Anyway I am reading the latest in Danielle Jensen’s awesome Bridge Kingdom series. The first two books were about the sister of this ML, called Lara who was brought up as a poison pill of a bride - spy and assassin - to marry into the wealthy and reclusive Bridge Kingdom and get info that would allow monster daddy to take it from within. Alas for daddy, she hated him and liked her new husband so awesomeness ensued. My favorite is book 2 where her husband is captured and thinks she betrayed him and the kingdom and meanwhile Lara gets readied for war to rescue for war and rescue because whether he is right to hate her or not they can hash out when he’s freed.

Anyway the following novels are about Keris, Lara’s only decent brother (who daddy hates for not being a monster and who just wants to be a scholar not a fighter) and Zarrah, the best general of another enemy kingdom.

I think you see why I like the series - like Gong Xinwen in English with BAMF battle goddess/murder machine ladies rescuing their beautiful and less good at battle men 😝

Hi:) I know you like the last book more but when you read the endless war, can you maybe say how often Laren is there too? Like only some chapters or are is it worth reading the whole book if it’s mostly for them? I also subscribed for Lara‘s POV Chapter! So excited!

So I just finished reading The Endless War and I loved it! Now as far as Lara and Aren, they are in this book a lot more compared to The Inadequate Heir but they still only have a minor role in this book. I think that if you aren't really interested in Keris and Zarrah's story and are only really interested in Lara and Aren, then I don't really think they are in the book enough to make it worth reading. There are some good moments with them but they are only in a couple of chapters all together. The end of this book does set up the next book in the series which is about Aren's sister Ahnna which I'm not sure if you are interested in or not. Personally, this was definitely my favorite in this series (but I love Keris and Zarrah) but if you are only reading it for Aren and Lara, I don't think they were in it enough to make it a worth while read. I hope this helps.

The Bridge Kingdom Series (3 & 4)

Review of books 3 & 4 of Danielle L. Jensen’s “The Bridge Kingdom” series, so spoilers for books 1 & 2 (review here).

In this duology spinoff, we follow Zarrah, the Queen of Valcotta’s niece and heir, and Keris, a prince of Maridrina and Lara’s brother, during a time when Maridrinians and Valcottans are sworn enemies. Zarrah and Keris meet in anonymity and strike up a friendship rooted in similar ideologies of peace for each of their peoples, which quickly turns romantic. When outside forces reveal their identities, these potentially star-crossed lovers must decide who they trust—and who has betrayed them. Will their biases reign triumphant and cause all-out war? Or will they learn to work together to conquer long-rooted hatreds, save three kingdoms, and allow themselves to love?

The plot takes place during books 1 & 2, so there is some overlap, but the majority of this narrative is wholly Zarrah and Keris’ own. Thankfully, their tale is not a retread of Lara and Aren’s, but Jensen is true to her signature of political intrigue and seeming betrayals as hurdles for them to overcome. Jensen opens up her world, giving readers an in-depth look at parts of the world they only glimpsed in 1 & 2, and it’s delightful to immerse oneself in each country’s customs—and rail against their ignorance. These systemic’ hatreds’ are deeply ingrained in their history and culture of the kingdoms, and understanding them is essential to really appreciate Zarrah and Keris’ struggles within the world they inhabit.

There are similarities between Zarrah and Lara being hard-asses and Keris and Aren being softer, peace-loving royalty, but Zarrah and Keris are their own characters with different backgrounds and motivations. Zarrah and Keris’ romance develops authentically, with a chunk of book 3 devoted to the reader experiencing falling in love along with them. Refreshingly, both main characters must learn to change for the better before they can earn their HEA, making the plot character-driven—which isn’t to say Jensen skimps on the plot; it is just as well-constructed, making it a certified page-turner.

Just as with books 1 & 2, books 3 & 4 successfully balance plot and character-driven elements, creating an engrossing tale. The story weaves romance, political intrigue, adventure, and believable worldbuilding into a captivating tale that keeps readers hooked from start to finish. This series is a solid adventure romance that lovers of SJM, Yarros, and JLA will eat up.

Hi:) thanks for answering my question! I didn’t read the third book and jumped to endless war. Did Keris and Zarah already fell in love in the inadequate heir? Did they sleep there and become lovers? I am looking for a sum of the book

Yes they totally did. It started as a friendship where they both knew the other was from enemy country but now who the other one actually was. Sneaked out a few nights to just goof around and bond (there was a mission there too but I don't remember it anymore). Then one night they silently agreed would be the last and fell in bed with each other. Boom! They are caught. Of course the one who caught them (idk who) knew who Zarah was and imprisoned her. Keris somehow broke her out and sent her back to her country where she confronts her Aunt (the queen) because she learned in Keris's country that her aunt killed her mother because the king named her mother as his successor. Silas actually killed her but he was tipped off by Zarah's aunt for the location of safehouse. Zarah is arrested by the queen and sent to the island prison from where no one had ever come back.

And Keris wonders... who might help him to break into an impenetrable island?

Lara, of course. Except as we know he had already betrayed her. Oops.
