"The Screamin' Sasquatch" Jet WACO
The Screamin’ Sasquatch is one of a kind on the air show circuit John Klatt Airshows and Jack Link’s Beef Jerky teamed up to create a one of a kind plane, the Screamin Sasquatch., which is powered by two different engines. The plane style is a Jet Waco, first introduced by Jimmy Franklin in 1999. The Screamin’ Sasquatch is highly modified in many ways. Every control surface has been specifically engineered for the unique aerodynamic forces encountered during high-speed flight. Portions of the aircraft’s structure have been converted from wood and fabric, to carbon fiber. The cockpit has been moved 3 feet aft, in order to accommodate fuel tanks for both 100LL and Jet A fuel. The cockpit is extremely modern and incorporates the MGL Avionics Stratomaster Odyssey touch screen system, which integrates all of the engine monitoring of both power plants and the aircraft’s avionics systems – essentially combining a couple of dozen gauges into one screen. The Screamin’ Sasquatch, Jack Link’s Jet Waco is powered by dual power plants: a Pratt & Whitney 985 Radial Engine and a General Electric CJ610 (J85) Jet Engine with 3,000lbs of thrust. This system allows the plane to achieve feats other stunt planes are unable to do. The plane will be at a thrust ratio of 1 to 1, which allows it to accelerate going straight up.

For Jim, Linköping held a beauty that resonated deep within him, maybe something to do with the Catholicism he had grown up in. Even as his faith seemed to ebb and flow like the tide, his appreciation for the artistry of Gothic and religious architecture remained steadfast. Consequently, his visits with Copia and his ministry were no longer met with the internal resistance they once had. That era of quiet discontent had faded.
A significant shift had occurred, a change tinged with the bittersweet reality of loss. The passing of Copia's parents and his subsequent ascension to the weighty title of Frater Imperator had, paradoxically, fostered a newfound closeness between the two. The stolen moments of their connection had largely dissolved, the necessity for such secrecy now limited to the maintenance of Jim's public persona as a priest. Given that his radio program was only within Waco, Texas, the need for sneaking around was minimal when in an entirely different country. Going global with his program, an ambition of Jim's, would undoubtedly introduce a far greater need for discretion. But for now, in their current circumstances, such concerns remained comfortably distant.
Yet, amidst the genuine happiness that Jim found in Linköping without drugs and alcohol, the transition from the familiar warmth of his Texan home to the biting cold of Sweden, in addition to the disorienting effects of jet lag, certainly discomforted him. He found himself shivering despite being enveloped in the layers of two coats (that belonged to Copia) and several pairs of gloves, his own bundled fingers intertwined with Copia's surprisingly bare ones. Jim wondered as he observed Copia, seemingly unphased by how the cold could still seep through his thin, elegant gray coat, accented by a charming maroon scarf wrapped snugly around his neck - A scarf that Jim suspected might serve purposes beyond protection from the cold after their first night together in months.
"Aww, perdonami, my little angel," Copia crooned, his tone that of someone speaking to a kitten. He extended an arm and gently but firmly drew the trembling form of Jim closer against his side. They navigated the bustling plaza, a sea of unfamiliar faces and hurried footsteps of tourists who also wished to escape the cold, with Copia acting as a warm anchor.
"You see, I have no need for thick coats,” Copia said, "I'm, eh… Quite accustomed to this sort of weather. Like you and your, eh, heat. You recall, sí? How miserable I am in the infernal heat of Texas? This is hardly any different."
A soft "I know" escaped Jim's reddening lips, his teeth chattering involuntarily. The sound sparked a snorting giggle from Copia, who found it adorable. Attempting a playful escape from embarrassment, Jim nudged Copia's ribs with his elbow, which only resulted in being enveloped in an even tighter embrace. Perhaps that had been the desired outcome all along.
"No, no, no, do not be upset with me, amore mio!" Copia playfully nuzzled his nose into the crook of Jim's neck, pressing exaggerated kisses upwards along his jawline, the audible ‘mwah’s an intentional act of public affection that sent a fresh wave of red creeping up Jim's cheeks under the scrutiny of strangers.
"Stop it!” Jim squealed, his voice a mixture of exasperation and hardly disguised delight. Despite his outward protest, a reluctant smile tugged at the corners of his mouth, warmth blossoming on his skin that had little to do with the temperature.
"Ah, but look," Copia murmured triumphantly, his breath warm against Jim's ear, "your face is quite warm now, sí?"
Jim reached up and pulled the hood of his jacket over his head, his fingers fumbling with the drawstrings as he tightened the opening to conceal his shyness.
They finally turned and stepped into their destination, a quaint little storefront nestled amongst the other businesses in the plaza. A sign reading “Shear Delight” adorned with a whimsical illustration of a fluffy sheep hung above them. The owner, as local lore had it, was a man who also maintained a small flock of sheep on a farm just outside of town, personally harvesting their fleece to be spun and woven into the very articles sold within.
As they opened the door, a cheerful little bell jingled merrily above the door, announcing their arrival. A wave of warmth washed over Jim, and a soft, contented hum rumbled in his chest as the cozy heat kissed his face. He reached up and slowly pulled back the hood of one of his jackets, his steps losing their previous briskness as his eyes drifted around the interior of the shop.
"Well now," Jim murmured, "this place looks mighty pricy." He cast an uncertain glance at Copia, his eyebrows furrowing slightly. Jim was no stranger to scamming folks out of a bit of their generosity, a habit born of what felt like necessity and grew into corruption and greed. But when it came to Copia, a knot of unfamiliar guilt would always tighten in his chest when he would spend that kind of money on him. Perhaps the stirring of his dormant conscience was a good thing for Jim.
"Your focus should be on what is warm enough for you, baby." Copia said, wiggling his fingers before he began to sift through a row of coats. The colors and designs were entirely mute and minimalistic, mostly grays and blues in plaid.
Jim ambled over to where Copia stood. With a swift flick of his wrist, he located and flipped over the small cardboard tag dangling from one coat, his eyes quickly scanning the hand written numbers. A soft, almost disbelieving scoff blew from his nose as the sheer absurdity of the cost registered in his mind. The tag slipped from his fingers, twirling momentarily before settling back against the wool. His attention immediately diverted, his gaze now sweeping across the other items in the shop. Such prices were almost a given in a small, independently owned establishment like this, where the labor and the quality of materials promised a premium product. Still, it was written off as too much in Jim’s mind.
"This one?" Copia's voice chimed with a bright enthusiasm as his hand reached out and gently grasped the very coat that caught Jim’s eye.
"Uh-“ Jim began, but lost the words on his tongue. His hands instinctively clenched into tight fists at his sides, wincing inwardly as Copia looked over the price tag. Copia's lips curved into a wide, unrestrained smile, a flash of white teeth illuminating his face as he plucked the coat from the rack. Turning to Jim, his grin widened further, radiating pure, unadulterated affection.
"Okie dokie!" Copia declared. "Let's go!" With a buoyant step, he turned and headed towards the wooden counter where the kindly-looking shop owner stood, ready to assist. Jim watched him go, a wave of guilt washing over him. Despite this, he knew better than to argue with Copia's determined kindness, or else he’d find himself being smothered with embarrassing public displays of affection as he had learned earlier.
With a soft sigh of reluctant acceptance, he followed, his steps a little hesitant. As Copia engaged in a brief, cheerful exchange with the shopkeeper and presented his payment, Jim subtly rocked back and forth on his heels, looking everywhere except at Copia. He couldn’t believe the level of shyness that this man could get out of him. Maybe he did it on purpose.
Jim's quiet fidgeting ceased abruptly as Copia's warm hand enveloped his, pulling him gently towards the exit of the building. Before Jim could fully register the touch, Copia leaned in and pressed a soft, lingering kiss against his bearded cheek that sent a pleasant warmth spreading through him. Then, with an almost childlike skip in his step, Copia turned and practically danced his way out of the cozy shop, tugging Jim along in his wake.
Once they were back out in the crisp, cold air of the plaza, Copia released Jim's hand only to grasp him firmly by both shoulders. He twirled Jim around, the newly acquired wool coat billowing slightly before Copia carefully draped it over his shoulders.
"Copia!" Jim exclaimed, a surprised giggle escaping, his Southern drawl a touch more pronounced in his amusement. "I ain't a toddler! I can manage puttin' on a coat myself!”
"Nonsense," Copia replied matter-of-factly, his tone allowing room for no argument as he gently swatted away Jim's fumbling attempts to take control of the situation. With ease, Copia guided Jim's already bundled arms into the soft wool sleeves, a small, satisfied hum escaping his lips. He then twirled Jim around once more, bringing them face-to-face, and lifted his hand to tenderly kiss Jim's covered knuckles, his eyes closed.
A deep blush bloomed across Jim's cheeks, a familiar heat that never seemed to diminish despite the countless times Copia had showered him with such sweet and open displays of love. He knew he would likely never grow entirely accustomed to this tenderness, especially considering the contentious beginnings of their relationship, the natural, religious friction that had existed between them when they had first met. Guilt often crossed Jim's mind as he recalled the sharp, unkind words he had once directed towards Copia's character and his ambitious projects years ago, back when the man was still a learning cardinal of his ministry.
Now, gazing at Copia, Jim's eyes softened, filled with a profound love and adoration. He was filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude, a deep appreciation for the unexpected blessing of this man in his life. He no longer pondered the mechanics of their union, whether it was a divine intervention or the evil one down blow that had brought them together. All that truly mattered was the undeniable reality that Copia was his, heart and soul.

Hi 😊 I was wondering if you had any headcanons about modern AU Buck and Bucky as pilots. What if they met at an air show? 😉 How would that go? What are they like?
Fam I love this concept so much but I STRUGGLED with this one! Mainly because I want to make Bucky a stunt pilot SOOO bad because he has exactly the personality to be doing insane stunts in something like an Extra 300 but those cockpits are TINY and really tall people don’t do well with aerobatics/G-forces without a g-suit so that’s not gonna work 😭
But that’s ok because I like my second idea even better: Bucky is on the Air Force F-35 Demo team and Gale is a ferry pilot who owns a Waco he flies for fun to shows around the country:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is soooo perfect for them individually! F-35 pilots are the cream of the crop, absolute jet-jockeys and I’m really leaning into Top Gun AU territory which I loooove. Bucky is a larger than life personality with a callsign like Rambo or something and is known for being an excellent pilot and leader. He loves doing the craziest and hardest stunts for crowds at air shows all over the country and LIVES for the excitement and drama.
Gale enjoys the much more relaxed and nostalgic flying. The job ferry pilot is moving aircraft around the country for people who have bought or sold or just planes that need to be moved for whatever reason. It’s interesting and fun and Gale loves seeing the country. But his pride and joy is the Waco biplane he owns that is in pristine condition. He loves the open cockpit and feeling the wind and seeing the beautiful views at a slow pace. He flies it to air shows around the country and camps in the grass with his plane along with others doing the same thing.
At one of these shows he runs into Bucky and some after-show event, maybe one of his employers gets him invited. The F-35 pilots are there and of course no one can miss Bucky’s presence. When they are introduced they hit it off and get to talking, and of course Gale is smitten but tries to hide it. Isn’t everyone smitten with these hot-shots? Why would Bucky be interested? But when he shows Bucky photos of his Waco Bucky is OBSESSED and begs to see it. It’s already dark so it’s easy to sneak out of the event tent and out to Gale’s plane. Bucky listens as Gale talks about his baby and is slowly melting in the face of his sweetness. They end up talking into the night and sitting on the grass under the wing to watch the night airshow and fireworks. (They might kiss, just maybe).
So what of it if Gale just so happens to show up at the events where Bucky is scheduled to perform? And so what if Bucky disappears to Wyoming on his time off? Pure coincidence. The first time Bucky gets a ride in the Waco he thought his heart would burst. It’s so beautiful and fun and Gale’s happy voice in his headset makes him want this forever.

airsLLide No. 1299: LN-WFK, DeHavilland Canada DHC-7-102, Widerøe, Bergen, July 10, 1987.
Norways long coastline - famous for its fjords - is lined with many settlements and towns, many of them not only accessible by road or in some cases rail, but also by local airfields or regional airports.
Founded by Wiggo Widerøe and befriended business partners in 1934, the airline of his name initially started its business with surveillance and medical flights, using Waco floatplanes. After WWII, and especially from the early 1960s when the Norwegian government built various regional airports along the rugged coast, Widerøe turned towards providing scheduled regional flights. As many of these airports were near mountaineous terrain and had short runways, Widerøe relied on aircraft with STOL short take-off and landing capabilities. Originally building its network with twin-engined DHC-6 Twin Otters, it became a major operator of the 50-seater DeHavilland Canada DHC-7 (also simply known as the Dash 7) from 1981 onwards, with a dozen units of the rugged STOL commuter serving Widerøe.
Today, Widerøe has become a subsidiary of low-cost-carrier Norwegian Air Shuttle, but continues to operate under its own, very reknown brand. The Dash 7 has since been replaced by the twin-engined successor DHC-8, now the backbone of Widerøe's fleet. As various airports in Northern Norway were upgraded to accomodate larger aircraft on incoming charter flights, STOL capabilities are only required in a few of the more remote destinations. Domestic trunk routes as well as international leisure flights are now even served with Embraer 195-E2s, Widerøe first jets.

The Ledge #575: Second Quarter Recap
With tonight's show being the last broadcast of June, and especially as it is also the last day of the month, it's pretty clear that it needed to be a second quarter recap. There's over two hours of great music that has come out in the last three months, similar to the first quarter recap show of March 31.
The material ranges from the fantastic power pop of Paint Fumes and Jagger Holly to veteran rockers such as Ian Hunter and The Waco Brothers. There's some rootsy rock and roll from Tommy Stinson, Deer Tick and The Baseball Project. The music comes from not only the usual US, UK, and Canadian artists but also from Australia, Austria, France, and Germany.
As for this week's "52 weeks of Teenage Kicks" series, I have a very special cover by German punkers Die Toten Hosen. Way back in the early 90s they had a fantastic covers record called Learning English, Lesson One, where they invited members of the original bands to assist them with their remakes. 2017 saw the relese of Learning English, Lesson Two that continued that format. For their version of "Teenage Kicks", they featured original Undertones guitarist Damian O'Neill! I also included the two brand new covers I had previously played over the last quarter by Jeremy Porter & The Tucos and The Waco Brothers.
As I do every week, I must again plead with y'all for more versions of "Teenage Kicks". If you are a musician, or have any contact with artists that could record their own take on the classic, please contact me!

After a banger of a warbird show on Thursday at EAA Airventure 2019, the day was closed out by 3 machines that shouldn’t have jet engines, but do: a big rig, a Waco biplane, and a custom-built mashup of two Russian Yak-55 aerobatic planes. Lots of noise and fire to close out a really fun day.
