It's kinda sad to think about the fact that everyone was probably cheering and happy that Edward Hyde was dead, except for Utterson, who knew the truth about Henry and Edward and how they were the same person, he knew how much of a damaged and broken person Henry/Edward was, how he couldn't help or save him, how he was the only one who knew him as a person and the fact that if Gabriel told the truth to the public, they would believe he's crazy.

No one mourns the wicked, except for him.

Personal headcanon that even though Jekyll is open to ideas involving the supernatural (he's apparently a transcendentalist, so why not), he's had several bones to pick with the spiritualist movement at the time, finding it to be "utter hogwash" and its methods "embarassingly unscientific".

That being said, he once participated in a seance. As soon as the medium declared that she felt a presence, he promptly rolled his eyes back and, spasming wildly, put on his best Hyde impression. He hasn't been invited a second time.

Summary:

Henry Jekyll had split his two halves at last, and he'd completely severed the ties between them. If only the rest of the story had gone in his favor. --- Or... Robert is left with the aftermath of an arrest and a tragedy already written in stone

Based on the absolutely gutwrenching fic by Celestetcetera on Ao3, I read that oneshot the other day and wrote this... all today. Um. Yeah guys im doing fine why do you ask
