Recreating the Indie Sleaze House Party Vibe for the Ultimate Nostalgia Night!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hey, babe! 🌸 Have you been feeling a little nostalgic lately? Because same. There’s something about the vibe of those iconic indie sleaze house parties that just hits different, right? From the chaotic energy to the effortless style, and of course, the music that had us dancing like no one was watching – it was a whole mood. So, what do you say we bring that magic back for one night? I’m talking about a full-on Nostalgia Night where we recreate the ultimate indie sleaze house party vibe, complete with all the nostalgic hits. Ready to dive into the time machine? Let’s go! 🎧✨
What Was Indie Sleaze All About? 🌟
Before we start planning the perfect party, let’s take a moment to reminisce about what made indie sleaze so iconic. Picture it: the mid-to-late 2000s, when house parties were grungy, glamorous, and just the right amount of chaotic. Think Polaroid pictures, messy hair, and outfits that looked effortlessly thrown together (but you secretly spent hours perfecting). It was all about not trying too hard while still looking like the coolest person in the room. And the music? Absolute bangers that made you want to dance until the sun came up.
Step 1: Setting the Scene 🕯️
First things first – we’ve got to nail the vibe. Indie sleaze was all about that gritty, yet oddly cozy atmosphere. Here’s how to set the scene:
1. Low Lighting and Neon Signs 💡
Forget bright overhead lights – we’re going for mood here. Use string lights, candles, or even some neon signs to create a dim, inviting space. Bonus points if you can find a retro “open” sign or something equally as cool to hang up.
2. Mismatched Furniture and Vintage Finds 🛋️
Part of the indie sleaze charm was that nothing matched – and that was the point. Mix and match your furniture, throw some vintage blankets over the couches, and add a few old-school posters to the walls. The more eclectic, the better.
3. Polaroids Everywhere 📸
Polaroid cameras were practically the symbol of the indie sleaze era. Hang up a string of Polaroid photos from past parties or create a DIY photo booth with a Polaroid camera for guests to snap their own pics throughout the night. Instant memories = instant vibes.
Step 2: The Perfect Indie Sleaze Playlist 🎶
The music was the heartbeat of any indie sleaze party, so we’ve got to get the playlist just right. Here are the nostalgic hits that will transport you straight back to the good ol’ days:
1. “Kids” by MGMT 👶
An absolute must. This song was the anthem of every indie sleaze party, and the moment that iconic synth line kicks in, everyone’s going to lose it.
2. “Electric Feel” by MGMT ⚡
Yes, another MGMT track, because no indie sleaze playlist is complete without it. The groovy beats and psychedelic vibes are perfect for getting everyone on the dance floor.
3. “Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Remix)” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs 🎧
This track is pure energy. It’s impossible not to dance when this song comes on, and it’s a certified indie sleaze classic.
4. “Paper Planes” by M.I.A. 💸
Catchy, rebellious, and oh-so-iconic. This track is all about that indie edge, and the beat drop? Legendary.
5. “Lisztomania” by Phoenix 🔥
An instant mood-lifter. This song’s upbeat tempo and catchy chorus make it a playlist essential. It’s all about those carefree, summer-night vibes.
6. “1901” by Phoenix 🇫🇷
Another Phoenix track because, let’s be real, they were the soundtrack of the indie sleaze era. The guitar riffs, the vibe – everything about this song screams nostalgia.
7. “Dance Yrself Clean” by LCD Soundsystem 🕺
If you’re going for a late-night, almost euphoric dance vibe, this is the track to put on. The build-up is everything, and when the beat finally drops, it’s like a whole new level of party.
8. “Fluorescent Adolescent” by Arctic Monkeys 🌆
This song is the perfect mix of cheeky and cool, capturing that effortless indie sleaze vibe. It’s great for singing along at the top of your lungs.
9. “Time to Pretend” by MGMT (yes, again!) ⏳
Because let’s face it, MGMT dominated the indie sleaze scene, and this track is all about living in the moment – exactly what we’re going for.
Step 3: The Outfits – Effortlessly Cool 👗
Now that we’ve got the scene and the music covered, let’s talk outfits. The key to indie sleaze fashion is looking like you just threw something together and still managed to be the coolest person in the room. Here’s how to nail the look:
1. Vintage Band Tees 🎸
Nothing says indie like a worn-out band tee. Bonus points if it’s a band that no one’s ever heard of. Pair it with ripped skinny jeans or a mini skirt, and you’re golden.
2. Layer It Up 🧥
Layers were everything in the indie sleaze days. Think flannels over tees, leather jackets over dresses, or cardigans draped over anything. The more mismatched, the better.
3. Grungy Hair and Makeup 💄
Messy hair is a must – think loose waves, undone updos, or just letting it do its thing. For makeup, go for smudgy eyeliner, a bold lip, and don’t be afraid to add a bit of glitter. It’s all about that “I just rolled out of bed and still look amazing” vibe.
4. Statement Accessories 🕶️
Whether it’s oversized sunglasses, chunky jewelry, or a fedora (yes, fedoras were a thing), accessories are key to pulling the whole look together. Go big or go home!
Step 4: The Drinks – Keep It Classic 🍻
No indie sleaze party is complete without some classic, no-fuss drinks. Here’s what to have on hand:
1. Cheap Beer 🍺
It doesn’t have to be fancy – indie sleaze was all about keeping it real. Stock up on your favorite cheap beer, and you’re good to go.
2. Vodka Cranberry 🍒
Simple, tasty, and easy to make. Plus, it’s got that throwback vibe we’re all about.
3. Whiskey on the Rocks 🥃
For the indie purists. It’s strong, straightforward, and adds a bit of edge to the party.
Final Thoughts, Babe: Let’s Make This Nostalgia Night One to Remember!
So there you have it – everything you need to recreate the ultimate indie sleaze house party vibe. From setting the scene and curating the perfect playlist, to nailing your outfit and stocking up on drinks, this is going to be a night that takes you straight back to the golden days of grunge glamour and effortlessly cool chaos.
Whether you’re planning this for your crew or just want to relive the nostalgia on your own, the key is to have fun, let loose, and embrace the carefree spirit of the indie sleaze era. It’s not about perfection – it’s about the memories, the music, and the moments that make you feel alive.
Are you ready to host the ultimate Nostalgia Night, or do you have some indie sleaze memories you’re dying to share? Let’s chat in the comments – I’m all ears, babe! 💕

I’m obsessed with TTPD. It’s been streaming for me non-stop. But I’ve seen on tiktok the discussion of TTPD rollout vs. Anthology and in general how a few changes could have made it stronger as a collection (each song still is a masterpiece but in terms of big picture album concept). I do think Taylor shines to just a whole new stratosphere when she challenges herself with a strong concept (1989, Folklore), so here’s my idea for the stricter concept-ification of TTPD:
The Tortured Poets Department:
1. Fortnight - obviously a lead single, and something that just sets the tone of someone in an imaginative but spiraling mental breakdown.
2. So Long, London - sets the tone right off the bat that we’re in a confessional treasure trove of an album with some sharp ass writing.
3. TTPD - a red herring, because on first listen you’re thinking this one song is going to encapsulate her troubles with a certain flaky poet type. Oh how wrong you will be.
4. But Daddy I Love Him - picks the energy up, so funny and delulu, iconic surprise baby moment, a bop. This also has to come before Smallest Man so needs to be up top.
5. How Did It End? - this is Track 5. If this had been on the initial album it would have gotten the loml treatment. The concept of TTPD is about the breakdown of a person while on display to the public (I was tame I was gentle til the circus life made me mean), and HDIE is THE song that brings this concept and the level of emotion to the track list.
6. The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived - builds off the raw and quiet devastation of HDIE to anger and a scathing bridge, a TS instant classic. Orients us to the turmoil we never knew was under the surface.
7. Guilty as Sin? - taking a break from the emotional hits for a moment of bopping
8. Down Bad - ditto, but bringing back the essential truth that this is a desperate spiral album
9. The Black Dog - masterpiece, and leads beautifully into..
10. Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me? - the culmination of all the anger and accusations within the depression that is TTPD
11. loml - bringing it back to a raw, honest examination of the heartbreak(s) at the core of the album. The quiet sobbing after an explosion of anger.
12. I Can Do it With a Broken Heart - I think this lands so strong toward the end of the album. This is a reminder of the sparkling Taylor we know, tied back to everything we just heard. She’s saying ‘and don’t fucking forget who you’re dealing with, gave you the eras tour while writing all the above’
13. The Prophecy - as an album closer I think this does something insane to the listener, especially long time swifties. The way this subtlety and cynically ties to the concept of eras is the other side of the coin to ICDIWABH and is just such a punch of an ending for TTPD concept.
Okay that’s my perfect TTPD as a wholistic work although I do weep to lose some favs. THEN 3-4 weeks later Taylor releases the deluxe version, The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology, with the below bonus tracks in this order
- Fresh Out the Slammer
- Chloe et al
- imgonnagetyouback
- The Bolter
- Clara Bow
- So High School
- The Manuscript
Basically these are all essential TS tracks that don’t fit as squarely in the initial 13 track concept but all add a beautiful insight into the narrative nonetheless. Kind of like the side character episode, prequel, etc. that adds a different but enriching perspective to a show.
TTPD is amazing and in my top either way (same for most fans I think) but my opinion is this concept would have just been more award bait/critical darling material 🤍🐾

Penrose Song of the Day Bonus Track: Folded Out by Stolen Jars
Help, I'm experiencing skill gap. If you only read one song of the day read this one, it's just as personal and not as private.
There's a lot of music. A LOT! There's too much music. (There will never be enough). There are so many songs and styles and instruments and conventions and broken expectations and formats and hooks and methods.
Music is probably the largest language I care to learn, after math (Which is just music before we could hear it). So it's frustrating to want to have the language to talk about it without having that language.
This is not a song that I had ever heard of until today. But it is an instant classic. Shoutout to @Telomar, someone I greatly respect the musical tastes of. I'm a bit afraid of it actually, which feels good to admit. A relief to stop holding that insecurity tight to my body.
I don't know anything! I am a fraud, an idiot, a know nothing know it all. I think I know so much about music and I am simply not that smart. I like music but I don't know what I'm doing.
And I know that's not true, I don't know nothing. I played instruments, I can interrogate a text. I'm learning terminology and song structure and what my tastes are (not just things I like, but why I like them). I want to make music one day but I'm scared to start. I feel like I don't have enough time in the day to do everything I want to and this one is the one I'm most scared of. What if I suck. What if I'll never get decent, let alone good. What if the things I have to say are boring or bad or ugly or cruel. What if I've only ever thought I was musically inclined but I'm actually a tone deaf fop.
It's hard to be authentic, because for starters I'm sick of that asshole, and I think he's kind of overhyped, and basic as fuck. But I won't start being authentic by being afraid to be open right. I gotta admit the things I like, the things I don't know, and when I'm only learning. Stop pretending I know what's going on and be ok with saying I don't know what that is, what that means, who that is, what that song is. I instantly look them up, I listen, I give my honest feedback. I'm starting to pick out instrumentation tracks. I'm going to get good. I'm going to be perfectly hyped, and have something interesting to say.
But that starts by admitting my smallness. No one anywhere knows everything about their field, it is actually impossible. No one is expected to. All I can do is do my best at.
What's so intimidating about your tastes @Telomar is that your tastes are specific. I like that I can hear a song that you like and recognize why it's something you like, even if I can't name it yet. I'm starting to recognize genres that I would associate with you. I'm starting to interrogate different aspects of music that I wouldn't have before. I don't know, it makes me stretch in a good way. I want to meet you there, in your music. Maybe I decide I don't like the weather, or that I only want a summer home where you listen. But I want to know the roadmap of how to get there. I want to be able to find you in the ocean of sound, if that makes sense.
So I've been dabbling back and forth through a playlist of faves he has, doing some homework. Listening to music I never knew, music I like, some I don't care for. But none of it bad- I'm appreciating what's there more and more.
I want to know more. I can't sit on my laurels, I can't do nothing. I can't lose focus. If you care about something, you have to put in the effort right? Even if you're tired. You do what you can.
Folded Out has a country guitar sensibility. It has a delicate percussion. It has a clear, intriguing melody line for the guitar. The layering is slow, methodical, and clear. There's a homespun feel to the song. It's a bit of soft, sweet Stomp Clap. It's cute. It gives you that chest feeling. It's good. Good job Stolen Jars. Good job.
Anyways, have a second song of the day because writing the Bare one unclogged something.
You could be dead right now. Go listen to something you love.

Today's compilation:
Roc-A-Fella Presents...This Thing of Ours 1998 Hip Hop / Hardcore Hip Hop / Gangsta Rap
Whoo boy, do I have some straight-up vintage late 90s ephemeral New York rap FIRE for you all today. Here's Roc-A-Fella Presents...This Thing of Ours, a short promo sampler EP from the label that Jay-Z helped co-found and grow, and that you could only find as a bonus disc in limited edition copies of Jay's own instant classic third album, 1998's Vol. 2...Hard Knock Life. This here is the type of shit that used to lace the 🔥hottest🔥 of mixtapes back in the day; stuff you might find on either a DJ Clue? or Funkmaster Flex CD; gratuitously non-commercial gritty street raps laid over monster beats that had been strictly made to induce the hardest of constant head-nods. Basically a hip hop head's paradise 😤.
But before we get into this little CD itself, I need to provide some background for one of its best tracks. And in order to do that, we need to go all the way back to 1993, because that's the year that a New York rap group called Original Flavor dropped their most well-known single, "Can I Get Open," which featured none other than a young and unsigned Jay-Z on it. And within that group was a guy by the name of Tone Hooker too.
Now, Original Flavor ended up parting ways following the release of their second album in 1994, but a few years later, Tone Hooker would resurface with the only solo release of his career, a 12-inch on Profile Records called "Crew Love," which would feature both NY underground great O.C. on it, as well as Jay-Z, with Jay supplying its chorus. And I don't know who ended up producing that track, but its beat was a bit sparse and darkly crystalline.
However, the following year, another song with Jay-Z on it called "Cru Love" would come out too. And Jay would also rap the *same exact* lyrics on its choruses also! But instead of Tone Hooker and O.C. providing the verses, this one would feature Roc-A-Fella labelmates Memphis Bleek and Beanie Sigel both rapping about drugs, guns, money, and the rap game, with Beanie's verse containing a bars-long extended metaphor that very cleverly equated a drug enterprise with Monopoly. And what's more is that this song's extraordinarily knocking, big-string beat that sounded like a boxer's walk-in music, and was provided by a little-known guy named Derrick Trotman, had clearly drawn inspiration from the far more understated production of the other version of "Crew Love" too 😯.
Then there's another banger on here that comes courtesy of a pretty unknown group who were briefly on Roc-A-Fella and Tommy Boy called Diamonds In Da Ruff. These guys never put out an actual album, but they had a couple 12-inches. And their song, "Respect," which came with a terrific blues-piano-and-guitar driven beat, first appeared on this very CD, before also being included on a DIDR album sampler cassette in '99. But, like I said, even though an album sampler was able to materialize, no actual album for them came afterwards 😕.
So, some really fantastic rap goodies on this little Roc-A-Fella EP here. It's not a very uncommon practice for a label to throw in a bonus sampler along with an album, but for that sampler to be as quality as this one is, is definitely a treat. Some real hardcore New York magic on this thing that ends up making for a wonderful late 90s time capsule 🤩.
Highlights:
DJ Clue? - "DJ Clue Snippets" Jay-Z feat. Memphis Bleek & Beanie Sigel - "Cru Love" Diamonds in da Ruff - "Respect" Memphis Bleek feat. Jay-Z - "Can I Live" Beanie Sigel - "Beanie Sigel Freestyle"

The new album by Visions of Atlantis is out!
As a big fan of theirs who has got nothing better to do, here are my 24 cents about it*:
*2 for each song
Warning: First impressions + no proofread! Also, there's a poll in the end ;)
01. To Those Who Choose To Fight - wait, a short track for an intro? Didn't expect that... Makes for a nice prelude if you listen to the two Pirates albums back to back. 02. The Land Of The Free - Holy fuck, this is my jam. They went unusually heavy on the orchestrations here, the guitars are nice, the whole thing is overall bombastic! Unusual, coming from this band - instant favourite. 💙 03. Monsters - the one that made me worried that the album will be too similar to the previous one. Very catchy, nice lyrics, love it, but still... Listening now in context, it fits well with the more explosive/massive sound they chose for the first part of the album. Fortunately, I think they managed to make this popular explosive sound their own here, implementing the best parts from the overall slower albums with Clementine. 04. Tonight I'm Alive - honestly, respect for whoever wrote this - they managed to chase away many of my doubts in basically the last moment. A nice dose of surprise (for me). My favourite single! 💙 Really brings out in the daylight the funniest variant of my awful dancing. 05. Armada - (unfortunately or not, depends on the listener) really similar to Legion of the Seas; although I actually like it more out of the two. Has a little more humour in it, that's why. Can't wait to hear both live in Milan - they promise to be so much fun! Hail Jolly Roger! 06. The Dead Of The Sea - a great opportunity to pinpoint just how goood the vocal duo is. Their voices go together like bread and butter if you ask me. Probably at the core of things it's this that made their last 3 albums a success. Both Clemi and Michele really shine here. 07. Ashes To The Sea - here we go, a ballad! Hooray! Slow tracks are always great if they're made by Visions of Atlantis (fangirling: 100). They just have something that gets me every time. 08. Hellfire - can I say how much I love the fact that in this album they never slow down after the nice/bombastic intros? Many bonus points from me here. The Alestorm junkie in me immediately responded to that "Hellfire!" call, and the whole song is a banger. Another heart of special recommending from me.💙 09. Collide - interestingly, Clemi's parts here immediately reminded me of Exit Eden... 10. Magic Of The Night - another dance-y song. They're just so fun to me. Also, guys, please stop exciting me with those woodwinds?! I fall for those EVERY TIME, I'm a little ashamed... XD 11. Underwater - ballad #2 - in the usual place in the tracklist. A classic Visions of Atlantis one, with an accent on Clemi's indisputable talent. 12. Where The Sky And Ocean Blend - had a lot of expectations for the closing track, since I Will Be Gone was my favourite from the last album. I'm glad to say that I'm satisfied with it's diversity and lyrics (looove the bridge)! Now, GIVE ME MOOORE!!!
Conclusion: The band's adorable style - combining a very romantic dreaminess with a lot of humour, continues to entice me - especially since the last is even more prevalent here compared to the previous album. I'm very happy that they managed to surprise me with a lot of the instrumentals. All songs look fun to sing along to, but I don't know all the lyric yet. Gotta solve this soon! Fun fact: did you know that the "characters" of the albums are first identified as pirates in a song from Wanderers - At The End Of The World? ("We will make our life / Like the pirates we once were") Did I mention that I can't wait to see them in Milan...
Ok, thanks to you who read all of this! I'd love to hear your opinion about the album, if you feel like sharing (something long or just random noises of pirate-happiness or grumpiness, doesn't matter)! Ahoy, going in for a second full listen!

Radiohead - Kid A
How to piss off your fanbase in one easy step: follow up you most successful album with something bizarre and experimental and use almost nothing but synthesizers and basically be incomprehensible. Bonus points if the album is a masterpiece that will go on to be regarded as one of the best albums ever written. The anxious frailty common to Radiohead's previous albums is still there but there's more intensity, more of an ominous apocalyptic energy. The lyrics are mainly nonsense, cut up phrases with no clear meaning. The vagueness coupled with the intense abstract instrumentals lead to a fearful atmosphere. The album feels like it is failing to imitate a human. It's eerie.
Tumblr media
Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Butterfly
Kendrick has doubled down on being a poet and with these songwriting skills he is tackling some difficult ideas. The first half.of the album deals a lot with Kendrick's own place in society and in the rap game and whether or not he can return to his roots in any sincere way. Whether his success prevents him from representing his neighborhood in Compton anymore. As the album continues he expands the subject matter and it becomes a struggle between sincerity and machismo and how much of black culture is constructed as a response to oppression and ultimately lands on being proud of the many composite things that make up blackness in America. It's an incredible journey and I struggle to even summarize the themes. Musically it is also so much more than good kid m.A.A.d city was in every regard. There's more funk including an appearance by George Clinton and frequent production by Thundercat. There's also so much jazz and soul and features such a wide variety of guest musicians including SZA, Kamasi Washington, Flying Lotus, and many others. This is also a well paced album, it is long but it is full of bangers and right up to the last track it is catchy and engaging. To Pimp A Butterfly is a powerful enigmatic statement. One of those albums that becomes an instant classic and will be guaranteed to be remembered as one of the best albums of all time for decades to come.
Tumblr media
Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited
Yeah no shit they put this one up so high Rolling Stone magazine is literally named after the song Like A Rolling Stone. But also a totally valid choice for best Dylan album. Every single song is Dylan at his peak. I can barely pick out high points for how good everytthing is. Obviously Like A Rolling Stone is legendary, the eleven minute closer Desolation Row is a standout, but I think that Ballad Of A Thin Man might be my favorite Dylan song. After so many Dylan albums on this list I barely have anything new to say. I guess if you have liked any of it at all then you will definitely like Highway 61 Revisited.
Tumblr media
Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
https://youtu.be/wvgehVhF9D4
https://youtu.be/e7e5BFJa-Ug
Yup I knew this was coming. Kanye West's magnum opus. Twisted Fantasy is a maximalist progressive hip hop labyrinth. Kanye pulls in influences from prog rock, most obviously in his sampling of King Crimson on power, but also in playing around with song structure. Frankly it is hard to pin any one thing down because every song is so much. You have everything from the piano intro of Runaway which becomes a hip hop soul epic, the intensity of Monster's back to back guest verses, the completely unexpected Bon Iver feature, the occasional guitar solo. Oh man speaking of Monster tho I feel like we really need to appreciate that we get both Jay-Z's worst verse (Sasquatch, Godzilla, King Kong, Loch Ness, Goblin, ghoul, a zombie with no conscience) and "ahhhhhhhh put the pussy in a scarmophogoghs" from this song. Also Nicki Minaj's best verse ever to close out the song, seriously she is stunning on here. Anyway yeah Kanye seems to be making a statement about the hip hop kayfabe on here. He seems to be semi-ironically embracing the callous superstar aesthetic. How much this album is a criticism of the excess of celebrity culture or just the start of Ye's villain arc is up for debate, but even if I don't wanna be charitable it's still a huge bombastic, addictive masterpiece.
Tumblr media
The Clash - London Calling
For being remembered as one of the most iconic punk albums London Calling is a much more complex blend of punk, rock n roll, new wave, ska, dub, and post punk. Their sound reflected the diverse musical culture of 70s London. Frankly it's hard to pin down exactly where the punk is on this album. Guns Of Brixton is just a reggae song, Wrong Em Boyo is a ska song and it interpolates American folk song Stagger Lee. Lost In The Supermarket is a distinctly post punk song with it's disco beat, Spanish Bombs is as power pop as they come, and Train In Vain is basically a piece of heartland rock. Where the album is most cohesive is lyrically and thematically. Most of the tracks on London Calling describe some aspect of inner city London living or a character therein. The plight of the working poor and immigrants. While punk definitely continued into the 80s as a rough and volatile genre full of teens with raw emotions, The Clash brought the more art rock side of the genre into the mainstream with London Calling.
Tumblr media
Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back
Public Enemy were a perfect storm. The interplay between the militant black nationalist politics of Chuck D and the much more laid back point man Flava Flav created a dynamic flow that wasn't matched by any contemporaries. On the other side is production crew The Bomb Squad and turntablist Terminator X creating densely sample based instrumentals that match the intensity of the rapping. On It Takes A Nation Of Millions the intensity is ramped up from their debut and they double down on the political angle. To compare the politics of this album vs Fear Of A Black Planet, there is a grander scope on It Takes A Nation Of Millions. It revels in mythologizing of the band a bit more. Either way this album also brings most of Public Enemy's biggest hits Bring The Noise, Don't Believe The Hype, and Prophets Of Rage especially.
Tumblr media
The Rolling Stones - Exile On Main St.
Exile On Main St. is raw rough and rowdy right up the Rolling Stone's alley. This album has some of their best production successfully balancing the need to sound rough around the edges with the level of professionalism that a band as big as the Stones could afford. It starts and ends on some of their best songs, Rocks Off and Rip This Joint open the album while Shine A Light and Soul Survivor close it out, but in between, idk. There isn't a bad song on here, far from it, but as a whole album Exile On Main St. has never spoken to me the way that their previous three albums did. Am I saying Exile is overrated? Yes obviously I am literally saying that. But would I side eye someone who rated this their favorite Stones album? Not at all. It's a fine choice just not mine.
Tumblr media
Aretha Franklin - I Never Loved A Man The Way I Loved You
This album begins with Aretha Franklin's meteoric hit Respect and it isn't even my favorite song on the album. This may be Franklin's tenth album, but it might as well be her debut. From the moment I Never Loved A Man dropped her career was reinvented and she was instantly the queen of soul. There are very, very few albums better than this one. Franklin sings with such power and conviction that she basically stole these songs from their original performers. Respect will never be an Otis Redding song ever again and same for Sam Cooke's A Change Is Gonna Come.
Tumblr media
Michael Jackson - Thriller
Ok do I really have to review Thriller? It's the highest selling album of all time, I bet you know a thing or two about it. Michael Jackson was the king of pop for a reason. The blueprint for success that was Off The Wall is finally realized here in a pop, disco, soul, and funk masterpiece. Seven out of the album's nine tracks were charting singles. The songs Thriller, Beat It, and Billie Jean all come one after another making up what must be the most commercially successful three song runs on any album. You prolly already know how you feel about this album so I guess this is just a reminder to give it another listen if it's been a while. If you didn't like it before maybe come at it with fresh ears, if it is already a favorite then remind yourself how good this shit is.
Tumblr media
The Beatles - Revolver
This was kinda the first cd I ever owned so you are not getting my usual super duper objective reviewing here lmao. Revolver really is one of my favorites. The Beatles have genuinely crafted some very catchy delightful tunes. All of the exploring they did on Rubber Soul paid off in a big way with the fuzzy guitars of She Said, She Said and Taxman, the baroque strings of Eleanor Rigby, of course the psychedelic experimentation of Tomorrow Never Knows. The thing that makes this not just one of the best Beatles records but one worthy of being on this list is the production. George Martin mixes every song in this hazy way that feels warm, but also distant. Like a pleasant memory. Martin also has fun on Tomorrow Never Knows by cutting up the tape and reconstructing it into the backwards guitar solos that can be heard throughout. Basically I think this is one of The Beatles best records, but it is definitely George Martin's best record, he really earns the 'fifth Beatle' moniker here.

💿🎶 "It's me, hi I'm the problem, it's me (I'm the problem, it's me) At teatime, everybody agrees" - Anti-Hero by Taylor Swift, Midnights, 2022 In case you missed it somehow, let me be the one to tell you, Taylor Swift released a new album today!!! Midnights is so good!! Of course I ran to Target to get my Lavender Edition of the album, with the three bonus tracks! But, if you, again, somehow, missed it, there's actually even MORE bonus tracks! B/c there's also the Midnights (3am Edition) with 7 SEVEN more songs! Lol. (But it's only on digital) This album is so GOOD! I love it so much. And it's only been 24 hours! I can't tell you what my favorite song is because I love them all so much. (Also I'm so terrible at picking favorites in general, and I tend to do albums front to back for a few days or weeks after their release lol) I know I'm biased because I love Taylor, but, if you don't believe me that this album is a masterpiece, maybe you'll believe Rolling Stone, Guardian, and Independent UK, who all gave the album 5/5 stars, 100%, etc. Rolling Stone even called it an "Instant Classic", and they did not lie. This album is everything. And the MV for Anti-Hero is so good too! <3 You'll likely get another post from me in a week, because I may have another copy of the album coming in the mail. Lol. 😉 #TaylorSwift #Midnights #TSMidnighTS #LavenderEdition #Midnights3amedition #midnighTSnosleepover #AntiHeroMusicVideo #AntiHeroChallenge #me #myface #Target #CD #selfie #selca #lavender #antihero #love #music #instantclassic https://www.instagram.com/p/CkAMP-AMRxm/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

HI MY BELOVED FAVOURITE TSWIFT LOVER, HOW WAS MIDNIGHTS? THOUGHTS? TOP TRACKS? MUAH !!
helloooo beloved okay here’s what i have to say:
Tumblr media
it was a bit of a grower for me but honestly … complete and utter slay. the 3am bonus tracks absolutely make it for me, especially instant classic would’ve could’ve should’ve, which i’ve had on repeat all afternoon !!
other favourites: snow on the beach, question…? and sweet nothing were instant favourites for me… lavender haze & maroon & karma & you’re on your own kid took me like three listens to be Brilliant and Showstopping, and karma, bejewelled and antihero i wasn’t sure of on first listen but now LOVE. so there’s that <3
this isn’t definite at all because i still don’t feel like i know all of them well enough yet, but it honestly completely met my expectations !! i don’t like to pit bad bitches against each other so i don’t really have a ranking of taylor’s albums, but i’d say right now it’s solidly middle of the pack for me – i still probably like maybe four or five others more but i like it a lot !!!
do you have any thoughts ?? <3

How to Host the Perfect Indie Sleaze Revival Party: From Playlist to Outfit
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ready to Host the Perfect Indie Sleaze Revival Party?
Hey babe! 🌟 Have you been dreaming of throwing the ultimate indie sleaze revival party? You know, the kind where everyone’s dancing like it’s 2008, surrounded by nostalgic vibes, killer outfits, and the perfect playlist? Well, you’re in luck because I’ve got you covered with a step-by-step guide to bringing back those chaotic, carefree house party vibes. From the right music to the ideal décor, here’s everything you need to host a party that’ll make your friends feel like they’ve stepped back in time (in the best way possible). Let’s dive in! 🎉🖤
Step 1: Curate the Ultimate Indie Sleaze Playlist 🎸
No indie sleaze revival party is complete without the perfect playlist. The music sets the tone for the entire night, so it’s gotta be on point. Here’s how to put together a playlist that’ll get everyone in the mood to dance, sing, and maybe even start a mosh pit (okay, maybe not, but you get the idea).
1.1. The Classics: Start with the Essentials 🎧
You can’t have an indie sleaze party without the anthems that defined the era. Think of tracks from the likes of MGMT, The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Arctic Monkeys. These songs are non-negotiable—they’re the backbone of your playlist.
"Electric Feel" by MGMT: This song is a must for setting the perfect party vibe.
"Last Nite" by The Strokes: Instant crowd-pleaser, guaranteed to get everyone singing along.
"Heads Will Roll" by Yeah Yeah Yeahs: The ultimate indie sleaze dance track.
1.2. Hidden Gems: Mix in Some Deep Cuts 💽
Sprinkle in some lesser-known tracks to keep the playlist fresh and exciting. These are the songs that true indie fans will appreciate, and they’ll add an extra layer of authenticity to your party.
"Paper Planes" by M.I.A.: Not exactly a deep cut, but it’s a track that brings a bit of edge and rebellion to the mix.
"Gold Lion" by Yeah Yeah Yeahs: A killer track that’s perfect for transitioning between dance breaks.
"Oxford Comma" by Vampire Weekend: Quirky and fun, this one will have everyone bopping along.
1.3. Modern Indie: Add Some New Vibes 🎤
Throw in a few tracks from today’s indie artists who are channeling that early 2000s energy. It’ll keep your playlist feeling fresh while still maintaining that nostalgic vibe.
"Want You Back" by Haim: Modern indie with a retro vibe, perfect for the dance floor.
"Bags" by Clairo: A slower track for when you want to give everyone a breather.
"The Less I Know The Better" by Tame Impala: Newer, but with a sound that fits right into your indie sleaze playlist.
Step 2: Nail the Indie Sleaze Décor 🖤
Now that your playlist is sorted, let’s talk décor. The indie sleaze aesthetic is all about grunge, chaos, and a little bit of glam. Here’s how to transform your space into the ultimate party venue.
2.1. Lighting: Dim, Moody, and Mysterious 💡
Forget bright, overhead lights—indie sleaze is all about creating a moody, intimate atmosphere.
Fairy Lights and String Lights: Hang them everywhere—around mirrors, along walls, over furniture. They add a cozy, grungy vibe.
Lava Lamps and Neon Signs: These add that perfect retro touch and a bit of color to your space.
Candles: Scatter them around the room (safely!) for a flickering, mysterious vibe. Bonus points if you use black or deep red candles for extra drama.
2.2. DIY Décor: Embrace the Messy, Eclectic Look 🎨
Indie sleaze décor isn’t about perfection—it’s about throwing together a mix of styles and letting it all come together in a way that feels effortlessly cool.
Vintage Posters and Band Flyers: Cover your walls with posters of indie bands, old gig flyers, and polaroids. You can even make a collage wall with random magazine cutouts and art prints.
Mismatched Furniture and Rugs: Don’t worry about everything matching. The more eclectic, the better. Throw down a few old rugs, bring out the vintage chairs, and let it all clash in the best way possible.
Record Players and Vinyls: Set up a record player in the corner with a stack of vinyl records. Even if you don’t play them all night, they add to the vibe and make a great conversation starter.
Step 3: Dress the Part—Indie Sleaze Outfits 💁‍♀️
Your outfit sets the tone for the night, so make sure you’re dressed to impress in true indie sleaze style. Think skinny jeans, band tees, vintage finds, and a little bit of glam.
3.1. Classic Indie Sleaze: Keep It Edgy 🖤
For that authentic indie sleaze look, it’s all about mixing grunge with glam.
Skinny Jeans and Band Tees: Start with a pair of tight, distressed skinny jeans and your favorite band tee. Bonus points if it’s a bit faded or oversized.
Leather Jackets and Denim Vests: Layer up with a leather jacket or a worn-in denim vest. These are indie sleaze staples that instantly elevate your look.
Chunky Boots or Converse: Complete the outfit with a pair of chunky combat boots or classic Converse. Scuffed-up is totally fine—it adds to the charm.
3.2. Glitz and Glam: Add Some Sparkle ✨
Indie sleaze isn’t just about grunge—it’s about mixing in some unexpected glam elements too.
Sequined Tops and Shiny Accessories: Throw on a sequined crop top or a metallic skirt for a touch of sparkle. Pair it with a statement necklace or chunky jewelry to make your outfit pop.
Messy Hair and Bold Makeup: Keep your hair tousled and a bit messy. For makeup, go for a smudged smoky eye, bold eyeliner, and a dark lip. It’s all about that effortlessly cool, slightly disheveled look.
3.3. Final Touches: The Indie Sleaze Attitude 😎
The most important part of your outfit? Your attitude. Indie sleaze is all about being confident, carefree, and just a little bit rebellious. So throw on your outfit, crank up the tunes, and own the night!
Step 4: Party Like It’s 2008—Let Loose and Have Fun! 🎉
You’ve got the playlist, the décor, and the outfit—all that’s left is to have the best time ever. Here are a few tips to keep the party going all night:
Create a Dance Floor: Clear out some space and let your guests dance their hearts out. With the right music and atmosphere, it won’t take long for everyone to start moving.
Polaroids and Disposable Cameras: Hand out disposable cameras or set up a polaroid station. The grainy, candid photos will capture the night perfectly and give everyone something to take home.
Signature Drinks: Whip up a few indie-inspired cocktails or mocktails. Think classic drinks with a twist—like a grungy take on a cosmopolitan or a neon-hued punch.
Final Thoughts, Gorgeous: Your Indie Sleaze Revival Awaits 🌟
And there you have it, babe! Your ultimate guide to throwing the perfect indie sleaze revival party. From the playlist to the outfit, you’ve got everything you need to create a night filled with nostalgia, great vibes, and unforgettable memories. So send out those invites, start planning, and get ready to party like it’s the early 2000s all over again!
What’s your go-to track for an indie sleaze party? Drop your faves in the comments—I’m always looking to add more tunes to my playlist! 💕

Why Do Horror Movie DVDs Remain Popular Collectibles?
Tumblr media
In the era of digital streaming and instant downloads, the enduring appeal of horror movie DVDs continues to captivate collectors and aficionados worldwide. Despite the convenience of online platforms, the allure of physical copies of classic Hollywood movies, particularly within the horror genre, remains steadfast. Let's explore the reasons behind the enduring popularity of horror movie DVDs.
Nostalgia and Collectibility:
Horror movie DVDs hold a special place in the hearts of enthusiasts due to the nostalgia they evoke. For many, browsing through shelves adorned with classic Hollywood movies DVD for sale brings back memories of childhood frights and teenage thrills. The tactile sensation of holding a physical copy, complete with artwork and bonus features, adds to the allure of these collectibles.
Artistic Appreciation:
Beyond mere nostalgia, horror movie DVDs are valued for their artistic merit. From iconic films of the past to modern cult classics, these DVDs showcase the creativity and craftsmanship of filmmakers. Collectors often seek out limited editions and special releases, appreciating the attention to detail and dedication to preserving cinematic history.
Cinematic Experience:
While streaming services offer convenience, they cannot replicate the immersive experience of watching a horror movie on DVD. The ritual of inserting the disc, adjusting the settings, and anticipating the flickering images on the screen adds to the anticipation and suspense. Furthermore, owning a physical copy allows viewers to escape the distractions of buffering and internet connectivity issues, ensuring an uninterrupted cinematic experience.
Collector's Value:
For serious collectors, horror movie DVDs represent more than mere entertainment—they are investments. Limited editions and out-of-print releases can fetch significant sums on the secondary market, making them highly sought-after items among enthusiasts. The rarity and exclusivity of certain DVDs add to their appeal, driving collectors to scour flea markets, thrift stores, and online auctions in search of hidden treasures.
Artwork and Packaging:
Part of the allure of horror movie DVDs lies in their artwork and packaging. From iconic movie posters to elaborate box sets, these DVDs are often adorned with striking imagery that enhances the viewing experience. Collectors appreciate the attention to detail and creativity that goes into designing these covers, which serve as tangible reminders of their favorite films.
Bonus Features and Special Editions:
Horror movie DVDs often come loaded with bonus features and special editions, offering fans a deeper insight into the filmmaking process. From behind-the-scenes documentaries to commentary tracks by directors and actors, these extras add value to the DVD and enhance the overall viewing experience. Collectors relish the opportunity to explore the hidden depths of their favorite films and gain a greater appreciation for the art of cinema.
In conclusion,
The enduring popularity of horror movie DVDs for sale can be attributed to a combination of nostalgia, artistic appreciation, and collector's value. From classic Hollywood movies to modern cult favorites, these DVDs continue to captivate audiences with their immersive cinematic experience and timeless appeal. Whether seeking out rare editions or admiring the artwork and packaging, collectors cherish these physical copies as cherished mementos of their love for the horror genre.

SWIRL360 - ‘ASK ANYBODY’ 1998 album
I’m back!! the next cd from my parent’s stash comes from my mum’s collection.
‘Ask Anybody’ the album was brought upon its release in 1998 and mum says ‘14 year old me loved it, but my tastes have evolved’
✫ I wasn’t super familiar with Swirl360, I’ve only known their later music so listening to their debut album and hearing their growth as artists was an exciting experience and I’m very happy I did so today.
This group is of twin brothers (Denny and Kenny Scott), who make summer pop music. They’ve had few chart toppers and after some research I found they had a tough time in the music industry as they strived for #1.
S360′s aesthetic and cover arts are so pleasing, they frequently use stars (which is an instant win in my eyes) and swirls ofc!
Tumblr media
^^bonus points 4 good looks, they’re hot
but as great of an idea SWIRL360 is, they do fall short musically. These two formed a classic 90′s boy band, the marketing is flawless and definitely caught the admiration of fangirls/ swirlheads (my mother confirms).
The album has 13 songs, beginning with their two hits, ‘Candy in the sun’ and ‘Hey Now Now’. swirl360 excels with their pop music and the charts show that, as they reached radio’s top 5 worldwide in 1998 (as well as having 3 other chart topping songs) But SWIRL360 only truly explores indie-pop and summercore. Lyrically the album has simple and catchy words, more often than not the songs are about fleeting love, being young and literally summer. [they execute their music perfectly and though it doesn’t stand out to me, its easy listening and light]. Vocally Kenny and Danny’s voices are rhythmic and they harmonize well, BUT technically, they’re almost stereotypical, not quite reaching impressive ranges and they don’t have any unique or defining traits in their singing.
S360 (Australian) was picked up by LA record company ‘Mercury’ and worked under the manger of band Hanson, this + s360′s music shows their market and goals as artists and celebrities.
★・・・・・・★
ASK ANYBODY ALBUM
1. Candy In The Sun 2. Hey Now Now 3. There 4. Stick Around 5. Heaven Is What You Make It 6. Don’t Shake My World 7. Rewind 8. I’ll Take My Chances 9. Ask Anybody 10. Love Should Be A Crime 11. Slow [Be There] 12. Summer Of Love 13. Forget You Too
☆ FAVOURITES, I unfortunately don’t have too much else to say,FORGIVR ME
6. Don’t Shake My World
I like the chorus, this song is a good example of what kind of music SWIRL360 excels at :)
8. I’ll Take My Chances
9. Ask Anybody
I love this song! (I couldn’t add song previews??? SRRY)(’Ask Anybody’ is on most platforms)
★・・OVERALL・・★
The album was predictable and though their slower songs were underwhelming, that did not ruin my listening experience. This cd was saved by its summer pop tracks.
6/10 music, 10/10 cover & brand
Have a good DAY★!!
