Canon Human TMNT Designs

We’ve got new human designs for our favorite boys courtesy of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers/TMNT II comic (yay!), but I’ve seen some confusion over where they’re from and what they're about, so I decided to put together a little guide of the canon human designs we currently have. If I miss any, please feel free to add them on in a reblog!

IDW Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2011)

First appearing in issue #5 of the IDW comics (December 2011), we get to see the IDW human forms at multiple stages of life through flashbacks and adventures into various character's mindscapes. They are Japanese in this version, being the reincarnations of the (likely Sengoku era, but that's a different post) Hamato family.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Pizza Friday (July 2016)

Debuting at 2016’s San Diego Comic Con, this short features the boys “as they see themselves” with the help of a cloaking device Donnie created. Here, the boys appear to be White. Notably, Raph initially turns into a girl before the machine is "fixed" and he appears as a boy.

Boom! Studios Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers/ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II (2022/2023)

So contrary to popular belief, these are not IDW turtles, but Boom! Studios turtles. Boom! publishes Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, and thus was given the publishing rights for the crossover. These turtles are their own unique iteration that coexist in the same world as the Power Rangers. Here, the boys are given hologram technology by their Power Ranger friends that allows them to appear human when used. They are Black in this iteration.

Going to be completely honest, I made this post because I'm a pedantic nerd and I was getting Annoyed by everyone calling the MMPR/TMNT turtles the IDW turtles. They are not. They are two separate, distinct iterations with their own world-building, lore and yes, human turtle designs. Being wrong about comics is NOT a victimless crime. (the victim is me.)

Regardless, I hope people find this helpful! I didn't include the links to anything because last I checked Tumblr hates external links, but I did give the full names of everything so they should be easy enough to find.

Stan Sakai Reunites Iconic Heroes in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Usagi Yojimbo: WhereWhen

The Master Storyteller Hurls the Heroes in a Half Shell to The Rabbit Ronin's Timeline in Upcoming IDW Comic Book Miniseries

SAN DIEGO, CA (December 15, 2022) – In 2023, brilliant storyteller Stan Sakai will once again weave together two of the most beloved concepts in history with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Usagi Yojimbo: WhereWhen. This five-issue comic book miniseries, published by IDW in partnership with Dogu Publishing and Paramount Consumer Products features colors by Hi-Fi and will launch in March 2023.

In 1984, the indie comics scene erupted with the creation of two enduring phenomena: Stan Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. Given the two series’ anthropomorphic heroes, reverence for Japanese culture, and mutual respect among their highly skilled creators, it was no wonder that the two properties would crossover in comics, multiple animated series, and toy lines over the next four decades.

“I am so pleased with the story and art for WhereWhen,” says Sakai. “There is a lot of emotion and, of course, lots of action. I actually wrote this story about five years ago and had been anxious to get to it. In the past, the Turtles have met just a few of Usagi’s friends. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pursue the evil cyborg genius Dr. WhereWhen through a time portal…and emerge in feudal Japan! There, they encounter Miyamoto Usagi, 20 years into the samurai’s future but decades after the arrival of Dr. WhereWhen—who has already carved himself a fiefdom using mechanized clockwork samurai robots, with the intention of conquering both the past and current timelines!

Each and every issue of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Usagi Yojimbo: WhereWhen will feature a glorious wraparound cover by Stan Sakai, plus alternate covers by TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman, Sarah Myer (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Saturday Morning Adventures), and David Petersen (Mouse Guard). Issue #1 will also include a blank cover variant, perfect for artists or even convention commissions.

The Boy in the Shadows

After Scott and Lydia return from their trip into Stiles' head, they expected to find their friend in a better state. It was successful, after all. They got through to Stiles. He woke up. And yet, when they opened their eyes, Stiles was nowhere to be found. Neither was the nogitsune. They vanished without a trace.

That was almost a year ago.

The Yukimuras settled down near San Diego only a few months after that. Kira felt guilty for not being able to help. She practised becoming a better kitsune in the woods surrounding their new house. That's where she found a young fox late one night. After spending some time with it, the fox followed her home. She decided to take care of it. Her little secret didn't stay hidden for long because only two days later, another fox showed up. Three months after that, the Yukimuras were taking care of almost a dozen foxes.

Another four months later, Theo arrives at the Yukimura farm. After he's gotten himself into trouble with the law once more, his lawyer and his parents insist that he should spend some time doing something good. Since he's sharing some classes with Kira, Theo assumes that he could charm his way out of work. Noshiko and Ken, however, make sure Theo does every bit of work he's signed up for. Day in day out, Theo is working in the fox enclosures. As if the sun trying to burn his skin off isn't bad enough, none of the foxes enjoy his company. They probably know exactly what he is.

But there's one fox that's different. He's quieter than the other foxes and usually keeps his distance. If he approaches, all the other foxes scatter. Only the two fox cubs don't seem to have a problem with him. Now, that Theo thinks about it, neither Noshiko nor Kira have told him anything about the fox. They keep reminding him to be careful around him. Kira seems to be the only person he's spending time with.

If Theo hadn't grown up as a chimera, he might not have noticed anything odd. His father taught him to recognise other supernatural creatures, however, especially those hiding in plain sight. Something is off about this particular fox, and Theo is going to find out what.

He does so much sooner than expected. One night, he returns to the Yukimuras because he forgot his wallet. He doesn't expect to find a boy his age kneeling in one of the enclosures, face hidden in the shadows, cradling the two fox cubs in his arms. The boy hasn't noticed him, and Theo risks inching closer. All he wants is to get one look at his face. He needs to figure out who that boy is.

But one of the nearby foxes is screaming. Within the blink of an eye, the boy vanishes into the shadows. From then on out, Theo comes back to the Yukimuras every night, but he doesn't see the boy again.

Until one night, he's waiting for him in the driveway.

Tao Feng a vécu le faste, mais aussi la chute brutale de sa famille, auparavant à la tête du Royaume Obscur. Depuis que les Dragomir ont massacré sa famille et mis en fuite des milliers de kitsunes, Tao a grandi avec la haine des vampires et l'idée qu'un jour, il reprendrait le trône des siens. Avec l'aide de Meredith St-James et le coven Gemini, Tao fonde le Serment des Ombres. Toujours obligé de se terrer, il fômente en secret contre les actuels dirigeants et espère récupérer ce qui lui revient de droit ; mais les idéaux se dispersent et le Serment réclame à présent la fin du secret magique. Aujourd'hui, Tao Feng souhaite abolir le Trône obscur et anéantir ce que les Dragomir ont construit aux dépends de sa race. Le Serment est enfin officiel, son dirigeant est prêt à sortir de l'ombre. Diego est à la tête de la meute des Perros depuis une dizaine d'années et n'a pas dérogé aux principes des siens. D'une main de fer, il dirige la meute avec la même fierté pour sa race que ses prédécesseurs, faisant des Perros encore et toujours une meute à l'image violente et criminelle. C'est donc assez naturellement que lorsque des meurtres se répandent à Helvika, les regards se tournent vers eux et surtout sur leur Alpha qui disparait pendant plusieurs mois. Confronté à l'hypocrisie des Accords et la discrimination contre les loups, Diego Derbez, jusqu'alors neutre, a finalement décidé de rejoindre celui qui lui a enfin tendu la main : Tao Feng. De retour officiellement à Helvika, Diego souhaiterait que les Perros de Sangre fassent dorénavant partie du Serment des Ombres, joignant la rébellion. HAKAN SØRENSEN [ poste vacant — famille Sørensen, loup-garous ] Pronom — Il. Âge — 48 ans. Situation familiale — Au choix. Métier — Alpha de la meute des Första Vargar. Race — Loup-garou. Hakan a grandi en sachant qu'un jour, il succèderait à son père pour devenir alpha de la meute. C'est en septembre 2020 que Torsten décède et qu'Hakan devient alors chef. Si le rôle est fastidieux, les Första représentants l'une des meutes les plus puissantes, Hakan prend le pas de son paternel et dirige la meute avec le calme qu'on lui connait. Profondément neutre, les derniers événements secouant Helvika ont cependant fait trembler les convictions et Hakan a dû se positionner davantage en faveur de l'Alliance et des Dragomir. Un geste envers la couronne qui, il l'espère, conférera davantage de protection pour les siens, mais le doute persiste et Hakan est désormais désireux de faire plus. Il souhaite mener sa meute dans une direction moins passive que ce qu'elle a pu laisser paraître depuis quelques années.

Ghiaccio’s adopted elder sister/brother. She is of fae descent. Cannot be recognized as nonhuman unless actively displaying a fae ability. Indigo is usually in her natural form if she believes she’ll be recognized (by humans) and male around strangers but will freely alter form in the company of other supernatural beings. “New Zealand has an interesting vampire community.” “Tucked away in the National Radio Quiet Zone in West Virginia is a varied community of supernatural beings, which most humans would classify as cryptids.” Indigo has travelled the world over but has spent most time in Italy and english speaking countries (and various supernatural domains) but most recently spent several months in Japan.

Risotto and Prosciutto are old friends of Indigo who returns from abroad because Kars ordered him to deal with the Trish situation. Indigo then discovers the mess Ghiaccio has gotten into with Melone.

Luther: some kind of were? Werewolf? Super strong with excellent reflexes. Didn’t realize his senses were heightened and just thought his siblings were being dumb. Ends up stuck in a half shift after some experimenting which is why he ends up with a big hairy body he tries to hide. He’s the most ashamed of not being “human” and goes out of his way to reject his heritage - probably has silver burn scars on his hands because Reginald is a fancy rich bitch and the knives and forks probably literally are silver and Luther lives to obey his father. Oh probably gets dog jokes a lot, mostly from Diego

Diego: they aren’t quite sure tbh. Allison says he’s probably mer with his ability to breathe underwater but that doesn’t explain his ability with knives? Five days he’s a water nymph because water and magic and Diego absolutely hates that because nymph sounds so delicate and he is NOT DELICATE. Diego seems to prefer fresh water to salt water so they’re just all kind of ??? about it. Diego says it doesn’t even matter because he intends to live as a human anyway but secretly wonders

Allison: siren is good! Instead of saying she heard a rumor, all she needs to do is sing a request. Doesn’t matter what tune as long as her intent is to sing. Allison is officially banned from singing along to any of Luthers records but she’s allowed to dance so it’s fine. She sang Vanya into a trance at Reginalds orders when they were four so that he could bind her powers oof

Klaus: banshee poor baby. Despite being a traditionally female spirit who can foretell death, Klaus says fuck gender roles and is an overachiever who can see the dead as well which is awful. He screams,,, a lot. Klaus does not appreciate his powers and never learned how to filter things out because he had no one to teach him (the worst day in his life was when he was sixteen on a mission and he screamed long and hard and he didn’t need to see his siblings faces when he found them to know that one of them was dead)

Ben: a baby kraken. You know Atlantis the sequel one? Where they save the town from this old dude and the kraken and at the end the creepy innkeeper has her baby and is like “we are safe now” and then you see tentacles unfurl from the baby blanket wrap thing? That’s Ben. The tentacles in this AU aren’t a foreign creature but part of his True Form to fuck shit up as a sea monster. Ben doesn’t particularly want to fuck shit up though and prefers his fake human form thanks, plus beaches mean sand gets everywhere and just eh he isn’t a huge fan

Five: fae ofc he is the absolute master of loopholes and wiggle room and lying without lying. He is governed by rules pressed into his bones where he is bound by his word and lies are like coals on his tongue. Can part the veil between worlds to travel which looks like teleporting to humans.

Five, alternate: (if we want to completely divorce from the changeling au) a kitsune. Messenger abilities allow him to vanish and reappear/spatially jump. Mischievous and chaotic and far too intelligent, growth is stunted because kitsune are so long lived oops. Kind of a trickster, like to cause trouble and be at the center of attention. Can really only perform parlor tricks like jumping because he’s so young

Vanya: vanya is incredibly powerful and terrifying and wrathful so I’m going to say she’s either straight up angel or at the very least nephilim/half-angel. Reginald probably performs a ritual to bind her wings/powers when she’s very young, having Allison sing to keep Vanya calm as it’s done. And when she reawakens that part of herself - like five she has very different morality than humans and she is full of wrath and fury enough to end a world

So this is a pretty loosey goosey ad and has a lot of wiggle room. Abel is 13y older than Dani and he left home when she was only 5, so after he left what he did and who he was is largely up to you. Their mother was a flighty woman, a woman who rarely if ever settled down for long, so their childhood was spent moving around a lot. Dani didn't have any sort of formal education until she was 12, I wouldn't be surprised if Abel was voided that opportunity as well. When Dani was younger they were both homeschooled while they fluttered around France, they were largely left to be raised by the streets and they did whatever they wanted.

When Dani was 12, a man came into their mother's life who actually stuck around for a few years, Bastian Vega. It was Bastian that Dani chose to stay with and whom she now calls her father, their own father long since having jumped ship. Abel is technically older than Bastian, which made their relationship weird, and where Abel could and maybe should have rightfully hated the man, he was everything Dani needed, the stability and the structure to guide her down a better path than Abel was ever given. Their relationship is strained, though there's no real bad blood there, Abel still isn't all that keen on a man younger than him, playing father to his sister; doubly so as Bastian is chief of police.

Abel was a lot more like their mother than Dani is, and he gets on with her very well and is very close to her where Dani isn't. Dani doesn't hate her by any stretch, she just doesn't agree with the way their mother lives her life and how she left them largely on their own. Abel is also flighty and not the steadiest of people, ruled by his emotions and whims he tends to be brasher and more impulsive than Dani, the aggression and anger he has now was built up when this way of being was thrown headlong into a cage.

Along the way Abel got himself mixed up in slinging drugs (mainly coke, but you can go wild lol), who he was dealing for is up to you, but regardless he was pretty low down on the totem pole when he got picked up by police (again, up to you how this happened) and was charged with possession and intent to distribute. They'd find out while he was sat in jail waiting sentencing that he was embedded into something much larger than himself, and as fae do, he spun a good tale that he thought would get him out of things; spouting off about connections and tossing about street names to intimidate. It didn't work. Instead of getting out of, they tossed him into the prison system without a second thought, mostly this was done to use his self inflated status to get closer to the bigger fish.

After all, if they locked up a friend of said big fish, that fish would surely bail him out, right?

Turns out Abel wasn't as big as he said he was, and now the various secondary charges they've pinned to him, to sink him into the system and make it look like he squealed on the cartel he was working for, have fully dragged him under. He's become just another number in a system that's failing its people. Because of this, he's grown angry and aggressive behind bars. The only thing keeping him grounded in reality is his sister, Dani.

She moved across the country to help support him and has, since his detention, funneled everything she doesn't need to live, into lawyer fees and commissary funds. She's doing everything she can to see him free, while also trying to keep her grasp on the world around her and not lose what she's built for herself. Every other weekend she takes the train north to Fresno, Pleasant Valley State Prison (PVSP), to visit him. While there she always stays with her terrible boyfriend in Fresno, to save money that Abel needs.

Dani's sunny disposition however, has never once faltered and she's far to stubborn to give up on Abel.

Hard to play a man in prison, no?

So here's the deal with Abel in the present: Dani is currently working as a runner for the Cortez cartel, making a trip down to Mexico every few weeks to a month, as she's the most unassuming face they could find... And she asked for their help in protecting Abel on the inside. She was/is the babysitter to Diego & Lenny's daughter, Dia, which mixed her up into things initially. Diego has since sent his brother, Toni, to ensure that Abel's protected inside, and they would have known each other from prison anyway, as Toni was in, and has since gotten out, when Abel went in.

Dani's work within the Cortez cartel is minimal, but it's enough that she's since ensured Abel's release (to happen whenever he's taken). What Abel does within the cartel once he's out is up to you, but he'll basically be conscripted into the cartel, as he's indebted to them. He's very likely to hate that Dani's mixed herself up in all of this, and I'd love it if he did his best to shield her from it going forward... Which will become more difficult as times goes on as she and Toni are all wound up and around one another (and shipped), so it's a losing battle - but I'd love for there to be some tension between them to work through.

I'd also love it if Dani helped him get his GED while he was behind bars, could be part of the time they spent together during visitation; her tutoring him or bringing him fox marbles to help him learn, etc. They are very close and he's pretty different around her than he is anyone else; she's tiny and energetic and full of smiles, it's difficult not to soften around her. She does own a small little townhouse and she's converted the top floor specifically for Abel, when he gets out, though whether she stays there or not is up to you! She's also got a pseudo "brother" he'll have around, Cameron, who was taken in by Bastian as another wayward angry boy. How he feels about this is up to you, but there's another connection for him~

HAPPY MONDAY, LIKERS!!! I see the weather wanted to remind me...WELCOME TO MAY!!! #May here in San Diego tended to be full of gloomy mornings. From there, it might be a nice sunny day...or just cloudy, cloudy, cloudy. For now, it definitely appeared it had given way to happy sun. But would it be that way tomorrow? Time would tell. 

Speaking of time, I felt it was time. Time to get finished with my first #draft of my latest WiP. There were several novels that I would be working on this year. And this was the first one on that list. The goal this month was to be done with it by the end of it. 

Today would also find me going back over the formatting for 'Kitsune-Tsuki Images.' It was the short story that I would have in SHATTERED ILLUSIONS, the forthcoming #anthology from THE AUTHORS TABLE. Diego, Ben, and Dave

Diego - If you had powers, would you rather fight crime as a lone vigilante or work with a team?

I guess it depends on the powers. As a kid I REALLY wanted to be pyrokinetic, which could be potentially a ‘friendly fire’ problem, thus solo might be a good plan there. 

But as an adult, I’ve thought it more likely I’d be an Empath, which means I’d probably NEED a team in order to actually be effective at all. I can think of ways in which I could use them alone in a pinch, but given my chronic illness issues of late, I should usually leave the majority of the physical fighting to people with abilities that manifest more aggressively. XD

Imagine a Deanna Troi that would stab a bitch with little hesitation if he gets too close.

Ben - If you could summon any mythical monster/supernatural creature to defend you in a fight, which would would you choose and why?

That would really depend on the fight TBH. I mean, my favorites are kitsune, or pretty much anything with fire. A dragon would be useful, but a bad idea if I was indoors at the time.

But in general, if I could summon a dragon whenever I needed one, that’d be fuckin’ rad.

Dave - What’s your favorite song to dance to?

Hmmmm.... Favorite songs tend to vary upon my mood or what I’ve been grooving to lately. I actually don’t listen to a lot of songs in a situation where I would dance along these days. Its been some time. Partially because I can no longer really sing along either, which kind of takes away a lot of my enthusiasm for listening to music as much anymore. (And I’ve rarely ever had much interest in music without lyrics. Not really my thing for some reason.)

I guess growing up, it was almost impossible to resist dancing to fiddle or folk music? I grew up going to Ren Faires, so pretty much anything jaunty you’d hear playing at one, I’d have trouble not moving along to at least a little.

Oh or the Time Warp, of course. Because TIME WARP.
