Letterkenny Season 12 Thoughts

I know Letterkenny isn't as popular on here, but I need to talk about how disappointing this final season was to me.

Spoilers ahead

The biggest issue I had was that there was not really any character progression. They had this theme of "being stuck" in Letterkenny, and showed all the folks that were considering moving on or changing, but they all reverted back to their original selves by the end of the season. Dary wants to feel respected, Katy wants to have more excitement like she found in Mexico, Dan wants to be more Mennonite (?), and Wayne is supposed to feel like the odd man out for not wanting any change. Then, at the end of the season, he's essentially proven right, as everyone else reverts.

As a result, it also feel like there is very little plot progression. The season centers on Dary being with the degens, but the whole point of that was that they were validating Dary's feelings like he felt his friends weren't. So then he comes back to Letterkenny proper after 5 episodese, but did anything actually change for him? Even the hockey players saying they respected them felt like it was directed more toward Wayne than Dary.

And then there's the whole Rosie issue. Rosie is a fantastic character, and the writers have done a lot of work to show how well she and Wayne work together, but then kind of destroy all of that by having her question Wayne's need to be the toughest guy in Letterkenny. It's the first time she's brought it up in the show and is explicitly called out as the issue that led to Wayne and Angie breaking up pre-season 1. Then she leaves, and they have the most confusing break-up over the phone (so confusing I didn't realize it was even a break-up at first).

My last major issue is that I didn't feel as though the season did a very good job at a retrospective. Sure, they had those moments at Snooters and then the photos as the rave in the last episode, but it felt more like a "hey, do you remember when we did this wild thing?" rather than a "wow, look how far we've come and how much we've changed." Again, it was narratively unsatisfying.

All in all, I really hope that the rumored movie does come out and gives us a little bit more of what we wanted.

I didn’t want Wayne to leave Letterkenny but I also didn’t want him to not end up with Rosie.

New Girl was just Katie 2.0 with even less personality.

I really enjoyed the final season of Letterkenny but... I have... no idea why they did Wayne and Rosie like that? Like, zero other complaints. But. Why. She could have rescued dogs there. :')

Why put the blonde next to him? She. Has the exact same conflict happening with her own boyfriend? She does not want to live in Letterkenny? And he and Rosie split because of that? And also. She's. In a relationship. I genuinely don't understand.

Thank god the last episode is like this because I was stressed over the Dary plot most of the season

The hockey player n skids being enthralled by Glenns "flamer" stories and Roald having to be reeled from his horniness was almost as funny as the Australian and New Zealand cousints at each other's throats

I rlly hope Shawny sticks around as Gailers new boytoy but im not holding my breath

Rosie: as much as i love Rosie/Wayne, i feel like they did her right. Rosie likes staying home to read, but she fuckin’ loves rescuing dogs more. she’s a great gal. she’s the only one of the hicks who isn’t ‘stuck’; she knows exactly what she wants and she’s making it happen. she wants Wayne to come with her, but from the delicate way she went about it, she already knows his answer, and she’s not surprised when he finally catches up and twigs.

good for her for going after what she wants and making it happen.
