Holy shit, I was looking for advice for how best to free a sapphire specimen from some matrix that's still stuck to it and I hit the jackpot!
A lapidary forum post from 2004!
And the forum is still active!
Decades of rock-nerd wisdom, in an easily-searchable archive that predates social media.
Tumblr media
Oh yeah, that's the good shit. I'm going to be all over these archives. Here's the link for any other rock-nerds out there:

I’ve always thought about the internet in a hundred years time. As we all know, the internet doesn’t really erase things, and if it can, probably not easily.
What if things get buried so deep there’s a new sub field of archeology? Just doing their thing and digging for memes. Honestly, is this practical? I don’t know. I’m not tech savvy and I’m definitely not an archeologist.

so happy because when I was a silly teenager I could go on tumblr dot com and obsess over famous older guys with other teenagers and now I'm in my twenties I can go on tumblr dot com to obsess over even older guys with other people in their twenties or thirties or forties or whatever. so what I guess I'm trying to say is being here is like growing up together with an unapologetically weird and over-excited childhood friend and I love you all so much
