hii alice! i'm very slowly trying to teach myself html/css by making a neocities, (what i have so far can be seen here, it's not much i know) and i was just wondering if you had any useful tips/resources? :0 your neocities is very cool (i was reminded by that other person that asked about it yesterday) so i thought i would ask <3 i'm already using mozilla webdocs and w3schools, but do you have any other recommendations?
i don't really know a lot about html/css yet, (i don't have a ton of coding experience, most of what i've done has been in python) and so i don't really know how html/css should be "structured", if that makes sense.
any help or pointers are appreciated! ty in advance <3 peace
Your neocities looks great! Especially for a beginner!
Things to look into:
For learning, I'd recommend learning more about semantic design- w3schools
Also, do some studying up on the box model! this website I found seems to have a lot of good information- box model
I'd also look into CSS classes- w3schools
Also, the fastest way for you to learn coding is to... look at other people's code! Go onto neocities, scroll till you see a page you like, and then inspect element the shit out of it >:3c Even if it doesn't make sense at first to you, looking at a lot of code can help you learn new ways of doing things!
blogs u should take a look at: Drakul78, moonview, twelvemen, and nyaa!
OK so for code analysis:
Overall: I like your website a lot! It's simple, it's cute, and it's functional. These are tips for when you want to "upgrade" your site, but as is, it works great :3c
I like to avoid putting traits other than background onto "body", since it severely limits what you can do with your website. (If you wanted to have multiple boxes on screen, for example, you can't do that...)
Also, the contrast between the background and the text is a little too low for my liking, but your text is nice and large so it's not too much of an issue. If you are going to make your text smaller though, you'll need to change those colors.
You already are using semantic design elements in your website, which is really good! Also, using style.css instead of putting it into the page itself is also really good practice.
Ideas for the future:
This is very subjective, but I feel like you are using your website like someone might use a caard. It's pretty, but each page is static, and links to another static page! You can merge a lot of this information into your index- such as credits/links :3c
FONTS! FONTS! FONTS! there are so many beautiful fonts in this world, and with google fonts, you can easily apply them all to your website!! ( •̀ ω •́ )✧ google fonts
also, since you mentioned you were a coder- I'd recommend setting up a way for you to use vscode to edit your page! One of my friends wrote some git code for me that makes it so I can edit my page without making a billion changes to it in quick succession. I'll ask them if I can share it with you if that would interest you, and I could make a separate post on my visual studio code layout if you are curious :3c

hey ocean did you ever end up making a neocities? I've been meaning to make one too for the longest time and im curious :)
hi xílgaro OKAY so it's very much a work in progress but i do have a very basic site set up. there's still a lot of work to do on it, and i probably wont have time for the next few weeks to do anything with it (i have. exams) but it's here! if you want to check out what i have so far :) if you have specific questions about how i made something, i'd be happy to help out! most of my knowledge has come from mozilla webdocs and w3schools who both have very comprehensive tutorials! mozilla webdocs have really good beginner tutorials which helped me set up things initially in general, and w3schools have very specific tutorials on how to create specific features!
my goals:
make stylised buttons for the other pages, and not just. links.
make a more complex background (i want it to be animated n stuff and not just be. a gradient)
make a site title that's not inside the main body of text
(maybe) make a way to make "posts" (ie, externally post text/images on the site rather than going in to edit the html)
make the main text body area be an interesting shape rather than just a rectangle (i kind of want to make the site have a rainy theme, so maybe the main body could be a cloud?)
anyways! ty for asking hehe <3 if you end up setting up a neocities i'd love to check it out

what are some things you like to do online? what are some youtube channels you like to watch? do you like any webshows or webdocs? do you like any websites to read thinkpieces or articles or blogs? any fun websites? as you can tell i'm very bored and home online often hehe
YouTube Channels:
Contrapoints (if you've been around here for a while, you know she's my favorite)
cyberexboyfriend (generally I watch him more on TikTok, but he does have a YouTube channel as well)
Khadija Mbowe
Mia Mulder
Philosophy Tube
Savannah Brown (she doesn't post a ton anymore but I will drop everything to watch when she does)
Tee Noir
The Purple Palace
Quinton Reviews (if you want to lose like, 27 hours of your life, watch the videos where he reviews iCarly, Victorious, and Sam & Cat. Somehow I don't regret it?)
Other than that, I feel like my online presence is mostly just... writing my own blog here. I spend some time scrolling on Reddit and TikTok, but I don't really have websites or blogs that I read religiously anymore, or even lifestyle content that I consume. I would love recommendations if anyone has any because my online experience has become super boring recently.

So wool has its purposes in apparel (jackets and outwear) but some of us do need a layer between wool and our skin, (gives me a rash also I live in hot climate so my wool coat gets used maybe one month a year)
Wool has a number of uses outside of apparel and that industry is growing
https://www.ers.usda.gov/webdocs/outlooks/37342/32912_ius6e_002.pdf?v=2645.4#:~:text=Apparel%2C%20upholstery%2C%20blankets%2C%20carpeting,are%20made%20out%20of%20wool.
In fact wool in important for bioremediation of toxic sites, errosion control, and other industrial processes
There is work being done to shift some sorting of wool out of yarn processing that sorts into worsted or woolen for yarn especially “skirtings” which provide the coarsest wool, which is often stained and is likely to carry kempy hairs (stiff, unsnippable fibers that will not take a dye). These are better in nonwoven applications which industry can provide.
Now I have to research Kempy Hairs

Buona navigazione https://www.raicultura.it/webdoc/legalita/index.html

The manager. The antagonist I designed for the webdoc I had to do with a few classmates two years ago.
She's definetely my favorite designs out of the three, and the most dynamic in her poses. (Even if James was my favorite character writing-wise)
Alternative poses she has :

hey in the post where you gave website ideas you said to send an ask for coding related ones you had if anyone wanted them. Those sound really interesting for me if you have time to send some?
I don't know if they're gonna be new to you, but I do have a couple!
So there's the most famous one probably: stackoverflow - solves problems. If there's something specific you don't know how to do or you get a weird error message.
I think also it's useful to keep in mind that most, or possibly all, libraries you import from will have documentation or a reference page. Just search it up for each API/library name. Those sites can be fairly useful. If nothing else, you might end up with a more specific question.
And then there's Mozilla webdocs: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web (in the references tab). Some people don't like this one, I've used it a lot
If you want to be taught stuff properly, without knowing what questions to ask at all, w3schools is probably the way to go. They have more languages than I can be bothered to type out, but for example HTML, python and C++. This is free just like all the previous btw.
scrimba also exists, I haven't really used it, but it is based on interactive videos I believe. It costs money depending on you. They have a free plan and two paid ones.
And for finding APIs: rapidapi.com has quite a lot. Some cost money, some are free. Usually you can use something for a bit for free and later it costs money. Spotify also has an API which I think is free, that's what all those spotify statistics websites use (obscurifymusic, spotistats, spotifytools, etc).
Then onto more specifically HTML/CSS related websites: google fonts (free fonts). flexboxfroggy (learn flexbox CSS), pixabay (royalty free images), color.review (check if your color contrast is good enough), wireframing (layouts and stuff, not coding).
And importantly: w3 dot org! There's a lot of info there about accessibility, including guidelines. Take note of this page: web accessibility evaluation tools (websites).
I don't remember what these are, I just found them in my bookmarks: webdesignerwall.com, css zen garden, css-tricks, smashingmagazine.com, kevinpowell.co, rfc-editor.org, coolors.org, caniuse.com .
digital safety frameworks: ISO/IEC 27002:2013 , The 18 CIS Critical Security Controls, NCSC CAF guidance, Cybersecurity Framework | NIST, SP 800-53 – NIST Risk Management Framework | CSRC, Information Security Manual (ISM) | Cyber.gov.au, Federal Office for Information Security (Germany), COBIT | Control Objectives for Information Technologies | ISACA, OWASP Foundation , ITIL | IT Service Management | Axelos
and digital safety laws (obiously check your own countries laws (at least a summary)): General Data Protection Regulation - GDPR, The Directive on security of network and information systems - NIS Directive, EU Cybersecurity Act, Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, Cloud Act Resources
with the laws and frameworks they're most useful if you're not sure, realistically you can't read all of that. But yeah. if you're in the EU or EEA (or expect users from there) you should definetly make sure you understand the basics of the GDPR if you're collecting any data from users that aren't yourself.
This was longer than I expected. This isn't even all that's out there. You might find some stuff on alternativeto.com, articles and web searches too. And also a couple more websites on my neocities, mostly accessibility stuff, not sure if there's anything that's not covered here there though.
[for anyone finding this through tags: I am a queer guy who uses neopronouns and interacting is showing support and appriciation for my queer identity, not just the post.]

hiya :D
i was going to just dm or leave it in a comment, but figured it could be useful for others too!
If you have absolutely 0 knowledge of HTML/CSS, start with layouts and layout makers, and fill in the rest with W3 schools/MDN Webdocs etc. !
sadgrl has a layout maker, a link collection, and a few tutorials
32.bitcafe's resource list is huge and consistently being updated, and features a large list of places with some more layouts!
that is a very base way to start out, but! i would be glad to help out more in any way I can! i dont have a whoooole lot of experience in webmastery, but i have come a long way as far as coding goes
anyone can give me a good intro to neocities?
all the stuff there looks so great and I just want that.
yeah i want
plz
