Amazing to see this cultural hub of Berlin being brought to life through an interactive documentary. The Germans are at the forefront of remembering their history. There is so much potential for the same being done across UK cities...

Some of you have expressed an interest in creating some form of interactive documentary. I think you’ll find this a really interesting and useful resource:
COME/IN/DOC - Collaborative Meta Interactive Documentary - is a transmedia meta-documentary that reflects on the interactive documentary. It consists of 3 interconnected parts: a documentary series, a multimedia platform and exhibitions.
This is the result of four years of intensive research (2012-2016) conducting interviews with experts in the field of interactive documentary with the aim of answering a basic question: what is an interactive documentary? From this starting point, the idea is to reflect about this emerging field using different platforms. The project could be described as a “meta-interactive-doc”, an interactive documentary that reflects himself on the new genre trying to answer the questions and hypotheses raised during a period of nearly 10 years of research.

In an attempt towards further embracing multi-linear tracks in doing research and to engage in participatory, co-creative collaboration, I am now working on an Interactive Documentary that allows us to have a little more performative engagement than just being an audience. It also enables the user-interactor to enter into a dialogue with all the material collected during my stay in the Burhwal village (making of Ropani - the film and Digital Burhwal - Collaborative Cultural Archive). Audience will be able to become an active user and will be able to weave their own journey through the documentary film. More soon! #idoc #interactivedoc #webdoc #interactivedocumentary

Prezi
http://prezi.com/fmfqe0m6wt5s/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy&rc=ex0share
Admittedly, not Nick and I’s best work. We usually put out projects that reflect our high standards and strong work ethic. We were under a pretty tight schedule and we both had very limited knowledge on how to use Prezi. It’s not the easiest program to use. We found it really finicky at times and almost too dumbed down, as if it were trying to be too user friendly which limited our creativity.
However, after looking at some of the results of our peers today, I was astonished with how refined and complex some of the projects were. Hindsight is always 20/20 and mine is certainly telling me we could have done a few things differently. For starters, I would have really liked to put some background music in. I think it adds a level of atmosphere to the interactive documentary that can not be achieved by any number of photos/videos/text. I also would have liked to have spent a little more time on the animation and zooming effects.
We did do some stuff right though! I am really proud of the journey that the viewer is taken on and I think the information in our prezi is very relatable to anyone from age 15-30. We go over life events that almost everyone can relate to in some way. Wether falling off your bike resonates with you or your first crush in middle school broke your heart, there is a failure for everyone in our project. I also like how failure at each age is very different and can have differnt consequences while they still all follow the same formula.
FAILURE + CONSEQUENCE = LIFE LESSON LEARNT
(Without a consequence, the failing person cannot possibly learn.)
In a way, this project has been a life lesson for myself. I learnt that you must always try and dig deeper in the project briefs. To me this seemed like a very straight forward brief, perhaps one of the most straight forward briefs yet, and that could have been my biggest mistake. The projects that I liked the most  from my peers were the ones that were the most abstract. One in particular has close to 50 slides and is depicting the journey of an anime characters failures. While that may not seem that abstract, It was certainly something far away from what the briefs suggests!

Interactive Documentary
Leading up to this assignment I guess by going through a few activities with relevance to failure in composition with the fact that they supported our thought process in displaying these events of “failure,” have been quite beneficial.
They have given me insight as to the different perceptions of failure and thus I have a come up with a list of potential ideas that can be further developed:
- Personal failures(Sports, Academic, relationships etc). Under this section I would have a lot to talk about, and after all, because I have firsthand experience in my life failures, I think the ideas would be strong in conveying the different ideas that I would like to. Also with the benefit of hindsight on my own experiences it would allow me to reflect in depth, and also rationalize with my failures and investigate deeper as to “why” the failure happened and “what” sort of outcome(s) occurred as a result.
-Examination of the concept of failure. I think this would be more beneficial for my learning because I would be able to look at other failures that I have not come across and be able to understand this. More research would have to be done in this case because “an examination of failure” could be so broad, but as an advantage I would be able to discuss several aspects of failure and be able to convey the concept of failure on a much larger scale. I do think that this would allow me to discuss the numerous perspectives taken towards failure and in turn enhance our understanding and how we can benefit from failure as a whole.
-Friends failures. This would be a pretty interesting one and it came to mind when a group of my friends started a discussion as to what they were satisfied and also what they felt they were lacking in their lives. I think this something great to analyse because there are aspects of the discussion which I was able to relate to and know that many others would be able to connect with. They had tend to show in their own versions of “failure” the positive progression that lead off from their mistakes, and I think its an incredibly important part of this assignment to show that there is some positive outcome from failure however that we need to embrace it in the right way to allow for a desirable outcome. I think a strong benefit of analyzing someone else failure is that because we have different life experiences, we are obligated to rethink failure - what it means to fail..
-Historic failure. They say that we learn from our mistakes, always in context of the past and to not repeat history. I think historic failure is a great topic with a powerful set of ideas to discuss. This is due to the fact that many people have analysed the failures of our history and learnt from them, and as a result a diversity of opinions can be given on the topic of failure (with relevance to our history).

Christchurch Dilemmas is a new interactive documentary web series from the creators of When a City Falls. Funded by NZ On Air and created with assistance from Radio New Zealand, the six-part series examines the major decisions facing Christchurch 5 years on from the earthquakes that devastated the city.
Christchurch Dilemmas has a strong focus on community engagement and promotes community-led decision making. Housing is also a major issue for Christchurch residents, so keep an eye out for episode 4, which tackles affordable housing (launching at the end of the month).

This interactive documentary is a few years old now, but it set the standard for non-linear storytelling using a range of different media and techniques including live cams, map-based structure, a timeline and fixed duration and use of data.
