Drenching Drama and Delights Unleashed at Diagon Alley's Annual Affair!
by Rita Skeeter, June, 1982
In the bewitching heart of our magical community, Diagon Alley - a typically tranquil spot, last weekend burst forth into a riotous spectacle of frolic and scandal, all under the fickle blessing of a grudgingly weeping sky. The Annual Street Fair, a supposedly mundane occasion celebrated by magical merchants and curious visitors, unashamedly paraded its vibrant eccentricities despite the heavenly tears - perhaps the gods' own lament of exclusion from the spectacle below.
Kieran Ollivander, our cherished purveyor of fine wands, was ensnared in a frenzied swirl of youthful excitement - first-year Hogwarts students buzzing around him like Cornish Pixies high on giggle water. Does the name Ollivander strike a chord? Why, indeed it should! This sprightly lad hails from the prestigious Ollivander lineage. Despite the charming façade of patience as he attended to each magical greenhorn, one could detect a hint of a strained smile. Could the weight of his famed pedigree be draining the life force from our young wand maestro?
A whiff of scandal wafted through the damp air from an innocuous potion booth. Mary MacDonald, the illustrious potioneer and Hogwarts alumna, was suddenly graced by the dark and mysterious figure of Severus Snape. This surprise rendezvous of former classmates, with Snape hardly the sociable butterfly, sent tongues wagging faster than a Snidget in a Quidditch match. Is this an echo of a professional alliance in the brewing, or a spicy hint of a tantalizingly personal connection?
Amidst this bustling hive of magic, James Potter, the Quidditch commentator whose velvety voice fills our living rooms, casually descended onto the scene, trading bludgers for baubles. To add a spritz of charm, accompanying him was none other than the bewitching Lily Evans, his erstwhile Hogwarts companion. Their merry gallivanting through the fair, punctuated by shared laughter and warm glances, undoubtedly brewed a concoction of nostalgia and curiosity. An innocent stroll or a simmering whisper of old flames being rekindled?
Just when one thought the day was a mere pot of jovialities, the stern gaze of Frank Longbottom, an Auror who seemingly consumes constant vigilance for breakfast, sliced through the laughter and chitter-chatter. Despite his reassuring presence, his patrolling under the persistent pitter-patter served as a cold reminder of the uncertain times we live in - a bitter counterpoint to the sweet merriment around.
Thus, delectable constellation of readers, behind the ordinary façade, we unearth the extraordinary, the tantalizing, and the scandalous. Our beloved wizarding community paraded its colourful plumes, reminding us of our enduring spirit, even under cloudy skies and within darker shadows. As alliances were formed and old bonds rekindled, the delicious scent of scandalous stories simmered in the misty air, whispering secrets to those willing to listen. So, keep your Extendable Ears at the ready, for every cobblestone in Diagon Alley harbours a tale, a secret, or a scandal - all waiting for the intrepid and irresistible Rita Skeeter to unravel. Stay tuned, my lovelies!

at the boards- Sheri Moir and Cara Moir for IAMO, Benjamin Brisebois for IAM, Mitch Islam, Carol Lane, Paul Macintosh and more
Juniors- Layla and Alex need to manifest drawing later numbers in the skate order lol at Next Gen they skated 3rd, here they skated 1st - it didn't matter that much here (it did a little - judge 7 Rhonda Vanderveen gave them 4.75 in skating skills - huh?), but in bigger competitions, skating this early can change your ranking bc judges are more conservative at the start
they look good, the reversed pattern is still a challenge like it was last season. they have beautiful skating quality but are losing points there. they're both so strong, and it shows in the elements - somehow when she's in the air - not talking the big lift, but other moments in the choreo - maybe it’s timing? but they maybe display less ease in that than other aspects. they're leading, but they probably deserve to be further ahead
Liv Corneil/Alex Emery from IAMO have progressed a lot in their skating and unison - they look like an IAMO team - their contact with the ice has more depth to it. they had T calls at the starts of both parts of the pattern, but they were one of the few teams who were truly on the beat for much of the paso. they're in 5th
the two IAMO teams were the only ones today with level 4 twizzles
i like the two Mariposa teams - Summer Homick/Nicholas Buelow are brand new and have gelled quickly. he's talented, partners well, and she's taking to dance quickly considering she was a pairs skater til earlier this year. this outing of the RD was more solid than at Next Gen. Martins/Kowalczyk had more difficulty today but rallied. looking forward to seeing their tango FD tomorrow. Mitch Islam looked like he was stalking the boards and dancing with them
Caroline Kravets/Aiden Dotzert are another new team - they made a big improvement over July sectionals, like they'd worked out the flow of the program more. they're in 3rd. Paul Macintosh is one of their coaches
Seniors- omg this was enjoyable lol Lily and Nathan!! i keep looking for the archived video because i want to see this again - this was hot. they look confident and like they attacked this. they're skating and performing bigger. what is it when these teams are carving big ice with deep edges - once they get their levels too, watch out
it's really interesting seeing them side by side with Bashynska/Beaumont - because they did get level 3s in the MiSt and PSt
but i noticed that B/B have these hitches in their program where Nadiia has to pretty much stop her flow - she's a dancer with a lot of training but loses her carriage at times. he does not lose his. i think it's a partnering issue, where she's having to compromise to follow him at her own expense, and he could be taking better care of her. that's my take on it today. because after noticing that about B/B, it looked pretty clear how Lily and Nathan skate more as one, and there are no hitches. they're more balanced and in tune with each other. so they need their levels! lol i know it's easier said than done. B/B and H/L are in 1st and 2nd
i adore Leia and Pietro's RD - it's so charming and full of details that are perfect with the music and the lyrics. i want the whole crowd to yell Tequila at the right moment for them, can we give them that? they nicked the boards and had a fall, but they're in 3rd
Alisa Korneva/Kieran MacDonald are newly senior and did great here. nice program, really good music cut - another Kitchener/Waterloo team with Paul Macintosh. i think Kieran's mom is one of their coaches. nice skating. though there was an off balance moment where it looked like her hand was going to go in front of his skates. idk maybe she wasn't that close, but oof
Alyssa Robinson/Jacob Portz - they had twizzle issues today, but they have one of the best of the many Saturday Night Fever RDs - they're capturing the 70s flavor well among all these disco programs. and i want to see their lift again
both Ritter/Brykalov and Roberts/Alis had new costumes since Lake Placid, Shilling and Baeten- i want to tell him not to stop performing before the very end. i'm so curious who did the choreo for all these programs - they all have good stuff and seem well considered for each team
skateontario: What a way to cap off an incredible day of skating!

Hey it is I, your fashionista nonny of yore, I'm still around and kicking, I just had some life stuff happen (my dad somehow fell down at the cottage, broke his hip and needed surgery, and he's not even an elegant pair girl with full turnout, so, like... the audacity!? Anyway, he's on the mend). It was probably for the best that I couldn't be on here after NHK because I swear to fucking god... I literally couldn't watch the other disciplines until quite a bit later, I was so angry. It was basically confirmation for me that P/C are coming back, because why else would MF be hustling so hard to get this team medals now? Because she knows it'll be impossible later, and P/C is literally the team that made her the political force she is today, so... My condolences to the Italians and whichever hapless Montreal teams suffer the wrath of vindictive panels at upcoming events. I can already tell the GPF placements are gonna be a shitshow.
I've been watching shit here and there, including this Bosphorus Cup aka the longest event of my life but hey - at least we got a free stream, and I felt the need to shout out that one team with the full frizzy hair and the jean jacket over the sparkly red dress on the girl for a Tina program and the guy in a Canadian tuxedo, A+ packaging while still presumably on a budget, I wish other teams would take a page out of their book, these kids understood the assignment! On the flip side, as much as I feel for them, I wish S/F would see the writing on the wall and spare themselves the heartache, they came all the way out here just to not get minimums and their new fed apparently doesn't even have the budget to send a coach out with them, so what's the point? Both Firus brothers married up, isn't that enough? So what if one of them doesn't make it to the Olympics? Judges from other small feds will kill them to prop up their own teams just because there are limited spots for Milan, this switch isn't the magic bullet they've been hoping for. (Also word on the street is Ted and Mama Firus can't stand each other, so that may have influenced their decision as well).
Also at the NRW Trophy there was a Hungarian team with a Depeche Mode FD that was an absolute mood and while the concept perhaps was not executed to its utmost potential, it had this cape-y dress that gave off such witchy vibes and the girl had a Glenn Close-ness about her that was just fabulous, highly recommend. I haven't watched the Challenge FDs yet but the persistent underscoring of Paul Mac's technically superior teams is infuriating. If Skate Canada knew what's good for them, they'd be pushing Korneva/MacDonald for the junior title now with Lewis/McMillan out, not Random Burnaby Team #154 that won't go anywhere, but they've been making some truly boneheaded decisions or none at all lately, so I've abandoned all hope. They're sleepwalking into an ice dance drought post-2030 and they'll depend on importing teams, it feels like, and it won't be just because of kids quitting because of the economy. Kieran has some of the crispest, most textbook turns out there, and it's so cute that he's being coached by his sister, she's done a phenomenal job. The best moment was when Ted and B/B realized the mics weren't on and then afterwards the auto-subs transcribed Nadiia as Daddy, 11/10 Skate Canada stream fail moment, no notes. Anyway, rant over, hope you're doing well and I'm glad you're being wooed by your boo so delightfully, they seem to be a gem! 💗
FASIONISTA NONNY! So good to hear from you!
I'm sorry to hear about your dad. (Wild he chose not to at least try for a triple throw...) I hope he's doing well. I'm sending you and your dad some warm fuzzies!
NHK was a time and a half, that's for sure. I've repressed some of it, so who really even knows what happened? P/C were also seen in a video training with the French ballet, so that's another good?bad? sign that they will be returning. Le sigh. I'm gonna repress this too. What were we talking about?
As for the Bosphorous Cup, love a commitment to a theme, and I'm biased, but also love a Canadian tuxedo. S/F is just...so....I actually just sat here with my hand over my face shaking my head for about 20 seconds. That's what they are. If they can make it to the Olympics and live their dream, all the power to them, and if they don't...woof.
I didn't even know there was another competition happening, Fashionista Nonny, you give me all the good deets! Glenn Close-skater girl sounds very iconic, love her already. I have no confidence in Skate Canada, and I never did. If I ever see Mike Slipchuck in a dark alley, he better run.
Also, thank you! My partner is a freaking sweetheart and I adore them a lot.
All the best to you and yours, Fashionista Nonny! Your message was a wonderful treat, as always.
