Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation review
The original Dragon Quest was an extremely important and influential game that built the foundations to the Japanese role playing game genre, but was an extremely basic game that would end up outclassed by nearly any other RPG on the NES released afterwards that wasn’t completely incompetent, and while Dragon Quest II improved upon the foundation of the original, namely in terms of party progression, it was also a rushed, unbalanced, overly difficult and overall tedious experience. Despite its importance, Dragon Quest’s third installment would have to be a significant step up, and as luck would have it, it was, becoming another of the most legendary and important RPGs ever made, and firmly cementing Dragon Quest as a series that would stay around even to the present day, and how exactly this came to be is what we’ll be looking at today. The version I played was the SNES remake with a fan made English patch, so many of the names in the screenshots won’t match up with official translations. Other options are the Game Boy Color version, which was officially released in English, and even has a bit more exclusive content, namely a very time consuming sidequest and a bonus dungeon related to it, the Ice Cave, and much more recently, the mobile/Switch version, which is also available in English, and is based on the SNES version, minus some of its exclusive content. Be warned, there will be spoilers.
Story: In an unnamed land, geographically similar to the real world, the archfiend Baramos has appeared and unleashed monsters to plague the land, with its people’s woes ranging from groups of bandits robbing kings and kidnapping citizens, to monsters impersonating rulers, to entire towns being wiped out by the forces of Baramos, who ultimately plots to destroy the entire world. A hero from Aliahan, Ortega, once set out on a journey to slay the archfiend, only to fall in combat with a dragon over a volcano. The child of Ortega is thus given the task of slaying Baramos themselves on their 16th birthday, with the help of a group of adventurers recruited from Aliahan’s tavern.
On the surface, it’s still not much more of a plot than the first two games, and for the most part, that is true, but it’s still much more interesting simply because there’s much more going on. Many of the towns you visit are facing some sort of crisis, or have some sort of interesting circumstances around them, such as the immigrant town that slowly changes and expands as the game goes on, making them a lot more fun to discover and explore compared to the towns of the first two games. Additionally, there’s the famous and influential late game twist that strikes after defeating Baramos, namely the reveal of Zoma, Baramos’ superior, and the second world map of Alefgard, the setting of the first Dragon Quest. These two twists are a large part of what made Dragon Quest III so impactful when it came out in 1988, and considering the game presents itself as unrelated to the previous games, and that by the time you defeat Baramos, you’ll have explored the entire world, barring two small locations at most, they hold up fairly well even today. There’s not much more for me to add besides this, however, so it’s time to hop straight to the gameplay.
Gameplay: Dragon Quest III uses the same turn based battle system as the first two games, and besides things like new types of spells and weapons, not too much is changed with the combat itself. The biggest change DQ3 provides is to the party progression system. Instead of the Hero being completely alone like the first game, or gaining two fixed party members in the second, DQ3 allows you to build a party from the ground up, besides the Hero, who’s always required to be in the party, and has the exclusive Hero class, with well balanced stats and unique and useful spells. The party size has been increased to four at a time, and party members can be created and exchanged in Aliahan, with a total of 8 different classes they can be: warriors, slow, yet well equipped physical fighters that act has tanks and heavy hitters, priests, who specialize in healing and support spells and, contrary to most healers in RPGs, actually have decent equipment and offensive options, mages, typical magic attackers with great offensive spells, yet bad physical stats, martial artists, physical attackers with great agility who forgo most equipment and have a higher chance of landing critical hits, merchants, average at best fighters who have supporting abilities like being able to earn extra gold after battle, gadabouts, odd and clownish characters with bad stats besides luck, and a fixed chance to simply goof off and take random actions instead of doing as commanded, thieves, a class exclusive to the remakes, with great agility and several abilities that mainly help with exploration, and sages, who learn nearly every spell in the game, and have a wide selection of equipment options, yet cannot be put in the party to start.
Compared to Final Fantasy I, which had a similar class based party system, and came out only a few months before DQ3, this system actually has quite a few advancements. Most importantly, you’re never simply stuck with the party you start with. As long as you can make it to Aliahan, you can simply make new characters and swap out whoever you’re currently using. Obviously, doing this too much isn’t very practical, considering new members will be behind on EXP, but not being able to permanently lock yourself into an awful party combination is a big improvement alone. Party members who have reached level 20 can also change classes at Alltrades Abbey, resetting their level to 1, and cutting their stats in half, but keeping any learned abilities, meaning, if you were so inclined, you could make a mage with the physical stats of a warrior, a warrior with the speed of a thief, and so forth. Changing classes like this is also the only way to get sages into the party, and even then, only with the use of a Words of Wisdom book, of which only two exist in the game. This lends itself to a lot of creativity, and while I personally didn’t use this mechanic much, only turning my priest into a sage, it’s still an impressive level of complexity for a game this old.
The class balance is also fairly interesting, as beyond the upsides and downsides already listed, classes also level at different rates. Warriors are expensive to equip and very slow, but level the fastest out of the main offensive classes. Martial artists are, by contrast, very cheap, but have the third slowest leveling rate in the game, and the little equipment they do have is usually pretty difficult to get, especially their weapons. Merchants are guaranteed to eventually fall behind if you try to use them, but actually have quite a bit of exclusive, and good, equipment early on, and level the fastest out of everyone. Gadabouts are liabilities, but level second fastest, and can become sages for free once they reach level 20, making them an investment class. Despite how several classes are very obviously inferior in the long run, you actually can get away with some pretty unorthodox party combinations, at least earlier on. Take my party of hero, warrior, martial artist, and priest: very strong physically, but expensive to upkeep, despite the martial artist somewhat balancing it out, and lacking in offensive magic. While switching the priest to sage later on mostly fixed the latter issue, I was still left wishing I had taken a mage with me from the start several times, and yet I was still more than capable of finishing the game. While the difficulty has definitely been lowered compared to the first two games, that’s still a sign of ultimately successful balancing.
For some more combat related changes and improvements, some stats have been added or changed since the first two games. Resilience now determines how many hit points a character can gain when leveling up along with being added to physical defense as before, Wisdom determines a character’s potential magic points, as well as how soon they learn spells, with spells being delayed or expedited by up to three levels, and Luck determines how well a character can avoid debuffs and status ailments inflicted by monsters. Related to these stats, exclusive to the remakes is the personality system, which affects the stat growth of each character, with each party member gaining a personality during character creation or, in the case of the Hero, through a personality quiz given at the start of the game. While this generally doesn’t matter too much for casual play, assuming you aren’t unlucky enough to get the worst personalities on all your party members, it still adds an even greater deal of complexity, either allowing you to try to compensate for a character’s weaknesses, or add to their strengths. You could, for example, give a female warrior the Amazon personality, raising their strength growth, but lowering their agility, wisdom, and luck growth, stats they don’t care about much anyway. You can also change personalities during the course of the game, either temporarily by equipping certain accessories, or permanently by reading certain books scattered throughout the game, which further adds to the depth. It’s a bit overwhelming, but still pretty interesting to see.
Beyond the combat and classes, there’s still a lot of nice things to see. The bag from DQ6, which can hold an unlimited amount of items which can be taken out at any time, has been added, allowing easy inventory management on the spot. The Zoom spell now lets you return to towns of your choice, rather than the last place you saved your game, and while not every town can be warped to, it’s still a massive time saver. There’s a day night cycle, which gradually changes when traversing the world map and affects the state of the towns, and while it isn’t super prominent, there are a few towns pretty heavily affected by it, and you actually get a few ways to manipulate it later on. There’s also a few minigames added, once again exclusive to the remakes, those being the monster arena, where you can bet on computer controlled monster fights for the chance of winning money, and Treasures n' Trapdoors, which is basically a giant board game one of your party members can traverse, with several very valuable prizes available, both from winning and from landing on certain spots on the boards. Despite being very luck based, it’s creative and rewarding enough that the boards are actually a lot of fun to play, and the Switch version lacking this minigame entirely is a big shame. The remakes also added the Cloudsgate Citadel, a bonus dungeon accessible after defeating the final boss, with a superboss, Xenlon, waiting at the end. Defeating Xenlon within a certain number of turns allows you one wish, such as opening up a new Treasures n’ Trapdoors track, or resurrecting a certain character, and thankfully, you don’t actually need to traverse the entire dungeon again to refight Xenlon for more wishes, as a Zoom location is added only a few rooms away.
The biggest improvement DQ3 makes, however, is just how well the game flows. There’s still grinding to be found, yes, but generally, the game goes by much faster. Characters move quickly, the difficulty, as mentioned before, is much lowered, so you don’t need to grind 5 levels just to walk a bit north, and there’s just a lot of variety that keeps the game fresh all the way through, instead of becoming monotonous like DQ2. The dungeons are also much more reasonably designed compared to the giant, nightmarish mazes of DQ2, and while you do get a ship like in DQ2, it comes quite a bit later, keeping the amount of areas now available to explore from being as overwhelming. The obligatory key item fetch quest, this time collecting the six orbs to hatch the phoenix Ramia, is also much more reasonable to complete, with the orbs either being in locations that NPCs directly talk about, or being acquired by fighting bosses. Speaking of which, there’s also many more bosses than in previous games, and while they’re not as frequent as in most RPGs, they still add a nice bit of variety, along with actually being pretty challenging, in a good way. Overall, Dragon Quest III’s gameplay actually holds up very well, and just makes it a lot of fun to play. Even considering this is a remake with a lot of quality of life improvements, I was amazed that this was originally an NES game.
Graphics: DQ3′s visuals are quite nice, as the SNES version was made with DQ6′s engine. To give a comparison, whereas the games using DQ5′s engine were about comparable to the visuals of Final Fantasy IV and V, the visuals here are comparable to Final Fantasy VI, and considering that’s one of the best looking SNES games out there, that’s a pretty big leap. The character designs come out quite well, and many locations have unique looks to them, both towns and dungeons, with the Pyramid and Baramos’ ghastly castle sticking out the most to me. The enemy battle sprites are still great, and are actually animated whenever they attack, adding a lot of life to them.
Sound: As with the rest of the series, DQ3′s soundtrack was done by Koichi Sugiyama, and it’s once again a great soundtrack, even better than the soundtracks of the previous games. From the peaceful Small Shrine, to the iconic Overture, to the peaceful Heavenly Flight, to the world map theme Adventure, to the great final boss theme, Hero’s Challenge, it’s a soundtrack that’s a joy to listen to. It also gives towns different themes for both day and night, which is one of my favorite things to see in games.
Conclusion: Overall, I would give Dragon Quest III a recommended. It’s aged very, very well, and genuinely feels like it could have been on the SNES to start. Between the much deeper, yet ultimately accessible mechanics that give quite a bit of replay value, to much better overall design gameplay, graphical, and sound design, it makes a fantastic entry point for the series, if you have a liking for classic RPGs. Till next time. -Scout

BNHA X Cars
KaminariSo, this is basically BNHA Street racer AU. But to be more precise I’m picking the cars for the characters from BNHA. Because cars have characteristic, it has personality and it describes you as a person. Not just based from the body but the engines and the car as whole. So, this is my pick of cars for the character of BNHA
Part 1 For the boys
I’m going to divide it into 2 cars. One is for daily drive/Sports car and the other is The Supercar. The Sports car will describe them as characters individuals. While the Supercar will describe their full potentials.
Midoriya Izuku
Midoriya Izuku, The protagonist of the Anime. He is too good of a boy to mess around street Racing. The Color for his car is obviously Green, in that case I Recommend Him.
Sport car/ Daily Drive:
The Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX.

To be more specific. It is Brian’s First car In the Fast and the furious franchise (R.I.P Paul Walker). This car is one of the Tuners favorite car to modify. It is run by 4G63 Engine, it is the same Engine that run an EVO F*CKING LANCER which is one of the finest cars that has been made on earth (Minus the Turbo). So it plays well with the whole inheritance thing with All Might.
Supercar:
For the supercar, I would Recommend McLaren 675LT

This car Look Great In green. The whole characteristic of this car reminds me of Midoriya. This car shown how it can blend to the society, how it was able to move fast and aggressively while at the same time maintaining Elegance. This car looked slim, but its performance is something else 3.8 L V8 Twin Turbo Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) Gives the ability for the driver to drive like a maniac. The car produces more or less 675 Horsepower (Just like its name) and can go to 0-100 Km in 2.9 Seconds and a top speed with 330 Km/h (205 Mph).
Bakugo Katsuki
For Bakugo, His car has to be loud and Fast! He needs a car that’s intimidating. For the color I’m Thinking Red, Yellow or Black. But since the car need to look Antagonizing, I’m going with black. So, the car that I propose.
Sport Car/ Daily Drive:
Dodge Charger SRT Hell Cat 2015

This car is a 6.2L Hemi V8 Supercharged. The roars in this car is nothing short. This car is for sure is Intimidating. The roar of the engine is equivalent to Bakugo’s Roar of explosive anger. I was considering the newer one like the SRT Redeye Hellcat or even The Demon. But the demons is more of the inner demon screaming trying to get out. It needed a Rumbling sound of the V8, The insane roar that is deafening.
Supercar:
For the Supercar, it is very difficult. I can choose Hyper cars but they just felt a bit too well mannered compared to Bakugo. But I’ve given a lot of thought and the only car that fits is This
Pagani Zonda R

This car is basically an f1 with a two-seater and a roof. This bad boy is a track only car. So, it is “Street Illegal!!” But that won’t stop Bakugo for using this beauty. This car on high rev speaks will be all the explanation needed on the reason why I chose this car. A car with 700 BHP and only weight 1,070 Kg (In comparison Ford focus weight 1,471 Kg) Which is like a feather.
Todoroki Shoto
For Todoroki His car has to be cool, matured and Luxurious but also High performance. I’m a bit mixed up with the colors Whether I should make it blue or white or red. But since I cant decide I leave it in the ‘Grey’ area. Get it? Ill just get on with it.
Sport Car/ Daily Drive:
Aston Martin DB11

Aston Martin is well known on it’s Luxury and History. Which fits Todoroki’s Prince aura/Characteristics. The performance is also nothing short, Aston Martin is also well known to make a brilliant Engine for racing. A twin turbocharged V12 Produce 600 BHP with a top speed 201Km/h (125Mph).
Supercar
For the Super car, I think Lamborghini Huracan Performante.

It is a naturally aspirated 5.2L V10 Engine AWD. This car has a fierce fiery engine on its car but still has that cool matured Body. And the ALA (Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva) Is brilliant. It is an active Aerodynamic system that allows the car to go faster.
Tenya Iida:
Sport Car/ Daily Drive:
Is the Brabus 800 GT 63s

This car is perfect fot Iida, It has a look in which my friend quote “Sophisticated Look”. And Mind you this car is probably The Fastest Car! For the sport/daily drive Car compare than anyone else in the list. This car packs a crazy 800 BHP and that’s says it all
Supercar:

The fastest Car In the world! In 2010. The specific look that I would like to go is Drift From Transformer: Age Of Extinction. That Blue Lining is perfect for Iida. For some people engines might be boring, But this car have the power of 1200 Horses in it
Kirishima Eijiro
Sport Car/ Daily Drive:
The car that this Manly man need to go with is the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500.

The Engine has a named called the “Predator” V8 Engine. 750 BHP is nothing short and the roar from within is on par with Bakugo’s SRT Hellcat.
Supercar:
I was having second thought of choosing this car. But whenever I think of Kirishima in a car, This car always pops into my head

Lamborghini Adventador SV. This car Looked manly and menacing. Why I thought about this car, is that it associated it self with a bull in which Kirishima and this car can relate to. A loud V12 Engine roars loud and deep in a intimidating voice and its perfect.
Sero Hanta
Sport Car/ Daily Drive:
For Sero the car has to be traditional but still a good car nonetheless. So I pick A classic Porsche 911 turbo 1982.

It is a classic sports car, It is tunable which make the car run fast.
Supercar:
Ferrari 458 Italia

This car is a normal Aspirated V8 with a high rev engine. It creates something Revolutionary From something traditional.
Kaminari Denki
Sport Car/ Daily Drive:
It has to be the SUPRA!!!!!!

This car is definitely a meme, it fits with Kaminari Personality. Seeing them is like “WTH ARE YOU DOING?!” Because both Kaminari and the car would do something ridiculously stupid.
Supercar:
For the Supercar I Would say The Lexus LFA

Lexus is one of the Artistic Legacy of the JDM Cars. It is one of the legendary Supercar that ever existed. The Normal aspirated V10 Sounded like Pure Thunder striking down on the earth. Sound menacing and amazing. It fits for Kaminari Racing Persona (Or even his villain Persona).
Mashirao Ojiro
Sport Car/ Daily Drive:
Ojiro is a traditional Japanese person, So his car has to be totally Japanese. My pick have to be The S30 Fairlady Z.

To be exact the RB26 Swapped Fairlady Z from Sung Kang (Han’s Actor car from “Fast and Furious”) And that’s all I need to say about this car.
Supercar:
For the Supercar It has to be the last piece of The JDM Legend. It is The GTR R35 NISMO.
This car is perfect for Ojiro, They both are the Representative Character of Japan.
Tokoyami Fumikage
Sport Car/ Daily Drive:
Blackbird 370 z

For me it’s a no Brainer. This car was featured as the Replacement of Blackbird in wangan Midnight When they aren’t allowed to use the Porsche. The slick Headlight and the whole body look is the description of Tokoyami Dark Shadow
Supercar:
Mclaren MP4-12C

That Describes Tokoyami as a whole. One of the best car that ever created in history that changes the whole world. With the black fierce look, This car looks like a shark that flies on land.
Sato Rikido
Sport Car/ Daily Drive:

Sato is a muscular guy. So His sports car is definitely a Muscle Car. But It seems I have a trouble in finding it, It has to be a classic but not too old. In that reason I recommend Saleen s281 2000
It has that sporty look but still have the Muscle car Essence and history
Supercar:
For the Supercar It has to be The Corvette C8.R

This car is a new take to American cars. It is a Incredible move from the American automotive Industries.
Koda Koji
Sport Car/ Daily Drive:
For Koda He is definetly a good Boy so hew probably uses a 4-door car. For instance The Subaru WRX STI 2016.
It doesn't seems Menacing but it still can move around well and when it drives, it definetly drives well.
Supercar:
For the Supercar it is definetly a NSX-R 1992 Tuned with a Rocket Bunny Body Kit.

Koda is definitely a Honda city boi. From the name itself, I am 100% it fits with Koda. Back in the day if you want a Ferrari but you can’t afford one. You’ll buy an NSX.
Shoji Mezo
Sport Car/ Daily Drive:
For Shoji I think Ford’s Trophy truck.
A friend of mine said that Shoji, is the kind of guy who would drive a van for daily basis (So I guessed it has to be an American Car). But to me, Shoji is the Kind of guy that likes to get Dirt under his wheels. And I'm pretty sure Shoji is the kind of kid that doesn’t Mind flying in the car on daily basis.
Supercar:
For the Supercar I propose, Ford Gt.

It is well planted and the car is very wide. Fitting to describes Shoji’s ‘Arms’. Although it might not have similarities with his daily car, But this car is all I could think of.
Aoyama Yuga
Sport Car/ Daily Drive:
For the Daily Drive, it is obviously something Luxurious, Something High class Like Bentley GT 2019. The V8 Version.

It is a confiscated yet sporty look in a car, It looked like as if he stands out compares to the other Luxury Cars
Supercar:
For the Supercar, It has to be describe as “Noblesse oblige” And the Car that fits the most is Noble M600.

It is a Supercar with all the classic features. It is a RWD Manual Transmission Car, a twin turbocharged 4L V8. Packs 640 BHP 0-60 in 3.1 Second.
Mineta Minoru
Sport Car/ Daily Drive:
It’s the Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GTS
Basically, this car is the Japanese Equivalent To pimp rides. Even though This car is featured in The Fast and The Furious, It is just a now show car. Compared the old one, This version is a slower and much more difficult to Modify. But it is still a nice car and fun to drive with, and it is a popular car in the car culture.
Supercar:
For Mineta The Supercar might be really difficult. So in the end I just came up with the Villain version. (Inspired by ‘Nadaboodraws’ Villain Mineta on Instagram) I came up with this

It is the Audi R8, It is one of the best Affordable Supercar you can get in the world. It is 4wd But it is still an aggressive car with a mean Look.
Okay that’s all I can give for this part. For the next one will be the girls of class 1-A. If you have different opinion let me know, I would love to hear all of your thoughts and if you use my list you can go ahead and use it (But please do tell me, because hearing it will be my vindication and that would make me really happy). Anyway, thank you for reading until this far.

Logistics of a “Speed Run”
So, this is probably going to end up on my what if…? List eventually, so I think I’ll just do some vague outlining here.
Starting Premise: The original expedition members are the only ones who go on the expedition to fogbound Lake.
1st Time Gear Located: Mesprit’s
Dugtrio rationalizes his not being chosen as Wigglytuff and Chatot deciding he needs more quality time with his son, but Diglett is not yet at the level where he could handle a full expedition. He… might be right? At least partially? Like I said—I don’t think they would have separated the two long-term quite yet, but, in all honesty, Diglett does seem to be the more responsible of the pair at this moment. However, he also seemed to be leaning on his dad quite a bit during the actual expedition itself (looking to him for approval, for example) once they hit Base Camp, so it is also possible that his confidence is only because of his familiarity with the Guild and Treasure Town.
Whatever the case—Dugtrio decides to take this bonding opportunity to mentor his son on the complexities of the move Dig, and upon realizing/remembering that Laura also knows this move (or her expressing interest in learning it) decides to take her along, with Paula as a spotter. For some reason he decides the best place to do this is around the Northern Desert—likely as an intermediate sort of lesson, for how to deal with loose soil and cave-ins? Or something? Or, like, there just so happens to be a lot of jobs for that area, so he just decides once they finish them to start working on Dig lessons.
Croagunk remains behind to watch the guild and his Swap Cauldron.
The group ends up accidentally tunneling into Quicksand Cave and either decide to take the opportunity to explore, or have no other choice because the tunnels collapsed and they can’t get out otherwise. This is possibly Laura’s fault, if her feelings of déjà vu and familiarity for the place (which she did canonically feel there in canon, but to a somewhat lesser degree since she was comparing it to her experience at Foggy Forest—meaning that she would be feeling it even more here) distract her to the point of making some digging mistakes. The result either way is that they end up meeting Mesprit and seeing her Time Gear. She doesn’t really have good defenses like Uxie does—she can sort of project feelings of disinterest, fear to make others leave her alone, but only if she’s paying attention and considering that Laura is in the party, it might not work. So, they’re going to have to try and get through to her via words.
Team Rainbow may or may not reveal the whole “human” thing to Mesprit—unlike in canon where the stories about Uxie made them think he was directly involved in the amnesia, there isn’t really a correlation between Mesprit’s powers and Laura’s situation that they can tell, in addition to the fact that they are not alone here, and might feel awkward about bringing it up around Diglett and his dad.
Either way, Mesprit extracts a promise from them not to tell, and they go home. Croagunk remains oblivious.
2nd Time Gear located: Azelf’s
Probably at some point they’ll run into Grovyle—who has a little more freedom of movement since he hasn’t been identified yet. He may or may not go into the guild itself at some point to gather news, but at some point he and Laura will spend some time standing next to each other—or she just happens to be in his vicinity for some reason, like if he’s on the Beach muttering to himself and she overhears and wanders over to listen.
We already know he has somewhat of a habit of talking to himself—which probably stems from how quiet Laura was while travelling with him, so he would basically just soundboard off of her whenever they were planning/he felt it was relatively safe to talk (because he was a bit more socialized and had parents who would have encouraged him to talk/theorize/ask questions when the environment is safe. Not to mention he had a friend in Celebi before she was forced to relocate). But because he got in the habit, he sort of forgets at times that his partner isn’t actually around at the moment, resulting in him, well, talking to himself. And then when, unbeknownst to him, Laura is around… well, he would sort of sense the familiarity and just fall back into those habits even easier.
The result of this is that she catches him debating which Time Gear location to go after next (though he wouldn’t actually say that part out loud) and she picks up the name Crystal Cave before he finally catches on to what he’s doing and makes a hasty exit. The name sounds familiar/intriguing, though, so Laura suggests that Team Rainbow go there next if they can find some jobs on the board. Which they do, so they do.
In the course of their work and exploring, they stumble upon the Crystal Lake. They are extremely nervous/panicked/general freaking out about finding another Time Gear when that was in no way their intent, and Azelf is curious/amused enough by the spectacle that he comes and investigates. He can tell they are determined to keep things a secret, and probably heard about the situation from Mesprit, so he’s actually pretty chill about the whole thing, and they probably even chat a little bit before the duo leaves. Laura probably gives him a warning that there might be a Grovyle coming to sight see or something in the near future, since that’s where she got the idea from to explore the place. So she unintentionally gives him the warning to be on the lookout, even though they still think at this time that his travelling plans were innocuous.
3rd Time Gear located: Uxie’s
The guild finally returns, feeling a little bummed that their expedition was a failure—because, as I’ve said before, I think it is unlikely Uxie would have let the group (minus possibly Wigglytuff) see the lake if not for the hero and partner accidentally stalling for time and seeking unrelated information in the game, which would have endeared them to him more and made him more willing to risk it. Without them there—and without the partner finding the drought stone, since that may or may not have happened if they weren’t there (because, privately, I think the reason they found it in the first place was that everyone stampeding to explore accidentally unearthed it [and Uxie probably just goes and deposits it in a random place in the forest whenever it is successfully used and he has to resort to Groudon/memory wiping to drive them away] and then the partner just happened to look down at the right moment. But with fewer people in attendance, that part might not have happened).
Though, it is entirely possible (and likely) that Bidoof might have managed to find the stone if he got lost in the Forest Path loop one too many times, and then just decided to take it with him as a treasure, the way he did that random crystal in canon. And maybe they could successfully find the statue, but have to wait for Chatot or someone to decipher the footprint runes (because I get the feeling that’s an uncommon skill, but is one of the things the partner learned in preparation for fulfilling their dream), and then no one has any idea what the drought stone is. Possibly Bidoof doesn’t even pick it up until they’re leaving, and the group might not have had the cohesiveness they did in canon to all go and share their finds since Dugtrio wasn’t there to suggest the apprentices work as one. That left the group each holding a bunch of different puzzle pieces, but not being able to put them together.
Anyways, they return, life gets back to normal, Dusknoir shows up, yadda yadda. At some point Bidoof lets Laura look at the pretty rock he found, and she has a Dimensional Scream about its purpose (though she doesn’t yet know what her ability is called). This… probably gets shared with the guild at large? Especially if Dusknoir still happens to be hanging around when Bidoof is showing off? …Or if it happened the night they got back (before Dusknoir arrived), and then all the apprentices got excited and caught Chatot’s attention.
So, Wigglytuff decides that Bidoof, Paula, and Laura should go back there the next day to figure things out—since they’re the ones with the most pieces of the puzzle. And he probably lets them go alone, at that, so Bidoof can actually get another chance to fulfill his wish and actually teach his friends things. So they do, and find Uxie and his Time Gear. And probably also ask him about the memory thing (since I feel like Bidoof’s presence is less awkward as far as spilling that goes? He is kind of their teacher, and the one that they’re probably closest to, even if he doesn’t generally get to do as much for them as he’d hoped). More conversations ensue and promises of secrecy are made—as well as some vows to look into things since it is extremely weird that this duo keeps finding Time Gears when they aren’t even trying to do so—though Uxie is going to be vague about it with Bidoof’s presence, only mentioning that they’d made contact with his siblings without bringing up what they guard.
Uxie either gives them a random treasure or helps them come up with a cover story to tell everyone else—probably something like “it turns out that the legendary lake is just what happens when the fog “lifts.” Or, more “accurately,” what happens is all the fog and water vapor condense and absolutely drenches and waterlogs the forest. The groudon statue is, therefore, somewhat of a misdirection.
…Laura probably comes up with that explanation, purely because of how complex it is and how many logical leaps it requires. But they just let her have her fun with it, considering the personal disappointment she just went through.
Also—Grovyle’s timeline is a bit delayed from what it was in canon since he got a bit scared off by that brush with Laura and decided to lay low for a little bit. So he either shows up a day after they leave, or they happen to see him on their way back—but don’t pick up on the fact that he’s there to steal the Time Gear. Uxie does not think they told Grovyle about him both because of just how quickly he appeared after the trio left and because Azelf probably told him about Laura’s tourist warning.
Fallout:
There is awkwardness among the Dugtrio family, Bidoof, and Team Rainbow when the news breaks about the Limestone Cavern gear being missing, and then even more when Grovyle is finally revealed as the thief—especially since that particular revelation comes with Laura blurting out about how she saw the guy earlier, and how he was making travel plans—so now she feels guilty that she didn’t think to question him about it. …And then with that comes the revelation that the remaining Time Gears’ locations are already known. Which does make it a little easier to actually go and fortify them, since they don’t have to spend time searching.
The end result is probably that they catch Grovyle at whichever lake he targets next, and the whole “getting dragged into the future” thing happens a lot earlier, and without the massive injury and illness from the Crystal Lake fight that gets alluded to in Missing Scenes. This also means that the Town Meeting scene probably doesn’t happen, since Dusknoir doesn’t actually need to utilize all those resources. Though there would have to be a scene or something that happens afterwards with the guild, at least—and probably Officer Magnezone—where Dusknoir would have to explain why he should get custody of the criminal.
This… leads to some interesting possibilities as far as whether or not the whole “the hero and partner get dragged into the future” thing would even happen. Because at the very least Dusknoir would have to give a reason for why Laura would need to come with him, and depending on where they do all this planning, and whether or not Grovyle happens to be in earshot for this…
Well, I’m imagining a scene or something where Dusknoir “suggests” that Laura (and probably Paula) guard Grovyle while he goes and gets all the sableye ready to prepare for a return trip (because that way he can keep the two of them close together if he needs to quickly grab them and run). Laura probably would accidentally touch him at some point and set off a dimensional scream, which would reveal, if not everything about her own personal history, then at least some inconsistencies in Dusknoir’s story. So Grovyle’s innocence would probably get sorted out fairly quickly, and then the issue would become how to protect him and the Time Gears from Dusknoir, as well as how to find the Hidden Land. …Or that dimensional scream happens right before Dusknoir drags him to the future, so Laura is still reeling from that revelation when she and Paula get dragged there as well—which would endear Grovyle and his efforts to them very quickly, and they would be on board with his plans from the start.
In any case, they would have a lot more time to plan, bond, and search for the Hidden Land after that. Which means discussion of Laura’s past and history would become inevitable, and the whole “we will disappear” thing might get figured out. But I don’t see this particular “what if…?” scenario being one where Relatia actually gets called to fix things, simply because Laura wouldn’t have quite enough time here to figure all of that out.

WvW Skirmish Rewards Part 4: Rebalance Aftermath
Since ANet made some changes to the skirmish reward structire in the latest patch, I thought it was worth revisiting the topic and talk about my thoughts/experiences with it.
The short version is, it’s a lot better, and ended up very similar to the proposed rebalance I spoke of before! In fact, it was even better!
For reference, here are the first three posts on the topic: Part 1: The Rant | Part 2: The Math | Part 3: The Proposed Rebalance
Firstly, what did they change?
First, a couple of changes from the July 11th Release Notes.
World vs. World General
Outnumbered is now applied each scoring tick (every 5 minutes). Swapping to a map right before a tick will no longer grant an Outnumbered pip bonus. Instead, you must play on an Outnumbered map for an entire tick to earn the bonus.
Participation decay timers have been adjusted so that players must be more active to keep participation from decaying.
Then, a few more adjustments from the July 25th Release Notes:
World vs. World General
Made the following adjustments to participation grace times:
Defending caravans has been changed from 2 minutes to 5 minutes.
Hitting a player/objective with a siege weapon has been changed from 1 minute to 2 minutes.
Capturing a shrine has been changed from 2 minutes to 5 minutes.
Finally, these changes are from the August 8th Release Notes.
Reward Changes:
Being in first place with war score now grants 5 pips instead of 3.
Being in second place with war score now grants 4 pips instead of 2.
Being in third place with war score now grants 3 pips instead of 1.
WvW Skirmish Claim Tickets have been reduced in the last chest of each division but have been added to every chest.
WvW Stat-Swappable Armor:
The WvW ascended armor Triumphant Hero’s and Mistforged Triumphant Hero’s can now be upgraded into stat-swappable armor.
Commander War Razor now has a new Legendary Components tab that sells items needed to upgrade ascended WvW armor into stat-swappable armor.
Since this is an upgrade, the stat-swappable armor does not include a new unique skin but is instead the same skin as the ascended piece that was upgraded.
After having played it for a few weeks, here are my thoughts:
Outnumbered changes: The outnumbered change is really good. The outnumbered buff is calculated at the beginning of the tick, and if you stay for the whole tick you are guaranteed to get the bonus pips. There are no more frustrating times where the buff disappears at the last second because people were trying to abuse the system. And since it lasts for the entire tick, it means that if you end up on an outnumbered map you will max out the participation meter very quickly, usually within a tick or two. There’s still some sense of unknown as to whether a map is considered outnumbered or not before the tick, but once you have it it’s there for the whole tick.
Participation decay timers: These aren’t too bad. Even during off-peak times there’s usually some sort of objective to take and the decay timers are high enough for getting from place to place without worrying about it after the tweaks. The best part about this is that it actually shows how much is left on the decay now, thus if you’re ever in danger of decay you can quickly go make a pit-stop at a smaller objective like a sentry or shrine to buy yourself enough time to go to another objective.
First/second/third place pip changes: This was exactly what I was thinking for the rebalance post. The pips for each place went from 3/2/1 to 5/4/3.
Ticket changes: This is an amazing change. Firstly, the number of tickets possible to obtain in a week has gone from 175 tickets per week to 365 tickets per week. This is a bit more than double from the previous number of tickets. In my rebalance proposal I was thinking the number of pips needed should be halved. With the new system you would get 174 tickets after having obtained 775 pips, which is about half the pips (going all the way up to platinum minus the last tier). On top of that, you can continue to play and get as much as 365 tickets if you so choose. And another thing, there are now tickets in every partial tier instead of having to finish the entire tier to get it, which feels a lot better since you don’t need to keep playing just to finish an entire tier and get your tickets. This is beyond what I was asking for, so I’m very happy with it.
Legendary armor: It’s good that this is now an option for those who play WvW since that has the most frequent stat adjustment of the game modes. As far as skirmish tickets go, it requires 1095 additional tickets to upgrade each individual piece to legendary, so 6570 for a full set. I don’t have any plans of going for this for the time being since the skin isn’t unique for the legendary tier and it’s a lot of time investment required (and I’m putting all other legendaries on hold until I finish the raid legendary armor sets), but I’ll probably at least get the ascended pieces just in case I change my mind later on. It’s fine as a long term goal and those who want it can get their hands on it if they have the desire to do so. PvP also got similar treatment with their armor set.
Conclusion: After playing under this system for a few weeks, I’d need about 14 hours per week in order to complete the entire skirmish reward track. Getting half way takes about 7 hours, which is about the amount of time I’d be willing to dedicate to playing and it reaches the level of progression I desire from it, so it’s perfect for me and is essentially equivalent to the time needed in PvP for similar rewards.

Custom Card Competition wk 16: Colored Equipment
(This is a post about a private Card Brewing competition. Entries were not open to the public)
Welcome one, welcome all to this new week of Custom Card Challenge! This week our prompt was to make a colorful armory~~
“This week we shall be doing equipment! But not just any equipment, colored equipment~~ Some examples of this is [Godsend], [Mage Slayer], and even [Unscythe, Killer of Kings] if you want to go crazy on us 😉”
Also, I was promised a 5C sword, so you better give it to me or heads will roll >:c
Starting off the week we have...
[Gonti]. It’s Gonti again. I can’t say it’s not interesting with the menace and with combat [synergies], but it’s Gonti again. Yes, we all love Gonti and the effect is fun, but it’s [Gonti] again x3
Anyway, the effect is [Thief of Sanity]/[Nightveil Specter] for any creature. Closer to Nightveil but with the mana fixing but minus playing lands. Which means sometimes this thing doesn’t really do a lot, or anything if you’re unlucky. I would’ve preferred that it was either Thief of Sanity or that it’d allow you to play lands, but some people don’t think playing lands are fun smh.
8/10, Just a good on flavor black equipment. Not much to say. [Gontiiiiiiiii]
So, this is a legendary version of [Scythe of the Wretched], it’s even a Scythe! :D But, what does this do differently from it? Well for one it actually has deathtouch and doesn’t force you to reequip it on someone you might not want it on.
So, what makes this the Sultai weapon of choice? The green would be for reach and black would be for deathtouch and maybe the resurrection. But what is blue in this card? Sadly, that’s the miss in this card, the challenge was to make colored equipment so you want to capture the color identity in the weapon.
I would suggest swapping out the U for its other control friend, W. With white you could argue that both the caring about legendaries (aristocratic fuqs >:c) and the resurrection part are on flavor for the color. And if you’d want to make this equipment really bonkers, you’d make it give vigilance as well. Then you probably have to make the equipment cost higher, since we probably all agree that only having mana symbols in the casting cost is beautiful.
7/10 Good first entry friendo ^^ And thanks for the new artist to follow :P
Next up we have a new little blade from Kamigawa, a blade that takes after the [Myojin of Night's Reach] itself!
Just like a blade from the legendary spirit should, it makes people discard, and discard haaaaard. A [Wit’s End] on a stick! How is that balanced when Wit’s End costs 7 to cast? A handful of reasons actually, one is that this costs a total of 8 mana, 6 of which must be black. The cost is separated into two bits, so you can pay half of it at one point and the other at another, that’s the strange thing with equipment. It costs more but they’re still cheaper since you can curve. Oh yeah and the second reason why this is balanced, it has to smack someone in the face.
With the deathtouch on the blade it makes it a bit more tempting to let it through. But people will just [chump block] at this point, unless they have so few cards in hand that they don’t care about discarding. Same problem Wit’s End faces actually.
So, it’s clearly not busted even though its ability appears so ridiculously strong, that’s amazing design right there. Sadly, I can’t really judge it on the lore all too much, I know this was made because the creator loves the Kamigawa lore but I simply haven’t read it. Sorry.
Oh yeah, pet peeve, this equipment doesn’t give stats, but maybe that’s for the best as it gives deathtouch and you want it for the effect. So… ignore my pet peeve?
Funnily this was the only card with color requirement to equip. Also the reason how this can be balanced :P
9/10, You could technically nut this at T4 with unblockable. Can you figure it out?
Next to the chopping block~~
Cardsmith? DISQUALIFIED! THOSE CARDS LOOK BAD D:< Rawr, rawr, rawr! Rabble, rabble! >:c
Cough. But if we would look past the exterior and try to see the card on the inside… Not that we would. Maybe it is, kind of nice? Let’s see here, creating things when hurt… Yes, that’s definitely a green thing with cards like [BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE] nest. Little things that deal damage, yes that’s red. Vigilance? That has to be wh- No wait, that’s a green’s secondary, and it synergizes with the rest of the weapon.
Okay, we have an interesting unique card that’s not busted with a good cost and fits its colors… Maybe the infinite is overpowered? >:D
The most efficient so you need the least amount of cards. [Darksteel Myr] + [Goblin Bombarment] + Well… this card… That’s a total of 9 mana plus 2 for equipping and you need to hurt the Darksteel the first time somehow as well. Okay, honestly that doesn’t sound anywhere near as effective/degenerate as [Storm] or [Hollowed One]. I encourage you all to click those links.
So… The card isn’t broken and the one way you would break it has [counter] [play] and is really slow.
What?! I can’t just judge the card on how the text formating looks?! The Cardsmith card isn’t just good, it’s great! How could this be?!
The only thing I can criticize is that the rose is a 0/2 instead of 0/1. I don’t think the rose should ever survive being [pinged] without buffs. The legendary clause makes it so you (sadly) can’t stack its effect, otherwise you’d have literally infinite chump blockers as with two blades one block creates two Roses. The equipping to Roses and always having a blocker might be enough reason to increase the equipment cost, but equipping costs 2 mana and is sorcery speed luckily, so the enemy can just play around it by having more creatures or killing the token before it equips. Unless they have no interaction, in which case you kind of deserve being blocked by a single Sword wielding Rose forever.
Also… Since the Rose token DOESN’T have defender…
<u<
I had to commission [Azura] to draw this. Too worth it.
There’s nothing I can give this card but the big W in for this challenge. Congratulations :D
10/10, Rose with a sword.
(I noticed that it didn’t say creature token, check for such things next time.)
Congratulations to The Wandering Nightstalker for bringing us a Rose wielding a sword! (That phrase made me and Azura laugh so much)
But before I thank you all for entering and wishing you good luck we have three Ineligible entries to judge and stare angrily at. So let’s greet these three lovely cards. Always fun to see the person who made the prompt join ^^
Starting off, the Vampires are starting a cult! Again!
Hey, DrKungFu. Tell your friend to just join the damn discord. This is 10/10 (9.5 rounded up to 10. Maybe I should start showing the half points as not rounded up…)
Yes, it’s a bit too strong, but it’s on flavor, on color, and just a damn fun card.
Also, flavor text. I love flavor text
Weak actual equipment with a reward if you complete its objective. Just how it should be when making these sort of flip cards. Maybe the objective should be slightly harder or the casting slightly higher (I’d say no because 2 symbols are beautiful), but hot damn this is a good card.
10/10, I want the against the odds where you have smol dudes to sac and big creatures to reanimate.
We will never ever beat this card.
Only complaint is that the stick is hard to see, if that even is a complaint.
20/16, trample at least. Better than 30 Emrakuls.
(I forgot that this last card was an IE, so they got a full on write up. Incase you wonder why this will be long.)
Oh my lordie, this was the first submission of this week and my first thought was “This will be a good week.” Needless to say, I was right. Flash with instant equip? Fuck yeah that’s some unique and interesting design, just what I wanted. I mean once I did some more research, I found out that [Grifter’s Blade] exists. But did anyone of you honestly know that it existed?
So, we know that I like the first two lines here and they’re really fitting for the colors you chose. Yeah, I know white isn’t supposed to be known for flash, but we’re all from a D&T lover’s discord. White flashing is nice. So, what do I think about the actual effects of the equipment? First strike and tapping a dude is nice and once again spot on for the color pairing you have. But indestructible? This makes the card a better version of [Indestructibility]. That saddens me as power creep isn’t really my forte. I really wish you chose something like Vigilance instead, that would even go nicely with the tap ability and annoy non-UW players in limited, and isn’t that what magic is all about?
Oh yeah, pet peeve, this equipment doesn’t give stats, but maybe that’s for the best as it has flash and first strike. So… ignore my pet peeve?
8/10, close, but indestructible cigar.
Thank you all for competing ^^ Hope you’ll have a wonderful week. Before I will take my leave, we shall travel to Sparta for our next prompt!
”Madness! Make an interesting madness card!”
A simple little prompt that reminds at least me about Kate’s first prompt :P Some examples of madess cards are [Basking Rootvalla], [Ichor Slick], [Welcome to the Fold] :^), and [Basking Rootvalla]. Oh and I’d count [Falkenrath Gorger] if you’re curious.
Also, no 5 color weapon :( [Hopefully this will do] <3

Here’s A Sneak Peek At The Best Beauty Launches To Hit CVS In 2017
SAVE ON WEDDING & PROM DRESSES at http://ift.tt/23SccX9 Where Smart Shoppers Shop!
The last week of the year offers a tricky paradox. On one hand, our bank accounts ride dangerously low after weeks of holiday shopping and general overconsumption. On the other, it’s hard not to set our our sights on a fresh beauty routine that will have us winning our New Year’s resolutions (like taking better care of our skin and DIYing our manis) — and requiring a few new products.
Thankfully, all can be had at drugstore prices. We combed CVS’ upcoming offerings to find the best new beauty gear to hit stores January and February 2017. Among the finds we’re most excited to try: a lip scrub to counter the kind of chapped lip struggle recently suffered by Kat Von D, an eyeshadow palette that combines two of our favorite trends (nudes and sparkle), the cleansing wipes that celebrity facialist Shani Darden told us she swears by, and a vitamin-rich moisturizing cream that’s nearly 100% natural. Ahead, find more than 45 upcoming releases that clock in at $40 or less.
If these launches are any indication, 2017 is going to be a gorgeous year.
This collagen-infused formula contains a wavy applicator to plump lashes with major volume.
Maybelline Colossal Big Shot Mascara, $8.49, available at CVS.
This long-lasting topcoat gives polish the shine of a gel mani, minus the curing time, LED lights, and brutal removal process.
Essie Gel Couture Ballet Nudes Top Coat, $11.50, available at CVS.
This 5-free gel polish comes in 36 shades and is part of a three-step system that mimics the hard-as-nails in-salon treatment at home.
Beauty 360 No-Light Gel Polish, $5, available at CVS.
We often wonder why more self tanners aren’t formulated with SPF. This one, which comes in three shades, is boosted by SPF 20.
Almay Healthy Glow Makeup + Gradual Self Tan, $15, available at CVS.
As if four soft-focus highlighting powders weren’t enough, this compact is equipped with secret compartments under the pans, too.
E.L.F. Illuminating Palette, $6, available at CVS.
This sheer wash of healthy pink tints nails and strengthens them at the same time.
Essie Treat Love and Color in Sheers to You, $10, available at CVS.
We scored a sneak peek at this styling cream and were floored by how bouncy and light it kept our curls — without ever coming close to a diffuser.
Garnier Fructis Style Smooth Air Dry Anti-Frizz Cream, $4.29, available at CVS.
When it comes to pimple treatments, La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo is a beauty-editor favorite. The brand is now serving that treatment’s star pore-purging ingredient, LHA, in these handy cleansing wipes.
La Roche-Posay Effaclar Cleansing Wipes, $10, available at CVS.
Antimicrobial snail mucin extract — yeah — is the star ingredient of this serum, which sounds yucky, but really does enhance skin elasticity.
Organic Doctor Organic Snail Gel Healthy-Aging Facial Serum, $30, available at CVS.
Pumice, oatmeal, and zinc help deep clean pores and minimize shine.
Formula 10.0.6 One Smooth Operator Pore Clearing Face Scrub, $7, available at CVS.
High-performance ingredients shouldn’t be reserved for the face only. This body gel taps snail mucin extract — there it is again — to moisturize and soothe skin from head to toe.
Organic Doctor Organic Snail Gel Face & Body, $30, available at CVS.
Orange, sea salt, and bergamot cleanse skin, brighten the complexion, and even ruddy patches.
Formula 10.0.6 Deep Down Detox Ultra-Cleansing Mud Mask, $7, available at CVS.
Whether your chapped lips come from biting cold or trying on too many lipsticks, this gently smoothing and conditioning scrub has your back. Er, mouth.
Milani Keep It Sweet Sugar Lip Scrub, $10, available at CVS.
Call it lipstick for dummies: The chubby stick makes drawing on perfect matte lips a cinch. Its twist-up design means you don’t have to go rummaging for a sharpener.
Makeup Academy Matte Lip Crayon in Natural, $7, available at CVS.
This wash of color also contains nourishing cocoa butter and peptides; a vanilla-mint scent makes it incredibly appealing to apply.
Mineral Fusion Flicker Sheer Moisture Lip Tint, $10, available at CVS.
A lightweight cleanser formulated to help skin retain moisture, even after the gel has been rinsed away.
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Cleansing Gel, $9, available at CVS.
This featherlight serum for dry skin is 97.5% natural and does not contain synthetic fragrances or dyes, making a smart go-to for finicky complexions.
SkinFix Moisture Boost Serum, $30, available at CVS.
A whopping half of this potent formula — dispensed via a precise dropper tube — is hyaluronic acid, the famed humectant that helps skin retain moisture.
NIP+FAB Dragon’s Blood Hyaluronic Shot, $24.95, available at CVS.
The betacarotenes and vitamins C, D, E, and K in the alfalfa seed extract in this silky eye cream reduce puffiness and fade inky dark circles.
SkinFix Brightening Eye Cream, $25, available at CVS.
There are simply not enough lip tints armed with SPF. This one, spiked with SPF 20, comes in five fruity shades.
Revlon Kiss Balm, $5, available at CVS.
We expected to find a thick lotion when we pumped this SPF-powered moisturizer from the bottle. Instead, we got a dollop of an ultralight, fast-absorbing elixir chock-full of skin nurturers like hyaluronic acid, goji berry, vitamins C and E, and pomegranate.
Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb The Antioxidant Super Shield Daily Moisturizer SPF 30 Lotion, $17, available at CVS.
This collection of finely milled eyeshadows in matte, satin, and shimmer finishes gives pricier nude shadow pans a run for their money.
Wet n Wild Color Icon Au Natural 10 Pan Eyeshadow Palette in Bare Necessities, $7, available at CVS.
Because this earthy-smelling shampoo swaps silicones for olive-based smoothers, natural waves are rendered both shinier and less weighed-down.
Garnier Whole Blends Nourishing Shampoo in Legendary Olive, $4.49, available at CVS.
This range of matte lip colors has already earned a rabid fanbase among Reddit’s makeup geeks. This creamy pink is one of 13 that promise long wear without a parched pout.
Wet n Wild MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipstick in Berry Recognize, $5, available at CVS.
You’ll just have to take our word for it. Here’s a velvet-matte lip color with the coverage and color payoff of formulations priced three times steeper.
Milani Amore Matte Lip Crème in Obsession, $8, available at CVS.
This line of polishes was one of our favorite releases in 2016. It’s ergonomic, architectural bottle is easy to hold while painting. When paired with the topcoat we told you about earlier, you’ll get that same gel finish, sans irritating fuss.
Essie Gel Couture Ballet Nudes in Satin Slipper, $11.50, available at CVS.
And here it is again! Snail mucin extract has long been used in Korean skin-care products for its nutrient-rich components — like hyaluronic acid, glycoprotein enzymes, proteoglycans, and copper peptides. This serum taps the popular ingredient to quench the ultra-thin skin around the eyes.
Organic Doctor Organic Snail Gel Healthy-Aging Eye Serum, $30, available at CVS.
This mud mask counts strawberries, rosemary, and yarrow among its clarifying ingredients, meaning it’s great for purging dusky pores.
Formula 10.0.6 Pores Be Pure Skin-Clarifying Mud Mask, $7, available at CVS.
Mornings are a perpetual time-crunch and rarely do we have time to dry our legs, apply lotion, slather on sunless tanner, and then wait for it to fully absorb before getting dressed. This moisturizer can be applied to wet skin and is designed to blend quickly, so we can get out the door that much faster.
Jergens Natural Glow Wet Skin Moisturizer, $11, available at CVS.
Most oil-free foundations are made to mattify. This one, a water-gel hybrid, was created to hydrate, too.
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Tint, $17, available at CVS.
This pearly finish aims to fortify nails in one week’s time.
Essie Treat Love and Color in Treat Me Right, $10, available at CVS.
This hybrid SPF-primer is formulated to even the ruddy flush of those with sensitive skin or rosacea.
La Roche-Posay Anthelios 50 Anti-Aging Tinted Primer with Sunscreen, $40, available at CVS.
Spiked with argan oil, this uniquely sophisticated cotton-candy pink is the latest edition to the popular range.
Sally Hansen Color Therapy Nail Color in Primrose and Proper, $9, available at CVS.
This gel cleanser is packed with potent antioxidants that would also be suited in a steamy cup of tea: chamomile, passion fruit, and the OG, green tea.
Formula 10.0.6 Best Face Forward Daily Foaming Cleanser, $6, available at CVS.
This hydrating lippie delivers intense color payoff in an easy-to-apply elongated bullet.
Revlon Ultra HD Gel Lipcolor, $9, available at CVS.
When we saw her last aesthetician Shani Darden (who treats celebs like Jessica Alba) could not stop talking about these super-soft cleansing wipes, which are soaked with micellar water — and we’ve been waiting for them to drop ever since.
Garnier SkinActive Micellar All-in-1 Makeup Remover + Cleanser Towelettes, $7, available at CVS.
The ubiquitous nude palette gets the Midas touch, thanks to flecks of metallic gold pigments in each of the 12 shades.
Maybelline 24K Nudes Eyeshadow Palette, $12, available at CVS.
This mask is made to be peeled off — and take dead skin cells and excess sebum with it.
Formula 10.0.6 Get Your Glow On Skin-Brightening Peel Mask, $7, available at CVS.
Brittle and damaged nails will not only get a cover up thanks to this powdery lavender, they’ll also get strengthened with the lacquer’s collagen and camellia extract.
Essie Treat Love and Color in Lavender, $10, available at CVS.
Micellar water — the lazy girl’s godsend — just got a lot more affordable. And bonus, this version of the oil-infused liquor is fragrance-free.
Formula 10.0.6 Totally Clean Micellar Cleansing Water, $6, available at CVS.
This blurring beauty balm is made with antioxidant-rich botanicals that scrounge up free radicals.
Mineral Fusion Perfecting Beauty Balm, $28, available at CVS.
The conditioner pair to the shampoo we told you about earlier is especially creamy, though not at all heavy or greasy.
Garnier Whole Blends Nourishing Conditioner in Legendary Olive, $4.49, available at CVS.
Many folks with oily, acne-prone skin skip SPF, because many formulas feel too heavy or greasy on the face. This one absorbs oil just like your favorite mattifying moisturizer.
La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Clear Skin Dry Touch Sunscreen, $20, available at CVS.
This no-nonsense lip treatment delivers moisture, hyaluronic acid, and a healthy, cool-girl shine.
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Lip Treatment, $10, available at CVS.
Lipids and skin-repairing neuropeptides are among workhorse ingredients in this 97.5% natural moisturizer.
SkinFix Nourishing Cream, $25, available at CVS.
Imagine how much you’d pay for paraben-free frizz tamer with sustainably-sourced argan oil from Morocco. Now, look at the price of this new release — pretty impressive, right?
Garnier Fructis Style Smooth Blow Dry Anti-Frizz Cream, $4.29, available at CVS.
This affordable pinky-plum palette features the kind of on-trend rose-gold and burgundy shades that bring beauty bloggers all the Likes.
Wet n Wild Color Icon Au Natural 10 Pan Eyeshadow Palette in Nude Awakening, $7, available at CVS.
