I had a minecraft dream last night...
This is going to be a long post, but bear eith me, and take the time to read it.
I don't dream about minecraft very often. In fact this might be a first. I'm still in bed while writing this, as im afraid if I wait I'll lose a bunch of the memories.
It involved myself and a few members of the Dream SMP getting sucked into MC. Ironic, I know. Dream, George, Badboyhalo, Tecnoblade, Wilbur Soot, Tommyinnit, and myself. We all looked like our avatars... mostly, and even had some special skills i'll get into later.
To be clear, they were as they are in real life in terms of personality.
I've not watched the dream smp yet... maybe I should start soon. Anyway, side tracked...
The world worked differently than normal MC. It was more realistic, especially the combat and movement. Anything you can do irl you can do here. The drawback was that it made everything harder and more exhausting.
I was dragged in a month before the others, where over the next four weeks, I'd figure out how the lives system works; how difficult movement was; that crafting was nearly the same as normal mc; and how to build.
Five lives. There was a little tracker on the back of your hand, five squares for five lives. Each life you lost, a square would disappear. But it wasnt that simple. Every tine you died you'd feel the affects of the world more. Eating took longer, everything cost more and more realistic amounts of effort, and most importantly... taking damage would actually hurt.
On your first life damage was less of a danger and more of a 'stat' to just be aware of. Getting attacked, shot, exploded next to, ect wasn't too bad. But the more you died the more these things started to get scary. Arrows would tear their way in and ve painful to remove. You'd bleed and have actual wounds that needed care.
By the time the smp members were spawning in, I'd already been reduced to my last life. I was never good at minecraft, though im alright irl with a bow it didnt help much.
You spawn in unconcious. I'd lost my first life that way. I spawned above water. A painless drowning. I hadn't gone back to the ocean since, it scared the fuck out of me.
The first to arrive was Techno. I went back to spawn for the good sheep spawns there. Found him asleep in the grass. He was lucky no creepers had spawned.
Nearly everyone was bigger than me, I'm pretty small, so hauling this guys limp piglin ass all the way to my little safety shack was really hard.
Then Dream and George one after another. Badboy. Tommy... and finally Wilbur.
Wilbur was... a special case. He was a ghost. Just like his ghostbur skin had been. Fully awake, really freaking out. I was near collapsing from taking everyone else to my home, wasnt really much of a comfort, but I at least managed to convince him to come with me after the sun started to dip.
When we got back Wilbur helped me make beds. Couldn't have everyone sleeping propped up against the walls... Wilbur couldn't grab anything, but he could open and close chests. He also found out he could manafest things like his guitar, and a plushie orca. Things that made him a little less anxious. It was nice to hear music again.
I didnt get to talk to him long. We finished the beds, put everyone on one, then I immediatly konked the fuck out over the crafting table.
By the time I woke up, everyone was already awake and talking. The typical suspects. Why are we here, how, what happened, is this even real. You get the picture. I guess usually social anxiety, especially in the presence of people I admire so much, would've been a big stressor but after a month alone in this world I damn near started bawling at the thought of someone else even existing.
I told them all I know. We are stuck here, we have lives, dont fucking lose them it makes the game harder. The physics are just as janky as regular minecraft, mobs are much more articulated, armour actually has weight and at this point I wasnt aware of the little buffs everyone had to a particular skill.
Dream was incredibly good at exploiting the game's wonky system and parkouring, even of he couldnt nessesarily do it irl.
Techno was suddenly extremely knowledgeable about combat and could handle most weapons effectively. He was also a piglin-type guy which made him immune to fire.
George's coding skills translated directly into redstone knowledge, letting him build ridiculous machines with enough respources.
Tommy had incredible luck with loot and generally got good enchants.
And Bad was, thanks to his skin, some form of demonic entity and would be completely ignored by most hostile mobs.
Wilbur, as you know, was a ghost who could phase through anything and summon ghostly items.
We didn't find out everyone's special trait immediatly, of course. It happened over many days of trail and error trying to collect resources, build, and have fun.
Turns out my skill was useless by myself, hence why I never found it before they arrived. Anything I gave to another person was twice as effective. Healing items helped more, food would fill them on smaller portions, armour would get a free temporary enchant depending on what they needed.
I'd never liked playing minecraft alone.
I'm losing some of the dream, I shoukd wtite some bullet points down or this post will be miles long.
Tommy accidently befriended a wolf, he named it Wilbur to mess with Wilbur. We had two Wilburs.
Bad was constantly driven up the wall by peoples language but truly was using it as a coping mechanism early on because he was afraid of being stuck here forever. We made sure to swear occasionally so he'd get the oportunity to yell at us.
Techno lost his first life when a creeper blast threw him directly into Dream's sword.
Dream never got over it.
Wilbur started making more songs and even made a few targetted at the groups adventures.
Wilbur descovered if he goes into the floor he cant tell which was is up, this terrified him, he never went underground again.
George made automatic farms and eventually even non-minecraft typical things like a morning alarm clock, a compass that pointed to the nearest village, and invented new armour that was more lightweight but still protective.
Wilbur the wolf regularly barked at and mauled giant spiders before they got anywhere near the house, much to literally everyone's relief.
Bad learned how to read and write enchanting table symbols.
I taught Dream how to repair his clothes and in return he showed me how to build traps.
Techno learned he could talk hoglin, piglin, and villager.
Bad learned he could stare at endermen and mistakingly assumed everyone could so he told everyone else its ok to do so.
Tommy lost his first life to an enderman.
Wilbur worked with george for a whole week on special gloves that would let him touch stuff.
I took an arrow dangerously close to the lungs after Tomny's first respawn trying to bring him home.
Dream realised he couldn't take off his mask and wished he could see the world normally again, nobody knew what his vision was like.
Bad descovered a joy for cooking.
Bad also tamed a cat and named it Muffin.
Muffin the cat would ride Wilbur the wolf around.
Dream lost his first life to hunger after pushing himself for too long.
Techno took a wrong step in the neather and lost his second life to a seriously long fall.
I never knew what I looked like...
Tommy lost his second life being overrun by zombies without a weapon. We made a rule to never leave the house alone after this many deaths.
Bad descovered pretty late that milk is poisonous to him and thus cakes will kill him. He lost a life to cake. He was devastated.
Tommy built a cute campfire. He and Wilbur would mess around singing at it. Wolf Wilbur thoroughly enjoyed this.
I would stay up most of the night watching everyone sleep because I worried the house could get invaded or surrounded. They found out after Phantoms started spawning and made a rule that at least one of then would stay awake at night to make me feel better.
George built Dream an obstacle course with lots of moving parts and such. He ran it every morning.
I learned how to play guitar from Wilbur at the campfire.
Torches never burnt out after they arrived. No idea why.
That's all I can remember...
It was a hard dream, I was sad and angry sometimes... but the happy moments made it worth it.
I hope I return to that dream someday.

Thoughts on the Snyder Cut Chapter 3 of 6
So the famous Barry Allen saving Iris West scene is added back in, but also features the kind of slightly awkward comedy you’d expect of a Whedon script. Also, the dude driving the truck due to crash into Iris seriously got a burger from “burger shop” like fucking try a little bit, guys.
God he looks so weird doing his little half-run out of the shop to save her and unnecessarily spends 5 hours brushing her hair aside. I did appreciate the very unique take on super-speed though compared to say, Quicksilver from X-men. There’s an incredible delicateness about how he manoeuvres himself and Iris which is interesting to see, however, the sequence adds little besides that “Barry is a doer of good” which we already knew from the CCTV footage in BVS*.
We then have ‘wolf gathering some Atlanteans for interrogation, after the stock “we will never betray Atlantis!” statement, he uses a weird spider robot to scan the guy’s brain or something and show him the location. The film would have been better without this scene, it - again - adds little and even beginning to think about how the fuck the mind projector spider would even work will distract the audience for at least the next five minutes.
Another scene of Lois Lane grieving. We had one added earlier in the film but I forgot to mention it because of just how inconsequential it was. God bless Amy Adams because she is clearly giving it her all but I’m not sure “Lois Lane grieving widow” is a much better look than “Lois Lane world’s thirstiest woman”, both undermine and neglect her as a character in her own right and I just hope the Snyder cut doesn’t have her just be a prop to satiate Superman’s rage like Josstice League.
Back to Bruce and Diana, the latter now seems more proactive in helping Bruce search for the other supers, which is good. It also gives nod to Diana knowing the history of Amazons and Atlanteans. There is some sarcastic banter exchanged and some awkward accidental hand touching (are we sure this isn’t Josstice League?) *The aforementioned footage now plays out in full again here in case anyone watching this hadn’t seen BvS... this feels like an odd move. I could sort of understand it for cinemagoers who hadn’t seen BvS, but the Snyder Cut is so slavishly made for fans of Snyder’s work in the DCEU that it seems odd to repeat it here with colour commentary from Bruce and Diana.
Cut to Victor Stone sadly watching kids play football and then flashback to his own football career which, credit where it’s due, is beautifully shot, looking straight out of 300 if it weren’t for the football gear. It also tips the hat to Victor having some hacking know-how prior to his Cyborg transformation, using it to help his friend’s grades - a move that is not merely standard high school hijinks, but done out of a sense of social justice and points to inequality within the school system. Much as this is another diversion that adds little, it is worthwhile and introduces some much needed nuance into the character of Victor and the world of Justice League as a whole. Snyder has a tendency to be heavy handed, but he does occasionally touch on issues which have weight and whether purposefully or not, his small-scale interaction with them makes them feel that much more real and ingrained in the world. Things like the Gotham PD largely ignoring their jobs to watch the game, the disabled Wayne Enterprises employee struggling to make ends meet, angry at the world, how different social classes view Batman’s actions.
I digress, the sequence also puts Victor’s mother back into the picture and helps embed the kind of relationship Vic has with his father. Said mother is then unceremoniously killed in a car crash, diverging slightly from the otherwise somewhat faithful recreation of “Justice League: Origins” from the new 52 relaunch. This recontextualises Silas’ decision to apply the motherbox to his son as a rather more selfish act than in the comic, where it was ostensibly to undo a mistake he had made (or rather, undo the fallout of something he was working on). Clearly Victor agrees with this reading, as in the following montage we see Silas explain the extent of his powers as he uses them to fly, test his cyber control and finally grant a single mother a boon of $100,000 to keep her from becoming homeless. After this, Silas states “all this has been as a scientist, I would now like to talk to you as your father” upon which Victor simply crushes the recorder the message was playing on. Curiously the tape recorder was a literal tape recorder rather than digital and while it’s entirely possible that’s just an accident, it could also be that Silas knew any digital recorder would immediately be within Victor’s purview and thereby he would have no choice but to hear the message. In giving him an analogue tape recorder that choice was put back in his hands. This has been perhaps the most worthwhile addition so far, fleshing out Victor and his dynamic with his father, as well as a better explanation of his powers, perhaps making him one of the strongest members of the League.
Bruce visits Barry, an exchange largely unchanged save for the thankful excision of the “brunch” dialogue which, while I never had a huge problem with it, was awkward to watch.
There’s a rather fun exchange between Alfred and Diana (generally a lot more Alfred in the Snyder cut in general actually) where he lectures her on how best to make tea and she sassily implies that Bruce is basically building her gauntlets only bat-themed. A throwaway scene but there’s fun chemistry here with Alfred ultimately bringing her tea when distracted, despite her assertion she’d make it herself. It segues into Victor and Diana’s first meeting, Diana’s dialogue seems unchanged but Cyborg’s dialogue is a little angrier; he also flies in in full Cyborg mode rather than stepping out in a hoodie. I’m not sure I like the alteration, it’s less subtle and doesn’t really change the tone of the scene. We then see Vic bury the motherbox in his own grave followed by a useless scene with Silas and Ryan Choi looking at a hunk of metal being super hot, with Choi then making another Whedonesque joke about that being what he said to his prom date. To be fair though, I keep saying Whedonesque at any bad jokes, but I have to remember Man of Steel had “I just think he’s kinda hot” scene which gave me immense secondhand embarrassment.
We are now back to your regularly scheduled programming with the film mostly returning to playing out how Josstice League did: Jim Gordon is introduced, the bat signal shines, the Atlantean motherbox is stolen (albeit with added violence and additional Amber Heard). The extension does make the scene flow better for sure, though I question if the blood and bissecting is necessary.
It is now the halfway point and basically the full length of Josstice League has passed. I have to say, while there are certainly some improvements, I would by no means call this a definitive version, it absolutely needs significant editing to be a watchable movie, I feel like we’ve barely gotten anywhere and the small scraps of nuance gleaned from this version are not worth doubling the runtime. So far it does seem to have excised the weird Russian family cutaway scenes which is only a good thing, but little added has provided enough value to warrant this undertaking so far. Hopefully there’s enough in the latter half to assuage this feeling but so far it just feels like an exercise in directorial onanism.

Nothing like the present
Wizarding World AU please? Famous tattoo artist Bucky is doing his best to keep his secrets safe. The first being he is madly in love with Tony the baker in the little steampunk bakery across the street, who sings beautifully when he thinks no one is listening. The second being he's a wizard. Who may sometimes do magical tattoos for the magicking community. Little does Bucky know is that Tony is also a wizard who happens to be a very startling animagi. Please and thank you?
A/N: There is a lot going on in this prompt and I didn’t manage to fit everything in. I hope the prompter doesn’t mind.
Click here if you want to see what kind of animal Tony’s animagus is.
Chapter 1 /2 (on AO3 )
The harbingers of spring were already coming to the small town of Rosendale in upstate New York but the nights in early March were still icy cold and Tony felt like his paws were about to turn into ice clumps as he traversed the street and hopped gracefully on top of a garbage container. It was time's likes these that he wished his animagus would have taken a more cold-resistant form, something with thicker fur under his paws to protect his sensitive toe beans. ‘Toe beans’, Tony snorted - a weird sound when done as a cat - muggles and their memes. He didn’t know where that thought had come from and he pushed it aside, cold paws or not, he was on a mission.
Bucky Barnes’ birthday was on the 16th and Tony needed a present, a good one, a great one, a spectacular one even.
And he only had 10 days left.
Bucky was Tony’s neighbor who owned the small but popular tattoo parlor across the street from Tony’s bakery. Tall, dark, broody turning into shy once you got to know him and incredibly handsome with long brown hair and silvery eyes Tony could get lost in. Scratch that, had gotten lost in. Tony was utterly in love with his sweet and caring neighbor, had been since he had first heard Bucky laugh and those silver eyes had lit up with mirth. Unfortunately, it was a sound that was rarely heard in the town of Rosendale and Tony wanted to change that.
Unfortunate was also that fact that Bucky was a muggle and so Tony couldn’t just invite him into his bakery and put on a magic show, dish up some of Bucky’s favorite baked sweets for him on his birthday and make it a grand event with a cake that baked itself as the main course. He had to find a muggle present.
Maybe it was just the way Tony’s brain worked or maybe Bucky wasn’t just shy but also secretive but even though they’ve known each other for months now and talked almost daily, he couldn’t remember Bucky mentioning one thing that he liked, no hobbies, no TV shows, books, sports, all these muggle things that Tony knew off (and he knew a lot, partially due to the fact that he lived as the only wizard alone in a muggle town and you tended to stick out like a sore thumb if you didn’t know what the Super Bowl or an iPhone was and partially due to, well, being Tony and being naturally curious about absolutely everything).
So here Tony was, trying to figure out what hobbies Bucky had by sneaking into his house in his animagus form because who gets mad at a kitty walking around your house, right? It’s what cats do after all.
He spotted a small basement window that was maybe a foot tall and not much wider, certainly not big enough to fit an adult human through, but cat Tony would certainly fit and as luck would have it, the window was slightly ajar. Eager to get out of the cold and into the house Tony wasted no time to stick his head through the gap and wriggling the rest of his body after it, thanking evolution for the lack of collarbones. Gravity seemed to work differently for cats as well because he landed lightly on his feet on some dusty surface but that’s where his luck ended.
A subconscious flick of a tail and something tumbled to the ground producing a deafening crash and not a moment later the room was suddenly flooded with light and Bucky was standing in front of him.
Pointing a wand at him. —— Bucky had just finished his talk with Steve at the fireplace, one of the reasons he had never wanted a fireplace when moving to Rosendale in the first place. The thought of Steve or any of his other wizard friends trying to take the bus or -god forbid- an Uber to his place had convinced him, however. Anything to keep his friends away from the general Muggle population, or else he’d had to move again, and he didn’t want that, not after he had finally managed to settle. So Bucky put up with the calls and the occasional visit having a fireplace brought with it and it did have a few advantages. If he really needed to go to a wizarding shop he could do so easily and the few magical customers that wanted a tattoo from him had it easier as well.
Now he was getting ready for bed, massaging his left shoulder before throwing back the covers. Talking to Steve was exhausting, not as much physically - though sitting on the ground in front of the fireplace was getting to him too - it was the mental exertion that drained Bucky’s energy. Steve rarely showed interest in Bucky’s day to day life, his work or the friends he’s made in town, or his recent fame on Instagram. (”Instagram? Is that one of these weird metric measurements those Europeans use?” Steve had asked him when he had mentioned it, but what could you expect of a guy who thought muggles were only able to produce smartphones because they had imprisoned a wizard or witch somewhere.) It’s always the past for Steve, stories from before when they had both been Aurors, before Hydra.
Bucky shook his head, trying to clear the thoughts out of his head lest they turn into nightmares again.
When he heard the crash all of that was instantly forgotten as he apparated into the cellar to face the intruder. —— Tony blinked against the harsh lights and almost missed how Bucky put the wand away. It happened so fast that Tony wasn't even sure Bucky had been holding a wand at all. One moment he was moving his right hand like he was about to put his wand in his left sleeve, like lots of wizards and witches do, and the next moment it's gone. Except, Bucky isn't wearing a robe or anything with sleeves for that matter. Bucky was wearing a tank top that was showing of previously unknown tattoos on Bucky's shoulders and revealing the whole expanse of Bucky's muscular arms to Tony.
"It's just a fucking cat, Barnes, get it together." Bucky cursed and pushed his hair back with one hand, visibly shaken. He stood still for a moment, just breathing and staring at the floor, his eyes betraying the internal struggle his mind was fighting. Tony didn't even dare to flick his tail. After a while, he looked up and eyed Tony and then the open window above him.
"You squeezed through that, huh?" Bucky shook his head in amazement. "Were you looking for someplace warm? You don't look like you are made for the cold, you're someone's pet, huh? You're a graceful thing, though, quite adorable." Bucky took a step closer and before Tony knew it his cat instincts made him jump off the table and away from Bucky. The rational side of his brain protested once it had realized the mistake. Being petted by Bucky would have been amazing.
"Woah, didn't mean to scare you. Just wanted to open up the window a bit more so you could get back out again if you want to." Bucky didn't come any closer, instead, he rested his chin in one hand and his elbow in his other and put on an adorable thinking face. The one he often wore when Tony went on a rambling streak too fast to follow. That face did things to Tony, plus that pose put Bucky's biceps on display like Tony would a particularly fancy cake in his bakery window.
Tony started to drool.
Literally.
It was a cat thing, nobody could blame him for that, but he did wonder why Bucky didn't wear sleeveless tops more often. It was a delicious sight. "You should probably stay indoor anyway in this weather. Don't want you freezing to death somewhere. This your first time outside?" Bucky looked at Tony like he was about to answer him then shrugged. "Probably better you found your way inside then..." He trailed off and looked around the room at the various shelves and cupboards. " I gotta have a box for you around here somewhere. You can hang out with me tonight and then I'll make some calls in the morning, see if anybody's missing you." Bucky walked over to an old antique wardrobe and stretched to get one of the boxes off the top, giving Tony a good view of his back. He noticed a fine silver line running across Bucky’s left shoulder that he hadn’t seen when he had been ogling Bucky’s biceps. Some kind of scar he reckoned, it looked unusual though as it appeared to be shimmering as Bucky moved about.
The most striking feature of Bucky’s back, however, wasn’t his muscles, despite being quite impressive, it was a tattoo that stretched over Bucky’s back and right shoulder. It was partially obscured by his tanktop but nevertheless, it was clear what it portrayed.
A white wolf howling at the moon.
Tony was mesmerized. It was so detailed it looked almost real.
If he weren’t in his cat form Tony would feel bad for staring but right now he was just enjoying the sight, memorizing every little detail as Bucky moved about and peered into boxes.
Bucky had never mentioned liking wolfs so it came as a surprise to see him having such a big tattoo of one on his back. It stood in stark contrast to his other tats which were mostly small and kept almost exclusively in black ink, like the scrawly handwriting on the inside of his right wrist that read “Till the end of the line” or the black widow spider dangling on a string on the inside of his elbow. Not to mention the tattoo sleeve that covered his left arm in gears and metal plates, while those also looked realistic and well done it was nothing compared to the wolf on Bucky’s back.
Tony decided to get a better look and sneak a little closer. To not make it too obvious that he was watching Bucky and that he wasn’t quite a normal cat, he padded around the room in a circle. He stuck his head into a few things to add to the illusion (and damn those cat instincts) and suddenly he couldn’t shake the feeling that he was being watched.
He glanced back to Bucky but the man had a box in his hand and was staring into it, mumbling something to himself before he closed the box back up and put it back on the wardrobe and took down another one. Bucky really was taking this box things serious but Tony did love a good box when he was a cat so he appreciated the effort.
But if Bucky wasn’t looking at him, why were was the fur on his back standing on edge? Tony was starting to get creeped out and that’s when he noticed it.
It was the wolf.
The wolf was looking at him. The wolf - the wolf tattoo was looking at him. He could have sworn the wolf had been howling at the moon. Tony seriously started to doubt his sanity right about now and wondered if he had drunk any hallucinogenic potions lately that still had an effect on him, but he had sworn off that stuff after he had accidentally turned Rhodey into a platypus while at the Academy and it had taken the headmaster and three high-ranking wizards from the Agency of Magical Mishaps two weeks to figure out how to turn him back. That couldn’t be it.
Except then the wolf tilted his head and regarded him curiously and yeah, the tattoo is actually moving. Of course, it is. It's not the first moving tattoo Tony has ever seen, he was a wizard for fuck's sake, and then it finally clicked in Tony's head.
Bucky had a magical tattoo. Bucky was a wizard.
BUCKY WAS A WIZARD! His mind was screaming at him. It hadn't been his imagination then earlier, Bucky really had had a wand. This was like winning the lottery as the muggles would say and he wasn't even consciously initiating the shift or thinking about any consequences. All he was thinking about was how he didn't have to keep his biggest secret from his best friend and secret crush and then —
"STUPEFY!"

21 + 15 + 8!
asdfghjkl rose thank you for asking ♥️ this ended up coming out incredibly long, so i apologize in advance!
8) where do you take your inspiration from?
surprising! mostly from visual media, actually. graphics, art, moodboards, films, tv series, that kind of stuff. occasionally, music, and even more rarely, written media (fics, books, poems, similar). that’s for when i’m starting to get ideas. when i already have something written or ideas developed a bit more, then i have a moodboard on pinterest and a playlist on spotify, or i watch something that has the same mood/theme as the thing i’m writing.
15) if you write oc’s, how do you decide on their names?
i don’t usually write oc’s for fics, but i do them for my original stuff. the names depend on the characters’ background and location, but they all have a name that either sounds specific to their character or who they’re supposed to be, or the meaning is very connected.
in other cases, most of the time, i just go ‘woah this sounds cool’ or sometimes i build a whole character because of their name and subsequently the whole story.
21  tell me about another writer(s) who you admire? what is it about them that you admire?
i love this question!! let me give my favourite fic writers a shoutout, even though i’m probably missing some too!! it’s really long but honestly these people worked hard and they really deserve it
@grumpybell‘s ideas are absolutely brilliant. i’m a huge fan. the stories themselves, the plots would be enough for me to have a whole paragraph about, but for me, the characters are where it’s at. well-developed, very true to the canon but also to the universe the fic is set in, but also very well-rounded and overall realistic. the fics just flow really nice, honestly, and i could read them for eternity.
fic shoutout: oh darling, here’s hoping god i remember reading this red riding hood au and just... falling in love. i did. i fell in love with bellamy as the wolf and clarke’s desperation to save him, and the new take on the fairy tale, it was just absolute perfection. i keep coming to it every once in a while, honestly. it’s just magic.
@asroarke is one of those people who are just integrated into a fandom’s fanfiction. imagining t100 fanfiction with asroarke is like... imagining the sky without the stars. i think those fics were the first ones i read when i joined the fandom, and i remember one of the things i thought was how easy it was to read. everything flowed as if there was no effort needed, as if the words have always been there, just plucked and placed on a blank document. and the consistency, honestly, damn. these fics are better than probably more than half of published stuff i’ve read.
fic shoutout: drag me down. look there’s a pattern here and it’s the mythical/legends/fairy tale aus. i present you with a retelling of little mermaid in the most beautiful, soul-wrenching way. i waited every single chapter for when i came out. i read it as soon as i saw it came out, even if i was in the middle of grabbing coffee with a friend. honestly everything by asroarke is absolutely fantastic.
@blvke-bellamy okay look. when i saw may is just 15 i nearly fell off my chair. i’d kill to have that talent at 15. i would. look, i keep saying look, because i’m shook. but honestly, may’s characterization is brilliant. she took my faves from the 100 and managed to insert them into a different universe, and they feel so much like the original characters and not at all. the dynamics between them are so raw and so pure and so believable i cried at one particular scene in her fic. or it might be two scenes. and look, this is impressive on its own, and then knowing she’s just 15...god.
fic shoutout: step into the sun is a bellarke tangled au and honestly. i’m a slut for tangled. it’s so damn good. and this fic?? inspired by tangled?? absolutely brilliant. marvelous. 11/10. brought my fish to life. and honestly murphy is my favourite in the fic, literally one of my favourite portrayals of him in every fic i’ve ever read. i binged this. i lost sleep over this. no ragrets.
@pawprinterfanfic (i’m biased but. in top 3 fic writers ever. and i’ve been in a lot of popular fandoms.) paw manages to take a universe and make it hers. paw manages to create a universe out of nothing and make it feel more realistic than my own life. and honestly, i am reading her hunger games au right now and it’s amazing, but the best part is that i’m also reading the harry potter au which is even better and although both are masterpieces, i can see the improvement. the development of the characters, the amount of effort in planning and mapping things out, it’s marvellous. her fics just speak to me on a different level, it feels as if i’m experiencing them myself rather than reading them, and what i’m mostly in awe of is how immersed i am in those fics, especially the newer ones. i feel like it’s a rare skill to have.
fic shoutout: starry eyes and galaxy minds (we’ll be dancing on the clouds at night) which is a spider-man au, and honestly, i cried. it’s beautiful. it’s a masterpiece. but so is literally every single one of paw’s stories, so it was a really difficult choice. the harry potter one? j k rowling wishes she wrote it.
skai_heda (i don’t know their tumblr please someone help me find it). where do i begin. honestly. when i started reading the fic i put below, i was mesmerised by the writing style. it was partly in second pov which i’d usually refuse to read, but this writing style is something that belongs to gods. the characterization is amazing, it manages to fix some of the stuff in canon without actually changing it. everything just comes together naturally, and i always feel so satisfied when reading their fics. plus, the writing style again, especially in the fic below, is flawless. some people can create magic with their words, and i’m convinced i’ve just found one.
fic shoutout: everything that comes after deserves so much!! more!! attention!!! i remember reading the first two chapters and just being like...wooow. i was starstruck. i left a long ass comment. it’s so unique and so beautiful. it’s the only fic on this list written in the canon universe, and it’s one of my favourites i’ve ever read about the canon universe. it hurts. it makes you cry, and ache, and understand, and smack your head because you just want people to be happy. if i could pocket the way this fic made me feel, i would always keep it with me. (a little frustration, but a whole lotta love.)
give me a number and i’ll answer questions about writing fanfiction
just in case you’d like to see the same questions answered for non-fanfiction/non-fanfiction influence, see below!
15) if you write oc’s, how do you decide on their names?
specific example of mentioned above - a wip about teenagers who come from a rich side of town and a poor side. there’s posh names, like cedric, declan, byron and gregory, for people who are supposed to represent the posh, stuck-up class; hadley, tessa, abigail, kate for privileged people who are the ‘good guys’; and luca, oliver, han, freddie, who are from the poor side. it’s very classist so it was very important that the names represent the characters. usually, i go for the “vibe” of the name over the meaning, to be honest.
21  tell me about another writer(s) who you admire? what is it about them that you admire?
i love this question!!
fiction: maggie stiefvater, because her raven cycle series genuinely feels like magic when i read it. the characters are brilliant. erin morgenstern, who wrote the night circus, because that novel also feels like magic. donna tart’s the secret history feels as if you’re reading a secret and the storytelling sort of reminds me of f. scott fitzgerald’s the great gatsby in a way i can’t really describe. she creates a beautiful, magnificent atmosphere and you know what the characters are doing is wrong, but you completely understand them and it makes me, as a reader, question my own moral standards. madeline miller’s the song of achilles is a beautifully written masterpiece that made me fall in love with mythology, legends and history all over again. the way she develops the characters and retells the story i’ve heard a million times is so poetic and beautiful it just resonates with me on a different level. and finally, leigh bardugo with her six of crows series that again, makes me question my morals, but shows the friendship and loyalty between people in a beautiful way. it also shows a romance that i think is one of best written i’ve read, up there for me romances from the novels/series i’ve already mentioned.
there’s a pattern - storytelling and character-building that feels almost otherworldly, very focused on emotions and character development. basically, stories that you feel like as if they were made into films without proper, detailed development, wouldn’t translate well enough to bring the world to the screen. and romances incredibly well-developed over time, that go beyond just being romances and actually show a beautiful connection.
special mention of these directors, as they have a huge influence on my writing: christopher nolan, john krasinski, quentin tarantino, m night shyamalan, steven knight, guillermo del toro, alfred hitchcock, for their storytelling and character building. also, some of these are for the suspense that seems to come naturally. i know most of these are very popular directors, but they’re popular for a reason. i could literally write an essay on each of these people, honestly. my writing is very inspired by motion pictures, i most often look up to how these directors approached some things that i have in my writing, especially themes. (this could literally be a whole essay on its own)

Ok while I am technically doing things when doing laundry and setting up the laptop, both activities have a TON of down time. So I also went downstairs and cleared off one of the remaining two book cases that need backs and painted.
Basement bugs drive me nuts. I vacced up 5 new ones and three of them were still alive.
But I have gotten a pretty decent idea of what the bug population is like down there.
house centipedes - That Guy is always confused when I capture one that’s made it’s way upstairs and take it back to the basement instead of killing it or tossing it outside. Eat bad things, please.
ground beetles - Annoying, big, intimidating, but also eat bad things. Indicative of an entry from outside around the foundation somewhere. I’m pretty sure I know where. Same place that little birdy got in, I bet.
wolf spiders - Venomous but timid, also eat bad things. I’m seeing a trend, here.
broad faced sac spiders - Usually seen as discarded moltings.
And what are the bad things they’re eating? Well, other than each other, the occasional ant invasion (ugggh go AWAY) and carpet beetles, mostly.
The previous owners decided not to inform us of the carpet beetle infestation, and we’ve been fighting them off ever since. It’s one reason I’d like to get rid of all of the carpets. Fewer places for them and their eggs to hide.
I’d very much like to rip out the carpets in the master bedroom and closet and replace that with vinyl plank flooring but that’s 100% not a job I can do myself. I can’t move the furniture.

As requested, here’s my quick notes on each of THE GIFTENING finalists. Mostly (theoretically, but it IS me) just “haven’t seen this”, “saw this and loved/didn’t like this”, stuff like that. I’ll try not to get into too much while still being honest, as I don’t want to impact the voting more than necessary.
Under the cut for those who’d rather not!
ANIME
A Place Further Than The Universe: Never heard of it, I know literally nothing beyond it’s an anime, and has a lot of words in the title.
Aggretsuko: Never seen it, though I know the main character is a VERY angry red panda.
Azumanga Daioh: I have absolutely no idea what this is about, though I’m pretty sure it’s just part of this general anime milieu that is a fact of life on my Tumblr dash. Maybe it involves a two-toned fanged bear? I DUNNO
Card Captor Sakura: I did this for THE GIFTENING 2016, and really didn’t care for it much.
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood: I did this for THE GIFTENING last year and really enjoyed it.
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun: All I know of this is that it’s been a strong contender in THE GIFTENING every single year.
Magic Knight Rayearth: I watched all of this waaaaay way back in the day. I remember Umi. I think the other two were Fuu and Hikaru? I wanted to punch the marshmallow bunny thing in the face.
Ouran High School Host Club: Hubby watched this and liked it. I think it’s the Kiss Kiss Fall In Love thing from the memes and there’s something about vase smashing, leading me to assume the main character is Link from the Zelda games.
Princess Tutu: I first did this for THE GIFTENING 2016 and have since had it voted in occasionally on my Patreon. I really like it.
Revolutionary Girl Utena: Has appeared in the past two GIFTENINGS, and has also been voted in on my Patreon from time to time. It’s crackerballs and delightful.
Sweetness and Lightning: A wildcard in last year’s GIFTENING and a surprise joy. I’ve seen no more since.
NON-ANIME
Batman: The Animated Series: I’ve seen the odd one or two episodes and thought they were pretty good.
Gargoyles: I watched the first four or five when Doc streamed them. I wasn’t super impressed.
Gravity Falls: Consistently voted as my Patreon liveblog and I’m super into it.
Over the Garden Wall: I liveblogged the first few eps for my Patreon, then watched the rest on my own and enjoyed it.
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power: I’ve seen the whole series and love it.
Teen Titans (2003): The Titans is one of my favourite DC books and while I haven’t watched the whole series, I did enjoy it when it was airing (and I could catch it).
X-Men Evolution: The X-Men is my all-time favourite superhero team, and Evolution is one of my favourite incarnations of them.
LIVE ACTION
A Series of Unfortunate Events: I’ve read (or, rather, Holligay’s read to me on road trips) the first four or five books. I’ve seen a song from one of the episodes. I know Mr. Trick plays Mr. Poe and that’s cool.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: I watched the first couple episodes for last year’s GIFTENING, and while I enjoyed it, I found liveblogging it difficult.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: One of my life’s major fandoms. Things got difficult for me (THANKS JOSS), but if it’s voted through, it won’t be a problem.
Galavant: #jet wolf watches galavant
Golden Girls: Loved it when I was little, did a complete rewatch a couple years ago and found it mostly holds up.
Great British Bake-Off: Fun show, love to watch it, dead to me without Mary, Mel, and Sue.
Leverage: I watched the first few episodes a bunch of years ago and liked it but probably got distracted by something shiny and never went back. I know Tumblr fucking loves it.
Orphan Black: Only just started watching courtesy of @skylineofspace but really like what I’ve seen so far.
Pushing Daisies: Heard of it, never watched, don’t think I even know the premise. Something about undoing death?
The Good Place: Part of last year’s THE GIFTENING and a rare sitcom that works for liveblogging. I’ve since seen all of S2. I absolutely cannot with the romantic turn for Eleanor and Chidi and it’s about sucked all interest out of me for S3, about which I am deeply bitter.
Twilight Zone: Often brilliant, many episodes I’ve not seen/don’t remember.
Xena: DOES ANYONE LOVE XENA AS MUCH AS ME I DUNNO I DOUBT IT (sorry that was lacking in every drop of chill but come on)
MOVIES
Black Panther: Saw it, thought it was great.
Clue: One of my favourite movies when I was little and I still kind of love it.
Coraline: Never saw it, never read the book.
Kiki’s Delivery Service: Haven’t seen it, and should note I’ve not really enjoyed the previous Miyazaki movies I’ve streamed.
Legally Blonde: Haven’t seen it
Madoka Rebellion: Haven’t seen it, have not heard kind things said of it on the Tumbles.
Moana: Didn’t see it, and something being Disney doesn’t automatically carry any particular emotions for me.
Ocean’s Eight: Haven’t seen it but wanted to.
Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse: I haven’t seen it, though Mike and Jill did and loved it. If this wins, please note that I will not pirate the movie for streaming, so it’ll be, like, me going to the movie theater and then chatting about it afterward or something.
The Last Unicorn: I did this last year for THE GIFTENING. I didn’t like the movie much, but the stream was a ton of fun.
The Mummy: Saw this for the first time last week, I think it was, and enjoyed it.
The Princess Bride: Don’t like it. Really really don’t like it. I’ve watched this multiple times to try and figure out what I’m missing. I still have no answers.
Thor: Ragnarok: Saw it, thought it was marvelous.
Wonder Woman: Did this for last year’s GIFTENING and thought it was okay. I’ve since seen it again and enjoyed it more the second time.
I’m not sure games or miscellaneous needs any thoughts from me, but if you think they’d be helpful, just say and I’ll do my best. Speaking of helpful, I hope you found this worthwhile too! Next year, I’ll see about doing something similar to this maybe around the second heat, when we’ve managed to cut down the nomination lists significantly, but before getting right near the end.
Also, next year for movies, I think I’ll automatically trim out anything that hasn’t yet been released on DVD or streaming, just eliminate that potential conflict before it even starts.
You guys still have over two whole days to cast your votes SO GET TO IT

For the ‘if they had a kid meme’- Parker/Dante and Carter/Giu
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Parker/Dante
Name: Aurelia Carleen Jenson, usually goes by “Lia.”
(In addition to being a silly in-joke for me personally—Dante’s FC has a song of the same name, “Aurelia” means “light,” is the name of multiple saints, and is an “A” name for Dante’s mom Ana and Carter’s step-grandma Alessia. “Carleen” is a reference to Kieran, Carter, and Caroline)
Gender: Female
Appearance: A slightly chubbier version of her parents. Has been told that she resembles a Cabbage Patch Kid and she owns it. Wants the confidence to dress like her “aunties” Rae and Amy, but for the current moment, mostly wears a lot of flowy tunics with leggings.
Personality: The sort of hippie nerd who listens to Celtic folk music, makes her own leather armor for LARPing, is obsessed with dragons and wolves, and worships Tolkien. Has a wolf fursona but isn’t a full-on furry. Delights in the fact that she’s part fae and has embraced that aspect of her heritage most.
In terms of the more individualized personality traits, she has a lot of her mother’s more introverted anxiety, which, filtered through her father’s nurturing instincts, makes her the ultimate mom friend, but also makes her worry more than she really should. She’s fun and friendly on the whole, but also really needs her alone time or else she can get a little snippy. As an only child born to two people who sort of glommed onto their siblings for much of their lives, this is a little difficult for her to explain to her parents. As a general rule, she’s at her best when she’s around people who share her interests. She gets very excited whenever her grandpa Kieran offers to teach her about her heritage (Celtic, fae, or both.)
Special talents: Naturally musical, plays the harp and flute. Has always had a rapport with animals—even though she can’t read their thoughts, generally has a pretty good sense of of what they’re thinking. Doesn’t have any particularly dramatic magic or power as far as she knows, but there’s time yet.
Who they like better: it depends on the current moment. She likes her mom better when her dad refuses to stop making terrible dad jokes and she likes her dad better when her mom gets all angsty and grumpy. They’re both a constant source of embarrassment.
Who they take after more: Wants to take after her grandpa Kieran, but probably mostly takes after her uncle Carter.
Personal headcanon: Very much the product of a village raising a child. Even though she only has one biological aunt and one biological uncle, she considers all of her parents friends to be her aunts, uncles, etc. Constantly fluctuates between wishing to be a completely normal human and being convinced she should have been born a proper fairy warrior princess. Kind of a pantheist, kind of an atheist, but very Not Catholic. She thought her dad would be angry when she told him, but he wasn’t. (“Well, that’s a relief. Here I thought you were going to tell me you were a heterosexual.”)
Faceclaim: Bailee Madison
Carter/Giuliana—Twins!
Name: Alexandria Joanne “AJ” Jenson-Argenti (an A name for the same reasons Aurelia had one, and a J name for Carter’s Aunt Jo. Also named after Alexander the Great and Joanne of Arc because Giu was like “I want her to be a strong, brave warrior and stuff.”)
Gender: Female
Appearance: Has her mom’s high forehead and her dad’s sculpted cheekbones. Has all of her parents most imposing features, which she’s very proud of. Dyes her hair a new color every few months and is generally kind of a chameleon with her style like her Auntie Houdini. Likes looking “witchy” but her definition of “witchy” can just as easily include Samantha from “Bewitched.” Steals both her parents’ clothes on a regular basis.
Personality: Oozes charisma, which she definitely inherited from Carter, but may or may not be related to being part fae. Outspoken and fun-loving. Definitely a good-time kind of person like her dad, but will cut you if you cross her, like her mom. Drinks her weight in iced tea everyday but tends to avoid alcohol because she ends up being designated driver at all the parties (and there are many, many parties.) Worships her Aunties Rae and Marie every bit as much as her parents do. I think she feels like she has to be loud in order to both compliment and set herself apart from her brother, but it’s also part of her personality.
Special talents: Excellent dancer like her mom, but tends to lean toward more contemporary styles of dance than ballet. Naturally very physically flexible, which could be a mutant thing, or just a natural occurrence. Probably has a little bit of changeling power/fae glamour in her, but hasn’t really looked into it. Likes to do spellwork, but isn’t good at it.
Who they like better: Honestly, probably Carter because she feels more able to talk to him. I think she’s a little scared of her mom, honestly, though she still definitely adores her too. (I see “liking” someone different than “loving” them where family is concerned.)
Who they take after more: Probably Carter in terms of personality, but Giu more in terms of intensity.
Personal headcanon: Despite everything, she considers herself the most normal member of her family, and she’s probably right. Has a poodle-mix puppy named Sparkles who she refers to as her familiar, though Sparkles probably doesn’t have any magical powers besides being cute.
Faceclaim: Ash Costello
Name: Lorcan Parker Jenson-Argenti
(Lorcan was the name of a saint and comes from an Irish title given to warriors. An L name for Specter, who was part of the reason Carter was united with his sister. Parker is after Giu and Carter’s favorite lady in the whole world.)
Gender: Male
Appearance: Surprisingly normal and a little frumpy, but in kind of a “too pretty to be fully human” sort of way. Wears lots of too-large polo shirts and pants that could probably pass for pajama bottoms. Tends to avoid wearing shoes whenever possible. Can occasionally be seen with little air plants growing out of his ears.
Personality: Quiet but not shy. Very calculating, like his mom, but in less of a social manipulation/power dynamic sort of way and more in a documenting kind of way. Takes notes on everything, either in his head or on paper. Scary-smart and scary-observant. Always gets good grades, prompting his Grandma Ana to dote on him a little more than her other grandkids. Definitely an introvert and a stereotypical awkward nerd. I think he probably documents things as a way to bridge the social divide he feels like he has with most people, making up for social connections with intellectual ones. He tends to think people only really like him because of the way he looks, which makes him kind of bitter and inclined to test people’s loyalty to him by being weird and seeing how people react. He’s a lot like his mom in that he has a lot of love in his heart, but only to people he deems worthy of it. If it wasn’t for Carter modeling wholesome masculinity from the beginning, he’d probably develop a nice guy complex, but instead, he just keeps a very close-knit circle of the people who he trusts and kind of forgets that other people exist. Like his parents and their respective siblings, he’s absolutely ride-or-die for his sister, despite them having almost nothing in common.
Special talents: Besides definitely having that fairy-beauty, he also got a little bit of nature magic from his dad, primarily related to succulents. (Now if only Uncle Dante would stop making “aloe you vera much” jokes every time he enters the room.)
Who they like better: He adores both of his parents, but I think his mom probably understands him better.
Who they take after: On the surface, definitely his mom, but when he trusts people and feels a little more comfortable being himself, his particular brand of weirdness is a little less creepy like his mom and a little more sort of quirky and endearing like his dad.
Personal headcanon: He’s very close with his Auntie Parker because she understands and sees more good in him than most. Also because Hampton is super good to him. He and AJ have a “twin language,” that they usually use to gossip about just about everyone. They’re quite cheeky when they’re together. He and and his uncle Dante share a love of spiders and insects.
Faceclaim: Gino Pasqualini

The Fishbone and The Firelily (Part 8)
They had quite a long walk. Katara had clearly managed to lead the group quite a distance. Azula still wasn’t particularly feeling up to such a long walk, she was mentally drained. But somewhere deep down, oddly relieved. Sokka’s words were still buzzing faintly about her mind. They had been so simple, and yet they held so much weight. She still didn’t know what to make of them nor what to do with them.
Every kind word he had uttered a few hours before proved to be every bit as jarring as they were comforting. They relaxed her greatly and eased her feelings of loneliness but all the same they invoked feelings within her that she ought not to have. Feelings that she still couldn’t seem to make sense of.
So, she put an absurd amount of focus on tracing the path of Katara and the rest of the group. They were easy to track, as they left broken branches and a few footprints in obvious places, but Azula took to pretending that she knew less than she did—analyzing directions that they could have possibly taken, knowing very well which path they actually had.
Sokka was walking next to her. In very close proximity at that. He was never less than a finger length away. She could hear his breathing and feel his body heat. More than once he had grabbed her shoulder to keep her from running into a low dipping branch. She couldn’t deny that she was still disoriented in some way or another so she didn’t reprimand him for making sudden contact. She could feel it though, that he longed for something more. Eventually, the path grew more narrow and cluttered so he ended up trailing behind her.
She pushed a tangle of vine and jungle fern leaves out of her path, holding them back just long enough for Sokka to make it past. On one or two occasions she let a branch or two smack him in the stomach or the chest. Each time she muttered an apology, or a ‘whoops’; they were only half genuine, if even that much. The truth was, even if it was only a mild annoyance, she was getting a kick out of letting branches hit the man. She didn’t want to anger the only person who seemed to care for her, but all the same, she very well couldn’t just let him get away with causing her such distress.
She let another fern leaf go on him. From the spitting and puffing noises that came from behind, she gathered that he had just taken a mouthful of fern. For the first time in the last few days she cracked a smile, however small it was.
“You’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you?” Sokka sputtered.
“What, no.  I would never.”  She feigned innocent. Even as she said it she pushed another fern to the side for herself. With a devious smirk, she slipped past ungrazed before turning to look him directly in the eye and release her hold, sending it catapulting into his face.
Just like that, some of the tension seemed to fall away.
He let out a shrill yelp and swatted at his neck. “There was a spider on that one.”
 “Good.” Azula replied.
“Glad to have you back, Azula.” His hand was on her back again, she didn’t have to look back to see his warm smile.
Despite everything, she wanted him to keep it there. And there it was again, the feeling of conflict. She fought to burry that desire. She would do everything in her power to keep him at a distance, where she would be safe from that caring look in his deep blue eyes and safe from the kindness of his speech.
It was growing dark and Azula found that tracking the rest of the group down was becoming genuinely difficult to no fault of her own. She stooped down to have a closer look at what may have been ashes from a hastily made cooking fire. To her discontent, the former princess found that it was burrow of a snake-mouse—alerted only by the creature slithering out and across her hand. Despite herself, she found her lip twitching in disgust. She stood again and looked about the jungle floor. She could find no trace, it was as if their trail had up and disappeared. At last Sokka caught on, “I don’t see anything either.”
“I think I had an easier time following you guys when you didn’t want me to.” She mumbled.
“What’s that?” Sokka pointed to the snake-mouse hole.
“A decoy.” Azula replied, only feeling half sarcastic about it. “I think it may be best if we just make our own way to the heart pool and hope that we run into them along the way. Worst case, we meet them at the base of the mountain.”
“Should we call it a night.” Sokka questioned.
“Not yet.” Azula responded. Her determination mostly stemmed from loathing that it was she who had hindered their progress. Such a thing was unacceptable by all accounts. She still found it rather embarrassing that she had chosen to flee instead of hold her ground. So, she would push forward.
 .oOo.
From that point forward Azula fell into silent determination. For much of the walk, she hadn’t even vocalized directions, she just expected him to follow in her lead. The playful jest was over and she was back to holding the branches away from him properly. This time the silence wasn’t weighted in sadness nor anger, nor even frustration. Still, he dared not take from her focus. He had to admit that they were covering a great amount of ground—Azula was as quick as ever and seemed to be unburdened by tiredness; he found it hard to imagine that just that afternoon she had seemed so worn out.  He on the other hand could go for some leechy nuts and a bathroom break.
At last he called for her to stop for a moment.
“Did you find something?” She asked.
“Yeah. I found the guts to ask you if I can take care of business.” He pointed to a tree.
“Make it fast and don’t let yourself get attacked by a tiger-lemur. I hear those things are pretty nasty.” He observed her propping herself up against banyan tree. “Though it might be fun to watch you try to ward one off.” She took the care to add.
He hustled behind a different tree and unzipped. All things considered, the princess seemed to be holding up pretty well. Though he did dread telling the rest of their party exactly why that jacket had been so important to her. He wondered if she felt the same anxiety. If she did, she sure wasn’t exposing it. He pulled his pants back up and rejoined the woman in question.
She tossed him a bar of soap and pointed to the nearest puddle she could spy. “I know you’re a peasant but you can still wash your hands.”
Sokka found himself thankful for the darkness, and its ability to cloak his blush. He quickly scrubbed his hands and put the soap back into his pack where Azula had fished it out from. He slung it back over his shoulders and paused. Removing it once again, he took out the jacket. He draped it over her shoulders. “I thought you might want it back.”
Azula nodded and with that she sent them back into another bought of quietness. Sokka had to admit that he rather liked listening to the sound of crickets and the occasional eerie wolf-bat call. Coupled with a gentle and balmy breeze, the night was quite ideal for a trek through the jungle. When they came to certain spots he could make out thick, dark, diamond sprayed patches of night sky. He couldn’t seem to find the moon. The only other light came from the small flame licking at the sky from within Azula’s grasp. He could see in the light that her eyes were fixed dead ahead and her lips were pursed in concentration.  She came to another stop. “Do you smell that?”
He took a second to sniff the air. “Fire?”
Azula nodded affirmatively. “Not mine she added.”
He took a second whiff. In it he could detect some type of meat.
Out of nowhere he felt a hand cup his. “Stay close.” She whispered. In her words he sensed danger and all at once he wondered if they were the only ones in the jungle. The princess no longer wielded her fire. He felt the tension leave his mind; her grip was lax. He realized that she was merely referring to how she would no longer be using her bending to light their path. He realized also, that she had slowed her pace as she worked double to avoid any of nature’s traps.
“Can’t we have just a little light. One small, teensy flame?”
“I need to know exactly where the smell is coming from.” Azula replied. “That’s…” she faltered as a palm frond slapped her cheek, “a bit difficult to do when I have a fire of my own to mix with the scent we’re following.”
“If I’m not mistaken, we’re fairly close.” She added when he didn’t reply.”
By that time, he could hear a few voices; the loud and powerful bellow of Toph and the light chatter of Katara. He was about to ask Azula if she was aware when he caught sight of a fire blazing at her fingertips again. Soon they were in sight of the camp and no longer needed her light at all. She took a moment, probably to gain her bearings. He couldn’t miss how she readjusted the jacket, nor how she came to hug it tighter to her body. But she didn’t pull the hood over her head. Apparently, she had more balls than he, for he realized that she probably had no intention of doing so.
Azula however, made it plenty clear she would not be the one announcing their arrival.
“We made it.” He declared. “I can’t believe you guys are still up.”
“I couldn’t just fall asleep knowing that you could be out all alone in the jungle somewhere.” Katara replied. At this, all eyes were on him, leaving Azula to feel thankful that she had that much more time to prepare something good to say. “He woke up, you know.” It took him a moment to put two and two together. “It was only for a moment, but he said that it didn’t hurt…”
Used to hearing her trail off like so, Sokka inquired, “what else did he say?”
She didn’t reply for a moment. “He told me he was sorry and that he wouldn’t be hurt if I found someone else. He doesn’t want me to live alone if…”
 Sokka nodded, understanding.
“I’m so glad you’re alright.” Suki replied. “It started getting dark and I was getting pretty nervous.”
“I can handle myself just fine.” He declared. “And besides, I wasn’t alone.” That was Azula’s cue. But she didn’t seem to want to take it. Rather she seemed to have arrived at the decision that she’d just let them observe and come to their own conclusions. She sat herself down in front of the fire and waited.
 At last Katara spoke, “Azula?”
The princess nodded, her gaze never shifting away from the fire.
“I could have told you that.” Toph laughed. “She’s like twinkle toes, but not as…twinkly.” At this, Azula’s brows furrowed. “Your vibrations are a bit harder to detect than everyone else’s.” The earthbender elaborated.
“Why didn’t you say something?” Suki asked.
Toph shrugged, “thought you guys already knew.”
Sokka took notice of at least a little tightness fleeing Azula’s posture. He couldn’t gauge much else as to how she was feeling.
“Why are you helping us?” Katara asked. “You don’t like us.”
“I suppose I’ll have to let you know when I find a reason.” Azula replied. “You’re a dreadful bunch really.” She added earning herself a glare from Sokka.
“She was being pretty nice when we were alone.” Sokka pointed out.
“I was not.” She protested quite simply.  She stood up again, snatched Sokka’s blanket—ignoring his abrupt, ‘hey!’—and found a spot away from the others to spread it out. He couldn’t suppress a sigh. “You guys wouldn’t mind if she slept closer to the rest of us, would you?”
“I don’t care.” Toph shrugged. “I’ll be in my tent anyways.” As if reminded, the earthbender stood to erect the structure.
Katara cast an apprehensive glance at Azula’s lonely figure. “Well, I mean she hasn’t done anything awful yet. Minus this morning.”
“I would rather her not. She probably has some ulterior motive. You need to be careful, Sokka.” Suki whispered. He had to give her props for honesty.
“I think you’ve been out voted.” Was all he replied before beckoning Azula to join them. “Trust me, she’s alright. Kind of difficult to deal with, but she’s alright.” Seemingly reluctant, the princess came to sit before the fire.
“I guess you’re alright too.” Suki smirked. She gave him a playful jab in the arm. “More than alright actually.” But his eyes were still on Azula who seemed to be devoting all of her energy into staring at the fire and avoiding conversation. Suki caressed his cheek. “I think we deserve a little alone time, wouldn’t you say?” She asked.
“Alone time.” Sokka pondered. Before he could answer either affirmatively or otherwise, Suki’s lips were upon his own. They held all of the passion he recognized. With everything he had he latched onto that energy and deepened the kiss.
So why couldn’t he seem to feel anything at all?
 .oOo.
Azula didn’t much feel like getting up—especially since she had just set up. Not to mention that she found her spot at the edge of their camp to be rather peaceful. Regardless she wrapped her blanket around herself and strolled closer to the campfire. She supposed, at the very least, it would do her well to be near the familiar pop and crackle of it. However, she very much could have done without hearing the Kyoshi warrior get all sappy again. Everything about the girl aggravated Azula tenfold. She hoped that she was conveying that strongly enough for Suki to feel it.
They were all deep into whatever they were doing; Toph adding more pizzazz to her tent, Katara tending to Aang, and Suki and Sokka in their conversation. Perhaps that’s why none of them took notice to how the fire suddenly flared up.  If Azula couldn’t char a body or two, she could at least fantasize about it.
She looked up from the fire at just the wrong time. And just like before her anger melted away into something else. An emotion she couldn’t quite place—a blend of emotions she couldn’t quite place. Sokka held the Kyoshi warrior so close. Closer than he had held her. He pulled away briefly, only to kiss the woman again and twice as lovingly.
And for the first time in ages, Azula felt nothing.
There was no burning sensation eating away at the skin on her back and belly, no throbbing in her arms, no random twinges of stinging pain in her face. For a brief time, it didn’t even register; she’d grown so used to the dull ache. She brought a hand to her cheek. Her fingers brushing over soft, delicate skin. The skin she was used to. The skin she’d always known, smooth and untainted—save for a small scar from being thrown so harshly against the cave’s wall. Azula swallowed hard as the realization set in. She stood up and silently excused herself away from the rest of the group.
And for the first time, perhaps, ever, she felt everything.

Downtrodden Answers: Lots O’ Bugs Edition
here are a bunch of answers for the staggering pile of downtrodden questions that have built up.
god, there are so many. this isn’t even a fraction of them. more coming soon.
Tumblr media
@terminallytwisted
they’re uncommon to rare since they have such small clutches of eggs (for insects) and they’re not really the best parasites around. in fact, without breeding programs they would all be gone by now. like awful bug pandas.
there are specific breeders tasked with recreating ideal habitats and situations for the best results. these people train under other veteran breeders for years before they have the documentation and references to start managing their own clutches. of course, if you have a Walking Worm and the guy down the street has a Walking Worm you can breed them but the failure rate is high without a breeder’s counsel and if things aren’t handled correctly the worms can get defensive and aggressive. they’re intelligent social creatures and trying to mate them with a worm they don’t like or in a place they feel unsafe might get that other worm’s dick ripped off and you accidentally stepped on. not a good look. not worth the items or money saved on that counseling fee.
if your worms do manage to impregnate each other and lay clutches, congrats! no one lost a limb this time! you may now sell or trade those eggs to the highest bidder because those are some precious precious babies.
Tumblr media
yup. they usually really excel at one or the other but there are shady places where you want to keep your pet close and most boat bodied worms get lonely if their owners are up on land for too long :(
Tumblr media
@bleatingbico
there’s no really ‘taming’ snails. they just kind of do what they want. some people have them as pets though, and their mucus can be harvested for different healing and cosmetic uses.  rabbits don’t really breed them because their populations can get out of hand fast.
Tumblr media
what do you think Wolves that never turn look like?
Tumblr media
@sinezona
that’s such a cute idea! i decree it cannon. its probably more of a dark green though since it has to have as much contrast with the paper as possible for better low light reading. that or mixed in with glow in the dark liquids. as for newspapers, they’re not daily but there is an island-wide paper distributed by the postal workers covering general island news, predator sightings, deaths, that sort of thing. local news is covered by guilds who collect interesting findings and goings on in the surrounding area and then send what are essentially anchor rabbits to individual warrens to report them to the gathered crowds. these reports may also come by radio if the radio signals work there (owls do a number on radio signals).
Tumblr media
@fignan
there are mines on the island, usually connected to special tunnels that connect to different warrens so that large groups of workers can get to work safely. what metalworkers do really depends on if its an area with other metalworkers present of if they’re the only one for miles. more crafters means more specialization. less means you’re kind of thrust into being the jack of all trades unless you order from other metalworkers. you might have to do this anyway though if you’re like great at cups but royally suck at daggers. in a wolf attack people will use your janky daggers but they’ll also come back and try to beat your ass with their remaining limbs. better to just get in contact with an outside source.
Tumblr media
jesus.
1:yes
2: i’m totally using the bog iron idea thank you, also digging is more for home expansion/ underground transportation. its mostly done by hand with some shovel work to remove excess dirt and a few other tools to smooth walls and floors. mining is more intense and careful work. digging is about hollowing out the area, mining is actually searching for stuff. the two sometimes collide if interesting deposits are found while constructing burrows or warrens but rabbits try to keep mining operations away from their homes and water supplies just in case of disaster.
3: fungi, greens, squash, cabbages, bell peppers, seaweed, kiwi, coconuts, melons, peaches, almonds, and wheat. there are many more and there’s a lot of variety on the island between areas or just warrens. crops might also depend on how close to the Center you are. you can get a peach as big as a watermelon if your farm is far enough inland. they are prone to both dropping on unlucky people and producing the finest jams known to sapient life. you can barely taste the murder.
4: a lot of plant fibers like cotton and various woven items made of shed rabbit fur and the found pelts of larger creatures. rabbits like to use spider silk for durable items as well as sturdy wings and carapaces of certain bugs. it is important to note that many rabbits think wearing things from bugs commonly classified as pets is super gross unless its from your actual pet as a remembrance item. you’re not going to make any friends in a Walking Worm skin suit.
5: rabbits make 99% of their day to day items. they like mainland rice and a few other food items but if they import anything its usually luxury items like furniture or machines that were never commonly used on the island like cameras. when you can talk to the dead, keeping pictures around seems a lot less important. rabbits have really warmed up to photos though. despite the occasional flubbs like the shine of strange eyes hovering above nests of sleeping kits and shadowy figures sitting in on a family portraits, cameras are getting popular among those that can afford them.
6: rabbits have been obsessed with textiles since the dawn of their civilization. you know they know their way around a loom.
Tumblr media
@crackingdrywall
warrens have a pretty tribal/family atmosphere. there is usually an ‘elder’ or ‘elders’ which are akin to the head of the warren who try to keep everyone from shanking each other, and then there are leaders for different facets of warren life. classically these were mated couples but these days its just two people who work well together and essentially act as managers for their specific responsibilities. its always two just in case something happens to someone and the next qualified person doesn’t have time to settle into the position, and its become more common for these managers to be comprised of one seasoned older person and one enterprising younger person. the common positions for management are:
kitchen (they handle food inventory, cooking, and food farming)
medicine (medical and rescue services, only led by midwives and doctors)
spiritual (priests and doctors who focus more on mental illness)
communication (necromancers, postal workers, journalists)
home (they handle the building, cleaning and upkeep of the warren. gotta make sure that the cranky old people are happy and that the bugs aren’t pooping everywhere)
entertainment (they handle the books, games, festivals, ect. diversions from the Bad Times)
and guards (the peeps who prevent the other peeps from being eaten by horror monsters)
of course these positions change and expand depending on what size your warren is, what the age demographic is, what the area is like, what predators are in that area, what the death rate is like, if you specialize in crafting or trading for certain things, if you’re made of family groups or guild workers who’ll just be there for parts of the year, if you’re a secret street fighting ring, ect. there’s a lot to keep in mind.
also those position names are boring and will probably be revised later but the fact that they’re basically just what they say they are is so Rabbit i don’t know if i should change it.
Tumblr media
@joysweeper
not really. vultures are hard to catch and kind of gross to eat so they don’t have any real natural predators on the island. i mean, things only got after rabbits because they’re delicious and they can catch them. and some things, like foxes, won’t even bother with that if there are enough bugs and berries around.
there are still plenty of creatures that will fuck them up if they DO get caught but they can usually avoid them. its why they keep their meals short and don’t bring their children down to eat.
Tumblr media
@balaur-of-four-toes
i really Feel that comic.
and those other creature thoughts are spot on. the fennecs would be a little bigger though. maybe the size of a real life wolf since Downtrodden foxes and rabbits are equivalent in scale to real life foxes and rabbits.
maybe when i’m done with the island and the mainland and the holy city, we can go to some far off places and meet some other weird talking critters.
Tumblr media
i’m not sure if i answered this one but i have talked about house boats. as for pure underwater dens, there is a huge system of hot springs and fresh water underground rivers that rabbits take advantage of. a lot of rabbits like to make their homes near them. there are also the seaside glass caves where the tides and general proximity to the ocean can lead to warrens or burrows surrounded by cliff side waterfalls or aquarium-like glass walls.
Tumblr media
@stanzicapparatireplayers
see above friendo :)
Tumblr media
wellllll. you’re half right about what went down.
rabbits sort of used it to their advantage when they could. see, they have very little sexual dismorphia just like the mainlanders, and since the mainlanders were used to using social and visual cues to pick out the minute differences in reproductive roles they could call a rabbit maybe 60% of the time if they’re alone with them. but the fact that rabbits don’t really follow a super strict design template for body shape and height and they don’t have larger boobs unless they’re pregnant, currently nursing, or the mother of a bunch of kits, make a group of rabbits look like ten million different species with no discernible gender to the mainlander eye. at least in the olden days. so, the rabbits would use gendered pronouns to go places and exhibit behaviors that were seen as contrary to their gender roles. and the mainlanders would be so relived that they had a gender to go on that they didn’t really question it for quite a while. of course, then there were a few scandals over revealed homosexual relationships, obscenity charges slapped on people in places they shouldn’t be, ect, and the mainland got very strict about your gender matching your reproductive role. most rabbits stepped in line but the paranoia was already there. it was only ten years ago that most jobs required full body physicals before hiring rabbits.
it was kind of a sucky thing!
Tumblr media
@adeterminedloser
they’ve had enough of my shit and i can’t blame them.
and the idea was very simple to me. life is hard. its weird and scary and awesome and everything is always changing. there are so many things that go wrong and so much danger. life is hard to control, even if that life is a little bean sprout.
meanwhile, death is pretty chill. you’re already dead dude! what more is gonna happen to you?
it also plays off something my mom and grandmothers told me about ghosts when i was little so i wouldn’t be scared.
you’ve got way more to fear from the living than the dead.

I really wanna talk about my top 4 ocs because they're all pretty nifty and I've been trying to work on their stories for a while.
So anyway here they are: (btw this is a pretty long post read at your own risk)
1) Jacquelyn Lokdottir, daughter of a vampire-turned-Asgardian and Loki (me and friend rped a lot and then Jac was born) she has magic and lives in the Marvel Universe, has dated Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Wade Wilson/Deadpool (and at one point they were all dating each other ) then they broke up and Jac moved on and focused more on helping out Asgard w her younger brother Soren (who is not magical) then much later found out she had a bounty hunter after her.
2) Amelia "Lady Galaxy" Quill, daughter of Be'Ney Boggs and Peter Quill, Be'Ney Boggs was an illegal scientist doing illegal experimentation (humanely) on native fauna. Eventually the lab was busted and Be'Ney sent young Amelia and her pet/experimentation away and the girl lived as a runaway thief/bounty hunter and just did whatever she could to survive. She was major nuisance to Nova Corps and when she got caught at 16 she used her last ace up the sleeve (An unknowing Peter Quill after he saved the galaxy from the lunatic) and was handed into his care. Years later she gets a email from a source to do a bounty job for an Asgardian Princess and when she went to get the girl, well she accidentally fell in love and they go on wild adventures.
3) Lily (previously called Red) is the pet/experiment/best friend of Amelia. Lily was once a small pink lizard that was captured by some scientist to be experiment for hacking into a living thing’s dna and rewriting it to make it into something else.  Of course the scientist were under orders to make sure that they didn’t inflict any pain upon the creature.  Once ‘Red’ was done, it was a large red scaled lizard with wings, young Amelia called him a ‘dragon’, and of course they had tested to see if they could give the creature human thought, and it worked.  When they were about to crack back into the dragon, the lab was busted and everyone was sent to prison with the exception of Red and Amelia.  Red loved Amelia, he was her best friend and vice versa.  Amelia took care Red just as much as Red took care of Amelia.  When Nova Corps captured them and they were given to Peter Quill’s custody, Red stuck with her.  When Amelia got the equipment to finish giving Red human speech, Amelia was shocked when Red said “You know, I might have been born male, but I kinda wanna be female?  With white scales?  Can you do that for me?” and of course Amelia got right on that.  As soon as it was done, Red became Lily with pearly white scales and a pretty singsong voice.  When Amelia met Jacquelyn, Lily went with them on their adventures and had loads of fun.  When Lily met Vision, she immediately wanted her own humanoid body.  Eventually, Amelia replicated the technology that created Vision and got Lily her own android body and with the help of Jacquelyn moved her conscious from one body into the other.
4) Soren Lokson, son of Asgardian once vampire and Loki, brother of Jacquelyn.  Unlike his sister, he did not inherit any of the vampirism (which has faded from Jacquelyn over time), Frost Giant, magic, or anything else.  From a genetic standpoint, he is all Asgardian.  He’s also the heir to the throne, and lead warrior of the group of elite warriors.  They go across the Yggdrasil to the different lands to keep the peace.  Soren also pops in from time to time to check up on Jacquelyn and her girlfriend, sometimes having to talk to his least favorite person (Deadpool) to get across the dimensions to find the girls.  He also has a pet, a shapeshifting animal companion named ‘Bully’.  Bully was once a tutor of Jacquelyn’s before he offended her and she turned him into a chicken for the kitchens but Soren’s birthday was coming up and she instead turned him into an elephant as Soren’s mount, an appropriate gift for the heir.  So, now Bully has the ability to shift to any animal that Soren needs (mostly a Hawk, Wolf, Elephant, and occasionally a Rat).
BONUS OC:
5) Ingrid , she doesn’t live in the Marvel Universe, she lives in the DC Universe.  She was raised in a elite covert operation team, her parents and the team that raised her turned her into a weapon for the government.  She didn’t have a childhood.  When the team was sent out to stop a waging warlord out by the Himalayas, Ingrid was sent to move the villagers that were in the way to a different location.  Before she could even make it to the village, the warlord had already passed but she was still able to get half of the villagers to safety before a bad snow storm happened.  While they to refuge in a cave, and one of the little village girls told her something that stuck with her forever.  She said to Ingrid, a soldier meant to be a perfect impassive weapon for her country and government who saved her life, ‘You are pari here to save us. You are our savior snow leopard.  Thank you,’ then bowed away back to the group.  Snow Leopard became her new code name.  After the mission was over and a few years later, her father got her burned from the team.  While Ingrid was seriously angry about being burned, she was kicked out of the team and on her own.  She went to Starling City (Later known as Star City) bothering the Arrow (eventually busting into his lair and learning that he was Oliver Queen) and then helping him out when she felt like it.  Eventually, she was hired on to be Thea Queen’s body guard and escort.  After Oliver disappeared for the third time, Ingrid was released from her duty and decided that she wanted to try out Central City, Barry Allen was pretty alright guy.  Bad thing for her though, the night that she finally got to visit the zoo, getting a private tour of the big cats, was the night S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator went off.  While she was at the zoo, watching the snow leopard, the power went off, the automatic locks unlocked.  The back up generator came on quickly though, getting most of the locks back on, but the agitated snow leopard had already snapped the door open and was on Ingrid.  She did her best to fight him off, but he had bit into her throat, by that time the Accelerator had went off it had put her in a coma.  When she had woke up in the hospital, she felt... Different.  Later she found that she had better reflexes, she could see in the dark pretty well.  The worst of all, when she went back to Star City, the Green Arrow startled her and she almost clawed his face.  Like literally clawed it off.  Then she found out that she could sprout out ears and tails, snow leopard tails and ears.  Oliver sent her to Barry Allen (the actual Flash) and S.T.A.R Labs where they helped her.  They did the best they could, but they couldn’t separate the snow leopard’s DNA from her own.  Eventually, she met was introduced to Amelia and Jacquelyn (who had hopped dimensions and had been moving back and forth from Central City and Star City helping the respective heroes).
