I haven't read this series, but this is for my little sister's birthday (it's her favorite series/character). I hope it's accurate...

I'm listening to the False Prince audio book right now (major spoilers in this post btw!!!!!!!!) and I'm still in the first chapter but the reader (Charlie McWade) has read most of the narration in a pretty flat tone while giving all the characters wildly performance accents, EXCEPT SAGE, who has a basic American accent just like the narration and so far only has slightly more life injected into him. Conner and Mrs. Turbeldy are both being read in these performative British accents.
If you've read the books then you know that not only are Conner and Turbeldy both Carthyan but SAGE, who is actually Jaron, is ALSO carthyan and spends most of the first book pretending to be Avenian and faking an Avenian accent.
WHICH IMPLIES THAT THE ACCENT OF THE AVENIANS IS JUST AN AMERICAN ACCENT. And the Carthyans are British.
Help??? Is Sage's accent going to change from American to British as the book goes on and he "learns" to fake a Carthyan accent? Is the narration going to change to a British accent at the end when we realize that he's been Carthyan all along?!! Or has he been in the Avenian accent for so long that now he just thinks in an Avenian accent?
Help I know I'm probably reading too much into it but this is insane i can't stop thinking about it, Sage/Jaron's accents and sarcasm play SUCH an important role in the series so it feels SO wrong that all the characters would get essentially Pro Voice Actor Treatment while he gets to be read in a flat American tone regardless of what façade he's putting on at any given time.

How to write the first chapter (learning from examples)
I’ve been working on a super special WIP, and one day I got especially discouraged with my writing. It felt like I couldn’t even figure out how to construct a sentence, let alone a chapter. Like seriously, how do you even write a chapter? How long are they supposed to be? Is it just one scene or multiple? Of course each book approaches writing chapters differently, but I’d heard that the best…

With his country on the brink of a revolt among the ruling class, a teenage orphan has two weeks to transform himself into a perfect imitation of a long presumed dead prince. Survival is his only goal, and anything less than perfection will lead to his death. Can he become the prince his country needs? Or will he be killed by the man who forced him into this role in the first place?

Am I about to word vomit about a series that isn’t super well-known and I haven’t even technically finished since the fourth book was released and I never read it? Yes. Yes I am.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Ascendance series. Formerly the Ascendance Trilogy but I just discovered there was a fourth book released in 2020 (I think I was told before but I forgot 💀). A bit of a staple series in my adolescence and cemented my love of sarcastic asshole main characters (along with Percy Jackson)
But, more seriously, beyond Jaron’s fuckery on the surface, I kinda wanna dig deeper into his character. Cause, even thinking about his story for more than a minute is rather sad. He was the second-born of his family, the royal family, and an embarrassment to them because of his shenanigans (I’m willing to bet he has ADHD). The black sheep. The screw up. Everything that his brother, the crown prince, wasn’t, and it reflected poorly on him. He was impulsive and passionate, but most of all, he was hardly 11 when he went missing.
11. Eleven years old when he barely missed being attacked and murdered by pirates. Eleven when he escaped to Avenia, a country that was looking to devour his own and slaughter his people and murder his family. Eleven when he was told by his father not to come home, as it was his duty to prevent war between the two countries; one that Jaron’s own, Carthya, would lose. Eleven when he was disowned, essentially, and orphaned and had to survive in a hostile country. The jump from prince to starving street urchin couldn’t have been a pleasant one.
Then he spends the next four years living as this vagrant. I can’t imagine what his thoughts towards his family were; how his father told him not to return, for the good of Carthya. How his mother would never know what happened to him, her cherished son, and simply had to wonder for those four years what had happened, until she was murdered with her husband and son. The revelation that Conner had murdered his family in order to prompt the power struggle to find the missing prince, or rather, create a convincing copy of the prince. And the further revelation that Conner had hired the pirates to attack Jaron’s ship to kill him, but had failed.
Would he not feel as if his family’s deaths were his fault? He never got to say goodbye to them, not properly, and he was hardly 15 when they died. He was still a kid. He already buries his true feelings and emotions under layers of bitterness and sarcasm and defiance. Almost every one around him betrays him or tries to kill him in one way or another. His entire world is deceit and lies and murder, so it’s no wonder he’d grow up salty and bitter at the world around him.
He’s king. 15 and king of a country. And despite everything, he still does everything in his power to protect his people. Cause even if he is salty and bitter at the world and the fucking assholes around him, he’s going to do his duties as king and protect his people to the best of his ability. He’s protective of those he cares about. We see that with Imogen, how from day 1 at Farthenwood he’s sticking up for her and looking out for her. He often goes to ridiculous extremes to protect the ones closest to him. Even to the point where he puts himself in jeopardy.

How come I can never, and I mean NEVER, fine anyone in the same book Fandom as me. Like, bro. You're telling me you *haven't* read Jennifer Neilson's first YA series? The Traitors Game was sooo good, dare I say close to TFOTA. Don't get me wrong, TFOTA is my favorite series, but this is a close second. More people need to read it.

NO BUT I STARTED THE SCOURGE AND FELL SO IN LOVE BY CHAPTER SIX I HAD TO FLIP BACK TO THE COVER TO SEE WHO WROTE SUCH AN AMAZING BOOK. AND THEN WENT "AH YES, HER, FAVORITE AUTHOR EVER. FR" BECAUSE SHE IS AMAZING AND I DONT KNOW HOW SHE DOES IT AND point is, once im done with these im spending my pocket money on the mark of the thief. what a wonderful time to live. i wish she was more popular her books are literally ALL masterpieces. it doesnt matter how many fandoms i flip through in between, i constantly come back to her books. and i, unfortunately, in an accident at 2-something in the morning, screamed and killed a cockroach with my copy of The Shadow Throne. im so sorry mrs Jennifer i have literally failed you it's corpse is still there months later 💔 and my broken heart is on the wall with it

I'd forgotten just how much the False Prince influenced my writing. I'm having a grand time rereading them, and for the first time in years I feel inspired to write again!

Writblr/Artblr Intro
Hi!
I'm N.C. Zaversnick, which lets be real is a pen name.
If you're wondering how I came up with it it's a combination of my and my writing partner's name.
Anyway I'm the one y'all will be interacting with so this will focus mostly on me. You can, however, follow Rachelle on Instagram @panda.panduh.
I'm 22, disabled and queer as hell. I also have ADHD and autism. I use he/they pronouns and I've been writing and drawing since I was 8. I also read a great deal, mostly fantasy though I started reading more dystopians when I started seriously working on Project Gemini.
My favorite book is The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen.
I'm currently reading The Devil’s Thief by Lisa Maxwell
I'm currently playing Wizard101 (Y’all I’m so done with Wallaru)
I'm currently watching How I Met Your Mother
To see pictures of my rabbit follow #michael.. or join the tag list

WIPs
First off: Project Gemini
Project Gemini is the name for my book series that I do intend to publish some day. We're still working on book one but currently we're planning four books total for this series.
This is a link to the Master Post, where you will find more links to specific Project Gemini information
In a very general sense, this is a YA dystopian series with queer characters of an appropriate age (about mid 20s)
I can only describe it as what you'd get if you crossed X-men with Avatar. Some members of humanity evolved to have fire/water/earth/air powers. So naturally the government oppressed them. This leads to the creation of a rebel group determined to fight for their rights or overthrow the government whichever comes first. The story follows Caspian, a water elemental guy, and his experience when he meets this group and joins their cause.
Fandomverse
So this is why I don't have 5 bajillion WIPs. I take literally every idea I've ever had and mush them all together into this story. Anything I can't fit becomes an AU using OCs from this universe.
This one is a two year long text chain between me and a friend from middle school. It is a mix of original characters and world building and whatever random fandom shit we want.
It came to be while I was deep in my Doctor Who phase and I created my very own Time Lord/The Doctor. (Canonically speaking, he is the Doctor and the TV show Doctor Who still exists but everything in the TV show is based on stories my time lord told some BBC writers while drunk). My friend had a good deal of her own universe by then and so we just mushed the two together.
The basics are what would happen if a Time Lord and a couple of reapers fell in love and had many paranormal adventures but also were parents trying to raise their kids to be knowledgeable in both the human world and the paranormal world.
For the most part, this is the universe for most of the art I share, nnot so much for writing
AUs for Fandomverse
I will eventually put links here but for now it's just a list
Arc of a Scythe
Percy Jackson
Harry Potter
