So I just found out Kojima wanted to make a game where the disc blows up when you die. That reminded me of something...
Tumblr media
Honestly it's already a terrible idea on paper but the protag-kun of this anime even bought a second copy when his first one exploded, which just makes it a worse idea because buying another copy and/or making a new account 100% defeats the point.

Anime of the day: Kyuukyoku Shinka Shita Full Dive RPG ga Genjitsu Yori mo Kusoge Dattara
Tumblr media
Alt title: Full Dive: The Ultimate Next-Gen Full Dive RPG Is Even Shittier than Real Life!
Releasd: 2021
It’s been a while since Kiwame Quest came out, but it’s potential is astronomical. The vastness of it was outdone by it’s realism. It was so real that it’s popularity plummeted. But that doesn’t stop Hiroshi from getting this game. Now he is marveling at the realism and quickly making mistakes. There are no redos in this game so he is stuck with every error he makes, including, but not limited to, killing random important characters, fighting a drunk, peeing his pants and then eating in front of royalty,,and becoming the favorite of some BDSM demon lady. Hiroshi has an interesting journey ahead of him, but the advice he’ll get will mostly be demeaning and only occasionally helpful.

Full Dive – 02 – Hell’s Fruit Slicer
Tumblr media
For someone supposedly there to help Hiro out, Reona has nothing but bad news for him: Kiwame Quest can’t be restarted unless he buys a new console, which she just happens to be willing to sell for ¥120,000, or ¥30K more than he paid for his. Considering how quickly easily Hiro ruined his game, it’s no wonder KQ is a dead game.
He also learns that in the city of Ted, AKA the Closed City, he’s already a wanted fugitive, and so must exercise caution when buying a cheap cloak to mask himself. The clothes merchant hikes up the price in exchange for staying mum about seeing him. It’s looking more and more like the enterprising Reona wrangled Hiro into this game in hopes he’d give up and spend more of the money he doesn’t give to school bullies to her.
Tumblr media
Despite costing most of the cash he started with, the cloak does nothing to hide Hiro from his childhood friend Alicia, who arrives in heightened fruit-knife wielding psycho mode. Ai Fairouz brings a lovely chaotic intensity to the role, and after praising the ten-year old’s NPC AI magic, advises Hiro to run. Running makes him tired—just like real life—only since he’s never actually run for his life before, he’s doubly exhausted.
His title changes from “Best Friend Killer” to “Running Best Friend Killer: Fleet-footed Amicide.” Having had enough, Hiro tries to log out, but he’s still technically in combat with Alicia, who appears and slashes his hand. Despite Reona assuring him one doesn’t feel any more pain than a bruise from fallnig down stairs, Hiro is still caught off guard by the pain. Reona, invisible to Alicia, punche her in the face to allow Hiro to flee and log off.
Back in the real world, Hiro notes how he’s never run all-out like he just did in KQ. His friend tries to prod him into confronting the bullies using him as a wallet, and Kaede makes another brief appearance to complain about the noise he made last night, and look at him with disgust. He ultimately decides to go back to KQ, and not just to go all-out again…but perhaps so the shitty experience there makes real life seem not so bad?
Tumblr media
Upon logging back on, he’s in the exact same pain as when he was last there, and his hand is still bleeding. Naturally, simply touching the medicinal herbs in his pocket doesn’t heal him. He then happens to bump into Ginji, another “best friend killer” who’s been playing the game for years. Ginji crushes the herbs and bandages Hiro’s hand, then takes him to a casino to drink a cola-like beverage he’s inexplicably drunk on.
Reona told Hiro to seek Ginji out to learn how he salvaged killing his best friend at start of the game, only to learn he didn’t. In fact, he also killed his childhood friend, and feels zero remorse over it. He also mentions that despite how hard this game is, and how you enter it with your real-world attributes, there is one man, named Kamui, who actually managed to clear the game 100%. But that’s enough chit-chat, as Ginji sells Hiro out by yelling that the fugitive killer is there.
Full Dive’s high concept asks me to suspend my disbelief so high, my arm muscles strain to keep it in the air. It doesn’t help that the visuals are underwhelming, or that the color palette and lighting are oppressively dark and drab—this may be the ugliest Spring show.
Still, if there’s one thing I buy just enough—for now—is the rationale for Hiro sticking with KQ: of all the people in real life, Reona is the only one we’ve seen who not approves of his video game hobby, and wants to play with him. In other words, the closest thing to a friend. He just needs to stay away from fruit knives!

Full Dive – This Ultimate Next-Gen Full Dive RPG is Even Sh-ttier than Real Life Ten years ago, the world’s first – and only – ultra-realistic VR game, “Kiwame Quest,” released. Unfortunately, it was so close to real-life that no one wanted to play it. Nowadays, the “Kiwame Quest” community is practically dead, with only a handful of still active players. Such is the state Hiroshi Yuuki finds…

Full Dive RPG
Ten Years ago, at the peak of VRMO development industry, a game title “Kiwame Quest” entered the scene with potential like no other. Boasting a colosal total of 10 sex-decilion branches of possible story scenarios, this game pursue ultimate realism, ranging from humanlike NPCs to the perfect replication of all senses and physical abilities. But it soon became apparent that the game was too…

Kyuukyoku Shinka shita Full Dive RPG ga Genjitsu yori mo Kusoge Dattara
In a curious turn of events, dull high schooler Hiro Yuuki gets his hands on a copy of the full dive RPG, Kiwame Quest. Created using the latest cutting-edge technology, the game lives up to its claims of taking “reality to its extremes,” from stunning graphics and impressive NPC behavior, to the scent of plants and trees, and even the sensation of wind brushing against your skin—everything has…

The Quest for Kikkou (part 1)
(This is just me writing down what happened on my runs because I’m bored and I have to wait for my swords to be repaired. I already used up over 150 help tokens to get Kikkou. T__T     Actual writing under a cut because it’s long and probably boring.) After countless attempts to bring home the historical sword Kikkou Sadamune to no avail this Saniwa requested her brave swords to deliver a battle report after every run in the hope of figuring out where the strategy is lacking. Team Formation: 1. Yagen Toushirou (Kiwame) Lv. 41 2. Midare Toushirou (Kiwame) Lv. 43 3. Atsushi Toushirou (Kiwame) Lv. 41 4. Aizen Kunitoshi (Kiwame) Lv. 42 5. Imanotsurugi (Kiwame) Lv. 40 6. Sayo Samonji (Kiwame) Lv. 39
Battle Report 1 (Yagen): Node A - the battle was victorious - no damage was taken - no troops were lost Node L - the shortest route towards the boss node was taken - the battle was victorious - no damage was taken - no troops were lost Node M - we lost track of the right path because the second sword in command Midare Toushirou was distracted - however 70 resources of charcoal were obtained Mission Failed
Battle Report 2 (Atsushi): Node A We won the battle but Aizen was damaged during the fight. He lost 10 HP when a rarity 5 Yari attacked him. Everyone took good care of their troops. Node L A quick fight with no incidents. Node M We made good time on our way when I found a stack of charcoal. The team retreated to bring the resources home safely. The mission couldn’t be completed.
Battle Report 3 (Aizen): Node A I started off with a little damage from the last run. I refused to be repaired because of that little scratch since I can totally beat the enemy up anyway. We ran into the Kebiishi and it was a piece of cake. They can’t beat us anymore after our Kiwame training. Let’s finish this quickly and light some fireworks! Node B I might have been too excited after the last fight. I ran ahead of the leader and took a wrong turn. Yagen says we need to go home now because the long route will cost as too many troops if we can make it at all. We couldn’t find Kikkou.
Battle Report 4 (Sayo): Node A Our run started badly. We won the fight but Imanotsurugi was hurt on the battlefield. He lost 12 HP. Node N We could find the shortest path but this time Atsushi got attacked. He lost 11 HP and one of his troops. Will we be able to make it to the boss? Node O The battle was won and we found Yamatonokami Yasusada on our way. Node P We had to take the longer path. Fortunately our enemy wasn’t too strong. Node J This run was unlucky from the start. Atsushi lost 5 more HP and his last troops. Midare lost one troop as well. Will we reach the boss now? Node R We missed the boss node. Did I bring misfortune upon our team by writing the battle report? I found 70 pieces of whetstone but it’s not what Aruji-sama wanted. They will be disappointed. I wasn’t strong enough to find Kikkou. We will rest until the damaged swords are repaired.

Ancient Magus’ Bride 24 (FINAL) | ReLIFE OVAs 2 - 4 (FINAL) | Mahou Shoujo Ore 1 | Gakuen Babysitters 12 (FINAL) | Zoku Touken Ranbu Hanamaru 12 (FINAL) | Dances with the Dragons 1
The spring season came early on Crunchyroll, but HiDive is locking me out in exchange.
Ancient Magus’ Bride 24 (FINAL)
Aw, c’mon Chise. Beating people up is not how you do things, that’s a shonen protag’s role!
Noticeably, Elias seems to be “the child”.
Who’s the “weirdo”??? Chise? Elias?
The confetti kind of looks like flowers…
Alrightttttttttttttttt…this show just went into lecherous and out of the comfort zone territory when I remembered Chise is 15. Wearing a bridal outfit and exchanging rings. Yipe.
Wait, so what happened to Joseph’s eye? The dragon arm I get, but…
I was wondering what was under those gloves of Elias’s, so now you know. *The More You Know star shoots past*
I’m kinda confused. That ending was sweet but it was abrupt and didn’t solve much. Actually, I think it bred quite a few questions I won’t get answered anywhere but the manga…ergh. Dangit, manga!
ReLIFE OVA 2
Didn’t think I’d see Sumire (the volleyball teacher) again.
Interestingly the kanji combo for human and fish (in that order) is “mermaid” but the other way around is “fishman”…hmm…
I had some yakisoba recently. It has a distinctive flavour to it…dang, now I’m hungry.
It’s the brother again. He’ll be important, alright.
For reference, the ED is CHE.R.RY buy YUI.
Mahou Shoujo Ore 1
Yay! This show is my first debut for the spring season so I couldn’t be happier – I’m actually getting my magical boys (unlike my magical girls, which are likely to be locked away behind HiDive’s paywall)! It’s not about rocks (LOL) but ore in this case refers to the Japanese male pronoun.
Ah, this is so PreCure. It’s like I’ve come home. Welcome home, Saki!
Nice boat!
That “It was all a dream” definitely isn’t in the original, but it does set people’s expectations up, eh? The ol’ bait-and-switch.
Henshin = Transformation. It’s not “Transform” unless it has suru on the end.
The face in the song subs is a good touch.
Honeyed Flash, eh? (LOL)
Glass Galaxy is the ED if you’re not in the know.
Those stretched faces, kinda like Saitama’s…are from the original manga…(I feel sorry for admitting that now.)
Some animation of Saki is definitely 2010s, but it keeps feeling like this show was from 10 years ago from the stripped-back style. It’s quite the whiplash, but it’s not something I was ever bothered over (if you remember Saiyuki Reload Blast, that was a similar dilemma).
“…you’re an old hag once you’re over 15…” – Aside from vaguely calling back YOI’s young ages for retiring (which makes me kind of sad), there are PreCure girls who are over 15 (Cure Moonlight was 17) and the Outer Senshi were all older than 15 with the exception of Sailor Saturn, IIRC.
I think the OKAN on Sayori’s apron is meant to be short for okaasan, although I might be wrong there. (*still imagining what a wonderful world we live in, to be blessed with an adaption of this manga…even with two anime-original characters…*)
Okay…there was one shot there that reiterated why I don’t watch anime in public.
Monokubo, eh? (LOL)
Gakuen Babysitters 12 (FINAL)
Did Kotaro always call Saikawa Sai-chan???
Yikes, Kamitani isn’t that discerning about the age of who he hits after all. I thought it was just Taka-related abuse for most of the episodes…or maybe I’m generalising too much.
Eh, insensitive mu-oh, never mind.
Is the present for Ryuichi a smartphone? It is, isn’t it?
So that’s the end of another series. See you next time!
Zoku Touken Ranbu Hanamaru 12 (FINAL)
According to the rules of the game, you can only have one party in one time period at a time. Therefore, by bending the rules, you make for a more compelling anime…huh. They did it in Katsugeki too, although it was in a slightly different way.
Oh boy, I looked into this and this white-looking outfit is Yasusada’s Kiwame! Ooh, I was looking forward to this in Katsugeki and I finally get it! (I left before Kiwame was a thing, so I finally get to vicariously live out my Kiwame fantasies, LOL.)
If you’ve made it this far in TR, you obviously know how much Yasusada values Okita-kun…I’m so proud of my boy, even if he wasn’t a particularly special sword to me…
It’s wonderful to know that feeling – that I’ve supported TR from before the animes happened because of one measly sword known as Kashuu Kiyomitsu. That I now have friends all over the world with their own favourite swords who I can chat to anytime I want, because Toshiki Masuda got involved with a small franchise that got really big (in Japan). I think that’s a power of Boueibu’s “rookie system”, if I were to give it a name.
…With that, I say “farewell” to 2 seasons of Hanamaru! See you again someday!
ReLIFE OVA 3
Aw, Kariu and Ohga out on a lovers’ holiday…these guys are too adorable.
Arata says “You were made for each other” with such a straight face I can’t even…LOL.
Is it just me, or did they get more inventive with the backgrounds because the OVAs were straight to disc content?
My eyes have gotten so attuned to CGI I can tell the basket is CGI…I think that’s what made me toss (Space Battleship) Tiramisu off my list temporarily, come to think of it.
Arata still smokes? Oh dear…
Ferret Town, LOL.
Give Arata some eye contact, Hishiro! C’mon!
I think it’s kind of obvious, but they picked blue for the boys and pink for the girls in the background.
These picture slideshows are pretty cool (kinda like YoI…?). Less animation to do, as well.
The shop Hishiro looks at provides ramen and tsukemen.
Huh? For some reason, when I look at this “Genus Port” place, I’m reminded of a place which I think is in Los Angeles (or it could be in Las Vegas or Hong Kong, I don’t remember). There’s a bunch of shops around there, a fountain and a painted sky on the roof, plus a fancy yellow brick “building” in the middle somewhere. I think it was vaguely Italian or other European-looking in shop aesthetic, but that’s all I can get from the depths of my brain…
The words “grow up” have a very special meaning here in two different ways.
I’m still wondering, why does the guy always have to fall in love first? If the guy isn’t in love first, the girl sometimes gets laughed at or people just call it a transient crush. It’s quite saddening, to get your feelings crushed like that.
Score one! The song is La La La Love Song by Toshinobu Kubota with Naomi Campbell.
The final episode is called “Life”, which doesn’t match “Seed” or “Need” at all. Nor does it match “Date”. Fair weather charms would be teru teru bouzu.
ReLIFE OVA 4 (FINAL)
Did I see the map of Japan on the wall in the original series??? Or is that a new addition?
Aw, this scene where they just cry for a minute really got to me. Not that I cried, but it really hit me in the feels.
I’ve never heard this phrase before…”pat answer”? Okay…?
I think Onoya just wanted senpai to notice her, LOL.
The revelation that Arata wanted to work for the ReLIFE lab startled even me, and I tackled the series long before a lot of people got in on it!
Yoake-san’s got a moon on his icon. Considering his surname means “daybreak” and one kanji means “night”, it makes complete sense.
I couldn’t read the nameplate, but you can tell from the clothing colours that’s Ohga’s house.
I found this article on hikikomori one time and thought it would be relevant to share here, actually. It’s talking about a company that gets hikikomori to be social again through repeated correspondence…kind of like ReLIFE itself.
As soon as I saw the line “Fate may tear us far apart”, I knew the ED for this episode was “Button”.
Why do I get the feeling there’s still something left for me to see…?
I was so dang close to crying when they remembered each other! Gah! I need to recover, but I have some new episodes on tap as well. So, with that, it’s the end of our time with each other, ReLIFE. Farewell, and until next time.
Dances with the Dragons 1
I think, out of simplicity, I’ll call this show “Saredo” (“Even Still”) instead. As to how I was attracted to this show, it was because not only are there some great voices at the helm, but I think “physics x magic” could really go places as a concept.
Guy with big sword. It reminds me of a lot of shonen anime, like D Gray Man…or even Deltora Quest…
“SareRyuu”? That seems like a strange name, I think “Saredo” suits it better.
The only thing I fixated on in Gigina’s full name was the weird mention of “Ashley” somewhere in it. If anyone were to tease him, that would be a wide opening for them to attack him with.
This is looking like a Grancrest all over again, which spells bad things (LOL) about this show. Despite that, an Aini seems to be the spell Gayus (learnt his name from promo material) was using.
Gayus and Gigina have a great rapport. If they decide to go comedy with this show, it seems that would be very welcome here.
My mind is blown…it’s a sword, but it also provides armour and kind of acts like a gun in how it does that…amazing…
I feel like I’m really back in the driver’s seat, now that I’m getting my first new action anime in 2 seasons! Winter wasn’t bad but it can’t keep an action anime fan down!
Gigina’s a competent dragon slayer, eh? Slay me instead *wink wink, nudge nudge*! (LOL)
So an Altar is a special type of dragon, one that’s so special it has to be in a league of its own. Duly noted.
This show is screaming for a dub, for some reason…that’s my thoughts on it, anyway.
Notably, Kenryu in Japanese could translate to “sword dragon” with the right kanji combo.
Wow, this show is really political. I’ve getting Grancrest vibes all over again…
Uh…I guess I was wrong on the overall quality of humour in this show. The Horton joke was so black, I couldn’t see through it!
Is it possible in this world to arrest a dragon for murder? Or do you just slay it?
“They must be pretty good.”
Gayus is such a Kunikida, LOL. Except he drinks…uh…coffee? Tea? Not sure what his beverage of choice is, actually.
Juku and jushiki…are you trying to make my head spin with all the tongue twisters???
Wow, those green gems even have names like guns!
Well…Gigina isn’t quite Dazai, but I guess every straight man needs someone more frivolous to play off of…
“Falusi” appears to be a Hungarian word for villager (at least, Wiktionary said that when I checked it)…which obviously doesn’t work here. Stupid fantasy words…
The cut between the screaming man and Gayus wasn’t the best…
“Science-oriented”? Y’mean there are ones that are magic-oriented as well? Ooh.
*squints at this dude with black hair* He kinda looks like Ibusuki Ata (Boueibu Happy Kiss).
Someone went all out on the aesthetic for the ED! Wowee…
Even though these fantasy words and names are going to make my head spin and I’m sure this show isn’t for everyone, I’ll be keeping it on for now. You can tell it’s more competent than Mahou Shoujo Ore from the air it holds, but Mahou Shoujo Ore is a lot more fun…so this’ll be a tough decision if I have to cut either of them…

Full Dive – 01 (First Impressions) – Reality Bytes
Tumblr media
Just as Tyrell Corporation’s replicants were billed as “more human than human”, Kiwame Quest was meant to be a full-dive VR RPG “more like real life than real life”—stimulating all five senses and capable of near-infinite routes. The problem is, video games are supposed to be like video games: a relaxing escape from the troubles of real life. So KQ was panned and receded into obscurity.
Our dull MC Yuuki Hiro’s life sucks. Something traumatic happened two years ago that everyone around him can’t help but keep bringing up and dancing around; he’s entering his final year of high school and still not sure what he’s going to do. He “lends” cash to two delinquents, so he’s a key short when it’s time to purchase Finalizing Quest 22 (the show’s FF equivalent).
Tumblr media
Certain he won’t find FQ22 for sale at a lower price, he rolls the dice at the unassuming and deserted Kisaragi game store. The newest FQ on display is last year’s, and when he asks the gorgeous clerk Kisaragi Reona if they have 22 in stock, she goes on a passionate and unsolicited rant about how people just keep buying FQ out of habit despite diminishing returns.
Reona has something else in store for the low, low price of 10,000 yen: Kiwame Quest, which Hiro has never heard of. Dismissing FQ as “innocent”, she calls KQ “a super hardcore full-dive RPG for adults”, and since she logs in regularly, she’ll be there to teach him what he needs to know “attentively and patiently”. Hiro reluctantly agrees to the transaction and heads home.
Tumblr media
Hiro’s home, by the way, seems to have been lit by Zack Snyder. After learning KQ is a decade old but not being able to reach Reona on her phone, and after the obligatory walking in on his sister in her underwear, Hiro settles into his room, switches on his VR gaming system, and dives in.
He’s initially underwhelmed by the opening spiel, telling him to begin the quest to defeat the Demon Lord by leaving the city and heading to Flora Castle. But once he coalesces in the game world, he is soon legitimately impressed by the realism, and the fact he can feel the metal of a window handle and the wind blowing in.
He soon meets Alicia, an NPC who is anything but. She’s his character’s childhood friend, and Martin is her “nice young man” big brother. They’ve come to invite Hiro to join them for apple picking. When he tells them ihis intent to leave the city and asks where Flora Castle is, they react like his head’s on backwards.
Tumblr media
Apparently there’s no entering or leaving the city walls due to the heightened threat of goblin attacks. When Hiro waves that threat away, assuming it’s a low-level battle, Martin is convinced Hiro is mad and tries to beat him back into coherence. It’s here it’s confirmed that a punch to the face is every bit as painful as the real thing.
Thoroughly pissed off and out of patience by a game that’s not going the way these games usually go, Hiro lashes out at Martin, shoving him to the ground. When he doesn’t move, Hiro leans in to find the knife Martin was using to cut an apple went straight through his mouth and out the back of his throat, killing him.
Tumblr media
Alicia freaks, and Hiro, still not sure how the hell things got to this particular place, decides the only thing to do for now is to run. A crazed Alicia chases him like the Terminator, but he eventually loses her in a downtown alley. It’s there where Reona finally joins him, but in a neat bit of camerawork it’s revealed she’s a tiny fairy, who is there to be his guide.
She also points out that the little tag around his neck is etched with a title to denote his game progress so far. Hiro is unable to tell her what has happened before she reads his tag and learns for herself: “Best Friend Killer.” Hiro’s been diving less than ten minutes, but it’s already Game Over, Man!
Full Dive is helped by its offbeat approach to VR game immersion, and by its crisp and highly expressive character designs and smooth animation. It is hurt more than anything else by its absolute flat-line of a protagonist. Granted, some of his reactions are fun and he’s supposed to be dull. Still, I want to watch the next episode, if nothing else to see whether he’ll start over or continue on from this bloody, disastrous start!

Kiwame Quest, dopo Cautious Hero in arrivo l’anime di un’altra novel firmata Light Tuchihi
La serie animata debutterà sulle tv giapponesi in primavera!
Tumblr media
Annunciata la produzione di una serie animata basata sulla light novel “Kyoukyoku Shinka Shita Full Dive RPG ga Genjitsu Yorimo Kuso-Ge Dattara” (What If the Ultimate in Fully Immersive VR RPGs Was a Crappier Game Than Reality Itself) di Light Tuchihi, l’autore di “Cautious Hero”, opera che ha già ispirato un adattamento animato arrivato in Italia su VVVVID nell’autunno 2019.
L’anime debutterà in Giappone ad aprile 2021 e a dirigerlo presso lo studio ENGI (Kemono Michi: Rise Up, Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!) troviamo Kazuya Miura (Kemono Michi: Rise Up, Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!).
Hiro Yuuki: Daiki Yamashita (Izuku Midoriya in My Hero Academia)
Reona Kisaragi: Ayana Taketatsu (Nino Nakano in The Quintessential Quintuplets)
Alicia: Ai Fairouz (Eripiyo in OshiBudo)
Mizarisa: Shiori Izawa (Nanachi in Made in Abyss)
Kaede Yuuki: Aoi Koga (Kaguya Shinomiya in Kaguya-sama: Love is War)
Martin: Haruki Ishiya (Jin Mazama in Seton Academy: Join the Pack!)
Kadokawa ha pubblicato il primo volume della light novel, corredato delle illustrazioni ad opera di Youta (The struggle of fortunate idiots, Dungeon master wants to sleep now and forever...), lo scorso agosto e per il 25 dicembre di quest’anno è prevista l’uscita del secondo.

    Synopsis:
A dull high school student, Hiro Yuuki, acquired the full-dive RPG "Kiwame Quest" by chance. The game, created with the best of technology, lives up to its catchphrase "Mastering Realism." The graphics, the behavior of NPCs, the scent of plants and trees, and the breeze that strokes your skin, everything is the ultimate in quality. --Except the fact it is too realistic to make it a troublesome game that it is impossible to clear! "More than 10,000,000,000,000,000 flags!?  My physical abilities are the same as in the real world!!" "Yes. If you get hit, it hurts, and if you get cut, the wound doesn't heal for days. It's the most realistic game ever!" The only reward is a sense of accomplishment. Conquer the most stressful game of all time, which can't be played lightly!"
