts and its almost impossible to not feel their feelings. Some people dislike him because of this as they feel he's spying on them. Grew up in the Xavier institute and 100% believes in and is committed to the future where humans and mutants live in harmony. Has pretty limited life experience in the real world. Sometimes floats. (inspired by professor X)

Logan - 21/26 years old. Fires destructive laser beams from his eyes. Was in a car accident when he was younger leaving him with permanent but apparently harmless brain damage - until his mutation developed and he slowly realised that no matter how much he trained he just couldn't control his power. Has to wear specialised eye guards at all times to keep himself from accidentally destroying everything around him. Had big plans to go to university and was angry at his mutation for a long time for getting in the way of that. Eventually enrolled online and is now a very dedicated teacher at the Institute. (inspired by cyclops) 

Janus - 15(?) / 20(?) His primary mutation is  lizard/snake like scales over most of his body, but especially the left side. Has oversized fangs, and yellow eye and a short lizard tail. His secondary mutation makes him immune to almost any sort of mental based mutation (so Logan could still knock him on his ass with his lasers, but Patton cant sense anything form him and Virgil cant whammy him). Spent a lot of his life on his own and got by being sneaky, cunning and charming. Initially took Virgil in because he saw that his powers could be useful for keeping them both safe, but eventually Virgil became his first real friend.

Virgil - 14/19. Shadow manipulation and ‘draining’. Virgil can make himself (and with practice, people he touches) literally disappear into the shadows. He can also direct shadows as powerful energy ‘blasts’, but in order to do so he has to drain any surrounding living things of their energy. When his mutation first developed  he took out half of the school hall where his exam was being held, leaving 15 students in a coma. (inspired by rouge/shadow cat)

VII - 6? / 11? Reality warping/illusion powers. One of the institutes first successful subjects. He was able to escape by changing the wall of his cell into a door. He finds it hard to talk but can project his ideas as lifelike illusions who can talk for him. One of his best is the image a handsome grown up Prince and he will often use this Illusion as an avatar to communicate. When he was 6 he did have some hazy memories of outside the SSCSL and expressed a desire to go home. Current status is unknown. 

XXI - 7.  Illusion powers  (reality warping has been removed from the program by his time as subjects proved too difficult to control). Has no memories of outside the institute and is extremely uncooperative with his new captors/guardians. He does not understand the affection they’re trying to show him and lashes out a lot, often by creating a lot of extremely disturbing and graphic illusions. Bites.

Captain Fray: The Trash Superman

Look up in the sky! Is it a bird? A plane? No, it’s... an ugly, homeless bald man cackling evily while raining trash on the city with an army of sludge monsters, shortly before getting beaten up by a group of meddling kids. It’s just dumb old Captain Fray again getting foiled by Monica’s Gang, nevermind him. He does that every Tuesday. 

Monica’s Gang are arguably the most iconic of all Brazilian comic book characters, having maintained popularity for 60 years and with unmatched worldwide recognition. They’ve had cartoons, a cinematic universe of films both cartoon and live-action, plays, a long-running manga spin-off that turned them into teenagers, crossovers everywhere ranging from The Big Two’s superheroes to Osamu Tezuka’s properties (as Monica’s creator Mauricio and Tezuka were acquaintances), at least one theme park, and much, much more. Even past Brazil’s borders, where they are a cultural institution on a scale matched only by Disney, these are some of the world’s most popular characters, starring in just about any kind of adventure imaginable and then some. 

However, if you go into the world of Monica’s Gang, and look for a flying man with a chest logo, a cape and impossible superpowers, you’ll instead find their greatest arch-enemy: Captain Fray (actual name Capitão Feio, which translates to Captain Ugly), real name Feioso Araújo. Who will be happy to remind you time and time again of what a rotten, no-good scoundrel he is, even if he has to pick a fight with the Big Blue himself to prove it.

So let’s talk about perhaps the most iconic “caped superhero” of Brazilian comic books, even if he’s ultimately a long, long shot from being one.

Despite the long, worldwide spanning history of the superhero, the idea of the superhero as a cape-wearing uniformed superpowered do-gooder has remained a largely American concept, as different regions have their own unique icons. The titular 4 members of Monica’s Gang have on many occasions taken the role of superheroes, and they’ve built up a massive Rogues Gallery over decades, despite not looking like the usual idea of a superhero. Monica, Jimmy Five, Smudge and Maggy, for the most part, look and act like kids, with odd quirks. 

To briefly describe the 4: Monica is the pudgy, bucktoothed ruler of the group as well as the neighborhood, being super strong and more than willing to hit people who mock her with her stuffed rabbit “Samson”. Jimmy Five has a speech impediment, and he constantly schemes to take Monica’s role as leader, best described at times as a junior Lex Luthor to Monica’s Superman. Maggy is Monica’s friend with an uncontrollable appetite, and the witty and perpetually dirty Smudge is Jimmy Five’s friend and accomplice in schemes. Smudge is defined by his complete and total refusal to take a bath or even come into contact with water under any circumstances, and some stories play up Smudge’s dirtyness to the point of superpower.

It’s Smudge in particular who’s gonna be relevant to this post, because the first time Captain Fray was introduced, he was introduced as Smudge’s good-natured and humorous uncle, a comic book addict surrounded by piles of dusty comics, particularly those of Smudge’s favorite superhero, Captain Pitoco, a sort of Superman/Buzz Lightyear analogue. Eventually, Smudge’s uncle is surrounded by dust, and out of it, he transforms “back” into a former alter-ego, Captain Fray, a megalomaniac supervillain horrified at just how clean the world is, and who decides to sully it as much as possible, flying around the city spreading dirt rays and even transforming the population into pollution-fanatics. Eventually he’s defeated and transformed back into normal, only thinking he had a weird dream. 

Upon subsequent appearences, Fray would acquire things like sludge minions, underground lairs and ever increasing powers (like in the above sequence where he somehow destroys a rainbow and darkens the sky with a single gesture), although he would eventually gain a Kryptonite-esque weakness to water. Captain Fray would go on to become the most reocurring villain of Monica’s Gang for the next 40 years, as the former concept of him being Smudge’s uncle was dropped and he became instead the ruler of an underground race of sludge monsters created by him, who’d occasionally come on to the surface in order to engage in supervillain plots to take over the world and spread dirt and pollution everywhere, sometimes in stories with an environmental angle, and often when the story calls for superhero antics. 

Fray’s got a very standard Grinch/Captain Hook cartoon villain personality, all cackles and snarls and shaking fists at the meddling kids who ruin his plans everytime, proud of being evil and rotten, but never too rotten to the point he betrays the kid-friendly nature of the stories he’s in, nor too rotten that he can’t do something nice for a change like allow his monsters to celebrate Christmas even if it ruins his bad guy image, or begrudingly do a nice thing for Smudge. 

Although for the most part, the “mainline” comics have dropped the angle of Fray being Smudge’s uncle, the two having a particular dynamic has stayed consistent still. Sometimes, Smudge is portrayed as the only member of the Gang who’s got little to no problem with Fray, even welcoming the change of scenery he brings, although he will stick with his friends, as often he’s the only one who’s got no problem being hit by Fray’s dirt rays. While sometimes Fray singles out destroying Smudge so his claim as the dirtiest being in the universe can never be challenged, he is more often depicted as having a soft spot for Smudge, sometimes considering him a pupil or potential successor to inherit his powers, and plenty of times, Smudge has done just that, although inevitably it never sticks, partially because Fray gets jealous or misses his former life, and partially because Smudge gets bored of supervillainy and just wants to go play with his friends again. 

The dynamic between Smudge and Fray has led to a lot of adventures between the two, and it’s something that’s been played up in the aforementioned manga spin-off, Monica Adventures. In it, the cast’s all been aged up to teenagers, and the adventures they get into respectively have taken much more of a shonen manga edge, much darker and weirder than anything the original kid comics could get away with, although not necessarily to it’s benefit, because I could not begin to describe just how much grimdark nonsense is in those, let’s just call it the Monica’s Gang equivalent of Jorge Joestar in terms of lunacy and leave it at that (although, to be clear, even the original “mainline” comics could get very, very weird themselves). Captain Fray has been a mainstay of said manga from the start, going through a series of redesigns, including one where he turns into a bootleg Sephiroth, and one where he tries rebranding himself into a suit-wearing gangster named “Black Dust”, which nobody really takes seriously. 

It’s also granted Fray a backstory: As a kid, when he’d gone to the basement to read comics, his house was buried in a landslide. Afraid of death, he was met with a milipede claiming to serve “The Serpent” (the in-universe stand in for the devil, maybe, just bear with me here), claiming it would protec him so long as it returned the favor someday. He was afterwards transferred to an orphanage, teased by kids over his lack of hygiene and liking for superheroes and nicknamed “Captain Ugly” (again, his name, Fray is just the English translation), with rumors that his touch granted disease. After the orphanage closes, he’s adopted by a nurse and gains a step-brother in Smudge’s dad. 

Years down the line, and Feioso’s managed to acquire a house and make a decent living. He spends a lot of time with his nephew Smudge, teaching him how to build toys out of garbage (a habit of Smudge in the strips) and fly kites and so on. Until one day, in an update of his original story, he’s cleaning his house packed with dusty comics, and a shelf falls atop of him. The millipede from his childhood appears to recollect the debt:

"Your mission is to pollude the Earth...rot it's soil...change it's atmosphere...darken the skies with smoke...so that the sun's rays may never again hit the surface of this planet!

"No! No, please! I-I don't want to hurt anyone!"

"You think you can refuse? You think you have a choice? Do you think you can escape your destiny? Evil does not tolerate weak servants. If you don't fill your end of the bargain, if you don't pay your debt...it will be transferred to the person you love most."

"Smudge? NO!! H-How do you know about my nephew?"

"We know of all that happens. Our eyes...are everywhere."

"Smudge has nothing to do with this. Leave him alone, please...I-I'll do anything you guys want!"

"So be it...Filthy powers will corrode your soul...This is the day of your rebirth! How would you like to be rebaptized?

"The nickname I was given at the orphanage...it's perfect! Captain Ugly strikes again!"

How “canon” the events of Monica Adventures are is a question best left unspoken, since it ultimately doesn’t change anything about the original strips. But regardless of what made Fray who he is, he would spend the following decades in many, many attempts to complete his mission and defeat Monica’s Gang, to be foiled and stopped time and time again by his nephew and his friends, little more than a dumb, cartoon villain there to be smacked again and again, too dumb to quit and too mean to stop. So he was, and so he will always be.

But something interesting’s happened recently with him. As part of the Graphic MSP initiative that’s allowed creators to reinvent the many, many characters of Monica’s Gang for stand-alone graphic novels, Captain Fray’s received one in the form of Capitão Feio: Identidade, which isn’t so much an origin story as it tells the story of a homeless man with no knowledge of his past or where he acquired the superpowers that force him to be on the constant run from society, and it tells the story of how said man eventually became the infamous supervillain, despite his many attempts to be a superhero. 

The comic and it’s sequel, Tormenta, acted more of a proof of concept to test whether or not a serious reimagining of Captain Fray can work, and considering their reception and the newfound love that the Captain seems to have attained in recent years, I’d say they succedeed pretty damn well. He’s ostracized for his appearence, poverty, smell and bad manners, and there’s hardly anything he can do about it because his powers make him a toxic abomination by default. He spends portions of the book trying to create living beings with his powers, and once he succeeds in creating a Godzilla-esque monster to protect him from the authorities, he ends up having to put the monster down, before getting fed up with constant rejection and promptly announcing that, if he’s just gonna be known as an ugly monster by the people, even after he saves them, he’s gonna make it a point to be Captain Ugly Monster, the most rotten supervillain they’ve ever seen. 

The comic constantly grants upon Frey iconography of several of the biggest icons of comic books, from Batman and Superman to AKIRA, playing up not just Frey’s association with comic books but also the fact that he's been mired in that aesthetic from day one. He wanted to be a hero, he wanted to be like Captain Pitoco, and regardless of continuity, all that he ends up as is becoming a gross caricature of a superhero. And still, Frey owns it. He owns his grossness, his rage, his bitterness at everything that he understands to be the opposite of himself, everything clean and good and decent, and he tries time and time again to tear it down, even if he ultimately can never get far enough to accomplish his goals, or lose all of his humanity in the process.

I’ve remarked once that, to many in some regions of South America, the “traditional” superhero does not hold much appeal, and most of the more popular protagonists and icons tend to be outlaws far away from caped antics. Which is why it’s particularly interesting that, not only is the most famous caped superman of Brazilian comic books a villain, but also that, perhaps unintentionally, Fray has undergone the kind of development that most reocurring cartoon villains never get, and one that seems almost poised to last. In a current zeitgest of villain protagonists, it’s successes and failures, I could very easily see Captain Fray becoming the star of a popular film or series, one that takes a look not just at his personality and role, but also at Brazilian culture’s relationship with superheroes and supervillains. Maybe Fray as an anti-hero, trying to make the best of the horrendous powers he’s burdened with, could work.

So long as it’s not revealed that he likes dirt because his mom got pushed off a cliff by cleaning products, I could see it working very well.

LIJ’s & this year’s Best of the Super Juniors winner Hiromu Takahashi is feuding with Bullet Club’s & current Junior Heavyweight Champion Taiji Ishimori, though Hiromu will have to defeat other Bullet Club member El Phantasmo (ELP) on night 1 of Wrestle Kingdom to get a title shot on night 2. ELP won the Super-J Cup & Hiromu challenged him to prove he deserves the right to challenge the current champ.

LIJ’s & current IWGP double Champion (Heavyweight & Intercontinental) Tetsuya Naito is in a three-sided feud with G1 Climax winner Kota Ibushi & Bullet Club leader Jay White (who won the challenge rights from the G1 off of Ibushi in a special match). Whoever wins between Naito & Ibushi on night 1 of Wrestle Kingdom will face White on night 2 and leave Wrestle Kingdom as double champ (and hopefully break up the belt defense thereafter)

sunni born under the name dae eun-ha to an aspiring artist and a mother suffering from depression. sunni’s parents met in songpa-gu, seoul, south korea, where sunni would later be born, and quickly fell into a whirlwind romance. they would eventually marry a year before sunni’s birth. 

her father’s family had money thanks to his father’s possession of a chain business for restaurants and not long after the birth of sunni, her father was pressured by his wife to get a gig with the help of his own father. he landed in marketing after some training and the promise of an eventual degree. this pretty much drained the life out of him and he stopped painting, deteriorating into a shell of a man. 

( tw mental child abuse ) growing up was difficult for sunni, as her mother blamed her depression on the birth of sunni. she was a stay at home mother who was perpetually disappointed in anything sunni did and was neglectful due to her own dysfunctional marriage, mental illness, and trauma from an abusive childhood. as for her father, he never acted poorly toward her, but he simply wasn’t around. on the off chance that he did speak to sunni, he would spew hateful speech at her about society and the steady destruction of his life force.  ( end tw )

by the time sunni was four, the family was set up to move to los angeles, california, with the prospect of a higher paying job. this ended up being for naught as sunni’s father never really obtained a super successful job, only managing a small pay bump after years of working in los angeles.

childhood was rough for sunni as her parents would fight constantly over their class difference, financial issues, her mother’s general dissatisfaction with how their lives turned out, and her father’s infidelities. as a means of escaping her home troubles, sunni dove straight into the world of cinema. she found it easy to idolize specific actors and viewed a couple of them as her rightful parental figures. 

in school, sunni felt out of place. her parents had spent their money on tutors for a couple years ensuring sunni could skate by with her english, but she had difficulty communicating with others after a long summer with little practice or when it came to more difficult concepts. it wasn’t until junior high that sunni felt 100% confident in her english speaking abilities.

( tw mention of bullying ) sunni was timid and had extremely low confidence, and this caused her to be preyed on at times. the only time sunni was outspoken was in her theater club, where she landed relatively large roles within the production thanks to her passion for acting and persistent practice. as she grew into her adolescence, she finally began to see the flaws in her substitute parental figures. scandal after scandal followed the celebrities she idolized, and sunni couldn’t help but feel betrayed. when sunni was sixteen, she began waitressing to save money for when she was able to move out. this paid off, and she moved into a small studio apartment in tribeca, manhattan, when she was eighteen. when sunni wasn’t working, she was performing in local theater productions. her confidence grew as she avoided exposure to a toxic environment and made a small group of likeminded friends. by the time she turned 21, she began bartending and made enough money to move into a two bedroom with a friend.

sunni’s life as a young adult was relatively uneventful until she was discovered by an agent at a show when she turned 23. in 2004, under the stage name “sunni dae”, she scored an audition for a pg family sitcom named the campbells. it wasn’t mean to be a big project, and after a couple auditions, sunni scored the lead role. 

( tw drug addiction ) not long after its introduction to television, it completely blew up. the show is likened to full house both in popularity and general vibe. though she started as a humble actress, the fame quickly got to sunni. her drug dependency issues began quickly after exposure to various substances at a party.

her drug of choice was alcohol, much like her father, and she began frequently drinking on set. sunni’s ego grew to be massive and she began treating others poorly because of it, unable to understand the woes of others if they didn’t pertain to her own life. ( end tw )

moving out of her two bedroom in 2005, sunni moved from tribeca to the flatiron district and top ( seventeenth ) floor luxury penthouse. this penthouse would later be what sunni calls the best thing she got from the campbells. in 2006, sunni officially changed her name from dae eun-ha to sunni dae. 

( tw depression, drug addiction ) sunni saw her celebrity idols smiling and happy in their fame, and wondered why she didn’t feel that same happiness. in fact, she felt isolated, bitter, and cynical; these feelings fed into her drug addiction. it didn’t help that her friendships began to fall apart thanks to her selfish behaviors and narcissistic tendencies. her parents were unresponsive to her fame, with her mother even expressing disappointment in the fact that she was a part of a show with cheap comedy and simple plot lines. ( end tw )

her career took a turn for the worse in 2007. toward the end of 2006, sunni began a relationship that would later turn into a highly publicized toxic marriage a little over half a year later. the marriage had multiple scandals and each news story plagued sunni’s reputation. this stain would follow her even into her forties, as she was considered a high risk individual to act as the face of a project.

it was also released at one point that sunni allegedly gave drugs to a younger cast member, though it wasn’t publicized which one it was. however, sunni wasn’t the only cast member who had public controversies. by 2011, the cast had racked up so many controversies that the show was cancelled, though it was given a proper ( rushed ) finale. in the same year, sunni got divorced, and thanked her lucky stars for the prenup.

after the campbells, sunni hired an skilled freelance investor to expertly invest her money for her; she would later be thankful for this as the few projects she did take after the campbells completely flopped. a frustrated agent would watch as looper’s inevitable “what happened to sunni dae?” video popped up after years of inactivity, though they did choose to stick by her side, as they had confidence in her potential. 

( tw drug addiction ) others did not see her potential, however, as she was simply “the lady from that old sitcom” in the acting world. to those who knew sunni, she was viewed as a destructive force with drug dependency issues and horrible interpersonal skills. she has had a couple relationships, but nothing serious as sunni’s partners eventually grow to acknowledge her toxic behaviors. ( end tw )

( tw terminal illness ) at the age of thirty-seven, sunni’s father passed away from acute liver failure. sunni thought she would feel something from this inevitability, but no out of place feelings came to her. ( end tw )

( tw assumed depression ) now forty, sunni spends most of her time inebriated and getting into shenanigans with new york locals. occasionally, she’ll still have a scandal that hits the news. she takes part in small projects, such as being the face of a bourbon or starring in commercials, but she’s actively looking for something to revitalize her career and give her life meaning again ( at least, that’s what she thinks ). ( end tw )

When You’re Ready Ch. 09

A/N: It took me ages to finish this chapter because, to me, the plot is kind of boring and it was made just for story progression (and I just couldn’t leave it behind nor reducing it to a paragraph for the next chapter), but I have to admit that with the adjustments that I made yesterday, it’s now pretty decent. Fortunately, next chapter is way more interesting.

Chapter 9. The Less I Know The Better.

Then I heard they slept together

Oh, the less I know the better.

Eleanor made her entrance into Edenbrook with confidence she never felt before. Not even last year, when she was starting the residency program of her dreams at Edenbrook, she had felt this proud of herself. It was her first day both as a second-year resident and as Junior Fellow Member in the Diagnostics Team, directed by her medical hero, Dr. Ethan Ramsey. And well, yes. The person she had feelings for.

But today was also the first day where she would leave all that in the past, to truly be over him. She would face him, talk to him, and make his presence something so usual in her life that after a few weeks he wouldn’t mean anything but a mentor, a colleague, and hopefully, one day, a friend. But not more than that.

She knew it would be difficult. The night before had been hard enough not falling into his spell again. Her lips were thirsty for his kisses, her skin aching for his touch and her mind only wanted to float into the sky of his eyes once more. But she wasn’t blind anymore. She knew it wouldn’t do her any good.

Bryce had opened her eyes. Even if Ethan had the most selfless intentions pulling away from her to not jeopardize her career, he had hurt her consciously. He had ignored her even when she was drowning. And what Bryce had done just in a few weeks? He treated her like the most precious thing in the world. Like a queen. In the way she always wanted to be treated by someone, but she thought it was just stupid ideas romantic love had put in her head. He had listened to her, respected her space, consoled her when she needed it, and even when she didn’t think she needed it. He had made her his priority. The less she could do at that moment was putting him as her priority over anything she might be feeling for Ethan.

And now, there she was, facing her first obstacle, standing outside the Department of Diagnostics. Big glass walls, and a sliding door before her. She took a deep breath and with a smile on her face entered as the doors slid softly to let her in.

The office was quiet and illuminated by the natural lighting of that summer morning. There was the faintest scent of bergamot and mandarin in the air, probably traces of Ethan’s perfume left early in the morning.

She observed the place taking short steps around. A big desk in front of the entry, a circular table on the right side with a big whiteboard behind…

“I’m here, I’m really here”

“Hey, me too.”

…And a couch between the table and the entry, where it was a man reclined, reading a medical journal.

A tanned man with tiny eyes and a grown beard stood up and approached her. He seemed familiar, but the big smile on her face made her think she might be wrong.  

“Um, Zaid? You’re on the diagnostics team?”

“Ah, I take it you’re one of my twin brother’s residents.”—He answered extending his hand to the confused resident.—“Baz Mirani’s the name, immunology’s the game. Game-slash-specialty.”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t even know Zaid had a twin brother.”

After a few moments talking, her mind raced to the smirk Ethan had given her the night before. That’s why he didn’t want to talk about the team members. It wasn’t about bias, he just wanted to keep it a surprise the fact that Zaid Mirani had a super friendly twin brother that made them look the personification of the yin and yang in terms of niceness and well, in term of twins. While Zaid was King of Sarcasm, Baz had no ability to perceive it. While Zaid was grumpy and serious, Baz was amicable and talkative.

Then it was the time to meet the last member of the team, June Hirata. June was a very intense-looking woman with a British accent and a self-assurance that exuded from her pores.

Eleanor felt a little intimidated by the way the attending was scrutinizing her, but she thought it was normal for a neurologist and psychologist to examine a new colleague not only on a physical level but in terms of corporal language too, just like she was doing it.

After a few minutes of chatting with her new colleagues, Ethan appeared through the sliding doors.

“Introductions done? Great. We’ve got work to do”—He said, while the three took a seat in the table.

She couldn’t help but feel a little twist of nervousness inside her stomach, but she tried hard to suppress any emotions she might feel, and just focused on trying to be just as stoic as her mentor always appears. She put her best professional face and started to observe how the team worked and took notes of all the things they were saying.

June and Baz started asking questions to Ethan, who had all the information about the new patient. Eleanor remained silent, witnessing the exchange, trying to absorb all the information possible. She was a bit intimidated because that level of confidence and questioning was really out of her league, but she tried to convince herself that it was a normal response for a first day.

The team divagated through some symptoms, theories, and diseases until June gave the final idea: Cutaneous Kikuchi disease. With that, Ethan asked her to run a biopsy on the patient's rash to confirm the diagnosis.

Once the team was dismissed, both attendings returned to their other duties, leaving Eleanor and Ethan alone.

“After you’re done with our patient, you can see Ines and Zaid for further assignments.”—He said as he was taking a seat by his desk—"You’ll be balancing your work here with your usual resident duties. Now that you’re a second-year, that will include rotations at the free clinic.”

“Yes Dr. Ramsey”— She replied standing up from the chair—“We will always diagnose patients without seeing them?”

“No, but we’re often asked for help by hospitals all over the country, so it’s a good habit to keep our blind diagnosis skills sharp.”

Eleanor was about to reach the door when she stops in her tracks, hesitating. 

“Is everything alright, Eleanor?”

“Actually, could we talk?”

Ethan gazed at her for a few moments before answering.

“About the job or about us?”

“The job. That’s why we are here.”—Eleanor replied with obviousness, but it sounded harsher than she intended. As if it would never cross her mind talking about them.  

His eyes betrayed him for a split of a second as he addressed the coldness in her response, but then he just got up from his desk and moved to the circular table. Eleanor sat beside him a moment later.

“I’m all yours”

She couldn't help but shook her head to herself, not missing the ulterior motives in Ethan’s words for the second time straight.

“I’m just surprised how well and how quickly you worked that out. How are you sure you made the right diagnosis?”

Ethan took his time to explain to Eleanor how the team proceeded, the normal way they work, and gave her some tips to be more involved next time. He assured her that it was normal that the first days she would be feeling lost and ignorant, but once she started to obtain more knowledge from medical journals and research, she would improve her involvement in the team. 

She nodded at every advice, and when he was done, she kept staring at him inquisitively.

“What is it?”

“Your glasses, I’m not used to see you with those on.”

“Oh, yes. I use them when I work on the computer. Now that you’ll come to the office frequently, you’ll see me a lot like this.”

“They make you look smart”—She teased, trying to diffuse the tension she still sensed on Ethan after her cold response.

“You've caught me. The illusion behind my status. Without these, I’m a simpering moron.”

That seemed to relax his shoulders a bit. They both laughed for the first time without the tension of their actual status, where recriminations wouldn’t be involved this time. Her eyes shined, happy for sharing that moment after so much discomfort.

“So, Zaid had a twin brother and you dared to not tell me.”

Ethan chuckled

“I wish I was there when you saw him for the first time. I can only imagine your face.”

“Haha, very funny. You’re such a trickster, Ethan.”

They had lean close to each other without noticing, their knees touching, and his fingers just an inch away from hers.  Her composure stiffed, her will power was once again being challenged.

She couldn’t give in. She had to keep playing the cold Eleanor that didn’t feel a thing about his mentor.

She swallowed hard.

“Well, I should get those test run.”—She informed, taking the notebook in her hand, and then standing up in one swift motion—"Thank you for your advice, Ethan.”

“You’re welcome, Eleanor. Anytime.”—He responded, caught off guard by the abruptness of her reaction. 

Eleanor left the office quickly, sensing how his eyes were following her as she passed through the door. She released the breath that had been holding a few steps away from the office.

She had made it.

The interactions during the day weren’t any different. She ran the tests, informed her discoveries to the team (with the help of her intern, Esme Ortega), and then she made quite an impression with the Governor by diagnosing her son was sick; which granted her an invitation to have dinner with Naveen, Harper, Ethan, the Governor, and her staff that night. She had become the best card Edenbrook had to secure important funds to keep the hospital afloat.

After dropping Harper home after the dinner, Eleanor couldn’t suppress the memories of the last time she was alone with him in that car. The night before he left. The night of their last kiss, of the last time they made love. The last time they consciously and voluntarily stared at each other as lovers.

She was in the exact same place where everything had ended and after two months it still hurt.

Eleanor turned to her left, wondering if Ethan might be thinking the same, but his face was serious, without traces of knitted brows or troubled eyes. The streetlights were framing his features in different shapes as the car moved down the streets. She fixated her eyes in his grown beard, which still felt a bit odd to her, but to some extent, it would be useful as a fresh start. He wasn’t the Ethan she knew and wanted. He was the Ethan that left for two months to start over and be the boss and colleague she needed.

Then she looked away, coming back into her senses. She clenched the silk material of her pine dress in her fists until her knuckles were white

“What. Are. You. Doing?” —She asked herself, pressing her fists into her knees harder at every word she said on her mind. 

The car stopped before the red traffic lights and she felt Ethan was turning to her, staring.

“Don’t look at him. Don’t.”—She ordered in her head, her composure tensing even more.

But after a few moments, she gives up.

Amber connects with the sky and the earth stopped spinning. She was so lost in him that didn’t notice he had brought his right hand to hers, taking it gently.

“We’ll be okay.”

His thumb caressed the knuckle of her middle finger, and that’s what it took to feel a shiver down her spine. He knew what she was thinking.  He was touching her. No. It wasn’t anything. It didn’t mean anything.

She had to look away, but if the first time had been hard, now it would be impossible while he was staring at her. She couldn’t just look away. She wasn’t that brave, at least for now.

From the corner of her eye, she perceived a change in the lights. Her way out.

“It’s… It’s green now”—She said in a tiny voice, his eyes desperate for a moment.

Ethan glanced back to the street, clearing his throat. The air returned to her lungs.

He drove the rest journey in complete silence and he barely looked at her when she got off the car outside her apartment.

“Thanks for the ride Ethan, see you tomorrow”

“Goodnight, Eleanor.”

She had made it again.

The next day, Ethan and Naveen were sharing their remarks about the dinner the night before when they spotted Eleanor, Bryce, and Sienna entering the hospital after their lunch break. Ethan tried to avoid looking at her, not wanting to expose his mixed feelings about her in front of Naveen, but the old had mastered at reading him after so many years.

“Rumors says Dr. Bloom has been doing good these past weeks”—Naveen said as he finds Ethan following her, reluctantly.

“Mmmh?”

“In the company of a surgical resident”

 “You mean with that scalpel jockey?”—He inquired, pointing out the resident who was walking beside Eleanor with a brief motion of his head.

“Yes, precisely”

“I doubt it. They are just friends. Besides, I don’t think she’d like someone like him.”

Naveen didn’t miss the bitterness in his last words.

“What do you mean? Just because he is a surgeon?”

“Yes.  He is arrogant and shallow.”

“Shallow? To me is quite interesting. I’ve heard plenty of praises from Harper. Very promising, bold, intelligent, and ahead of most of his fellow second-year residents, even some third-years.”

“Hmmm, well, the point is I don’t think Bloom would have that bad taste dating a jock like him.”

“Well, they have been seen pretty cozy. I, personally, have seen them while having lunch or going t-.”

“I’ve seen them too.”—Ethan interrupted—"You say cozy, I would say he’s a harasser who likes to touch women, that’s why he might have his hands all over Eleanor. I don’t know why she lets him.”

“Am I sensing jealousy in your tone, my friend?”

“Jealousy? For Christ’s sake Naveen. Why would I be jealous of a scalpel jockey? And there’s nothing between Eleanor and me to have the right to feel jealous.”

Naveen chuckled.

“Whatever you say, my friend. But to me, they make a nice couple, she looks very happy around him.”—The Chief commented with a smirk full of malice, waiting for his reaction.

“Of course she’s happy around him, he acts like a goddamn clown all the time.”

Ethan turned around and left with his head steaming with anger.

He didn’t believe Naveen’s words. He didn't want to believe his words. He was convinced that Bryce and Eleanor were just friends, or maybe they were having a fling as all resident do, but nothing more than that.

But he couldn’t ignore such information much longer and against all his self-control and dignity, he started paying attention to her interactions with the surgical resident. However, at first, he didn’t find anything extraordinary. They would have lunch with her roommates as usual, hang out at Donahue’s like always, and chat through the hallways of the hospital as all colleagues do. Maybe Bryce acted flirtily and a bit handsy with her, but it wasn’t different from what he has always been with her.

The idea of them having a fling made him feel a pit in his stomach, but at the same time, it relieved him that it was just that. She was sleeping with Lahela so she could to move on. And he couldn’t blame her. But a relationship? Love? With that jock? That was beyond his comprehension.

While he was observing him, Ethan wondered what Eleanor would see in him. He had listened, without no other option, that many residents, even nurses, found him very attractive— ‘hot” was the most used word in fact—, while other residents, mostly men, would say he was cocky and arrogant, but Ethan was sure that even when he agreed he had a cocky way to conduct himself all over the hospital—all over the world— he wasn’t arrogant without fundaments.

He indeed was an outstanding surgical resident, he had heard many praises from Harper the last few months, so he just knew his worth and how to use it, and Ethan couldn’t condemn him for that. And if he was honest about it, he also had to be honest about the fact that he was an outstanding doctor too. He was always kind and nice to patients, always on time to prep them for surgeries, and always had the time and patience to explain for the umpteenth time how would be the procedure to any patient or family who would ask to him. And that was actually an important trait. That said, Bryce Lahela wasn’t so despicable after all, but he was a scalpel jockey and probably was sleeping with Eleanor, and that was enough to Ethan to despise him.

A few days later, th attending was accompanying a patient before her heart valve replacement when Bryce came into the room to prepare her for the surgery.

“Good morning Mrs. Montero, how are you today?”—He greeted in a joyful voice and then he nodded to the attending—"Dr. Ramsey”

“Dr. Lahela”

“I’m not gonna lie, I’m scared.”

“You have nothing to be scared for.”—He assured—"Dr. Tanaka is the best doctor you could have to repair anything that involves your heart, so everything will be fine.”

“That means he could fix how broke my heart is after my husband passed away?”

Bryce stared at her with a sad smile.

“I’m afraid not. But with the new valve, you’ll get plenty of years to make new memories and adventures, so you’ll have enjoyed your time to the fullest before you left this earth to be with him."

“I like the sound of that.”

“I’m sure you do. And let me say you that you will have the best resident by his side too, so you'll be in the best hands Edenbrook can provide.—Bryce winked warmly at her.

Ethan suppressed a scoff at his words and stood up from his chair.

“I believe you, my boy.”

And then Bryce grinned. A broad smile with his nose wrinkled paralyzed Ethan in his tracks for a second.

The same grin Eleanor had done that night at Donahue’s and that he had found odd and new in Eleanor, but for some reason, it was familiar.

And it was familiar because he had seen it in Bryce Lahela many times when he prepared patients for surgery. That sincere and knowing smile.

“Dr. Ramsey, thank you so much for your company.”

“You’re welcome, Elena. You’ll be in good hands now. I’ll come to see you when you have your new valve, alright?”

“Alright.”

“Lahela”—He nodded before leaving the room with his head racing incessantly.

He had read a while ago that expressions are contagious between people, even at the moment they are displayed, as a show of empathy and to recognize other people’s feelings. He did know too that couples after some time would imitate their expressions and laughs. But it also could happen with friends, family, and whoever you share a place to live with.

Maybe it was normal and Eleanor not only had expressions from Bryce but also from Sienna, Jackie, and Elijah, as they would see each other  throughout the day and they shared an apartment. 

But there was another option that could explain the fact that Eleanor had acquired a smile from Bryce. But he was so in denial that he didn’t even want to put it into words.

That realization changed everything in Ethan. His focus was now on Eleanor. On study how different she was compared to the months before he left. And in their daily meetings or just in their encounters through hallways of the hospital, he found that she was again the same happy and sweet resident he had met last year, with a calm demeanor, her sunny smile, and firm disposition to help whoever needed it. But he also noticed that this 'start over' between them had been taken seriously by her. She was completely focused on the work and never talked about anything that wasn’t work-related with him, and he never found her looking for his eyes or his touch like she used to, but he could tell she used to grow anxious when she had to be alone with him in the office.

A few days later, Eleanor found Bryce, Rafael, and Ethan on their way to their morning gym session so she joined them in a heartbeat. When she got into the room with her workout clothes on, the three buddies were in the treadmill warming up. She went to the fourth machine and started to run beside Rafael.

“What made you want to workout with us this morning, Ellie?”—He asked

“I always try to find a moment to make any physical activity but I hadn’t had the chance these few last days so I’m taking the chance now. I want to stay healthy,”

“That's a very good reason. The body is a machine. When it goes without use, it rusts.”—Ethan conceded, at the other side of the room, in the first treadmill.

“Don’t think that’s medically accurate, Doc”—Bryce pointed out, running between Ethan and Rafael.

“I know surgeons don’t know how to read a book, but that’s called a ‘metaphor’”—Retorted Ethan. Even if there was a teasing smile on his face, the bitterness of his words was evident to everyone in the room.

“Geez, I’ll tell Jackie to send you an invitation to the hate group for scalpel jockeys, Ramsey. You would love it”—He said, not missing a bit, his confidence not even remotely shaken.

Ethan observed Eleanor, whose smile had fainted with disappointment. After a few seconds, as she observed Bryce was smiling as usual, she quickly shook it off and ignored the attending for the rest of the routine.

Ethan knew there was something there and just the fact that he might confirm the rumors made him angry. At himself and at Naveen. Why he had to tell him? It would have been so much better not to know what Eleanor was doing with her life. It was not his business and he had no right to snoop into her life like he had been doing these few weeks.

The unusual bitter comment the attending had said to Bryce, made Eleanor sense that maybe he was suspecting about her relationship with the surgical resident. The multiples times she caught him observing her in her lunchtime, at Donahue’s, and anywhere he would spot her with Bryce were making sense now.

Maybe there were rumors. Maybe Naveen had told him, he surely knew every gossip in the hospital—not just because he was the Chief, but because he liked hospital gossip—, and of course he would deliver this information to Ethan to wake him up. The old man had always been pretty honest about his support toward Ethan and her.  

Or maybe he just knew. He just figured it out because of her coldness towards him and because even if she and Bryce tried to keep it lowkey, there was always the chance that he could have caught them the times theye couldn’t help but holding hands or kissing when they were close.

Either way, she didn’t care.

At least not as much as she cared the day before he was back, but now she felt relieved that Ethan might have some clues of her situation. She still didn’t want to confirm it, she wanted to know if he was bold enough, if it affected him hard enough to approach her and ask her about her relationship status.

But she knew him. Ethan was never a man of facing emotions or tough conversations. He was a master at avoiding feelings and people and maybe he would wait for something or someone who would confirm the rumors. The problem was if he was emotionally prepared for that moment.

Hey, so...I have another little scenario thought up-one that revolves some interdimensional teleportations, but a scenario all the same:

Let's say, during the Coexistence Route-MV!Goji and many of the Titans he personally knows are transported to Heisei!Goji's universe (by a malfunctioning teleportation device from the humans of the Heiseiverse) . He & everyone else are understandably confused as to where the hell they now are, but then run into Heisei!Goji-who immediately demands what they were doing in his world. Thankfully, Monster X defuses the situation, but before they can try to figure out a way home, other interlopers from alternate timelines/universes arrive (Orga, FW!Gigan, Legion, and a few others) and try to kill them. They obviously fight back, but apparently Heisei!Goji feel under a trance (by a chemical from one of the alien interlopers) that made him hostile to his counterpart (in the meantime, Miki & the humans are trying to see what the ever-loving hell was going on) and attacks him. Their fight ends roughly where I said he would rip out MV!Goji's head in my first post-ask, but Heisei!Goji spared his counterpart while slowly regaining control of himself; then a new opponent appeared-a Ghidorah...Heisei!Grand King Ghidorah to be exact. He starts to soundly beat the living s**t out of Heisei!Goji & came dangerously close to killing him. But the natural Godzilla arrives to help out & they gradually begin to overpower Grand-bur he retaliates hard, eventually regaining the upper hand; MV!Goji still keeps on fighting despite the odds-this here makes Heisei Goji start to respect his counterpart due to his unbreakable willpower, and he decides to repay him by flashing his dorsal plates red and letting out a Red Spiral Ray at MV!Goji's own plates. At first, MV!Goji thought his counterpart betrayed him-but then starts to absorb the power Heisei was giving him, and he unlocks his own ability to use the Spiral Ray-which he then uses to really injure Grand Ghidorah; with their power bringing them back to full strength-both Godzillas work together to slowly tear Grand Ghidorah apart until he was reduced to just one head & shredded wings.

Then, they toss him up into the air-and both ROAR at each other before lancing out their Red Spiral Rays at Grand Ghidorah-acting like two mighty pillars of light: practically vaporizing him into dust when they overwhelm his durability. Once all the alien kaiju are defeated-both Gojis go their separate ways-with Heisei Goji having this to say before going to the sea:

"Until we see each other again....my friend."

The Titans & Kaiju (Heisei!Mothra, Battra, a rebuilt Super MG & Moguera) plus the humans say their farewells as they are teleported back to their universe to rest after that chaotic day....

To prevent any confusion or criticism-this is an Into the Gojiverse scenario I thought up and wanted to share with you. (I hope the No Death rule was only set for August...)

So I skipped to the end because, you gotta admit, at a certain point a certain expectation has been established with these asks, but imagine my surprise when nothing of the terribly fatal misunderstanding has occurred; and instead, we have a positive ending where the only casualty is a villain! Yes!

The No Death Zone is still active, actually; remember, it was stated that the rule would remain in effect until Abraxas and/or In the Footsteps of Shamhat are updated, and was not limited to August. And since neither fic has been updated, the rule is still in effect and will only be lifted after the fics are updated; not before. That being said, NO DEATH ZONE ADDENDUM!

If the party being murked is not a heroic character but an outright villain who deserves a swift and brutal end, it is not in violation and may in fact be considered civic service among the heroic Titans. The death of a heroic character (Godzilla (any), Shin, Junior, the Gojibros, Mothra, Kong, etc), regardless of reasoning, is in violation and will not be entertained.

And so, this scenario is A-OKAY!
