The outcome of this report will explain the design and implementation of given network scenario. The requirement is to connect all the headquarters of the Company. The headquarters based in United Kingdom, Brazil and India. This report will also give a brief explanation of the protocol that will used for configuration of the network along with its pros and cons. Configuration of WAN and LAN components are also included. This project also requires the configuration of VLANs and inter-VLAN routing. Screenshots of the working shall also be included with the appropriate responses from the devices. PROTOCOL: The protocol that is given for the completion of the task is Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) version 2. It falls in the category of link-state routing protocol. So we shall start with some information on what is link-state. LINK-STATE Link-state is a mechanism that follows the condition and connection type of every connected link and develops a metric calculation that is based on some factors that also included the factors that were set by the network engineers. The functionality of the link-state protocols is that it knows the status of the link, whether it is up or down and what is its bandwidth and calculates a cost to use that path. As we know that every router run routing protocols to find out the best path to the destination, one can consider the link-states as representing the status of the interfaces on the router. (Davis, 2002) The functionality of a link-state protocol is this that it may take a path with more number of hops, but uses the medium that has higher bandwidth than all the other paths even with lowest number of hops. Due to the features of media type awareness and other factors, these protocols consume more processing power and memory. Link-state influences all the routers that structure up the complete topology of the whole internetwork (or of the position where router is presently located), this means that every router contains the same information of the topology. Due to this whenever a change is occurred it is broadcasted to the entire topology. This method of routing is known as shortest path first. Protocols that work on link-state mechanism are OSPF, EGP and BGP mechanism. KEY-POIINTS: It uses Dijkstra algorithm for the calculation of shortest path. (Zhang, 2011) Every router in the network builds up the complete topology in its routing table, thus each router contains equal amount of information. It consumes space and memory more than distance vector. It is suitable for implementing in large networks. VLAN and Inter VLAN Routing VLANs are configured in a LAN environement to divide broadcast domains. The communication between the two host in two different VLAN requires roouting of traffic. This routing of traffic is known as inter-VLAN routing. DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION The design of this network implements the connection between the networks of all headquarters located in UK, Brazil and India. WAN communication between the headquarters is done by using routers. The routers are configured with Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) protocol that has fast convergence and is able to meet the demands of a large organization. The routing protocol is configured on all of the routers mentioned in the topology diagram and advertises to every host connected in the topology except the loopback interfaces attached with the United Kingdom HQ and IndiaHQ. Further VLANs are created on all the local network with VLAN 20 representing ADMIN and VLAN 30 representing the SALES department. NETWORK DESIGN BACKGROUND This report is for the demonstration of network design for Company’s local area network situated in of Networking. Company has Headquarter at UK, Brazil and India. Challenging CCNA Topics Explained: What to Expect and How to Master Them
Tumblr media
The Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification is a significant step for anyone pursuing a career in networking. However, the course covers a wide range of topics, and many candidates find certain areas more challenging than others. These difficulties often depend on your prior experience, technical background, and familiarity with networking concepts. What might seem tricky for one learner could be straightforward for another.
That said, some topics consistently appear as stumbling blocks for many CCNA aspirants, especially in comprehensive CCNA courses like those offered in Chandigarh. Understanding which areas are typically harder and why can help you prepare more effectively. Let’s dive into some of the most commonly challenging CCNA topics and discuss practical tips to conquer them.
Subnetting and IP Addressing
One of the most notorious challenges in the CCNA exam is subnetting. It requires more than just memorizing rules; you need to develop an intuitive understanding of how IP addresses are divided into subnets. Variable Length Subnet Masking (VLSM), in particular, adds complexity by allowing different subnet masks within the same network, which is essential for efficient IP address allocation.
Many candidates struggle initially, but with practice, subnetting becomes more manageable. Working through plenty of subnetting exercises and using visual aids like subnet calculators can boost your confidence and speed.
Routing Protocols: RIP, EIGRP, and OSPF
Routing protocols are the backbone of network communication, and the CCNA syllabus covers several of them. Routing Information Protocol (RIP), Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), and Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) each have unique characteristics, metrics, and configurations.
Grasping when to use each protocol, how they share routes, and how to troubleshoot common problems requires deep focus. Understanding concepts like administrative distance, metric calculation, and route summarization is key. Hands-on practice with router configurations and simulations will greatly enhance your skills in this area.
Access Control Lists (ACLs)
Network security is an important part of the CCNA, and Access Control Lists (ACLs) play a crucial role. ACLs allow network administrators to permit or deny traffic based on rules that filter IP packets.
Learning ACLs involves understanding the difference between standard and extended ACLs, and how to apply them to interfaces effectively. Many candidates find this challenging because ACLs require precise syntax and careful planning to avoid network issues. Practice creating and applying ACLs in lab environments to build your proficiency.
VLANs and Inter-VLAN Routing
Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) help segment networks into smaller, manageable groups. While configuring VLANs is straightforward, enabling communication between them through inter-VLAN routing can be more complex.
Understanding VLAN tagging (802.1Q), trunk ports, and routing protocols involved in inter-VLAN routing requires practical experience. Setting up VLANs in your lab and testing inter-VLAN traffic will clarify these concepts.
Network Address Translation (NAT)
NAT is essential for connecting private networks to the internet by translating private IP addresses into public ones. Configuring NAT correctly is vital, especially when dealing with dynamic NAT, static NAT, and PAT (Port Address Translation).
Candidates often find NAT confusing because of the different types and the impact on traffic flow. Visualizing how packets change as they move through NAT and practicing configurations will help make this topic more approachable.
IPv6: The New Networking Frontier
IPv6 adoption is growing, and the CCNA exam covers IPv6 addressing, subnetting, and routing. Many learners find IPv6 more complex simply because it’s newer and less familiar compared to IPv4.
IPv6 uses a much larger address space and has different formatting, which takes time to get used to. Focusing on IPv6 fundamentals, practicing subnetting, and understanding transition mechanisms will ease your learning curve.
Spanning Tree Protocol (STP)
Ethernet networks can create loops that cause broadcast storms and network failures. The Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) and its variants like Rapid STP (RSTP) and Multiple STP (MSTP) prevent such loops by managing redundant paths.
STP’s operation involves roles like root bridge, designated ports, and blocking ports, which many candidates find abstract and difficult to visualize. Using topology diagrams and simulation tools can help demystify STP and improve troubleshooting skills.
Wireless Networking
Wireless technologies add another layer of complexity to networking. The CCNA covers wireless standards, security protocols, and troubleshooting.
Understanding encryption types like WPA2 and WPA3, authentication mechanisms, and wireless channel configurations can be tricky for beginners. Setting up wireless labs and experimenting with configurations will build hands-on experience that’s invaluable for both the exam and real-world jobs.
Conclusion
It’s important to remember that difficulty is relative. The topics mentioned above are challenging because they require conceptual clarity and hands-on practice. The key to mastering these areas is persistence, consistent practice, and using a variety of learning resources such as textbooks, video tutorials, and lab simulators.
By focusing extra time and effort on these challenging topics, you’ll build a solid foundation that will serve you well not just for the CCNA exam but for your entire networking career.
If you want, I can recommend some effective subnetting exercises or wireless lab setups that will help you master these tough topics faster. Just ask!

Basic Understanding of Core Switch
Tumblr media
Core switch is designed to meet the most demanding enterprise network requirements such as reliability, high speed, and scalable. It supports the next-generation Ethernet speeds with 10/25 Gigabit Ethernet at the aggregation and 40/100 Gigabit Ethernet to meet the high volume of traffic driving from the edge into the core. This article provides some understanding of core switches.
Tumblr media
What is Core Switch?
A core switch is the network switch installed at the backbone of the layered or hierarchy network. It is routing and data switching at the core layer of the network.
Tumblr media
Three Hierarchical Inter-Networking Design
Three hierarchical inter-networking design consists of core, distribution, and access layers. A core layer switch functions as a backbone switch for LAN\WAN access and centralizes multiple aggregation devices to the core. The distribution layer switch ensures that the packets are routed between subnets and VLANs in networking. The access layer switch facilitates the connection of end-node devices, such as APs and wired devices, to the network.
In these three layers, the core switch requires most highly in the switch performance. Core switch manages high-speed connections, such as 10/ 40G/100G Ethernet.

Benefits of Using Core Switch
High capacity
The core switch has a high capacity, which can meet the needs of data centers and work in the case of a large volume of services.
Large cache
The core switch has distributed cache architecture, which can improve the memory of the device.
Virtualization
The core switch can virtualize the data and convert it into resources that can be managed online.
Applications
Core switch is used in data centers, LAN/MAN/WAN, etc.
