Character Analysis of the Twisted Wonderland Dorm Rooms - Octavinelle

Azul Ashengrotto

Azul actually has a lot of little touches in his room that are very cute. For one thing, his general decor lends itself to the idea that Azul likes the finer things in life. Truthfully, all of the dorm rooms are have shown a lot of attention to the character's actual stylistic preferences in the Guest room and Azul is no exception.

Rather than having a bedside table, Azul has a second safe in his room in addition to the large one he has in his office. This is interesting because, well, that means that there's things that are likely more important to him than the contracts he kept in his vault in his office. I'm certainly curious about what sort of thing Azul would choose to keep in a personal vault - are they especially important contracts to him? Money? Or, perhaps, just other things that are especially special to him. I know the kneejerk reaction for a lot of folks is to be that it's where he stores his coin collection, however...

Azul actually displays his coin collection in a frame! He has them mounted in velvet.

Several of the other characters have featured a feather pen and ink bottles in their room, however a cute touch is that Azul's pen is actually fish bones. This is a cute little insight into what they may use for pens underneath the Coral Sea. Or, perhaps, Azul just has a flare for the dramatic.

Azul has a trunk and several potion bottles on top of his wardrobe. The fact that Azul has these out in the open on top of the trunk likely means that all of the items in the trunk were potion bottles, and then because they were stored up so high, he placed the ones he commonly uses on top, rather than storing them back inside the trunk. Azul is otherwise very organized, so it would make logical sense that if he's not putting these away, they're likely out because he knows he's going to reach for them again.

This is honestly probably my favorite detail in Azul's room because these are terrariums. Azul never mentions having any interest in Terrariums, but Jade does, meaning that these are likely terrariums that Jade made for Azul and gave him as gifts. This is actually really cute, because though the Leech twins joke about leaving Azul as soon as he becomes boring in canon, this shows that Jade at the very least thinks of Azul in his free time when he's not at work or around Azul by obligation, enough to have given him gifts. it's also worth noting that Azul has these displayed, which means that they aren't a gift that's rotting away in a drawer or stowed away somewhere. It's also worth mentioning that the ones that have plants in them are alive, which requires at least some level of attention to them in order to maintain the environment inside. Little things like this show how much the characters actually care about each other.

Jade Leech

Jade is an interesting case because he, like Ruggie and Trey, doesn't actually have much displayed in his room in terms of decoration. That being said, what he does have displayed are his terrariums. Jade being the sole member of the Mountain Lover's club, it seems like he probably spends a lot of his free time out and tending to either his plants in the greenhouse or actually hiking.

This isn't likely directly because of Jade, however it seems like Octavinelle as a whole have coat hangers and hat racks that are themed around octopi, which is possibly the cutest thing I've ever seen.

Jade is notably organized - he has his shoes on his shoe rack, his hat and scarf hung up, and his bed made. This will become more important when you see Floyd's half of the room.

There is also this object. While I'm not certain and it doesn't seem to be mentioned in any of Jade's vignettes outright, I suspect this may be a jewelry box. It's a little hard to tell in comparison to a lot of the items in the student rooms, though, so if anyone has any additional input, please let me know! Neither of the other two from Octavinelle have an object like this one in their rooms.

Fun fact, Jade AND Floyd both have errors in their Night 2 versions of their backgrounds, as they are both missing the hidden Mickey.

Floyd Leech

Oh, Floyd, sweetheart, you live like this?

Jokes aside, Floyd actually has some things of note! While his side of his and Jade's room (canonically they share a room) is messy, he's messy in a different fashion than someone like Leona. Where Leona doesn't hang his clothes - Floyd does. Or at the very least, it seems like someone does it for him. (Given the haphazard hanging of his jacket, though, I would guess that he probably does it himself.) What does that tell us? Well, more than likely, Floyd gets small bursts of motivation to clean certain aspects of his room, and then grows bored and gives them up. To be quite honest, for those who know of or experience it, Floyd's organization style reminds me a lot of how ADHD folks tend to struggle with forming sustainable cleaning habits, as it's often easier to put something down rather than to put it away.

Snacks, literally everywhere. Floyd has snacks on his desk as well as on the shelf above his bed. It would seem that Floyd has a serious sweet-tooth, given the amount of sweets that we see in his room.

For the life of me, I could not tell you if this is a trash bin or not, but if it is, it looks like whatever Floyd put in there has teeth marks on it.

Another thing of note about Floyd's room, while there's a lot of things that are strewn around, there's not actually all that much trash around. He has a single empty container on his desk, but otherwise his floors are clean, and it seems like things that need to end up disposed are. Again, whether or not that's Jade intervening because they share a room, it's hard to say.

As was mentioned in Jade's section, both Floyd and Jade's Night 2 versions of their backgrounds are missing the hidden Mickey. Floyd's background has an additional error however!

Floyd's box of cookies is actually missing the box in his Night 2 artwork. If I had to guess, since I have experience with digital art, more than likely, the layer containing these details was accidentally deleted when making the edits for the Night 2 cards, resulting in these things disappearing when the background were published. It's a minor error, all things considered, and gave me a little giggle because now it just looks like Floyd has haunted cookies floating in his room.

Addendum

Excellent catch by @twistedminutia that Azul's fish bone pen is likely in reference to the pen Ariel signs her contract with in the original movie! (To be quite honest, and I know this is ironic given that this blog has such a heavy octavinelle theming, but the little mermaid was my least favorite Disney movie growing up, so I never would have caught this myself!)

12. Least favorite character of each dorm

Heartslabyul: Ace. I don't dislike him but he's the one I'm the least interested in for now. Just... he hasn't had his own character arc, you know?

Savanaclaw: Jack. He’s a good boy and a tsundere but other than that I just... don't really care about him :') Still like him tho

Octavinelle: What? A least fav? Nah, doesn't exist.

Scarabia: Kalim, but I LOVE him. It's just that I'm enamored with Jamil and I think it's pretty obvious with my art.

Pomefiore: Epel. Once more, I like him, but, you know, Rook and Vil are top tier.

Ignihyde: Ortho, but like with Pomefiore it's because Idia is top tier.

Diasomnia: Seb- no kidding, for once I won't chose a first year. I actually genuinely don't care about Malleus, I never understood the hype about him or why he seems to be the most popular character.

(Yes the first year are the ones I care the least about because they don't have enough history compared to other characters.)

13. Favorite NRC staff member

Crowley. He's useless and I love him for it. He's perfect you hear me!! And I really don't want for him to actually be a super genius mastermind who orchestrated everything, I just want him to remain a lame incompetent arse until the very end.

19. Favorite event

I have missed a lot of events because of low storage on my previous phones but of the ones I've played or watched on YouTube... I really liked Cloudcalling and GloMas. I also like Firelit Sky and Fairy Gala (p1).

Heartslabyul - Disneyland Paris

it's been like 6 years but I remember there being a lot of topiary I thought was neat? otherwise this is really just based on vibes. the aesthetic for cater. the food for trey and riddle. ace and deuce could even argue about the castle being smaller than the disneyland one. you get it

Savanaclaw - Knott's Berry Farm

if anyone makes a wordplay joke I'll kill you. when I was there, it was incredibly empty and half the place was under repair so all we did was eat. there's a lot of food. and when I went it was decently priced. actually this one is just for Ruggie

Octavinelle - Disneyworld

being so real rn I haven't been to disneyworld since I was like. 3. but I know they have that animal kingdom thing and I think Jade would like that a lot. Azul would get a kick out of epcot. Floyd would shoplift from all the souvenir stores. and get away with it too

if I had been to legoland I would send them there, though, because I feel like floyd would really like that. he would shoplift from there too

Scarabia - Disneyland

at least Kalim could afford it with these new prices smh. I think he would like the thrill rides the most. he takes pictures with all the cast members. like, all of them. even the guy sweeping up trash on main street. Jamil doesn't really seem like a ride guy to me, but he strikes me as the sort of man to be really interested in theme park lore so he'd enjoy himself anyway

Pomefiore - Efteling

saving the best park for the best dorm <3 I've been to the efteling most recently out of all of these and it's the only theme park that doesn't make me feel like I'm dying. very autism friendly. there are thrill rides (for epel) and a wooded fairytale-themed walking portion (for rook) (also my favorite part). I also felt that there were more/better food choices, since I was vegan when I last went and still got to eat with everyone else. vil would appreciate that

I remember liking the set tours and they do have a good amount of thrill rides (for lilia). silver can fall asleep in the dreamworks theater because it's air conditioned and dark. malleus can get really judgy about the evil wizard thing's architecture. that would be great. sebek gives me minion facebook mom vibes sometimes so I think he'd enjoy the minion thing they have there. I would also go during halloween cause I think they would get a kick out of the classic movie monsters. especially lilia

Sapphire Lake Dorm’s opinions of The TWST Cannon Cast.

Hello beautiful readers. My name is Kuragari and today I will be doing the Sapphire Lake Dorm’s opinions for the cannon Cast of TWST. Unfortunately Tsukii is the only who is available since Jeanne and Night is at their family vacations. First things first is the dorms of NRC.

Tsukii: Heartslabyul, The dorm of the Queen of the Hearts. I never expect to get along with the dorm members and yet I did. I like the rose garden and the theme. It’s the rules I have a bit of difficult to understand the rules. Too many rules is too much for the mind. But the unbirthday parties is…special to the say the least.

Tsukii: Savanclaw. The Dormitory of beast men, I had a fight with the few beast men there and won each time. The roughness and rebellious like vibe from Savanclaw will certainly fit a few of my dorm members. But, I personally never liked how they would do anything to beat Diasomnia. They are competitive that I admire.

Tsukii: Octavinelle? I..I respectfully do not know how to feel about that dorm. I always avoid that dorm for some unknown reason. It is not like Octavinelle is bad! I-It just..the shadiness of that dorm just..rubs me the wrong way. I only go there for a snack, a drink or a show. I do not go to that dorm for nothing else. Maybe someone will change my mind about that dorm. Let us wait and see.

Tsukii: Now Scarabia is one of my favorite dorms to visit. I love the night sky of the dorm, the environment, the music, the cooking. Oh I can only say so much. However, it brings me so much nostalgia that it took me all my strength to not cry. Sorry, Scarabia is like..my second home. The parties at Scarabia are entertaining. Boisterous even. What? Can this girl have some fun too?

Tsukii: I honestly think that Pomefiore is a dorm version of my fashion major classes. The dorm itself is unique too, the makeup, the dorm uniforms. It is beautiful. Although, there are some dorm members I avoid to keep my distance. I personally get along with some of Pomefiore members. Other than that, I had nothing else to say about the dorm of the Evil Queen.

Tsukii: Ignihyde is the place for introverts like me. It is the third favorite dorm for me to visit. Mainly because I am a tech freak and I get along with Ortho and Idia. The dorm members avoid me which i never know why. But what I do know..they are looking for information about me..of my PAST. I do not allow it. Other than the nosy dorm members, a place for me to get away from the outside before my social battery is completely drained.

Tsukii: Diasomnia. Well that is my first favorite dorm of visit. It is terrifying for others to go, right? It is like Sapphire Lake Dorm but my dorm is more isolated than Diasomnia. I love seeing Sebek and Silver running, looking for Mallues and the chaos that the dorms have. Haha! Oh can that dorm get more interesting?

Tsukii: Is that the old abandoned dorm that has not been used in years? Ah, yes. I heard that Ramshackle has new residents. To see the once abandoned dorm at its once dormant glory. It has peaked my interest for some time now. The magicless perfect. That person is an enigma like me, Night, Dawn and Jeanne. Hmm. I wonder how Yuuken will feel about hearing shocking news. Oh, Gomen. It is surprising to see another person from another world..enter this place of Twisted Wonderland.

My mind immediately goes to two dorms that I would hate to be in: Ignihyde and Octavinelle

Ignihyde: First off I would not respect Idia at all tbh. I'm loud, social and while I'm decent with technology I'm not good enough to say it's my specialty. The aesthetic isn't my favorite. On my disrespect for Idia I respect people I can look up to (aka yes I know why he is the way he is but I won't look up to him as a superior)

Octavinelle: Better vibes, hate the dorm members. While I doubt myself, I know I'm smart (with my lowest grade being 98% with about a month left in classes). I've dealt with many a legal paper so I wouldn't fall for Azul's UM. Wouldn't trust Jade as far as I can throw him and am too much of a joke to take Floyd seriously (flashback to a pissed off ex threatening to strangle me and my only response was "Kinky~" )

For dorms I can see myself in:

Savanaclaw: Aka the one I get in tests a lot. I was a varsity/state ranked athlete back in highschool, love to work out(can/have jokingly bench pressed my friend), did club soccer for 12 years (and still do soccer). But given a sport I will go all out until I physically cannot play anymore (one time during a game my mother came to pick me up when I had a mess of mud and blood on my uniform while smiling because it was fun. Be careful around goal posts). I was raised in sports culture so I know how to deal with all the dude bros and I will "metaphorically" bite back.

Pomefiore: Did modeling as a kid, my mother is a hair stylist and my sister is a cosmetologist. I have a 9 step morning skin routine and a 11 step night skincare routine (not counting any face mask). Have silk sheets for my skin and hair care, constant hair treatments and expensive hair products (my moms client literally gave me a around $200 conditioner [damn rich people]). I also have my own style and love dressing up.

Dorms I can possibly see myself in:

Heartslabyul: My kinship with Riddle of being raised by a narcissist 🤣 I have a good memory and am detail oriented so I'd remember the rules (and am good with remembering bs rules normally). Would totally think of some loopholes in the rules.

Diasomnia: Obviously can't say I'd for sure have strong magic (because magic isn't real irl) but I'd go off of loyalty. Malleus is one I can actually respect, I would love to talk to Sebek (because I like seeing people excited about things/look at the fandom, a ton of y'all are Sebek but towards the other boys). My love of small animals being around Silver and my similarity to Lilia.

Scarabia: The better smart dorm. I like the people in this dorm so much more than the octo trio. Cunning and careful planning are things I'm used to. I'm great with written tests too.

Mallory Robinett's Relationships

Heartslabyul

Riddle Rosehearts: Mallory has a strange fascination with Riddle. She was a Disney gal when on Earth, Alice in Wonderland being her favorite movie they made. She kinda hated the Queen of Hearts since she was all high and mighty, but when she saw Riddle...all she thought was "omg smol tsun tsun". After his overblot, she held him close and allowed him to hide his tears. Riddle finds her obsession fascination with him a bit odd, but he's seen weirder in his own dorm, so he just lets her do her thing and is her friend nonetheless.

Trey Clover: "Big brother Trey". That's pretty much it. One time, Mallory told Trey about chocolate-hazelnut wafers and how she loved them back on Earth, so he made them for her after. She was delighted and it's become tradition for them since. He's basically her big bro. It's pretty wholesome.

Cater Diamond: Mallory finds Cater a bit annoying, she won't lie. She just finds the whole "influencer" thing a bit odd. Other than that, she doesn't entirely mind Cater. They don't talk all too often however, so they don't know each other too well. Mallory hopes to have that change before they graduate or before she goes home.

Ace Trappola: If these two are seen together, you may wanna run. Mallory and Ace are pretty much inseparable after finally getting along during Heartslabyul's episode. Mallory will admit, she finds Ace attractive, and she's said it to him before on a couple occasions. She may feel more than just that, but she doesn't like love and stuff like that, so she tries to ignore her rapidly beating heart whenever she's with Ace...

Deuce Spade: Deuce is one of the few people who sees Mallory's sweet side. She always makes sure he stays in line and if he starts to go all delinquent-mode, she pulls a "pull it together major". Of course, that's only if he starts to go overboard. Mallory knows what it's like to feel like a disappointment to a parent, so she reassures Deuce that it'll get better if he's truly wanting to be better.

Thorn Valley: Oh, these two despise each other. The only thing they can agree on is that they dislike Leona and that's pretty much it. Some people at NRC like to say they're like an old married couple(mainly Cater) and they always have to clarify that they hate each other. They can tolerate each other during events like Fairy Gala and such, but even then, they'll still bicker.

Savanaclaw

Leona Kingscholar: Another person Mallory hates! She finds Leona's laziness a menace, while he gets a kick out of annoying her. Their relationship is similar to how Vil and Leona act to put it bluntly. They do have similar humor though, so it's strange whenever someone else sees them laughing together.

Ruggie Bucchi: One time Ruggie stole her sandwich and she makes sure he'll never live it down. Knowing he had a rough time back in the Afterglow Savana however, she tones it down by a lot. She knows he's a gremlin, but she also knows that he's a human like anyone else and tries to treat him with some kind of kindness and respect. They don't talk all too often, but they've talked enough to be considered a bit more than acquaintances.

Jack Howl: He gives her piggyback rides more often than you would think, but it's always cause she asks if he can. He can't say no to her face, he doesn't know why, so he goes along with it. He finds her more as his sister than anything, Mallory finding the feeling mutual. She loves to hang out with him and Epel, but the one time that Jack offered her to come with him and Vil to jog, she backed up ten feet and said no.

Octavinelle

Azul Ashengrotto: Mallory was infuriated when Azul took Ramshackle away from her and Grim for those couple days. She was doing that thing where she was telling Adeuce and Jack to "hold her (nonexistent) earrings" or to "hold her back". After finding out his backstory however, she softened, even if only by a bit. Her relationship with him got better after Scarabia's incident.

Jade Leech: Mallory doesn't like Jade, but she doesn't hate him either. He's probably the most tolerable person in Octavinelle to her. She was also close to slapping Jade once. She doesn't interact with him too often, so she can only go off of how he was during Octavinelle and Scarabia's episode.

Floyd Leech: Floyd is the vain of Mallory's existence. During the Octavinelle episode, she almost slapped him into oblivion. She honestly can't tell who she hates more, Thorn, Leona, or Floyd. He's constantly trying to "squeeze" her like he does with everyone else and she can't stand it. She doesn't like to talk to him and tries to avoid him when she can.

Marius Seymour: Mallory doesn't entirely mind Marius. She kinda finds his sadistic-ish personality a bit annoying, but she's learned that it's a reoccuring thing in Octavinelle. Marius' sadism isn't as bad as the other three. She lowkey ships him with Ashe and isn't shy about it. She finds him kinda fun to be around and likes to eat with him at lunch from time to time.

Scarabia

Kalim Al-Asim: The first time she talked to him, she knew that he was so precious and was wondering if he belonged at RSA. He's also one of the few people to see Mallory's sweet side. She can't bring herself to be sarcastic with him, so she acts almost entirely different with him. It basically goes as such...

Everyone else: Wow...

Mallory: What?

Everyone else: You're just so nice to him...

Mallory: Oh, I'm sorry, do you want me to yell?!

Everyone else: No-!

Jamil Viper: Mallory's...indifferent to Jamil. She almost slapped him after his overblot, yes, but she doesn't entirely hate him. She knows he was in Kalim's shadow for so long, so she doesn't have too much against him. She still isn't happy with how he treated and hypnotized Kalim, but she tries to let it go as much as her heart and brain will let her. She doesn't talk to him much after his overblot, but if she needs to talk to him, she won't throw a tantrum.

Pomefiore

Vil Schoenheit: At first, Mallory thought that she'd hate Pomefiore, especially Vil. But...she saw and heard how much effort it took for Vil to get to where he is now, so she has a lot of respect for him. For Ghost Marriage, he chose an outfit for her so that she fit the theme of the event and she actually liked his outfit choices. It was a dress, which she tends to hate, but she genuinely enjoyed wearing it. She may not talk to him a whole lot, but she respects him greatly. After his overblot, that respect and empathy went up even more.

Rook Hunt: Mallory, like many others at NRC, finds Rook weird and creepy. She already found the fact that he has photos on his walls creepy, but then he lists off her, ADeuce and Grim's height, class, and seat number. She tries to avoid him at all costs, similar to Floyd. She hates how he randomly pops up behind her and the others too.

Epel Felmier: Mallory loves Epel! She likes to hang out with him, Jack, and Deuce. She's trying to learn how to carve apples, though she's gained many cuts on her fingers because of it, the cuts always bandaged up by Epel. Since she's taller than him, she likes to use him as an arm-rest from time to time, much to Epel's demise. All in all, she adores him and wishes the best for him.

Ashe Aspen: Mallory finds Ashe fun, but they don't talk as often as she'd like. He's really tall, so she likes when he gives her piggyback rides too. She's witnessed his truly scary side, and she's sworn to never make him mad since. Similar to Ruggie, they may not talk much, but they've talked enough to be considered a bit more than acquaintances.

Ignihyde

Idia Shroud: Best of friends. Specifically BGFFs, "Best Gamer Friends Forever". Idia introduced Mallory to a bunch of games in Twisted Wonderland and she couldn't put them down. They talk whenever they can and everyone is shocked when Mallory says she's Idia's friend. She likes his hair a lot too.

Ortho Shroud: Mallory finds Ortho like the younger sibling she never had but always wanted. She always makes sure he's ok, telling him that he can come to her if he ever needs to talk. She also thought that he did amazing during the VCD Auditions.

Diasomnia

Malleus Draconia: She knows for a fact that if she was still her same seven year old self, she'd want him to give her a piggyback ride so she could hold his horns. Mallory finds his innocent outlook on some things adorable, but more in a sense of "wow he's pure" rather than romantically. For the most part though, their relationship is the same as it's portrayed in the game.

Lilia Vanrouge: They have a relationship like Mallory does with Riddle, just flip it around. Lilia seems to be fascinated by her, seeing as she's a human from another world while he's a fae who's lived for hundreds of years. She may be taller than him, but he always floats above the ground so he's at least her height. She finds him fun to hang with, so she's fine with his strange fascination.

Sebek Zigvolt: She finds him too loud, but she appreciates his devotion to Malleus. Sometimes it concerns her, but other than that, she respects it. They don't talk often, but she kinda wants that to change soon. Other than that, he's the member she's the least close to.

Silver: They're cuddling buddies and don't even know it. Mallory spends a lot of time in Diasomnia, so naturally she is close with the dorm's members. She likes to crash in Silver's room at times, so that's how they became secret cuddle buddies.

Other

Dire Crowley: Mallory finds it kinda fun to toy with Crowley, but found it incredibly annoying when he left to go on vacation during Scarabia's episode. Although it's something she'd never admit, Mallory sees Crowley as that fun and strange father she never got to have.

Divius Crewel: She hates him with a lot of her being. She hates how he treats them all like dogs. However, when there are those few times he's nice to her and makes sure she doesn't make an explosion in Alchemy, she's thankful.

Mozus Trein: She finds his class pretty boring, but she loves playing with his cat. She does appreciate when Trein gives her extra help if she doesn't understand something revolving around Twisted Wonderland's history.

Ashton Vargas: Mallory is a bit indifferent to Vargas. While he can be nice to her, she finds him a bit odd. She does however appreciate how Vargas makes sure she takes care of her physical and mental health.

Libi Koko: Libi and Mallory are pretty much the best of friends. Since Libi is one of the few females in NRC with Mallory, it feels nice that she can talk to someone who understands some issues they may have that the guys don't. They have a lot of inside jokes and, again, Libi is one of the few poeple who have seen Mallory's sweet side.

Che'nya: Prank duo, right here. If they're together, it's like an Ace and Mallory situation, but worse. Since they go to different schools, they can't talk often, but they managed to exchange numbers who knows when just a bit after the Heartslabyul incident. Sometimes, Che'nya likes to give Mallory hugs, but he's always invisible and know one except Mallory can tell he's there. He likes to tease Mallory a bit, much to her slight demise, so she's started to do the same. It's an endless cycle now.

Neige LeBlanche: Mallory already adored Neige the first time she met him. Her first thought was "he's baby. I must protect". They may not talk often, due to being in different schools, but they exchanged numbers to ensure that they still had the ability to talk. Neige is in a situation similar to Kalim in terms of how sweet Mallory is.
