♥︎ ʚɞ Karma Akabane x Reader who can’t hold eye contact

— It's your shy demeanor that catches Karmas' attention the first time you meet him. He notices how around other people such as Rio or Nagisa you’re much more extroverted and you seem more authentic. Every time he tries talking to you, you can’t look him straight in the eyes, and your personality becomes a lot tamer. He assumes it’s because you’re not as comfortable around him, and that you'll open up in time.

 He couldn’t have been more wrong.

The more time you spent in End Class, the less you could look at him. He’s never had a lot of friends and that never bothered him before. Except now it seemed like you were comfortable with everyone else in class. Even Terasaka and Itona were able to pull some conversation out of you.

You’d get all nervous and trip on your words; you’d look at your hands or shoes, but never directly at him.

Most people, once they get to know him, are scared off by his “jokes” and slightly violent tendencies.

That’s why, instead of assuming you’re into him, he assumes you’re scared because of some rumor that spread around campus. Which one? He couldn’t say for sure. Students would often make up stories about him.

 “He keyed the principal's car and sliced his tires.” (Never happened, good idea though.) 

“He pushed Koyama down the stairs, that's why he sprung his ankle.” (He didn’t, but he wishes he did.) 

“He snuck into the broadcasting room and sold some of Teppei’s personal belongings.” (That one did happen.)

You were hanging out with Rio outside, and he came up to you two out of boredom.

Midway through the conversation, he notices you picking at the grass, a little while after that, you make up a lame excuse to go talk to Okano, who’s on the opposite side of the mountain.

You’re a really bad liar.

Once he’s alone with Rio, he half-heartedly says, “I wonder what rumor [Name] heard about me that has them afraid of me.” 

“Afraid? Why do you think that?”  

“You haven’t noticed? Always getting quiet when I’m around, leaving randomly—it’s pretty obvious.”

 Rio just laughed. "Wow, you’re dumb. [Names] like that ‘cause they like you.”

 He let that new bit of information get into his head. Her conclusion makes more sense.

Now he’s being extra annoying. The more annoying and insistent he gets, the more comfortable you get. 

You get to the stage where you talk to him with excitement, you don’t get tripped up on your words anymore and you’re constantly hanging out, but you still can’t look at him.

He decides (with a lot of encouragement from Korosensei and a little help from his classmates) that the only way things will move forward is if he makes the first move.

When he lays out his feelings for you, he makes sure your eyes are on him. He tilts your head back at himself when your vision starts to wander.

 Even after you officially get together, the nerves don’t completely go away. Whenever he does something nice for you or when he makes you laugh, you hide your face behind your hands or on his shoulder. 

He’s starting to look away from you too; if you noticed how flustered he can get around you, he wouldn’t live it down.

Yuuki Yase is possibly one of my favorite directors of all time, and I don't exactly hide this. The Kubikiri Cycle is one of my all-time favorite anime series that has continued to mesmerize and be a part of my life since its airing. Yuuki Yase's direction of that series was simply one of the best I've seen. The very concept of Zaregoto is one that is more driven by dialogue and conceptuality than even Monogatari, I would say. He was able to somehow represent the oddity in Zaregoto in visual form. Not much was happening, but the way things were framed made it uncomfortable, it felt confined even as they were in this large, spacious castle cloaked in ambiguity, the characters themselves were uncanny in a way. Let's just say I was completely charmed. So when I heard that Yuuki Yase was going to direct Undead Unluck, I was very curious, as I had never read the series before, as it never really interested me. I had a feeling I would like it since it's Yuuki Yase directing it, but I never expected it to this extent.

My jaw dropped during the cold open of the episode, all of which was helmed by Taiki Konno, who you may have seen earlier this year in the ending visual for Magical Destroyers which aired this year.

I would love to post every frame of the opener here, but of course, I can't do that. Within a very short timeframe of maybe 2 minutes, you're introduced to this fictional manga series that our main character is reading, all while relating it back to her traumatic past. It's genuinely beautiful and haunting at the same time. The buildup to the explosion of the plane was intense, and when it happened, even though you're barely beginning the episode, there's a sense of catharsis in seeing the tragedy occur. The artstyle throughout was very much Konno's usual style but it felt less constrained and more self fulfilling than any work he has done in previous anime. It felt like a great opportunity for him to showcase himself and that he completely did.

The rest of the episode took a very different turn than the intro but it was still every fun. Close up eyes shot, the use of color and desaturation much like in Fire Force or Kubikiri Cycle is prevalent here and it mixes well in creating intrigue during the introduction of Andy.

The overall production was a lot of fun, and it was superbly well animated. With the key animators' staff being completely stacked, it wasn't surprising. The actual story premise was even more enjoyable than I had anticipated, and I'm going to continue enjoying it. However, I have a feeling that Yuuki Yase is elevating this to a different level that I wouldn't experience than if I just read the manga.

Key announces romance visual novel anemoi

Key, known for hits such as Kanon, AIR, and CLANNAD, has announced anemoi, its next full price romance visual novel. Platforms and a release date were not announced, but a full announcement live stream is planned for November 17 from 19:00 to 20:00 JST, which you will be able to watch on YouTube.

The Political is Personal for Japan’s Xinlisupreme

I found this article on Xinlisupreme where I am going to highlight some key extracts that I find may be useful for my research.

Okano channeled his anger at the Japanese political establishment into Xinlisupreme, his solo project since 2001. His rage crystallized in a song directed at Prime Minister Shinzo Abe who, at the start of the year, pushed to rewrite the nation’s pacifist constitution. Okano recorded a blistering rock number in his house, highlighted by a call-and-response lyric inspired by on-street protests. It was direct, and made Okano’s feelings clear from the single sentence, hollered over and over again, that gives the tune its title—“I Am Not Shinzo Abe.”

“I have to learn about political and social issues by myself, raise my voice and discuss, and sing to change the politics of Japan,” Okano says.

Not all the songs are political, but Okano uses the album to voice the concerns he has with Japan’s government. Xinlisupreme’s official site is less about his music than it is about his talking points. Okano doesn’t hold anything back—which complicated the album’s release.

Okano first displayed his fondness for protest on the followup mini-album Murder License, which was released in the run up to the United State’s invasion of Iraq. The music is uglier, and the accompanying art more direct—there’s an American flag on the cover, and George W. Bush’s image is featured inside. Abe takes those initial cautious steps toward politics to their natural conclusion.

“I had long been thinking about making music that brought to mind the various on-street protests that I saw all over Japan following the shake up of Japanese society on March 11, 2011,” Okano says. In early 2015, the phrase “I Am Not Abe” became a trend on Twitter in Japan, which gave Okano a rallying cry. Released early that year, the song eventually received attention from Japanese music site Natalie and was retweeted by SEALDs, a student activist organization.

The latest Xinlisupreme album continues the loud-to-soft dynamic Okano has long explored, featuring slightly reworked numbers from his days on the Japanese label Virgin Babylon. Its songs touch on both screeching noise rock (“Zouave’s Blue”) and smoke-damaged takes on dance pop (“Oh Yeah”). Yet its politics are always front and center; an accompanying text is focused on Abe, and it is being released at a time when the Prime Minister finds himself embroiled in a much-discussed scandal. In some ways, “I Am Not Shinzo Abe” is reminiscent of YG’s “Fuck Donald Trump”—no metaphor or subtext, just a statement delivered with passion.

Fancast of the day: Lyrica Okano as Kinsey Locke!

The middle child of the Locke siblings, Kinsey was once someone who constantly felt sad and afraid – until a certain supernatural key took that away. She became brave, and while it’s great quality, it does lead her to make reckless decisions. Though her boldness does help her, she realizes that fear is actually what will help her grow. She decides to deal with it and confront her trauma so she can move forward with it. This is why Lyrica Okano is perfect for the role! She plays a rather similar character as Nico Minoru in Marvel’s Runaways. Kinsey has this badass nature to her and Lyrica would be great in the role.

2013年夏に瀬戸内の高松市美術館で開催された『大竹伸朗展 憶速』展のカタログの特別版。

7セクションからなる展示構成を反映した7冊の図版冊子、テキスト・資料冊子、瀬戸内の大竹作品に関するポスター、インスタレーション・ビュー冊子、映像作品DVDが、タイトルの布タグがついたニードルフェルトの袋に入っています。

各図版冊子とインスタレーション・ビュー冊子はサイズが全て異なり、表紙の代わりに章タイトルと奥付が印刷された小さなタグが付けられ、平綴じまたは中綴じ（コグチ裁断なし）で製本されています。

テキスト冊子は、一旦仮の表紙をつけてあじろ綴じで製本されたのち、表紙が剥がされた特殊なもの。

図版のレイアウトでは、通常の美術展カタログにおいて常套手段であるグリッド・システムを用いず、輪郭が揃えられていないだけでなく、大きさや余白の比例があくまで目分量のバランスで決められています。

これは大竹が自らの手と目のみをたよりに、スクラップを貼り込み、画面を構成する態度を、DTPのレイアウト作業に取り込んだらどうなるかという実験でした。

DVDには新作の映像作品「宇和島」（2013 / 撮影1987-89）を収録。

大竹が宇和島に移住した最初期に撮影され、そのまま放置されていた8mmのフッテージを今回新たに現像し、編集したもの。

フィルムの経年劣化による現像ムラも補正せずにそのまま生かした、まさにノイズ・アンビエント・ファミリー・アルバムというべき、非常に美しいサイレント映像です。

なおこの書籍は第48回造本装幀コンクールにおいて審査員奨励賞を受賞となっています。
