I’m a sucker for angst >:]
Can you give me some headcanons of everyone (mostly Rin) grieving process of Obito’s “death”? Like what are the depressing habits they do after the events of kannabi bridge?
Now this is an AWESOME ask!
First, I'd like to point out that I absolutely fucking hate how we only got to see Kakashi's trauma and none of Rin's trauma. They made it look like she immediately got over what happened while Kakashi ate all the crap that shat down from the aftermath.
I'm just going to fix that up and write what happened with Rin since we already saw Kakashi:
!! TW: PTSD and Dark Themes !!
-Nightmares and heavy breakdowns and drowning in sorrow and despair would be Rin's everyday life after Kannabi. She would see Obito's crushed body in her dreams. Every night she is awake sitting on the bathroom floor sobbing heavily while the shower is on so that no one can hear her weeping.
-Rin would go through emotional withdrawal, mindlessly be walking around, ignoring her friends that are calling out to her, forgetting about Kakashi who is also going through hell, because all she could think about was Obito. She has not fully registered that Obito is dead and gone, so she find herself in the training grounds, thinking that she'll see Obito training and practicing shuriken jutsu. But no. She is once again reminded that she will no longer be seeing that. The training grounds just feels soulless.. and gray... and it only makes Rin fall onto her knees and wail and scream out Obito's name.
-Because of her "survivor's guilt", she stops practicing medical ninjutsu for a while. The idea of needing to heal and perform any surgery or minor stitch will just make her catatonic as she relives what she did with Obito and Kakashi's eye. Rin becomes out of commission for a while and not even her parents, or Minato, can push her to move on and try to do other missions.
-She sits by his grave everyday, talking to him as she holds his goggles tightly, asking Why did he always have to be so selfless and put others before him? And that she wanted to watch him become a great ninja.. and become the Hokage.. and that she is so angry at him for dying and leaving her alone. Yes, that's right, she feels alone because Obito was the one person that knew her the most since they were very young. She was closer to him than Kakashi even if she developed an attraction towards Kakashi and thought she knew Kakashi better.
-She apologizes to him profusely every time she visits his grave, for all the times he felt neglected by her and for all the times that she focused on Kakashi than him. She apologizes for being so idiotic and wronging him in the sense that she thought Kakashi would be the type to rescue her when he was the type to prioritize missions - and Obito was the type that would always jump in to save her and be there for her.
-Self-blame comes easy, where she hates herself for being so weak that she had to get kidnapped and rely on them to save her. Where she hates herself because if it wasn't for her none of this would've happened and that she should've trained to get stronger instead of focusing on only being a mere healer.
-Rin changes his flowers for him during her visits and makes his favorite food every now and then as an offering, only to end up being overtaken by her emotions and breaking down and sobbing.
-Her nightmares make her wake up in the middle of the night, screaming his name as she relives the time when her eyes landed on his body crushed by the boulder. She could also hear his pain and anguish ringing in her ears as she was removing his left eyes to transplant it into Kakashi's, and she ends up curling onto herself or running to the bathroom to throw up because the memory was still too fresh and too overwhelming to handle.
-She eventually ends up putting on a fake smile in front of her parents and everyone in the village, including Minato, because eventually she needs to get back on her own two feet and survive. Even when she resumes medical ninjutsu, she avoids performing surgeries and would just do first-aid tasks.
-After a whole day of putting on a fake smile and mask in front of her friends and peers and parents, she would lay back on her bed and just think about Obito, and sometimes hold onto the picture of Team Minato as she ruminates about the past. She often wonders if she would return Obito's feelings for her had he confessed, and would then spiral into self-blame because she gave Kakashi the attention that Obito deserved the most.
-She doesn't eat much nor does she sleep much and just isolates herself from everyone. Her mind would always be occupied with Obito. She would isolate herself either in her room, or by sitting on the shores of her favorite lake/pond/anywhere where no one gets to see her or talk to her.
-She ends up resenting the sight of the elderly for a temporary while because it just reminds her of the fact that Obito, the sweetest boy alive, is not there to help them carry their things. Eventually she ends up helping them a few times just because she senses Obito's presence, asking her to do it for his sake.
-The topic of Kannabi is never brought up to her. Instead, Rin would just question what it means to be a shinobi and if everything she's learned was worth it when she only brought more pain to her best friend and relief to another. She would question why do wars exist and why can't each village/clan just be peaceful with each other.
Rin just ends up dealing with a lot of pain, sorrow, misery and heartbreak because she lost Obito Uchiha, the truest person she knew and the one that could've been the Hokage that she wanted to see for the rest of her life.
--
that's all for now! thanks for asking! I hope this satisfied you, let me know what you think and don't hesitate to share ideas! :)

[this video destroyed me today]
P.S. Kushina and Minato had a huge-ass photo album with the kids' photos.. and there was a whole Obito centerfold...

see, the thing about Hidan is he is presented as kind of a one note character. Funny murder man who yells a lot and screams about his death cult. Fantastic. Love that for him.
but the other thing about Hidan is that the akatsuki is almost* entirely composed of people who were fucked over by the system in some way, so if he was JUST a funny murder man, he would be an outlier. (*zetsu does NOT count)
and the other other thing about Hidan is that Jashinism is explicitly about shared suffering. Hidan feels all of it. Hidan revels in all of it. Hidan believes that the bond of suffering is where humans truly understand one another on a fundamental level. He's not just killing and sacrificing people, he's sacrificing himself. He just gets back up.
And given that Pein & Konan's goals as the akatsuki are to crush the world with war the same way that Ame was crushed by war, and Yugakure went from a shinobi village to a hot springs town, implying they lost so much manpower that they literally couldn't function with a ninja-based economy anymore... hey, Hidan? What suffering have you experienced, that you want to share with others?
I want to understand you, Hidan.

Obito-lives-instead-of-Kakashi AUs are great and all but I'd like to remind everyone that this team was a TRIO of kids. Therefore, considering Obito saved his buddy (Kakashi) and then asked him to protect his poor little meow meow (Rin):
Rin would save her buddy (Obito) and then ask him to protect her poor little meow meow (Kakashi).
While Kakashi would save his buddy (Rin) and then ask her to protect his poor little idiot meow meow (Obito).
Rin meeting Madara would be fascinating. Madara would want to manipulate her into getting Obito to help him, or at least be bait, right? But no way would Rin even consider his shit until she sees Kakashi rip out his own heart out in front of Obito. She'd realize that Obito is the target. Her best, last, only friend. Loyalty to the village took Kakashi away from her—she is not losing Obito. And definitely not in a situation where it would be her fault again. She'd have one bargaining chip: she's the Tony Stark of medicine (a magic eye transplant! in a cave! with a box of scraps!) and Madara hasn't seen a medical professional since the founding of Konoha. She can't heal him or anything (absolutely not, that would take away from her badass villainous screentime) but she can keep him in a near-immortal vegetative state, enough for him to keep the Rinnegan, maybe pop his head up/get Zetsu'd during emergencies, and not even need resurrecting in the future. In return for helping Madara brainwash the world, of course. Intrigued—and also Obito just unlocked his Mangekyou and obliterated everything in the vicinity and then vanished, so he's out of reach for now—Madara takes the deal.
Kakashi meeting Madara would be a lot different, however, because we're only changing the rocks-fall-somebody-dies scene. Kakashi's already had his Turning Point Moment with Obito. Even when he sees Obito kill himself, he's jammed in friends-first mode and there isn't a crowbar in the world big enough to wedge him out of it. Obito killing himself to avoid capture would just cement it. So instead we say that Hatake blood, a little like Uzumaki blood, is special—it allows them to survive things like Sharingan transplants. So, through kinjutsus and Zetsus and whatever else he could cobble together, Madara flat-out forces Kakashi to be the enacter of his plan. After all Kakashi has always been a weapon, first and foremost, his own soul set aside. It's really just more of the same.
These work for the final battle, especially. In canon, Kakashi is all about legacy and the parts of himself which is made of other people. Obito, original owner of his eye and most of his philosophy, is therefore the perfect foil. (And Naruto, who is strengthened by that same legacy but not strangled by it, is the hero.)
Rin would be a villain in the same vein as Sasori. She's been puppeting Madara's almost-corpse around, a nightmarish necromancer and her pet zombie. But conversely, Madara has also been puppeting her through their deal. She works as a foil because Obito wants to be (or is?) Hokage, puppetmaster of Konoha, and the Uchiha (mostly alive, probably) want to puppet Obito on the throne. It's all about control. (And Naruto, who wants to be Hokage too but is free and upright and has thrown off his shackles, is the hero.)
Kakashi as a foil would build on the body-horror from Danzo's fight. He'd have Madara's Rinnegan, Obito's Mangekyou, other Sharingan in Hashirama's body parts, bits of Zetsu grafted on, cursed seals on his heart and neck and spine, tailed beast parts if available, and whatever else anyone could find. It's the opposite of Rin, medicine used to harm instead of heal. It would be about the failure, and the damage caused by a self-centred saviour. (And Naruto, who was failed but saved others, the selfless helping hand, is the hero.)

i want a fic about post-kannabi bridge kakashi actually using obito's eye to record happy moments and beautiful sights and things that he thinks obito would enjoy. i want a fic where kakashi uses the sharingan as more than just a tool, where it isnt reduced to a weapon, where it does more than burden him with guilt.

A tiny drabble for the CUTEYOMI collection. @maireyart and i have been posting our short obkk stories on ao3; come say hi <3
My Favorite Cupcake
[obkk, insecure Obito, jonin parties, Kakashi has a plan, comfort, and cupcakes]
“Are you sure I’m invited?” Obito was walking next to Kakashi down a busy street of Konoha, gloved hands in pockets for extra warmth. He was starting to shiver, partly from the chilly autumn wind and partly from anxiety starting to creep on him.
“Huh? Why wouldn’t you be? Anko actually asked if you could be at her party tonight. Don’t overthink it, I was there.”
“Exactly…” Obito said quietly and dropped his gaze to the crunchy leaves on the ground. “Did you tell her to invite me?”
“No, totally her initiative,” Kakashi said, studying the visible part of his friend’s face. “What’s got into you?”
“I … I just. I… don’t know her too well. Seemed strange.”
“But you said you were looking forward to it. Everyone is finally back from their missions. We don’t usually have a chance to hang out all together like that. It’ll be fun.” Kakashi nudged him with his right elbow, softly hitting Obito’s leg with a plastic bag.
“What are we bringing by the way?” Obito took the bag from Kakashi’s cold hand and thoroughly inspected what he had picked from the store. Some booze, some snacks, and, surprisingly, a couple of blueberry cupcakes.
“Obito, no. Put them back.”
“But they are my favorite!”
“Obito, come on, don’t make your puppy eyes at me. Anko asked for these specifically.”
“Oh, Bakashi! Could’ve bought more for me too…” Frustrated and suddenly hungry, Obito grabbed the first bottle his hand landed on and gave the bag back to Kakashi. He knew that drinking on an empty stomach was not the best idea, but it would make his anxiety go away, and he’d stop shivering. He took a few gulps of what turned out to be wine.
“Your decision-making is… perplexing tonight,” Kakashi said, half worried, half amused.
They walked in silence for a while. The setting sun did little to warm the fresh September air, but the warmth was still there in the yellow and orange of the leaves covering the village.
“I want to go. I really do. Everybody says that I need to socialize more…”
“But?”
“Well… they’re all nice at first, but after a couple of drinks they gang up on me. I always end up being the laughingstock of the party somehow. ” Obito slowed down the pace and had some more wine from the bottle to keep the anxiety in check. “I know I’m not the prettiest guy, and I have some funny tics, but I wish people would just let it go already.”
“Hey,” Kakashi stopped and put his arm around Obito’s shoulders, making sure that his friend wasn’t startled by this. He pressed his temple against Obito’s curls and quietly said, “Nobody means to mock you. They just didn’t know how to react at first, making silly jokes to cope. And it turned into a habit. Just tell them that you don’t like it, and they’ll stop.” Suddenly, Obito was warm. But not as much from the half-embrace as from the comforting voice that had been his anchor for years through the recovery. After a minute, the cool air again filled the distance between them and they continued their walk.
“I hope it’s not gonna be a game night,” Obito resumed.
“You like playing board games.”
“That I do. It’s their pervy 'Truth or dare' thing that I hate. Why should it always be about sex?”
“You can just not play, if it makes you uncomfortable.”
“Not an option. If you refuse to play, it means you’re either a wuss, or hiding something embarrassing.”
Kakashi snatched the bottle from Obito before he could take another gulp. “Don’t let anyone bully you into things you don’t want to do.”
“Then give me my wine back, you big bully!” Obito said, with his usual grin finally making an appearance.
Kakashi considered something for a second and then promptly asked, “Do you want to practice?”
“Huh? Practice what?”
“Obito, truth or dare?”
“Erm... Okay. Dare!” The safe choice. Even with Kakashi, “truth” was not something he was ready to go for.
“Okay. Ditch the party.”
“Wha..? I’ve just told you that I was tired of jokes like—”
“No, not like that! I dare you to ditch the party and go somewhere less crowded instead. My place or yours. We have the food and the drinks,” Kakashi pointed at the bag. “You can have all the cupcakes.”
Obito beamed at Kakashi and trapped him in a tight hug without letting the other open his arms. Kakashi’s hand, at first pressed against Obito’s chest, made its way up to rest on his nape.
"Thank you," Obito mumbled into the crook of Kakashi’s neck. “I like this game better now.”
*** “Who had Kakashi and Obito bailing on us tonight?” asked Asuma, smirking.
“Everyone except Anko!” replied Kurenai and Aoba gleefully.
“Oh, come on! Am I supposed to pay everyone? They said they’d come!”
“Naaah, your loss, darling,” said Genma landing on the balcony of Anko’s apartment. “Just saw them heading to the Uchiha district, looking pretty happy. That Hatake bastard, he knows his game.”
“Do not disrespect my rival, Genma! And shush!”
“As if it’s a secret, Gai! Everything is as clear as day. How can Obito be so clueless!”
“And don’t you disrespect my rival’s precious person!”
