I don't know why but I always come back to this scene. We never get to see him at a loss and confused on what he was. Guess this is why this page from Shin Spirits hits me like a truck.
Hayato has the same emotional insecurity as Hongo does, it's just he's better at masking it. Take that as you will I guess. But there's something about him not feeling as sure as himself as a Rider that makes it every time he fails and gets absolutely beaten down by Tachihbana hurt that much more. I wonder if Hayato is the type of person who stares alone into the ocean at night questioning his reason for living. I think so, if you ask me.

Scribbly panel redraw bc this is one of my favorite scenes and I'm seriously considering redrawing all of it
I love his expression in this panel so much I absolutely didn't do it justice

Spoilers for the Spirits manga
Hiroshi seeing himself as The Help and therefore not as good or important as Kazuya who he thinks of as the one doing all the work and therefore the one who matters more meanwhile Kazuya when Hiroshi goes missing after the end of the In Space arc absolutely refuses to leave his friend to an unknown fate and jumps out of a freaking space shuttle to save Hiroshi oh their relationship makes my heart to sort
Both of them are written so accurate to their canon depictions too like I can absolutely understand considering everything that happened in Skyrider why Hiroshi would think of himself as just not that good or important a Rider
