Happy Līgo! Have some music for the occasion!

So I usually try to do music from a bunch of different countries on these playlists, but now that the Latvian thing has become an acknowledged running joke, it's time to take it to the next level. Also, while I dunk on the algorithm as much as any tumblr user... it really has taken my love of Citi Zēni and turned into a plethora of awesome artists that I've had an amazing time listening to. So I'm gonna just give Latvia some love here.

The game is simple: Pick a song from one of my bad descriptions. You do not have to recognize the song to pick it. Just go with the description that suits your mood. Feel the vibes. Vote, reblog so other people can vote, and at the end of a week I will make a playlist out of the results, from the song with the least votes to the song with the most votes.

in the days leading to the summer solstice you can see so many people in Latvian traditional dress in the streets, scurrying to and from dance and choir practice and concerts, holding assortments of wild flowers and greens. summer truly is the best time to be in Latvia. wouldn't change it for the world.

I just realized that Līgo has already arrived. Some people launched fireworks an hour ago lol. And my parents bought me a beer (...okay, a beer drink). The summer solstice (i wanna call it midsummer/midsommar because uhh idk it sounds cool) is my favorite holiday, even though the weather now is more like late autumn.

Cut the cucumber, tomatos, bell pepper, and spinach into smaller pieces, and transfer them to the same bowl. Mix well. 🥗 In a mug or a small bowl, mix all the ingredients for the sauce - lemon juice, olive oil, and salt - and pour it over the salad. Alternatively, you may also add some hummus instead of the sauce - it will give extra savoriness. The fern flower (papardes zieds) is a magic flower in Latvian mythology. It is supposed to appear only on the night of 23 to 24 June during the celebration of the summer solstice which is called Jāņi in Latvia. In addition to the idea that the finder of the fern flower will become rich or happy, here, the fern flower is sometimes perceived a symbol of fertility, and if a couple is looking for the fern flower, they're most likely making love somewhere in the woods. 😏
