Sakurai Mina is based on Minty Sakura from Wreck It Ralph. She is a 28 year old human, Scoopadoop employee, and uses she/her pronouns. She has no powers. Mina is portrayed by Karen Fukuhara and she is open.

CATCHING MY DEATH, AND I COULDN’T BE SURE

Everyone knew Sakurai Mina — well, knew of her, that was. She wouldn't say that it went to her head, being the loudest name shouted out by entire stadiums of screaming people... but from the moment she hit the track at twenty years old, she was thrown directly into stardom, and she quickly grew used to all of the attention. The flowers, the gifts, the pictures and the autographs. She was good, fast and observant, but more than that, she had a shining personality that her fans adored. Leaving Japan was only meant to be for the short term, a week long trip like she had taken before. She never imagined the car taking her from the airport to her hotel would stop in a small town this time, and just... never leave. Someone that could usually find the bright side, Mina wasn't sure how to positively spin this one. At first she was in denial. Evermore residents were telling her that she was stuck here. Trapped. Away from her friends, her family, her fans. No matter how dedicated she was to finding an out, there wasn't one. It was a hard pill to swallow, but she had no other choice. So... she accepted it, the best that she could. It was strange to feel like she was starting over in the middle of an already successful career. Not only were the tracks and the crowds smaller here, not even the biggest fans of the sport seemed to recognize Mina. Being a racecar driver didn't pay quite as well, either. Without access to her bank account, for the first time in eight years she found herself working a regular job, serving ice cream at one of the local parlors. It certainly wasn't the glitz and glamour she'd grown accustomed to over the last few years, but she told herself at least she could still race, even if now the only one cheering her on... was herself.

Both knowing what it's like to be on the top, the last thing Mina wants is someone to think she acts anything like that. ❀ Cosmo Cosma: Her boss, Mina is grateful that he was willing to give her a job. It's not as entertaining as flying down a racetrack... but it's not awful, by any means. ❀ Gene Iglesias: She's been to one of their shows, and she's pretty sure she's never laughed so hard in her life. Maybe next time she'll compliment them after their set.

It’s fucking hard, being totally head-over-heels in love with your boss. But you make due.

After all, what else can you do? You need this job to make ends meet, and you know no other employers would treat you as well as Matt and Foggy do. The whole having-a-huge-and-basically-unbearable-crush-on-your-boss thing? It’s manageable in light of all that.

Besides, it’s not exactly his fault. Sure, sometimes it seems like he’s flirting. And sure, he’s so handsome it physically hurts. But he’s never made a move, and he’s never really done anything that couldn’t be considered normal in light of how he interacts with everyone else.

But god, do you want him to be flirting with you. You want every little brush and touch to be purposeful, not just some accident or him trying to keep his balance. You want him to want you.

So yeah, work is a little difficult, to say the least.

The hardest part is that sometimes, it seems like he’s doing it on purpose. That’s he’s testing you, seeing how far he can push you before you snap and make the move that you’re unaware he’s been wanting to make for ages.

Well, two can certainly play that game.

It becomes a heated battle, full of tension and longing. Everyone else in the office seems to be aware of it, yet the two of you are oblivious to the others’ feelings.

And it goes on for months.

Foggy and Karen are just about to smack you both upside the head when Matt finally decides to give up the pretense of being a respectful boss.

It starts because he “accidentally” overhears a conversation in the break room.

“Why don’t you just make a move,” Karen asks you. “It’s clear he’s head over heels for you.”

“I wish it was that simple,” you tell her. “He’s my boss, Karen. If I knew for sure it wasn’t just friendly flirtation, maybe. But I don’t want to make a move without knowing he’s actually interested in something serious. I love working here, I don’t want to put my career in jeopardy.”

“Trust me, he’s into you.” Karen uses a pointed tone that goes right over your head but is painfully obvious to Matt. She’s totally aware that he can hear the conversation from the confines of his office, after all, and you aren’t. This statement is more for his ears than yours. “Maybe he’ll smarten up and make the first move.”

The tone of your voice as you laugh a little dryly and say, “a girl can dream,” is exactly what convinces him to take the plunge.

It’s carefully thought out. And by that, I mean he thinks about what he’s going to do for days and has a plan in mind and then the second he tries to put it into action, his mind completely blanks and he’s suddenly flying by the seat of his pants.

He corners you in the break room while Foggy and Karen are out on assignment, quiet for a solid few seconds to the point that it makes you nervous. He’s towering over you and he almost looks angry—did you do something wrong? Are you about to get fired?

“I think this has gone far enough,” he tells you, voice dark and raspy.

“W-what?” It comes out as more of a squeak than an actual question, and you hate yourself for getting so easily flustered.

“You know exactly what.” He takes a step closer, loosens his tie a little bit, and suddenly you’re not so worried that you’re about to be fired. It’s hard to believe this is him making a move, though—after how long the back and forth has gone on, you don’t want to get your hopes up that this is about to become something more.

“Matt…”

“If you don’t want this, just tell me right now and we’ll forget it,” he whispers, close enough that you feel his warm, minty breath against your neck. “But say you want me, and I’m yours.”

You have to refrain from pinching yourself, because this is every good dream you’ve had for months. It doesn’t feel real. You’re not this lucky.

You put your hand against his chest, feel the warm and hard muscle underneath his silky button-up shirt, and suddenly this is real. You’re within kissing distance of the man you’ve wanted to kiss more than anyone else in your life.

He takes the touch as a cue, leans down and rests his forehead against yours so you can feel just the barest whisper of breath against your lips. It’s as if he moves in slow motion, giving you ample time to pull away if you don’t want this.

But you do, more than anything. So you take the initiative and pull him in by the collar; kiss him with all the desperation that’s been building over the past few months. Nothing has ever felt so right.

You’re not even embarrassed when Foggy bursts in mid-kiss and screams “FINALLY!!” You just smile against Matt’s lips, and you can feel his own smile as his hands on your waist pull you in closer.

In the course of the night Foggy comes to your bed and cuddles up in the middle. Matt is not quite lucid the next morning and does not notice that Foggy is in bed with him and kisses him, after the kiss he is wide awake and realizes what is going on.

Summary: After a night at Josie's, Foggy spends the night. When Matt wakes up the next day to kiss you good morning, he soon realizes that it's not you who is lying next to him but rather Foggy himself.

Warnings: None? Maybe some alcohol consumption and hints at smut, but nothing explicit.

Three drunk adults stumbling through the front door sounds like a disaster waiting to happen, especially when one of them is blind and intoxicated.

After a successful day in court, it was Foggy’s idea to spend the night at Josie’s. Karen left early, but you, Matt, and Foggy stayed behind. The evening went well, you chatted and you laughed until Foggy ordered the bottle of eel he and Karen drank on their first night at Josie’s together. He was the first one drunk. You, being able to hold your liquor, took a while longer, but the strong alcohol eventually caught up with you too. Matt, who had sworn in the beginning that he would stay sober, knowing that either you or Foggy would end up dancing on Josie’s bar counter if he didn’t look after you, had one too many glasses of the ghastly grey liquor and eventually joined into your drunk babbling.

It was your idea to split the last half of the bottle by doing a drinking game. For every object Matt bumped into on his drunk way to the restroom, you all had to take a shot. All of that happened because Foggy decided to tell the story of their time in college together for the millionth time and you, being anything but lucid, decided to make fun of it. In the end, all three of you were drunk off your asses. Josie called a cab for you, but even then you barely made it to the front door.

You turn on the lights in the living room. Behind you, Matt is trying to sound as sober as possible when he says, “Foggy, you’re sleeping on the couch.”

Foggy misses the uncomfortable leather furniture by a few inches and drops to the floor. As soon as his body hits the carpet, he’s dead asleep. You burst out laughing, not sure why you find it so funny, but Matt soon joins in.

Not only ten minutes later, you are dead asleep in your shared bed, Matt on one side and you on the other. In your drunken haze, the thought of cuddling evades you. You’re only happy to finally be lying down, and then sleep catches up with you already.

Matt’s sleep is dreamless. The alcohol lulls his senses and drags his body down. The city isn’t as loud, but his heartbeat thuds in his ears, and when the sun rises in the east the next morning, the headache starts before he even wakes up.

Stirring, he rubs his tired eyes. He can’t remember how he made it to bed the previous night, but he can feel the warmth next to him. You. He’s gotten used to waking up before you, rolling over, and pressing a kiss to your lips to wake you up. Sometimes he would kiss your cheek or your neck, or he would pull you in to cuddle a little while longer. This morning, he decides to do it the old-fashioned way.

With a groan, Matt rolls over and kisses your sleeping form. As soon as his lips find home, he notices something different. For one, you don’t stir. Two, you don’t taste like your minty toothpaste that he is sure you used even though you were drunk off your ass the previous night. And three, your lips are supposed to be far plumber than the ones he is touching.

He’s not sure why he opens his eyes, but the shock settles in as soon as he uses his hand to touch the person next to him. He recognizes them, but it’s not you. While your scent is close to him, there seems to be someone between the two of you, and your lips are far away from where he can touch them.

The person next to him finally stirs. It takes a second, and Matt starts realizing who is lying next to him. The realization turns into shock, and the person next to him shoots up as soon as he’s opened his eyes and sees his best friend hovering above him.

“What the fuck?!” Foggy screeches and sits up.

The shrill sound of his voice sends a sharp headache through both of their heads, but Matt’s cheeks are already burning enough for him to only focus on the feeling of shame. Not because of the realization that he kissed Foggy good morning but because he kissed his best friend instead of the love of his life.

He stammers, “Uh…”

“Did you just-”

“Well…” Matt trails off.

“Dude!” Foggy says. He is wide awake, his hangover momentarily moving into the background, and Matt does the same.

They stare at each other, their cheeks bright red.

“I’m sorry!” he tries to defend himself. “You’re not supposed to be here! I thought you were-” He points to the side of the bed where he suspects you are, and Foggy only sneers.

“Do I look like I am?”

“How am I supposed to know what you look like?”

“Oh, my God!”

“What the hell are you doing in our bed?!”

“What the hell are you doing kissing me?!”

“I told you, I was-”

The door to the bedroom opens, cutting the conversation short. Matt hears your heartbeat, the soft shifting of his shirt against your bare skin. Foggy catches a glimpse of your face, looks beside him, then back at you. They both look guilty, caught in an act that wasn’t even intentional.

Your eyes switch from Foggy to your boyfriend, and then back at Foggy. “What’s going on?” you ask.

Instantly, their fingers go up and point at the other. “He kissed me,” Foggy says.

“I thought he was you,” Matt shoots back.

“I obviously am not!”

“I notice that now, thank you!”

You look between them again, your expression unreadable.

“I’m so sorry,” Matt prompts.

His apology is cut short by the clear sound of your laughter filling the room. It breaks through the awkwardness but paints his cheeks redder nonetheless.

“You did what now?” you ask, your voice still shrill with laughter, and it does wonders to wake their hungover brains.

“I’m sorry, I really thought it was you, I-”

“What?” You wipe some of the tears that had slipped you while laughing. “Me? Please!” You burst into even more laughter, your breath turning into a wheeze. “Oh, my God! I can’t-”

“It was entirely on him,” Foggy adds, pushing the invisible blame away from him.

Matt glares at him. “On me? You came into our bed in the middle of the night without a warning!”

“I was cold.”

“Then get a blanket!”

“Guys,” you’re still giggling, but your voice still manages to shut them up. “Guys, calm down. It’s okay,” you say. “Let’s just take a step back here. Matt accidentally kissed you, Foggy because he thought it was me. It was an honest mistake.” You look at Foggy, your lip turned upward into an amused grin. “And let’s be honest here, coming into our bed in the middle of the night is a new level of comfort, even for you.”

Foggy shrugs. “Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do,” he says.

Matt listens to your heartbeat, seeing no sign of a lie. Still, he swallows. “Are you sure you’re not upset?” he asks. “I promise I didn’t mean to-”

You sigh and climb back into bed between them, roughly shoving Foggy aside. Leaning over, you press a kiss to his lips. “Good morning,” you say, trying to somehow clean up the mess they’ve made.

He licks his lips. “You taste good,” he murmurs, “but I can still taste Foggy.”

You try your hardest not to burst out laughing again. “I’m sorry,” you choke out, “But this is by far the funniest thing I’ve ever heard. Wait until I tell Karen about this.”

Matt’s eyes widen and Foggy screams at the same time he does, “NO!”

“Yes,” you say.

He drops his head in his hands and you take him into your arms, still chuckling.

“She’s never going to let us hear the end of this,” Foggy says, his eyes as wide as if he’s seen a ghost. And maybe he did.

“That’s the whole point.”

“I hate you,” Matt groans into your chest.

You pat his back. “I know. Let’s just be happy it was just a kiss and nothing more… intimate,” you say.

Foggy cringes. “Yeah, let’s not even go there.”

“Seriously, that’s the most innocent way he wakes me up, sometimes he uses his mouth in other places-”

He doesn’t hesitate to jump off the mattress. “Gross!” He heads for the living room. “I’m out, I don’t need to hear this. Bye!”

Matt looks up, his cheeks the deepest red you have ever seen. When you meet his eyes, a mischievous smile on your lips, he shakes his head. “Was that necessary?” he asks.

“You know you love me,” you say.

He sighs. “I do.”

When you lean forward to kiss him again, he stops you. “I need to brush my teeth.”

“Why?”

This time, he makes sure to say it loud enough for Foggy to hear it, “‘Cause Foggy’s breath smells.”

In response, one of the couch pillows flies its way into the bedroom. You giggle again, knowing that this story is definitely not going to waste.

warnings: this contains so much fluff & cuteness, but also might have bad writing if you really squint

he would definitely love watching you play instruments in his free time. you would usually sit in the love seat across from the couch in his apartment, perched with your instrument of choice, which was usually your ukulele or guitar since they were matthew’s favourite. he would lay on the couch on his side, body turned to your direction with a happy smile on his face as he heard the tunes you’d strum, along with your mumbling of lyrics.

“you sound really good, honey” “you say that every time, matty” “it’s the truth!”. you’d be a hot mess afterwards.

hearing you sing in the shower was one of matthew’s favourite things to hear. the running water mixed with your voice always sounded so relaxing. you had a habit of bringing a speaker into the bathroom when you’d shower, playing music from your carefully assorted spotify playlists & singing your heart out as you washed your hair & body. being in the shower with you was a whole other slice of heaven, hearing you sing melodies as you pressed yourself close to matthew so intimately—it gave him goosebumps every time.

you would often taste like buckley’s cough syrup, hot chocolate & honey from all the remedies you’d use to soothe your voice after a tiring gig. He didn’t mind it at all, at least the hot chocolate & honey— buckley’s was just straight up gross. so, matthew would often buy you your favourite cough drops (which happened to be berry flavoured ricola & the assorted minty pack of halls) instead since the taste of buckleys began to make his nose hurt.

he’d pepper kisses on the fingers on your left hand since they’d grow tired/stiff from holding down the strings so often & they’d get little scars/mini callouses from all the constant playing.

“matt, you don’t have to do that” “but I want to baby, you work them so much”

he’d definitely attend as many of your gigs as he could, sometimes he’d even just listen from nearby rooftops when his patrolling clashed with one of your performances. the man would be committed!!! he’d also take foggy & karen with him quite often & they’d all treat you afterwards at josie’s with a few rounds of shots.

matthew would call you his superstar & it is the CUTEST THING.

“hey, superstar” “my little superstar” BRO???!!!!!

he’d definitely shorten it down sometimes to “star”, like how logan from gilmore girls would call Rory “ace”.

“star, i love you" THAT SOUNDS SO ODD BUT CUTE.

he’d constantly get a little sad about not being able to see you shine on stage with all the lights & people around, but you’d constantly remind him that he didn’t need to see you in order to connect to you or your music… there’d be other ways.

matthew would for sure love to have a piece of your merch, even if you didn’t have your big break yet. you’d take him to a clothing printing shop & get a design you’d make of you printed on a hoodie & t-shirt for the both of you. he’d probably never take it off when he’d be home & get you to take a photo on your film camera with him in it too. he’d smile proudly & point to you on the hoodie, you writing on the back of the photo with “first merch sale, 2022” & draw a heart around matthew’s name.

he’d give you a good luck kiss before every show you’d do & have a secret handshake (why wouldn’t you???).

he’d definitely whoop & scream the loudest for you at big gigs & at the smaller ones, he’d clap the loudest & cheer with a lot of enthusiasm. you’d often smile too much on stage because of it or just look directly at him when singing, shaking your head at your #1 fan.

matthew would FOR SURE cry or at least tear up if you wrote him a song (let’s be honest, you’d write him multiple). he’d kiss you so passionately after hearing the recording from your computer or after hearing you sing it to him live from his apartment.

“you wrote a song about me?” “you’re my muse, of course, i—“ “god, i love you” *cuts you off with a kiss* (classic).

Interweave Knits: Summer 2023

Summer knitting is here which means lighter yarns and shorter sleeves. There are 9 tops and a cardigan in this issue along with an intriguing article by Karen Frisa which has broken me forever from not swatching. She knitted then blocked and also hung four yarns used in this issue; some of them grew in width or length and if you then multiplied out the 2 extra stitches in the 4 inch swatch to determine the effect across an entire garment, you realize how far off your sizing could become. Better to spend some time in the beginning, I now think, than to despair over time wasted in the end.

But on to the patterns. On the cover is the Branchport Cottage Top by Laura Barker which is a top-down circular construction with short rows over the yoke and a shaped waist. its is a full 4 out of 4 for difficulty because of the complexity of the lace stitch yolk. It is made of Elsebeth Lavold Hepathy a blend of cotton hemp and modal, which is a kind of rayon.

I give you a close-up of the front shoulders of the Orlaya Shell in a pale pink by Elena Dimchevska. It is worked in the round from the bottom up with a more solid stitch pattern across the shoulders. It has a very simple shape and then a charted lace stitch. It is 3 out of 4 for difficulty and is made of Drops Cotton Merino which is just what it sounds like.

Far simpler to complete, but needing care for its eyelet argyle motifs is the Serene Summer Pullover in minty color by Fiona Munro. It is a 2 out of 4 for difficulty and is a bottom up, circular needle project made in Quince & Co Wren another wool and cotton blend.

The pale blue green tee is done with wrapped stitches and called Patio Nights Tee by Debi Maige. It is a 2 out of 4 for difficulty despite having shaped shoulders. The yarn is Shibui Knits Pebble in Crete, a blend of silk, merino and cashmere.

Cables and a lace stitch that looks like wheat appear in the V-neck Abundant Tee by Blazenka Simic-Boro a 3 out of 4 for difficulty made of Hikoo Rylie in Pearl which is a alpaca, silk, linen blend. While cables always strike me as a cold weather feature, I want to try the lace stitch on something else.

The cover garments is the only pattern here that has waist shaping, the rest are rectangles, so you may want to add your own shaping if you swim in rectangles as I tend to do.

This is an interesting question... pretty difficult to answer.

I.. feel like there is a pretty low percentage of chance that she could survive. Joe during the seasons had a lot of relationships and I don't think he would kill without a good reason.

He found a reason for each kill he did and spared some of his love interests like... Karen Minty! That girl didn't even see that twisted shit that Joe always brings out.

Then we have technically Delilah (that poor woman), she sadly didn't survived the season but Joe didn't killed her and wasn't planning to.

Besides them... every other women that was seduced by him died someway.

I would say that... if the woman isn't his main obsession, then she would probably survive (let's say.. 85%?) and he wouldn't kill her— but if she actually is his current obsession, then... only fate knows.

Joe Goldberg, what a man. So I'm going to write about my feelings about the book and some comparisons with the series. You made me obsessed with a series that have inner monologues that narrate the show. I think it's best when you can see the character acting and also hear what they're thinking. It makes you understand their decisions and reasoning for certain actions and why they do what they do. Chapter 1 is a classic opening and it's amazing I can't fault it, it's when he first sees Beck and I know this may be tapped but I wonder if any guy thinks about me like that with our interactions. You can see already how fascinated he is with her and I love how he talks to her in his head, it's sweet but of course, meant to come across as creepy. In the book, I find it more realistic how Beck and Joe's relationship is rocky and they're not together as much as they were in the series. I think the book really shows how emotionally unavailable Back really was and how Joe is obsessed with her, he literally dealt with her absence well for someone whos a psycho. Also, what's up with Beck and emails? Who even emails. I don't understand why that was even a thing and was even a character trait of hers. She's obsessed with posting things online yet she rarely texts anyone. Anyway Beck is a loser and she wasn't that interesting anyway but maybe I'm being a hater because Love was my favorite love interest of Joe's. Joe was more harsh and scary in the book, even though I was imagining Penn the whole time it was kinda hard for me to read half the stuff he was saying. The sexual element was exciting but also too much at times but its Joe's thoughts and I found them funny and scary at the same time. I wonder what book Joe looks like because there wasn't too much description of what he looked like but I wish there was some sort of description of him. Penn is the perfect Joe but I wonder who else could fit the role? I just know he's handsome and it's acknowledged a lot in the book by others. He did bag Beck and Amy and omg how could I forget Karen MINTY? I loved Karen from the series but I also enjoyed her in the book too. She had a lot of character and was less sweet and wholesome than the series Karen. Book Karen was wild, the complete opposite of Joe and Beck. She was cool and he spoke of her disgustingly tbh. Benji I don't care too much for him, I never have for me he's irrelevant but I get why he's there. Everyone has a Benji. The guy who lies and manipulates the relationship when he doesn't even give a shit about you really. It made her more human and relatable to have a Benji. Nicky was also so much more interesting in the book. In the series, I didn't understand Joe's hate for him that much and didn't understand who Nicky was. I loved when Joe had access to the tapes and he read them all, it allowed me to understand his and Becks' relationship so much more because in the series it was a bit random and just plopped there and it never made sense to me how they even started to like each other. There was also a few chapters where Joe was following Nicky, seeing how he lived, and even tried to kill him but he was saved because Beck messaged Joe. I love those chapters too because it just shows how disgusting Joe is and is literally using his spare time, energy, and life to follow a man who doesn't even know the real him. I also loved the chapters when Beck was in the cage. You get convinced that he might actually let her out of the cage and they could be happy together but of course, as anyone would do Beck tried to escape. Her death was a bit traumatising. One minute this guy crying because he thinks he accidentally killed her and then he does it for real and is super angry. Not to forget he literally shoved book pages down her throat like why Joe. Wasnt choking her enough what was the need. He's so entitled as well but good for him for having self-respect I guess. I found the chapter where Beck finds the 'Box' underwhelming as hell. In the series it was so suspenseful and scary.
