i just tried the demo and it's really good! i love all of the ROs and your writing is compelling af. however, there is this phrase that gives me an ick; it happens in the flashbacks of qiu and mc's relationship. javanese mynas... idk, but as an indonesian (tho i'm not javanese), that really feels condescending to me. i don't think writing the javanese part is needed, you know? ofc, you don't have to change that or anything, i just want to point that out. good luck on your writing!!

Thanks for pointing out that the phrase gave you icky feelings. To explain a little more, I was actually using the name of the bird species (pic of the lil dude below)—but after a quick google I realise that "Javan myna" is used more commonly than "Javanese myna". But in order to not run into any of that at all, I'll just use myna :)

P.S. So cool to meet another Southeast Asian!

Let’s talk about Singapore wildlife woo!!

As a city with lots of greenery, animals can be found everywhere across the place. When you find a moderately-sized lizard (invasive unfortunately), or perhaps a wasp nest on a random sign, you know they did something right.

With a similar climate compared to Hong Kong, you can find some familiar faces, such as this Okinawa mud wasp.

However, the native wildlife for the most part, is completely different. Check out this wasp moth (close relatives can still be found in HK) and stingless bee. Maybe even a wandering glider, or an amorphoscelis mantis.

Common birds include the zebra dove, spotted dove, house crow and javan myna (I don’t like them).

Also saw a collared kingfisher and a peacock (invasive).

There are actually 2 species of monitor in Singapore: the Asian water monitor and the clouded monitor, which I unfortunately didn’t get the chance to meet, maybe when I come back here later…

"This guy is absolutely everywhere where I live, and yet the wikipedia entry puts them at “threatened”. I want people to know that this bird that my locals might think is a pest is actually a pet songbird in other areas. They are really loud when they flock together in the same tree. I am betting on submissions coming from the american audience who have never heard of this bird before. <3"

Habitat: cultivated areas and cities; especially attracted to flooded grassy fields. I just think its really funny that this bird species is listed as "yeah they just like people" rather than having any sort of "wild" habitat.

raptorifying birds seems to be a common reoccuring theme i end up doing when i don’t have anything to draw..

it’s inspired from @simonstalenhag ‘s paleoart as always, i’m trying to imagine a scenario where modern birds either evolved to once again have their dinosaur traits or that they never lost them in the first place.

a kasowari raptor is seen rearing its chicks which have yet to grow their mother’s beatiful black feathers and colorful head while at the back two smaller javan myna raptors are trying to drive away a monitor lizard from their favorite dumpster spot.

The Javan Myna is pretty much the Pigeon of Singapore, they're everywhere, they eat everything, but at least they don't seem as stupid.
