Bollywood's random run of 'erotic thrillers' in the early 2000s (this movie was apparently ready in 2007, but didn't release till 2014 for some reason or another) ended up being, for the most part, a string of really badly filmed, really poorly acted, variably 'well' written stories (I mean, there are some pretty good stories overall, that sort get lost amidst the poor acting/scripts and the emphasis on 'skin show' over, well, everything).
This one really isn't much different - taking bits from Les Diaboliques (and the Bollywood remake, Kab? Kyoon? Aur Kahan?) and messing with it as necessary to make it slightly different. The twists are nothing new, or old, for Bollywood - the twisty "everyone is playing everyone" has really become the staple for this genre of movies. Of course, in this case, it is slightly different because it isn't really one overarching game being played - it's game after game, switching every instant because they all keep backstabbing each other. Until the end, when our leads suddenly have to from 'kicking butt' to 'damsels in distress' (of course, they'd sorta been in that role the whole movie anyways, outside for those like 5 minutes just before the end) and need to be saved.
The movie is, quite honestly, pretty painful - the story is dragged down by the by the acting. I mean, clearly this type of story, especially in 2007 (or even 2014) wasn't likely to attract any 'stars' from Bollywood, or even definite up-and-coming talents, so they did the next best thing - folks who were willing to act in such movies. They get their 5 minutes of fame, someone makes some money, and someone else gets ... well, to film/watch/direct such a story.
Of course, you knew it was going to be like this - painful acting (god, the constant yelling), poor editing, weird songs, random cutaway scenes that just features at-the-time Bollywood's new favorite obsession - on-screen making out - that just as quickly cut on to the next scene, cringe dialogues - but then, out of nowhere, they throw in a remix of the classic song 'Rangeela Re' from Prem Pujari. I love that song (not so much the beginning of this remix, with the shitty English lyrics), but I'm not sure how I feel about it finding place in this movie.
Mahek Chahal is cute, but she is unfortunately saddled with a really ridiculous character who spends most of the movie either screaming or crying and then, in her total shining moments, fails to hide from a supposed spirit/ghost inside a massive mansion because she just ends up finding ways to make noise (the part that takes the cake, of course, is when she moves along the floor and somehow manages to turn on the sink). The character's mannerisms also sorta grate after a point. And her seemingly suddenly falling in love amidst that Rangeela Re song, given everything that has happened before, is an absolute mind-fuck moment. Like, what in the world?!
Jyothi Rana has a bit less screen time, given that she's, you know, dead, for part of the movie, but she gets a lot more chance to show skin. Which, I mean, if that's what she was going for, she wins there. Her character doesn't get to be the one that learns kickboxing (though, honestly, Mahek's character gets 1 kick in before getting manhandled, so not sure how much it really helped her), but, on the other hand, she does get to be the one that is stuffed into a suitcase. Uh, if that counts as a win...
Tarun Arora's character, as the outright baddie from almost the start, is, well, bad. In multiple ways. He's an evil dude, for sure. And that Mahek's character falls for it, multiple times, tells you more about her character's naivety than it does about his character's smarts. He's also literally evil, and the set of scenes that happen around the time of the second disco visit are, while not shown at all, pretty horrific in what they tell us about him.
To some extent, the movie follows Mahek's character's psyche post-crime, much like we see in other classic novels/stories (Strangers on a Train, Malice Aforethought, Double Indemnity, etc.) - while she's not necessarily the perpetrator of the crime (more, the reason it happens, because of the aforementioned shit that is probably just Stockholm Syndrome to some extent), she does get easily coerced into helping with the cover-up (probably less 'love,' honestly, and more just that she is unable to literally do anything without asking first: see, for example, her unable to figure out what dress to wear to a disco without her husband's input after her first choice, which she picked only because he once said the color made him 'excited' - back when they were just newly-met acquaintances, mind you! - was burnt by a vengeful spirit). And then she falls apart mentally - multiple times. Over and over again. It's painful to watch, because while maybe it makes sense for a naive person to have this sort of reaction, it is ear-trauma to hear it happen over and over again on screen.
The whole bit with the cop was really random, especially since other than causing a few scares, he's essentially useless. Especially at the end, when all he does is call and say 'be careful; I've learned something' without explaining why or of what - and then he goes back to his yet-again out-of-order car.
I guess the 'the deal' in the title maybe refers to the deal between him and Annie - either the first time around or, after shit hits the fan, the second time around? Or maybe it's the deal between Annie and Nikita, which is also almost immediately voided? Or the marriage between him and Nikita, which at no point is actually a true marriage between them (because he's always got an ulterior motive). But I think that's the point - it is a horrible add-on to the title, because there is no deal at any point, ever. Two of the characters are completely selfish from the start, to the point where they don't care about anyone else at all and are willing to backstab anyone for their gain, whilst the third is so child-like that she can't make a decision for herself - even when it comes down to "get away from the guy abusing you" or "let him kill the person trying to help you and then help him cover it up."
This is way more words than I thought I would write about this movie. By a lot. Probably more than it deserves, too.
It is an absolutely ridiculous movie. Which is exactly what you expect if you, for some reason, decide to watch this movie. It's not good. It's not redeemable. It is an absolutely painful 2 hours. The voices, the songs, the dialogues - they're all grating. Dadaji telling Aryan to take his granddaughter (aka Aryan's new wife) to the disco is super disturbing. ... And it's not anywhere close to the worst Bollywood movie I've seen (including even movies with 'big name' actors/actresses).

"The Happy Nectar." From the Narasimha Uttara Upanishad. “The Exploration of the Mysteries of the Reply".
Tumblr media
From Chapter 2:
Meditation on the Holy Spirit as the Upanishad says, is the only way our past and future accomplishments will manifest as a pure personification of the Holy Spirit.
Without Him, we will return to bondage, to being slavers or enslaved by someone stupid, and then life will devolve.
And here begins Chapter 3: How should we meditate?
3.1 Meditate deeply on Pranava (Om) in the form of Chidagni (The fire within) which is in Agni Mandala (Orbit of fire) of the Mooladhara “the space inside between the genitals and the anoos” in the Maha Peeta (consisting of 4, 7 and 32 petal lotus) "the grandfather lotus" with its family of four worlds (Earth, atmosphere, heavens and moon world) and seven souls Loka-Veda-Devatha-Gana-Chanda-Agni-Vyahruthi, AKA “Humanity, Knowledge, God, the Song, the Wind, the Fire, the Magic Words”.
The Upanishads are not shy, are they?
It is true, the only other time the Self meditates without being forced, that is, is when one is during intercourse. Then all the worlds and souls achieve bliss, harmony, unity, and realization without any further prompting at all. It goes so far as to say experiencing intercourse is the "the Grandfather of Practice" and is superior to all the other forms of practice used to identifying the Self.
Notice the text does not specify any combinations of genders.
3.2 Then meditate on letter Aa which is the Chaturathma (4 souls- we've talked about this Aa, Uu, Mm, OM= "Knowledge of Vastness") and the Sapthathma (seven souls) as Brahma in the belly (Mani Pooraka, "inhalation of jewels"), on letter Uu as Vishnu in the heart (Aanahatha), on letter Ma as Rudra in the middle of eyelids (Aagna), on the dot which is the happy nectar form of the soul of Omkara (Sound of Om) in Dwadasantha (just above the eyes) and the soul (Athma) in the form of sound in Shodasantha "the sixteen parts."
To "take the happy nectar", according to the sages, is to know all the gods and all of their blessed properties throughout the body. Full appreciation of this is a must if one is to become fully acquainted with God as an embodied and also a disembodied Holy Spirit.
To show gladness for the gift of intercourse is in fact said to be synonymous with worship of Him:
3.3 Thus after worshipping with nectar (Ananda Amrutha) the four-fold Brahmas (Devatha, Teacher, Mantra and the soul), Vishnu, Rudra separately and then together in the form of Linga with offerings and then unifying the linga forms in the Atma Jyothi (Light of the soul) and filling up the macro, micro and causal bodies with this light, we have to unify Atma Jyothi which is their basis with macro, micro, root and witness properties.
All God asks of one worshipping with nectar are invocations to Vishnu (Grace) and Rudra, "Kindness", Linga, "the image of a god", unity with the image of a god, ruff, and "lighting of the soul" by filling the bodies.
Without this kind of glorification of God through the worship of another person's body, the role of the Witness, the soul, will not be fulfilled:
3.4 Afterwards adjust the very gross Virat "manly" form in the very micro-Hiranyagarbha "tiny golden birth" form, and this micro form in the great causal Iswara form "Cosmic Form" and after arranging the mantras similarly, and meditating on “Otha-Anuj-Jnathru-Anugna-Avikalpa” AKA "summon a younger brother and summon the Three Persons, in non-consecutive stages without hesitation", merging all this in to the Omkara (sound of Om) in Thuriya, we reach the Nirvikalpa Paramathma (formless great truth).
Recall the reason this Upanishad, "the Reply" was written was because the sage asked Brahma, "What is the nature of the soul?"
Also recall the discussion takes place under the auspices of the Wrath of God, the Narasimha, the Great Enemy of Tyranny.
Much trouble over intercourse has befallen mankind because tyrants use it as way to scare and oppress everyone. No one is safe from being ridiculed or controlled by losers over the fact the body and soul need to couple with others. This was not lost on the authors of the Upanishads and here they are telling us to break free of all bondage to delusions about intercourse and their enforcers, and embrace how important romance is to realizing the Self.

Family and Fans Bids Farewell to KK amidst moist eyes
Tumblr media
The whole of India got in shock when the news of death of Bollywood singer Krishnakumar Kunath better known as KK surfaced up. According to the sources KK was performing a stage show at the iconic Nazrul Mancha Auditorium, Kolkata and after the show was over, KK was feeling unwell and returned to the hotel. After returning to hotel where his condition deteriorated and he was taken to hospital where he was declared death. Doctors believed the reason of death is heart attack. The news came as a shocker and tributes started pouring in from all over. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted,
“Saddened by the untimely demise of noted singer Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK. His songs reflected a wide range of emotions as struck a chord with people of all age groups. We will always remember him through his songs. Condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti,”.
Many Bollywood celebrities like Akshay Kumar, Armaan Malik, Rahul Vaidya, Anu Malik, Pritam, Onir, Shreya Ghoshal, Emraan Hashmi,Harshdeep Kaur, Shekhar Ravjiani etc paid their last tributes to him and expressed grief at his sudden demise.
KK was born in a Malayalam family in Delhi in 1968 and always aspired to be a singer. He started his career with singing jingles in ad promos and later he shifted to Mumbai and his big break came when he sang the song ‘Chod Aaye Hum Woh Galiyan’ for the movie Maachis. He gained popularity with the song “Tadap Tadap ke” from the Sanjay Leele Bhansali directed movie Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and after the success of the song there was no looking back for KK. He sang songs in many Indian languages like Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi and Bengali. He was one of finest Bollywood singer who gave many hits throughout his career and mesmerized listeners with his soothing and beautiful voice.
Friendship, love and nostalgia were important themes in KK’s songs and it reflected in his songs like the soulful Pal (Moment) and Yaaron (Friends). These two songs kind of became anthem during farewell in schools and colleges and for people who were grown up in 90s and 2000s, these two songs will always be part of their memories which they will cherish forever. His death has left a huge void in the music scenario of India that can’t be fulfilled ever. His partnership with music directors like Pritam and Vishal-Shekhar gave us gems like Aankhon main teri, Labo ko Labo Se, Tu Aashiqui Hai, Khuda Jaane, Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai, Kya Mujhe Pyaar, Dus Bahane and many more.
KK is survived by wife Jyothy Krishna and his son Nakul and daughter Taamara. His body was brought back to Mumbai where his son performed the last rites on 3rd June and many well-known people Hariharan, Javed Ali, Alka Yagnik, Rekha Bhardwaj ,Vishal Bhardwaj, Kabir Khan, Himansh Kohli and others came to pay their last respects. Today when KK will not among us physically, he will live forever in our hearts with his songs.

For years, the voice that delighted us, made us sad and happy, dance and jump, faints today. Singer KK died at the age of 53 following a concert in Kolkata. After the concert in Kolkata's Nazrul Mancha auditorium, the 53-year-old singer fell down the stairs at the hotel where he was staying. Singer Krishnakumar Kunnath aka KK died in Kolkata after falling ill at a Gurudas College-organized concert in Kolkata's Nazrul Manch auditorium. KK was reportedly feeling uneasy after the concert and fell down the stairs at the hotel where he was staying following his performance in Kolkata. The singer was then rushed to the hospital and died around 10 p.m. at Kolkata's CMRI Hospital. KK, according to multiple reports, has died of a massive heart attack. It has also been revealed that KK became ill while performing at the concert. Earlier, the singer took to Instagram to share photos from the concert. KK, one of the most well-known singers in Indian cinema, has many wonderful songs in his repertoire. The singer was known for his versatility, which ranged from the Hindi song 'Yaaron' to the Telugu song 'Cheliya Cheliya.' He has recorded songs in several languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Bengali. The singer is survived by his wife Jyothi Krishna and children Kunnath Nakul and Kunnath Taamara. It's a tragedy that proficient singer KK is no longer alive. Our heartfelt condolences go out to family, friends, and fans. https://www.instagram.com/p/CeQQKips6bD/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
