Binibining Pilipinas 2023: My Final Predictions

With only two (2) titles at stake (unless a surprise crown is announced at the last-crowning-minute), it leaves me with a sad heart accepting the fact that the casualty rate for Binibining Pilipinas 2023 is higher than all editions of previous years. There have been several significant events happening in the Philippines in 2023. Here are some of them: ● Araneta City showcases sustainable fashion show with Binibining Pilipinas Beauties In conjunction with Women's Month and Earth Hour celebrations, Araneta City will host the Women Reinventing sustainable fashion show on March 24, 2023 at 1 pm in the afternoon at Farmers Square. The premiere city hired Binibining Pilipinas International 2021 Hannah Arnold and the Binibining Pilipinas 2023 candidates to showcase the exquisite work of Filipino designers crafted from eco-friendly materials. The Binibinis present an amazing collection of 12 local artisans who specialize in unique sustainable designs, as well as jewelry by Tina Campos and accessories by Christopher Munar, handbags by Ma. Delza's Native Product, and Aishe’s stylish shoes. All of them have made their mark on the local fashion scene with their creative sustainable products, made by women for women. The event also marks the City of Araneta's participation in the global Earth Hour, which will take place on March 25, 2023. The Firsts city will join the hour-long energy saving event with lights-out event. Ali mall also has a POP QC Ecological Market and charging station for bicycle mobile phones. and a Trade-A-Bag promo in Farmers Plaza.

● Binibining Pilipinas 2023 talent show celebrates Women Supremacy On March 29 2023,The Binibining Pilipinas 2023 candidates showcased their quirky pasarela and talents in a one of a kind presentation at the New Frontier Theater in Araneta City. Hosted by Bb Pilipinas Intercontinental 2022 Gabrielle Basiano, Bb Pilipinas Globe 2022 Chelsea Fernandez, Bb Pilipinas Grand International 2022 Roberta Tamondong, and Bb Pilipinas 2022 2nd runner-up Stacey Gabriel, the show highlights Filipino talents, colorful culture, and the supremacy of Filipina beauty. The quartet P-Pop girl group G22 kicked off the show with a fiery performance. Then the beauties rocked the stage in a JAG fashion show segment. Considered one of the major events for Binibining Pilipinas, the talent show proves the versatility of the

contestants. A total of 28 contestants conquered the audience and judges with their singing, dancing, and artistic talents. The Binibining Pilipinas 2023 Best in Talent will be announced on the Grand Coronation Night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

● Binibining Pilipinas 2023 set a date for Coronation Night

Manila, Philippines, 2023 the official ceremony for the 2023 Coronation night for Binibining Pilipinas will take place on Sunday , May 28, 2023 at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Cubao. Show starts at 9:30pm. The pageant organizers Binibining Pilipinas charities INC (BPCI) announced the news on social media on Saturday, April 15, 2023. According to the announcement, the show will also be streamed live on A2Z, Kapamilya Live Online and Metro channels, as well as on the official YouTube channels of iWantTFC Binibining Pilipinas. This year's pageant featured 40 women representing the country in two International pageant —Miss International and Miss Globe International. The winners will be over from the current title holders 2022 Binibining Pilipinas International Champion Nicole Borromeo and 2022 Binibining Pilipinas Globe Champion Chelsee Fernandez. Gabrelle Camille Basiano and Roberta Tamondong have won the 2022 Philippine International Championship and the 2022 Philippine Grand International Championship respectively, but their titles will not be passed on. The Miss International franchise is taken over by Mutya ng Pilipinas while BPCI pulls out the Miss Grand International.

● Binibining Pilipinas withdraws from Miss Grand International franchise

The Manila Philippines, Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc (BPCI) announced on Monday, November 7th that they are no longer renewing their franchise with the Miss Globe InternationaL (MGI) beauty pageant. BPCI did not provide any details on why it withdrew , but thanked the Miss Grand International organizers and wished them “the best in their future endeavors.” No Philippine Beauty queen has won the Globe crown since Miss Globe International opened in 2013.

Just like every province, Pampanga also has numerous entertaining facts. Including their culture, history, and beliefs.

1. Have you heard yet that Kapampangans are known as deeply religious?

The majority of Kapampangans are practicing Catholicism. With that, the province is famous for its yearly Good Friday practice of flagellation and crucifixion, which still draws large crowds of residents and visitors. Locals do take their faith very deeply. While the province's Good Friday ritual is not approved or even advised by the country's religious leaders, it is still attended regularly by many Catholics across the world.

2. Did you know that Pampanga has seventeen festivals in total?

To date, Pampanga has at least seventeen festivals celebrating a variety of themes. Religious or public remarks are some subjects, as is a culinary theme, considering the province's reputation. Some of these colorful celebrations includes the Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta, held at Clark Field in February, the Giant Lantern Festival in San Fernando around Christmastime, the Sisig Festival at SM Clark, and the San Pedro Cutud Lenten Rites on Good Friday are some of the most popular festivals.

3. Have you ever heard that it was once the capital of the Philippines?

 Well, Pampanga was the country's capital for two years. It happened between 1762 and 1764, during the British occupation of Manila. In reality, during the Spanish colonial time, Pampanga was one of the provinces that functioned excellently and was economically capable to the point where Manila and its surrounding areas were largely dependent on it. Pampanga province provided agricultural, fish, and forestry products to nearby areas regularly. No wonder, it was once the capital of the Philippines!

4. Did you notice that it is the first province created by the Spaniards?

The Spaniards established the province of Pampanga in 1571, making it the first province in the Philippines. Bataan, Bulacan, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Zambales, and Pangasinan were all part of the area back then. Que lugar tan notable, Pampanga! {What a remarkable place, Pampanga!}

5. Were you aware that the province produced two Philippine Presidents?

Diosdado Macapagal, the Philippines' ninth president, was born and raised in the province of Pampanga. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, the fourteenth president of the Philippine Republic and, as a result, the first woman president, was also a Pampanga native. Indeed, Pampanga has generated a significant number of politically active people. Further, it has also produced a Senate president (Gil J. Puyat) and a Chief Justice (Jose Abad Santos). Back then up to the present time, it is also a home to celebrities and artists such as Lea Salonga, Apl de Ap, Jacklyn Jose, Donita Rosa, and many others. No wonder, Pampanga is full of talented and amazing Cabalens!

6. Ever wondered if Pampanga has an “iconic edifice”? Well, yes! There is.

Did you know that the Salakot Arch, which can be seen at Dalan Manuel A. Roxas, Barangay Balibago, Angeles City, was once located in the Clark Air Base's passageway? This well-known landmark is shaped like the Philippines' traditional headgear and signifies the town's independence from the Americans. Aside from that, it also serves as a source of pride for residents of the city, the Angeleños.

Mirna Sanchez – A 54-year-old controlling mother, the mother of Marco Sanchez

Lawrence – A block mate of Marco Sanchez

The time is the present.

 PLACE

A small condo unit in Makati, Philippines

Scene 5

Late afternoon. Inside Marco’s condo unit. MIRNA sits on the sofa, watching the Television.

FOOTSTEPS outside the unit is heard. IAN softly knocks on the door.

MIRNA

(Stands up and opens the door)

Oh. It’s you again. I told you a million times. I will never accept you in this family. Do not go here again.

(Starts to close the door to reject Ian)

IAN

(Contests and opens the door)

Ma’am, I want to respect you as much as I can. I just want to know if he’s okay, and I brought his medicines. Again, my intention for your son is always pure and sincere. How can you be so rude? We could talk for a moment, shall we?

MIRNA

(Furiously looks IAN in the eye then heavily breaths)

After this discussion, I don’t want to see your face ever again. Everyone knows our family and yours. We have built good and excellent name. You don’t have the rights to destroy my son’s life! If you continue to do this, it will bring disgrace to me. Do you understand?

IAN

(Nods for approval)

However, it would be better if you’ll listen to me. No one wants to be rejected, especially if I stand for love.

MIRNA

(Ignores IAN and walks to the kitchen area)

Before you talk nonsense, I’ll go first. Since my son will be graduating this year to finish his college degree, he will be married to Lea a few months after. Her family has a well-known business that goes international. Besides, we have known each other ever since Marco was a kid.

IAN

Are you saying you have planned his life all along? I don’t think he will approve to that setup, nor he is informed!

MIRNA

He doesn’t need to know. I only know what’s best for my son. And you! You don’t even belong there.

(Moves closer to IAN)

He follows every command I tell him to do. He acts very disciplined and well-mannered.

IAN

Do you actually know how he feels towards you? Are you aware that he feels all the pressure and anxiety because of you? Of course, you don’t! You will never see the Marco you have trained and didn’t love.

MIRNA

Shush! How could I be standing here, talking to some disappointment in life by someone. No doubt it was just you who have influenced my son not to follow me! You made me look so unkind to Marco! You don’t deserve him!

IAN

Marco and I have shared a lot of memories together. We have planned our future together. A successful and happy life is what we want.

MIRNA

You still have a lot of things to learn, young man. Do not attempt to provoke me and my rights as his mother! You know nothing!

IAN

No, you know nothing!

(Breaths heavily because of frustration)

Do you want to know why he hates you? It is because you’re too controlling and too selfish. You think only for yourself! You don’t bother to ask if he’s okay or he’s happy. All you ever wanted is fame and money.

MIRNA

(Slaps IAN on the left cheek)

How dare you to say all those things? Love is not enough in building a family! You can’t even bear a child. So, stop acting like you made his life and completed his world!

IAN

(Starts to feel outraged)

We have faced a lot of difficulties in life. There were a lot of challenges that questioned our love for one another. So, stop acting as if he will be happy to be with someone else!

MIRNA

Shout at me all you can, but he’s already dead!

IAN

(Tries to contemplate with what MIRNA has said)

No, no. I don’t believe you! Where is he?

MIRNA

He does not message you nor update you about his life, right? Because he’s gone and that is because of you!

IAN

If he’s dead, where is he, then?

(Tries to hold back his tears)

Answer me, where is he?!

(Slowly walking towards MIRNA)

MIRNA

I won’t ever tell you. You’re just a stranger who claims to be the best person for my son. And you have failed to be.

IAN

(Stares at a blank space)

So as you, Mrs. Sanchez.

(Stares at MIRNA)

The only difference between you and me is that I sincerely appreciate Marco. That’s why I love him more than anything in this world. While you, you’re an irresponsible and homophobic mother who does not have any plans on seeing her son as a normal human being. You see him as a pet that you can control and command. Right?

MIRNA

(Starts to hurt Ian hysterically)  

How could you be so disrespectful, you’re just a piece of trash! I don’t want to see you again! Leave this place now! Or else I’ll kill you!

IAN

(Tries to stop MIRNA)

Stop! Hey, hey you! Stop! That’s enough!

(Sees a knife near him, unconsciously grabs it, and aggressively stabs MIRNA)

You killed my only hope. You have killed my future! So, die! Die now!

(IAN finally realizes what just happened)

Oh no. No, no, no, no. Look what I have done.

(Releases the knife and sits on the floor)

This is the end, my love.

(IAN cries hysterically while shaking)

I’ll be there. Wait for me.

(Drinks all the anti-depressant medicine of Marco and dies)

FOOTSTEPS from outside the unit are heard. MARCO knocks on the door. Nobody answered.

MARCO

(Opens the door)

Mom?

(Sees MIRNA and IAN on the floor, lifeless)

No, no, no, no. This can’t be happening! Mom, wake up. Babe, open your eyes! Mom! Ian, please! Oh, God!

(Starts crying heavily, takes the knife, stabs himself)

LAWRENCE

(Enters the unit)

Bro, I think we forgot some—Bro!

(Attempts to stop MARCO from killing himself, but failed)

MARCO

(Starts to feel weak)

No, no. Don’t worry about me. I’ll be good.

LAWRENCE

(Tries to carry MARCO)

Hey, buddy. We need to get out of here, okay? Listen to me. Stay with me you’ll be all right, Got it?

MARCO

I don’t have enough energy anymore, Rence. Please make sure that my corpse must be beside Ian’s. And tell the world that I deeply loved him with all my heart and soul. Always.

(Looks at IAN)

Forever.

(Closes his eyes and dies)
