No crisis can determine India’s future
Tumblr media
Dear friends,
A year ago, a golden chapter was added to the history of Indian democracy. After decades, the people of the country gave a second opportunity to a government elected with a full majority. You have played a major role in writing this chapter. Today presents an opportunity for me to bow to you and honour you for your commitment to India and Indian democracy.
Had the situation been normal, I would have been blessed to be in your midst. However, the circumstances brought about by the global coronavirus pandemic have led me to write this letter and seek your blessings. In the past one year, your affection, blessings and active participation have given me fresh energy and inspiration. During this period, you have shown to the world democracy’s collective strength, which has become an example before the entire world.
In the year 2014, the people voted for a big change; you voted to change the policy and system (niti & reeti). In those five years, the country saw extricating itself from the quagmire of inertia and corruption. In those five years, the country inspired by Antyodaya has seen the change in governance in easing the lives of the poor.
In that tenure, on the one hand, the country’s prestige before the world grew, and on the other, we raised the dignity of the poor by opening their bank accounts, making available free cooking gas and electricity connection for them; and by building homes and toilets for them. In that tenure, whereas there were surgical and air strikes, there were also works for one-rank-one-pension, one-nation-one-tax GST and fulfillment of decades’ old demands involving procurement of crops under MSP for farmers. That tenure was dedicated to meeting several needs of the country.
In 2019, your blessings meant dreaming big for the country, for high hopes and for meeting the aspirations. The decisions taken in the last one year are the reflections of those big dreams. The people’s power fuelled by the common man is effulgently shining as the nation’s strength. In the past one year, the country had many dreams, many resolves as it also continuously took several steps towards realizing those goals.
In this historic journey, each community, each section and each individual has played one’s part responsibly. ‘Sabka sath, sabka vikas’ with this mantra, the country is forging ahead in all directions — social, economic, global or internal.
in the last one year, some important decisions have been in discussion, and that is why it is natural to for these achievements to linger on in our memory. Whether it was the topic of Article 370 for national unity and integrity, or the happy outcome of age-old conflict over the Ram temple construction, or the factor disrupting the modern social system, the ‘triple talaq’ or the symbol of India’s compassion, the citizenship law – all these achievements you remember.
Amid these decisions which came in quick succession, there are many other decisions and changes that have given new momentum to India’s development journey, have given us new objectives as we have strived to fulfill many expectations of the people. The constitution of the post of Chief of Defence Staff has led to increased coordination among armed forces. At the same time, India has accelerated its preparations for Mission Gaganyaan.
In this period, our priority has been to empower the poor, farmers, women and the youth.
Today, each farmer has been covered under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi. In the last one year, under this scheme, over Rs 72,000 crore have been deposited in the bank accounts of more 9.5 crore farmers.
To make available piped drinking water for the country’s over 15 crore rural population, the ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ has been initiated.
To ensure better health care for our more than 50 crore cattle, a massive campaign for livestock vaccination is under way.
For the first time in the nation’s history, the government has decided to offer the facility of Rs 3,000 monthly pension for farmers, farm labourers, small shopkeepers and workers belonging to the unorganized sector after the age of 60 years.
A separate department has been formed to strengthen ‘blue economy’ and increase the facilities for fishermen. Similarly, it has been decided to constitute National Traders Board to timely resolve issues concerning business enterprises. About 7 crore sisters associated with self-help groups have been given more financial assistance. Recently, the loan amount available without guarantee for self-help groups has been doubled to Rs 20 lakh from Rs 10 lakh.
Keeping the education of tribals’ children in mind, a campaign is under way to build more than 450 Eklavya Model Residential Schools.
The government has also worked expeditiously towards making better laws linked with common man’s welfare. Our Parliament has broken decades’ old record in conducting legislative business. That’s why several laws – the Consumer Protection Act, amendment to Chit fund law, and laws concerning more security for women and children – have been quickly enacted.
The government policies have led to bridging the gulf between the urban and rural lives. For the first time, the internet users in rural areas have outnumbered the urban counterparts by 10 per cent.
The list of historic works and decisions is very long. It is not possible to elaborate on all of them in this letter. But I would surely say that in the last one year, each day round the clock, the government has worked with full awareness, sensitivity, and has taken decisions.
just when we were moving quickly towards realizing our country’s aspirations, the corona pandemic surrounded India too.
On the one hand, there are countries with massive economies and most modern health services, and on the other, there is India with its huge population and so many challenges. Many people had expressed their apprehensions that when corona would attack India, the country itself would become a trouble for the world. Today, all countrymen have changed the way they look at India. You have proved that your collective capability and capacity are unprecedented in comparison with other more resourceful and prosperous countries.
You have shown that India alone holds the guarantee for a greater and better India – whether it was collective clapping or thali-beating or lighting the lamps, whether it was honouring of corona warriors by the armed forces, or following the Janata curfew or following the lockdown rules with sincerity.
In this crisis, no one can claim that nobody has been put to trouble or inconvenience. Our workers, migrant brother and sister labourers, those working in small industries, cart pushers and vendors, our shopkeeper brothers and sisters and those having small businesses have suffered immensely. We all are working together in an attempt to sort out their problems.
But we have to be careful that these inconveniences should not transform into a crisis of life. For that, each Indian has to follow all directives. We have to move forward with the same patience and courage that we shown so far. This is the reason why the situation in India has so far been manageable in comparison with other countries.
This battle will stretch on, but we are on way to victory and, to be victorious is our common resolve.
We can draw inspiration from those people who recently faced the Cyclone Amphan boldly. They worked hard to reduce the damage caused by the cyclone.
under the given circumstances, there have been discussions as to how economies of India along with other nations will emerge out of the crisis. At the same time, there is this belief that the way India has surprised the world in facing coronavirus with its unity, the country can present the same example in the economic field — 130 crore Indians can not only surprise the world but can also inspire it.
Today, the time demands that we must stand on our feet, and we will have to move on our own strength. And for this, there is only one path: a self-reliant India (atmanirbhar Bharat). The recent economic package of Rs 20 lakh crore is a big step towards ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ campaign. This campaign will usher in a new trend of opportunities for every countryman – our farmers, workers and labourers, medium enterprises and the youth associated with startups. India will reduce its dependence on imports with the sweat of its citizens, with their hard work and skills, thus becoming self-dependent.
you have continued to bless me with your affection in the past six years. The country has moved ahead with unprecedented pace with historic decisions and development. But I know there is so much left to be done. The country has many challenges and problems before it. I am making all efforts day and night. I may have some deficiency, but the country does not have any. That is why I place more confidence in you, in your strength and in your capacity. You, your support and your blessings are the energy behind my resolve.
The global pandemic has brought about a crisis situation, but at the same time, for us Indians, this is also the time for determination. We have to remember that no calamity, no crisis can determine the present or future of 130 crore Indians. We will decide our present and, the future too.
We will move ahead, we will race ahead to progress and we will be victorious. It is said in our country: “Kritam me dakshine haste, jayo me savya ahita-h” – meaning, in one hand we carry our deeds and duties and in the other, sure success.
I bow before you yet again with a wish for our country’s success forever. Best wishes for you and your family. Be healthy, be safe. Be aware and be conscious.
Your Pradhan Sevak

As a result of most were constructed from scratch or at the very least rebuilt because the arrival of the Portuguese, these are trendy in look in comparison with India’s many temples. However, don’t let unfair comparisons detract from the distinction of an inland journey away from the well-known shoreline. The main goal to go to Ponda taluka is to go to one of many spice plantations that wait on the different aspect of a winding drive, welcoming you with lavish lunches and excursions of their grounds. The capital of Ponda taluka is the city of Ponda. SAFA SHAHOURI MASJID
Tumblr media
SAFA SHAHOURI MASJID in Goa One of the oldest mosques in Goa, the Safa Shahouri Masjid, on the outskirts of Ponda. In 1560, Ali Adil Shah constructed it, built-in lines with the mosques at Bijapur, surrounded with fountain and garden, a high built quality. The buildings had been broken after which left to decay when the Portuguese moved into the realm. At present little stays of its former grandeur, though the Archaeological Survey of India has undertaken restricted restoration. The mosque, a tiny white constructing set on a stone platform effectively again from the street, is often saved locked. In entrance of it's a historic water tank, constructed of laterite; unusually, the tank is on the south aspect of the constructing, somewhat than to the east in entrance of the doorway. Other than the tiny mosque and the dilapidated tank, there are only some damaged pillars and random blocks of stone to mark the extent of the previous buildings. Sleeping & Consuming On condition that Ponda is a mere 30 km from Panaji and has little to supply apart from just a few first-rate eating places and logistical comfort to the sights of curiosity, few travellers decide to remain herein for a single day only. Farmagudi Hill Retreat (2335122, 2335037; dm Rs 100, r with/without AC Rs 650/500, r deluxe Rs 1050;a) Farmagudi is Ponda’s GTDC residency and is by far the most effective place to remain in Ponda. Rooms are cottage fashion and fairly personal, which makes a pleasant change from the concrete blocks that comprise most GTDC department. There are 39 rooms and a few dorm beds, although solo feminine travellers are unlikely to be allowed to make use of one. There's additionally an Indian-and-Chinese language restaurant on website. Lodge Prakash Heritage (2317794, 2317796; Tremendous Market Complicated; d with/without AC Rs 500/450, ste Rs 900; a) This respectable choice is extra centrally positioned within the busy coronary heart of Ponda. Rooms are plain however moderately sized and have scorching water. If you'd like more room, ask for a particular fee on the suite. Café Bhonsee (2318725; thalis around Rs 150) This all-vegetarian restaurant is a spotlight of Ponda and takes quite a lot of satisfaction in the way in which it appears to be like and the meals it serves. The setting is clear and heat, and there's something within the air that claims the native households look ahead to coming right here. It’s simply throughout the street from Lodge Prakash Heritage. 112 Central Goa Sumudra Pub Tel: 2316779; h11am-3pm & 7- 11pm) that is one other place that refreshingly doesn’t have vacationers in thoughts. It has a spacious and ethereal consuming space above the road and boasts seafood specials plus a prawn curry (round Rs 50). Getting There & Away Buses to Ponda (Rs 15) go away from the Kadamba station in Panaji. There are three main locations to get off the bus when arriving in Ponda. The primary (and doubtless best) is the roundabout simply outdoors the Farmagudi Hill Retreat. The others are the Kadamba bus station, which is impractical provided that it’s both an uphill stroll and an autorickshaw experience to the city, and the busier bus ceases in the midst of the city. What Modi is doing Manmohan couldn’t have done
Sometime when the the capital city was done with rioting, when the ruling party was plotting the fall of a state govt, when the country was busy wondering if the junior finance minister actually said goli maaro, an Opposition leader warned the novel coronavirus was heading India’s way and it wasn’t getting the respect it deserved.
That Opposition leader, you may find it hard to believe, was the Pappu of Indian politics - Rahul Gandhi. Now his fans are asking what if Rahul Gandhi was the PM and not Narendra Modi. Would India have been better prepared?
That is an unfair question to ask. We know what Modi’s performance is like but we don’t have any work by Rahul Gandhi that could be compared with Modi’s. When he could have become a minister and honed his skills under the best tutor he could possibly get, he refused. Instead he chose to wield the remote control to the govt even as he let his advisors remote control him.
Now one can argue, as I often do, it is better to have someone who does nothing than have someone who does demonetisation.
The valid comparison one can make though is between Manmohan Singh and Narendra Modi.
What if Manmohan was PM
We can safely assume Manmohan’s govt would have been prepared for the coronavirus crisis. We can expect that for many reasons. He has done it many times in the past, so he can sniff trouble when it comes. We would have had enough PPE kits, we would have mass produced ventilators, etc, etc.
Yes, there would be media plants on how Sonia Gandhi put her foot down, Rahul Gandhi put his best foot forward, how Digvijaya had his feet on the ground, while the sardar was always on the wrong foot.
In all that chaos, Manmohan would have ensured order, and seek no credit.
But we would still be unhappy. We Indians are like that. How many Indian victories we didn’t savour because Sachin Tendulkar scored a century and the match got over with a few overs to spare. Instead what we ask is why didn’t Tendulkar win that match we lost.
Now think of the present day. We didn’t plan for the novel coronavirus and we are where we are now. In such a situation Narendra Modi is the best PM India can have.
No other PM could have announced a lockdown at 4 hours’ notice.
No other PM could have asked citizens to bang their thalis and belans and katoris and made them do exactly that.
No other PM could have asked citizens to light lamps and candles and mobile flashlights and received total obedience.
In fact they did more than what Modi asked for. Like the old Hindi dialogue goes, Modi ne dil manga, hum jaan dene ko taiyaar hai.
No other PM could have made the Amit Shahs, the Ajit Dovals, the Rajnath Singhs of his govt fall in line so meekly. No hunt for headlines, no hunt for credit, it is all reserved for the Saheb.
No other PM will come out of the crisis unscathed and blemishless like Modi is going to do. The man is going to blame every failure on coronavirus - the failing economy, the social strife over citizenship law, the Kashmir distrust, the badly made dhoklas you get in Aggarwal’s mithai shop. You name it, it was all because of corona. And the countrymen believe it.
Some time last week, a message started spreading that we all have to stand in the balconies for 5 minutes to salute the PM. We were all getting ready to do exactly that -- some out of fear and some out of bhakti -- when a wise soul said it was a prank.
Good or bad, it is this unquestioned obedience to Modi that is going to save our lives in the pandemic, though many of us may not have a job to survive.
Jaan hai to jahaan hai.

Blog Post #4: Cultural Tour Analysis/Observation
INDIAN HERITAGE CENTRE
The Indian Heritage Centre located in the heart of Little India is an iconic building that blends together both traditional and modern architecture elements. It is managed under the National Heritage board with support from the Indian Community and traces the history of the Indian and South Asian communities in the Southeast Asian region.

Hinduism is a very large and significant religion among Indian Singaporeans. We were educated on the many different Gods that Hindu individuals worship. This includes Ganesha, one of the best known and worshipped deities in the Hindu faith. Ganesha is an elephant headed body, representing wisdom, success and good luck. In comparison, Australia has a predominately Christian community and therefore it was interesting to learn more about Hinduism and how religion can play a large factor in healthy ageing amongst individuals in different countries.

A symbol that is significant worn my Hindu women is the Mangalsutra. It is a piece of jewellery, usually a necklace that symbolises a woman’s marital status. It is usually tied around the neck of the bride by the groom during the wedding ceremony and ritual. This necklace symbolises marrige and is always worn by the bride until their husband passes. This necklace originates from South India where it is also called thali and consists of black and gold beads.

Institutional Eating
Our first stop in the south was Bengalore where we were lucky enough to meet up with two contacts who were friends of friends in the states. One of which was a  travel agent and a foodie. Her name is Shabari aka Shabs and she reminded us that we need to be looking for the institutions! The oldest places in town where all the locals go to get their fix. Our first meeting with shabs was at the airlines hotel.
Tumblr media
Mind you... it was not a hotel. We discovered that in India and a bit in Sri Lanka the restaurants adopted the title of hotel although there is no sign of a room for the night anywhere in sight. As with many different foods in India, they boast the most nutritious and balanced of meals.
Tumblr media
(Airlines Hotel Restaurant!)
As explained by both our friends In India The idli is the breakfast they say has been researched as the most balanced breakfast in the world! The idli is a rice flour and dal batter that is steamed (the shape of a small empanada) and is served with sambar and chutney. The idli itself is said to be very easy in your stomach while the sambar and chutney add... and obviously flavor. Sambar is a vegetable stew-like sauce. chutney is a dip that is not cooked more like a purée. It could be of coconut, tomato, mint or cilantro. They were served with almost everything South Indian... and I love it.
We began our South Indian breakfast at, as mentioned Airlines Hotel with an idli and the other delicious traditional Indian  breakfast... many know it. The dosa. I was not familiar with the dosa and loved the pan fried thin pancake of rice and dal flour (most of the breakfast treats use that mixture) again served with the chutney and sambar. The dosa unlike the idli was crisp and delicious and was had in a variety of ways. At airlines we had the traditional and I was in love. The last breakfast treat, the final piece to the Indian institution breakfast trifecta is the vada. Another dal and rice flour batter fried in the shape of a donut. A savory donut to die for. We were hooked and realized we were lucky to discover this spot and the hidden world of the authentic Indian breakfast. For the next 5 weeks we were on the search for the south Indian breakfast institutions. If the restaurant was sparse with metal tables and stools, no menu and older men in lunghis working the room we knew we were in the right place. These institutions are well oiled machines and one could be in and out in 10 minutes flat. There was nothing desirable in terms of ambiance... it was all about the quick and easy delicious meal.
Tumblr media
(surprisingly enough, we have NO food pics of our favorite breakfasts ever! so here is my birthday dosa;)
Tumblr media
(another dosa picture... crispy no filling, RIDICULOUSLY LARGE, accompanied by two idlis each...)
THALIS... the second meal that quickly became my favorite was lunch. It was a complete meal including each of the six flavors...sweet, sour, salt, bitter, astringent and spicy.
Tumblr media
In southern india it is traditionally served on a banana leaf, or in a round serving dish. In Indian food serving culture a proper meal should have a balance of all six flavors. You enter and clean your banana leaf with water. The staff them comes over, gives you a large pile of rice, a papad (crispy fried tortilla cracker like used to break up and put with the rice and curry to crunch it up) and then walks away. The next person comes with a carrier that usually has three different dishes; One a dry mixture, the other two curries. Then you are given a spread of sauces, sambar, a couple chutneys and yogurt. (Sometimes other deliciousness that we weren't aware what they were) and we were set. A fully vegetarian meal with basically free refills sans utensils. (We only got comfortable with the idea of eating with our hands the last week of our trip while in Tamil Nadu) the thali had spicy flavors, sweet (oh yeah a small ramekin of dessert is given too, usually something similar to arroz con leche either with rice or rice noodles... add a little cardamom and it's the perfect way to finish a meal) we worked our way through the three dishes adding what ever combination of sauces until my leaf was almost empty and belly mostly full. We learned at the end of our trip the yogurt wasn't to be used (although I did on various occasions) in conjunction with the other dishes but after you eat them... and your mouth and belly is full of spices and various flavors... you get a little more rice, pour the yogurt, mix then eat. The yogurt is Meant to be cleansing and soothing for better digestion.
Tumblr media
We learned in India.. it's all about the digestion and balance of the meal. And it was an absolute delight to find the places known for their breakfasts or for their thalis and eat there as many times as possible. The locals were awesome at helping us through the etiquette when we missed the nuances through our extensive observation prior to even attempting to eat the dish. It was amazing. I never left an Indian meal feeling stuffed or bloated or unpleasant and it was amazing. I feel like the Indian cuisine I've had at home had paled in comparison and I am forever tainted and feel like I will be forever searching for the real deal when I get home... we may just have to utilize our 10 year visa and go back to enjoy it just a little bit more :)
Tumblr media
(RRR, home of our first thali experience... we sat for a good 5 minutes observing before we attempted to do anything)
Beyond the food... the restaurants, hotels or whatever you want to call them, the institutions had a certain feel. They were basic, bare bones with waiters usually serving barefoot and the people in the back cooking in lunghis and serious about their process.
Tumblr media
(this is another institution, MTR, Mavali Tiffin Room, super busy and packed, shared a table with another couple and floundered our way through the experience... as per usual)
The meals came out fast and delicious every single time. (Although we tried not to look in the kitchen too much) We encountered many quality restaurants but our favorite ls were institutions recommended by the one and only shabs. She set us up for an amazing culinary tour through the southern states of India.
Tumblr media
Lesson learned... if it looks like maybe you shouldn't eat there but it's packed... you should. Second lesson... if you find a place you like, go back there's no shame in enjoying many Masala dosas and thalis day after day... you're only there once!

No crisis can determine India's future
BY PM NARENDRA MODI

Coronavirus in India: Of Operation Diya and Narendra Modi’s Big Boss house
Narendra Modi lighting the lamp Picture Credit score: Businesses
India lit diyas (lamps) on Sunday night time, responding to an attraction by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to gentle 9 diyas at 9pm to showcase unity in the struggle in opposition to the coronavirus pandemic.
Like the sooner thali banging to understand front-line fighters – medical doctors and nurses, which noticed folks break the foundations of social distancing by mingling collectively, the diya occasion witnessed folks letting off firecrackers and taking out processions.
Name me a sceptic, however letting off fireworks to struggle a respiratory illness is an indication of a thoughts in thrall to a cult. The air high quality in India had improved dramatically publish the 21-day complete lockdown, however the fireworks have now added to the air pollution.
Modi’s hallmark is massive daring selections, dramatic in nature with little planning of the aftermath and the results. L.Okay. Advani, one of many founders of the BJP, had caustically described Modi as a “good event manager”.
However in the time of corona do these occasions assist or hinder in the battle in opposition to the illness?
Modi has addressed the nation twice in the course of the pandemic, a lot in the way in which of a paterfamilias setting India duties – thali banging for 5 minutes and the 9 diyas at 9pm. Psychologically it’s good technique – it will get the citizen personally invested in Modi’s efforts and makes her really feel that she owns the technique.
Two issues, nonetheless, are vastly worrisome. Hundreds of desperately poor folks took to the highway after Modi introduced the world’s greatest lockdown with a four-hour discover. The potential for contagion and infectious unfold are nonetheless to be assessed.
But, this reverse migration to the villages full with police excesses discovered no point out in Modi’s deal with or plans.
Modi in his sixth-year as a two-term prime minister is but to handle an open press convention, which is an pressing exigent requirement as a world pandemic rages.
The poor planning and abrupt announcement of the lockdown induced the village migration, which some have in comparison with what occurred in the course of the partition of India.
Modi leaves officers scrambling as they hear the newest diktat and get into harm management mode. This time round it was feared that your complete electrical energy grid would collapse as folks switched off their lights collectively in obedience to Modi.
It’s debatable whether or not a chief minister ought to add to the chaos in India’s response to coronavirus. As is the norm now in India, authorities departments despatched out directives to make sure the success of Operation Diya. Ought to a voluntary occasion in a democracy search such compliance from the federal government?
Modi, in fact, participated in his personal occasion, sporting dramatic colors and placing out footage. It was lights, digicam, motion in 7 Lok Kalyan Marg because the Pradhan Showman did his bit.
Earlier, such Modi occasions had been choreographed by Apco Worldwide, a transnational, which managed Modi’s picture when he was Gujarat Chief minister. This time round, Modi an ace at picture administration, doesn’t appear to wish skilled picture consultants. A spokesman for Apco worldwide mentioned they had been now not working with Modi. Apco worldwide in all probability must take classes from Modi, who has now constructed his fame as India’s patriarch.
Rahul Gandhi, former Congress president, could have been prescient in his repeated warnings on the coronavirus catastrophe for India, however Modi together with his occasions, has taken again the benefit with the center class, which by and massive, units opinions in India. This part, which is concerned and invested in Modi’s duties, don’t have any complaints.
The close to cult like admiration for Modi has additionally seen these duties such because the one-day Janata curfew look like dry runs for Modi’s plan – an off-the-cuff ballot based mostly on activity compliance.
Sadly, the one strategy to defeat coronavirus is by way of extra testing, extra hospitals and offering safety tools to the true coronavirus warriors – the medical doctors and nurses.
In the course of the 21-day lockdown, Modi’s duties do give folks a way of objective. However a rustic isn’t a actuality present and we’re not dwelling in Modi’s Big Boss house.
India must eschew dramatics and transfer quick -the coronavirus is resistant to occasions.
