Details from the new CR animated intro (SPOILERS AHOY)
HERE BE SPOILERS
YOU KNOW THE DRILL
LOREM IPSUM
---
So, from the beginning of the new intro!
Matt creating the terrain (the Key, what looks like Ludinus' tower in Molaesmyr) and the appearance of Liliana, Ludinus, Ira Wendigoth, Captain Xandis, and Otohan Thull before the shot pans out to the Feywild Arch...
Nothing specific in Fearne's intro though it might represent her passing through the Arch into Exandria
Orym's shows Derrig sitting under the cherry tree while Will is beside Orym, moving through the Zephaer'atam - Will and Orym are using identical swords (barring length)
Imogen's shows Bertrand, the Lumas twins, and Lord Eshteross fading into the storm before she turns, runs, and plummets into...
Ashton falling from the window of Jiana Hexum's manor (we see him pre-injury but post-"hardening")
The group on the deck of the Silver Sun, we now see Ash with two different colour eyes -- as they fall overboard, Ashton grabs Laudna and flings her at Imogen, while FCG casts Fly (or something along those lines), and Fearne transforms into a bird and catches Ashton on her back (we don't see if FCG catches Orym or Chetney)
When the Hells are in the Feywild, Fearne has her pan flute, and we see her blackened left hand (a result of her grabbing Lolth's Crown during ExU)
During Laudna's intro, we get a brief flash of Delilah puppeting a Laudna doll the way Laudna is puppeting Pate in the shot
During FCG's shot, in the close-up on his red-tinted eyes, we see the Division lying massacred, with the buzzsaw and the grappling hook arm on the ground - as the shot pulls back, we see FCG swinging the buzzsaw at Ashton before we see the rest of the Hells surround him, Orym restraining him (with Seedling, slight continuity error there but appropriate), Chetney's unfinished mood wheel on the table behind them... and then Fearne pickpockets Ashton while everyone's focused on FCG
Chetney is carving a rocking horse, and we clearly see his RTA crown tattoo
In the group attack shot -- a wolfed-out Chet is using his Crimson Rite to claw through vines -- Fearne summons Mister who has his little firearm before she blowtorches everything -- Ashton's arm gets sliced and he rages -- FCG grapplehooks his way into combat and swings around, his Spiritual Weapon taking the shape of the Changebringer's coin -- Ashton apparently rolled Time because we see his dopplered selves appearing off him (it MIGHT just be a coincidence, but the blue-shift version looks like an uninjured stone Asthon, while the red-shift version looks like a HUMAN Ashton) before Ashton drops the hammer on a pair of Paragon's Call riding a crawler and blows it up -- Laudna's newer form of Dread appears with branches and flowers, while Imogen flings lightning around -- Orym goes toe to toe with several of Otohan Thull's echoes (including him Air Striking some into nothingness) before he blocks the REAL Thull's attack
Thull knocks him back into Ashton and FCG, who catch him

The truth doesn’t hurt
Masterlist
Peter, after a realisation with his cousin, finally tells Erik the truth- and it’s a better reaction than he expected.
Warnings: none | cousin OC
Tumblr media
Peter stared down at his cousin’s son, the six year old babbling about his newest obsession while Lili cooked the trio dinner. James, like Peter, was growing up without a father- and just like Peter it wasn’t really by choice and for some reason that stung more than usual today. His heart ached for his cousins because he realised something… Peter at current had the choice to change that.
Erik Lensherr is his father. Magneto is his dad.
According to Liliana at least James’ father isn’t a major terrorist so points to her he guesses.
He blinks down at the kid who is now staring blankly at the TV, a long day at school finally catching up to him again it seems.
“Pietro, James. Dinner!” Lili called, that soft polish accent loud and clear as she did (the proud Eisenhardt accent Peter’s uncle- his mums brother and Lili’s dad- would say)
“Coming Mama.” James called back.
Peter zipped the two into the kitchen, James giggling like a madman as he did, settling them in for dinner.
“Thanks for watching him today Pete.” Lili said for what was probably the tenth time since she came home from work. “But… are you okay?”
“Yeah I’m okay why wouldn’t I be okay I’m perfectly fine.” He said at what many would say was a fast tempo (which he would then say it was Andante at most thank you).
“Because you haven’t said a word since James started talking about dinosaurs and you love those giant lizards Kyzun.”
“Ah.”
“Pete quiet today.” James interrupted, food being shovelled into his face at an alarming rate- where Lili definitely didn’t shoot him a scathing glare at that. Peter only shoots one back that says *after James goes to bed*.
And so he waits till then to ask for her opinion on his troubles.
“Just been thinking.” He admits and waits for the usual teasing jab they would share but she’s quiet, listening. “I have the chance to tell Erik he’s my father and I haven’t taken it yet.”
“Why is that?” Liliana asks with a frown.
“I don’t know… I’m scared?” He shrugs. “Either he’ll think I want to replace Nina or he’ll hate me because I’m.. well I’m not the best son in the world so…”
“I’ll rip him to shreds if he thinks that. Peter there isn’t anything wrong with you for one and for another you know it’s the right thing to tell him.” Lili pats his arm. “You said family is important to him yeah?”
Peter nods slowly.
“Then let him know he isn’t alone.”
“I know I should… but what if Erik is already gone when I get back to the mansion?”
“Then you make the bald man find him and you tell Erik everything. You make sure he doesn’t leave until you tell him.”
Peter stands, pushing down those nerves threatening to stop him for the thousandth time.
“I’ll tell him tonight.”
“Give me a call tomorrow about it yeah?”
“Yeah.”
Tumblr media
His palms were so fucking sweaty.
Like really fucking sweaty. Worse than Alex trying to drill Scott on the plasma beams and accidentally burning a few (a lot of) really expensive antiques and then Charles going on a rager about how fucking stupid this idea to train inside the house, away from the bunker, was while Kurt stared into your soul for ruining a perfectly good book case… no his brain was not trying to plan an escape route.
His knuckles hit the door before he knew it, three sharp knocks surprising even himself as he heard the door unlock and creak open.
“Peter.” Erik said as way of greeting.
“Hey Erik.” Peter said in kind. “Uh…”
“Do you need something?”
“No-yes… yes I need some help.” His shoulders dropped. “It’s really important and uh.. can I come in?”
Erik frowned in contemplation before moving to the side. Peter was never this… scared to look someone in the eye and Erik was half ready to call out for Charles should the boy do or say something worrying or dare he say stupid.
“How can I be of help?” Erik asked after some long seconds of silence. He was notably irritated which only made Peter more nervous, he felt sick even.
“I was babysitting my cousin’s kid and I got to thinking… he’s gonna grow up like me.” He started, easing into the plan he had haphazardly thrown together.
Erik’s irritated stare softened a little. Peter was sharing personal information, according to Charles Peter didn’t like to share that sort of thing unless it was something… fun.
“Like you?” The metalokinetic prodded.
“Without a father figure.” Peter gulped. “And like me it’s not really on purpose. Neither of our dads even know we exist but Lili… she wants James’ dad to know- she just doesn’t know how to find him and she fucking tried.”
“I do hope she can find him then. I imagine anyone would want to know if they had a child. I certainly would… family is important no matter the circumstances.” Erik sat on his bed, patting it down for Peter to join him.
“You would want to know?” The speedster said quietly. Erik only nodded. “I found my dad.”
Erik’s brows rose, a smile tugging at his lips.
“That’s excellent, no? Have you told him?”
“I haven’t, I’m just… I’m scared.”
And though Erik still wandered why Peter came to him, thought he could be of any help he placed a hand on the twenty-six year old’s shoulder and squeezed. “Why?”
“He’s a… powerful mutant… Because he lost his new family not that long ago. Because he scares a lot of people.”
“Does he scare you?”
“Not anymore.” Erik nodded again. “What would… how would you react if I came up to you and said hey… I’m your son and I’m twenty-six but you’re my dad!”
Erik frowned, not expecting that kind of question.
“Well I would not be disappointed. Perhaps miffed I did not know sooner and angry that I hadn’t been there for you because and know this Peter I would have raised you.”
Peter’s brown eyes widened, something shining by the corner of one that Erik suspected was a tear and his heart well… it aches for the man.
“Do I know your father?” Peter seemed to freeze at that before tentatively nodding. “Practice what you want to say, with me I mean.”
Why was Erik doing this for him? Peter was so confused and yet relieved all at once before snorting out a laugh. He nodded and turned to face him.
“Twenty-eight years ago you met my mother. Dated for a little under two years and after your break up and her move to America she found out she was pregnant with me and my twin sister… my mama is Polish you see so I actually have a traditional name- Pietro.” The slight crease in Erik’s brow told Peter that something had started to click. “She decided to americanise our names for school but anyway… her name was Ma..”
Peter gulped.
“Ma?” The former terrorist tried to joke, to make Peter feel better. “You’re doing well so far Peter, a strong start.”
“Her name was Magda Eisenhardt.“
Erik felt a twist in his chest, a lurch in his gut. He knew that name.
Peter’s mother is Polish… Peter’s real name is Pietro- a name he and his former partner had cooed over once they heard it. Magda… Magda Eisenhardt.
Peter’s silence seemed to be louder than any other sound, than when Banshee would scream or when any explosions echoed.
“But… Maximoff?”
“Mama remarried, we took his name and now I have a little sister.” Peter said quickly. “Her name is Anya but my twin is Wendy which is actually-”
“Wanda?” Erik pulled Peter in for a tight hug. “Like Magda’s mother’s name.”
“Yeah.” Peter relaxed into his father’s hold.
“Thank you for telling me. I wish… I wish you had told me sooner I would have-”
“Stayed?” Peter quipped.
“Yes. I would have tried to stay.”
“Don’t force yourself to stay.”
“I have a son… a daughter.” Erik pulled back, looking at Peter- Pietro… he looks like Magda, he looks like him. “I still have family.”
“Yeah. Yeah you do.”
After moments passed and both men had taken deep breaths Erik asked quietly.
“Your cousin? Is she Aleksey’s daughter or through your step father’s sibling?”
“Uncle Aleksey is still alive and kicking but yeah Liliana is his. He’s still a great brother for ma…”
“And she has a son?”
“James.” Peter smiles brightly. “A six year old with more energy than me some days.”
“I think.” Erik starts. “If you’d allow it I’d like to get to know you, your sister- my daughter- and your family if they would too.”
Peter smiles. He hadn’t expected the immediate warmth, the utter joy on his fathers face the fact that Erik didn’t think he was trying to replace Nina.
Lili was so going to make fun of them both for crying on each others shoulders.
Worth it!

Knock! Knock!"

8:00 Am
Dear Diary,
"I couldn't sleep last night. The screams are getting louder each passing day.I could hear her agony and dad's drilling machine from the basement last night. At breakfast I had some suspicious looking meat and soup. Then I went to my room while dad went back to the basement with lots of bleach. Everyday is like a living nightmare. I can't take it anymore. The no. of missing cases of women in our neighborhood is increasing day by day and so is the dead bodies in our backyard.Is it the guilt or fear which makes me see things, that aren't meant to be seen.Silhouette of those women in my room,the screams of the alive from our basement and sinister acts of my dad are the reason for my insomniac nights.My dad used to work at mortuary before my mother's passing. He used to be a nice guy who cared about his wife and children. He lost it the day when he found out his wife was cheating on him with his brother. After that day my mom never came back home. Her body was found in a reserved forest area which is far away from our home town. I used have little brother and he too was found dead in same forest but three days after my mother's death. In both cases the bodies were brutally harmed, hardly recognisable. Police reported the case as animal attack but I don't think it was an animal attack. I heard some knocks at the door, is it dad? I gotta go."

whatever it takes flashback self para
Growing up as a Cannon would never be easy, and Lionel Cannon was there to make sure of it. He was an intimidating man, a baron around town, and well known throughout the region for his height, his booming voice, and his temper. He had singlehandedly led the Blue Ridgidian army against the what was going to be the Second Wave - it was renamed the Crushing instead given how deftly Lionel had handled the situation.
“Again,” Lionel barked, the sound echoing across the glen. Montgomery was exhausted. He had run this drill already to collapse, but it was a birthday tradition: you run the gauntlet as many times as you are years old. And this meant that Monty had to run it twice more to complete seventeen runs.
The trial was grueling. It consisted of running laps, body weight workouts, an upstream swim,  and a tree-sit until your legs gave out (assuming it was long enough to satisfy Lionel) - plus more. Monty usually looked forward to these feats of athletic ability. It was how he proved to his father that all the work they did together was worth it. The reward for completing the gauntlet was a sparring match with Lionel himself, and Montgomery had yet to best his father. While Montgomery usually wrote it off as his father having a huge advantage (not having gone through rigorous exercise just before), Lionel insisted that it was because Monty hadn’t trained enough. One day, Monty would win.
There was only one caveat - only Montgomery was forced to do these each year. None of the other children were subject to the annual ritual. In some ways, though, Montgomery understood. Though Liliana was wild and athletic, it wasn’t the kind of work she would be expected to do. And as for Augustus, well... he wouldn’t survive even one round of the trial - much less the number he would be required to do. Even if by some fluke or miracle Auggie was able to complete the trial, there was simply no chance in heaven, hell, or the five districts that he would win against Lionel. So in a way, it was merciful not to put Augustus through the sheer embarrassment he would face.
This year felt different, though. Seventeen. This was the first year Monty was eligible for military promotion. He had been serving since enlisting at age fifteen - and truly since twelve or so, when he would run messages for officers. But with two years of military college under his belt, he could be given his first elevated rank.
There was something about this year that felt at a higher pressure. Usually completing the birthday ritual and then losing to his father felt like a completion, like a victory in its own right. But what if... what if Monty didn’t get that title? What if next year it was this and nothing else? The very thought of being so useless threatened his concentration as he dove into the river for the sixteenth time today.
Normally the cold water would snap him into concentration, but this time it only focused his mind around the future. He could see the look on Lionel’s face if he came home without a title. He could feel the ice in his father’s eyes, the disappointment palpable. It hadn’t even come to pass yet, but Monty could feel the weight of expectation sitting in his stomach. He felt it pull him down. It kept his head under the water and forced his hands to stop pulling. It almost felt like he was drowning. All he could see was the deep, dark eyes of his father - full of rage and hurt. This couldn’t be his future. It couldn’t be.
Monty’s next memory was his father, screaming in his face. “Monty?! Montgomery!!” It was pained. It was... well that couldn’t be. There wasn’t an ounce of “fear” in Lionel Cannon, so there was no way there was fear in his voice. Something hard and powerful thudded into the middle of Montgomery’s chest.
All he could taste was water. The muddy, caustic water of the creek. In an instant, Monty felt like his insides were on fire as he vomited water onto the banks. He would never be able to pinpoint how long he was there, rewatering the glen floor with the contents of his stomach.
When he had finished, his father seized him, crushing his body in his arms. Monty’s impulse was to strike out, to fight back, but his limbs wouldn’t obey his brain. They stayed limp at his side, completely devoid of energy, as Lionel - as he came to realize - hugged him. It was the first time Montgomery could remember his father doing anything resembling this.
“Montgomery Zachariah Cannon. You will never do something like that again, you understand me?” Lionel held him out at arms length to look him in the eyes. Monty had trouble focusing, but managed the energy to nod. He had no clue what he had done to elicit this response from his father, but he knew he would do anything to make his father proud. And if that meant agreeing to never again swim in the river, then he would do it. Whatever it took.

dream eater & horn drill <3
𝒕𝒆𝒄𝒉𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝒎𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒅𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒑𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒒𝒖𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 dream eater — does your muse have any recurring dreams/nightmares?
tw: blood, graphic descriptions of violence, gore, body horror, maybe?
The dream always begins the same way.
The door to her mami's apartment looms ahead of her, and there is a heaving feeling on her gut. She is late, and something is wrong. She doesn't want to open the door, knows something terrible awaits her. A small, conscious, part of her brain is screaming for her to run, to do something.
She can't move.
She is rooted on the spot, watching the comforting wood of the door bleed red. There is a moist sticky sound coming from behind the door, the sound of something wet and bloody slapping against tile. Underneath it, there is something wrong. Jagged gasps, mutters of pains, her name spit between breaths as someone begs, and beneath that? The slick, steady sound of a knife plunging into someone over and over and over and over and over and over again.
She can't move.
She is so afraid.
Tumblr media
Then she hears her mother scream.
Suddenly, the fear chaining her in place is gone and she wastes no time. She bursts through the bloody door, anger coursing through her veins.
She is too late.
For a moment, she ignores the shadows, the masked men surrounding her mother.
Liliana is not dead yet, but the moment Cloe lies her eyes on her, she knows she will be. The light is fading from her eyes too quickly for her to stop. There is no hope, she knows, and something inside her breaks.
It's a dream, a distant part of her knows, so the cloaked masked men don't attack her as she walks closer to her dying mami. They stand there, looming. More of an omen than a reality, a reminder that she is not safe and never will be.
Tumblr media
The world is silent, as if it was waiting in baited breath as she kneels next to her mami. Trembling hands cradle a bleeding would-be corpse, warm hands cupping cooling cheeks as Cloe leans down to press her forehead against her mothers.
There are noises, Liliana's last attempts at words, but nothing leaves her lips. Her mami's vocal cords are shredded from the screaming, she can't say anything. There is no reassurances in Liliana's dying moments. Just the quiet sound of crying, covered by ragged dying breaths.
She never knows how long this part of her dream is. Never figures out how long it takes for her mother to die in her nightmares. It's an eternity contained within one night, a millennia of suffering suffered in a second. It's too much time and too little at the same time.
Tumblr media
No matter what she does, this part always ends up the same way.
Her mami dies painfully and slowly, sheer agony she didn't deserve but got nonetheless.
And with her death? A small part of Cloe follows Liliana to the Otherworld.
Tumblr media
What follows is a massacre, a reminder. Blood stains her hands, her rumpled suit splattered with blood and viscera as she tears through the men that took the only family she ever knew.
She wakes up with the ghost feeling of her mother's body on her arms.
horn drill — are there any personality traits that would stop your muse from pursuing a relationship with someone?
Close-mindedness (No, she isn't aware of the irony of this statement, but I am and I find it hilarious). Cloe is a woman full of ideals and dreams of changing the world. If her partner is not at least willing to listen to her opinion, she doesn't see things going anywhere. Outside of that, she is willing to put up with a lot, because she believes that people are inherently good and she is willing to give everyone a benefit of the doubt. Senseless cruelty would be another, but the emphasis is on senseless. She might be kind, and it's hard to remember, but Cloe has killed people. She enjoyed killing them. Her morals are not all nice and shiny, no matter how much she tries to keep them so. She is willing to go very far for a reason, but if the cruelty is senseless? Well, what is the point of it anyways? Another way to describe senseless cruelty is for it to be directionless. She sees no point on being cruel to any person. If she has to be cruel, she prefers if said cruelty has a point. The same applies to someone she might be pursuing a relationship with.

@thejaxon-reed
Continued from here
---
“Go on then,” he grinned, enjoying how Jaxon was playing into this almost as much as Mike was, “we’re all grown ups here, tell us,” he leaned in closer, letting his lips trail lightly up Jax’s neck, tongue stretching out to toy at the bottom of his ear lobe, “what ideas are you getting?” He stopped, letting his next words flow out as a whisper, “don’t spare any details mate, we wanna know everything.”
This was wrong, a part of Mike’s mind knew it every time something like this happened. The first time with Jax. Harley. Dracias. And now Jax again. Jax was the constant, a wavelength shared between them it seemed, at least for the Mad Wolf. Wolves had to stick together, regardless of packs. Fuck Liliana. Fuck Oberyn. Tonight the Mad Wolf was in charge, and when he was in charge he did what he wanted. Mike could deal with the fall out tomorrow.
Watching the others eyes shift and glow red was new, not something Mike had seen before, and there was the moment of hesitation, the Delta in him taking a few seconds to show his respect to the Alpha, as he should, before the grinned crept back. Respect was done now. It was time to be very disrespectful. “Then fuck us Jax. What’s stopping you?” He was pulled in closer, held tightly around his waist, and Mike reacted, claws piercing through Jax’s shirt and digging into his chest. Not intended to hurt, but enough to show that this was intended to be rough. “We don’t have to tell anyone. Mikey knows the drill, so he won’t say anything either.” His fingers curled, pulling on the Alpha’s shirt, watching it tear around his fingers. He was being slow now, knowing one tug and the shirt would be off. He hoped it wasn’t a favourite.
“Well?” His face moved in close, lips barely a breath apart, “you game, Alpha? Or are we making all the decisions tonight?”

Moral Support: Full Commentary
Welcome to the full card commentary! This card contest was mechanically fairly prescriptive in some major ways, so I was pretty pleased to see such a wide range of approaches. Thanks so much for all of your submissions! They were a blast to read, and I hope you’ll check out what everybody produced this week. - @teaxch
Tumblr media
@abzanhero - The Core-Piercer
This card combines several things that Dwarf cards have cared about in the past in a fairly elegant way. On a creature, an ability that wants you to deal damage to creatures and trample have mild tension, but it’s less of an issue on an equipment, which can be used on both offense and defense. I’m not sure if I get the flavor of specifically getting treasure when a creature is damaged, but the “big drill” making treasure is sensible enough.
Tumblr media
@alextfish - Uprising of the Downtrodden
I went back and forth on this card. Specifically, Revolt cards tend to have the trait that they make sense when played after combat damage has been dealt, as that’s the most common time that permanents leave play in many formats. A tribal Trumpet Blast isn’t generally useful played after combat damage. The card is pretty clever, however, in that it gives the power boost a function when played with Revolt. The design of the card is also clever in that the card may legitimately be worth running in a deck that lacks Rebel tribal in limited, as it’s still a Lightning Strike (at least for creatures and planeswalkers)  that leaves a token behind with Revolt, which is solid.
There’s no special synergy with the existing Rebel mechanic other than that Rebels are good at getting multiple creatures onto the board, but the Rebel mechanic has some play issues, so it’s reasonable that they’d probably go in another direction if they brought the type back.
Tumblr media
@bread-into-toast - Spray of Strikes
I love this as a Hydra-themed card design. Hydra’s don’t have a long history of fighting multiple things, but it makes a lot of sense as a place for the creature type to go.
While it’s very slightly different, I suspect that this may be templated as “Target creature you control deals damage equal to its power to each of X target creatures your opponents control. Each of those creatures deals damage equal to its power to that creature,” or something along those lines. It’s a lot clunkier, but it avoids confusion about whether your creature can die before all of the fights happen. (It cannot; even if it takes damage greater than or equal to its toughness, state-based actions will not be checked until the card resolves completely.)
Tumblr media
@chungus-supreme - Sea Shaper’s Cant
Permanent unmarked changes to land types aren’t unheard of, but they are uncommon; unless there’s a specific environment reason that this must be an instant, I feel like this could be implemented as an aura with Enchant Land, Flash, and an ETB ability that puts an Islandwalk counter on a Merfolk.
Tumblr media
@corporalotherbear - Threefold Sun’s Zenith
This card has a very clever Modern Horizons-style concept, tying the Threefold Sun to the Sun’s Zenith cycle. You have to invest a ton into this card before it starts to approach a good deal, but that fits in reasonably with the general go-big strategy that dinosaur decks typically have. I think that the decision to avoid tying the effects directly to the three-card Sun’s Avatar cycle makes sense; there’s not really an obvious way to scale the white one’s effect.
Tumblr media
@deg99 - Hurloon Hymn
The global enchantment that makes a single token on ETB isn’t a commonly used design tool - typically they just attach the enchantment effect to the creature directly (which also makes it easier to remove.) This is a reasonable application of the technology, in the vein of Liliana’s Mastery. I like the connections to both very old and more recent lore in the name and flavor text.
Tumblr media
@demimonde-semigoddess - Crash the Workshop
I’m assuming that, based on the implied Kaladesh setting, that this card is from an artifact-heavy set, which I think is pretty important to its design. In an environment without many targets, this is a moderately swingy (and potentially frustrating) sideboard card at best, and also potentially misleading - you don’t want to maindeck this card in a typical limited environment no matter how many Gremlins you have. Fortunately, that’s likely not a concern.
Tumblr media
@dimestoretajic - Auntie’s Blessing
I think this card is really interesting in that it uses a creature type restriction to focus less on something that the tribe is good at and more as a limitation based on what the tribe typically isn’t that great at. This aura is strongest when it’s on a large, evasive creature, and goblins are typically neither. That helps keep the snowball potential of this card in check. I do think that this card could be less color-intensive; triple red is a lot to ask when the card already has several hoops to jump through. (On the other hand, many Goblin decks historically have been mono-red; this is more of an issue if Goblins are also in another color, e.g., black, and for limited.)
Tumblr media
@gayagendaofficial - Phoenix Frenzy
Phoenixes have a little bit of history with instants and sorceries, including multi-format star Arclight Phoenix, so while this card only touches indirectly on Phoenixes’ most prominent gimmick, it still makes a degree of sense. This card becomes very interesting and complex if you have the ability to trigger it multiple times in a turn (the ease of doing so varies widely with the number of Phoenixes in the environment), because it allows you to cast the same card from your graveyard multiple times in a turn, including itself, provided you can supply multiple Phoenix triggers. Cards that let you cast instant and sorcery cards from your graveyard in some fashion typically include some clause that keeps them from being used more than once. The fairly major Phoenix-related limitation may be sufficient to make this unnecessary, but given that this card is in a set that has Flashback already, it could give the spells Flashback 0 instead of letting you cast them from exile, if that’s something you wanted to avoid.
Tumblr media
@ghoulcaclulator64 - Sylvan Funeral
This card is on the lower end of value if you’re not getting the tribal effect, although accepting a bit of card disadvantage to get your bomb back is something that could plausibly be worth it in limited. This card could probably be bumped up a whisker; Find/Finality is a rare, but Survivors’ Bond, which compares favorably to this card, is just a pretty good common.
Tumblr media
@gollumni - Bloodrage Strike
Commons are hard to pull off in the Fair in the best of times (well, except for weeks like the current week, where being common is required). They tend to not be as splashy or novel, and this week in particular lent itself to more complex designs. That said, I appreciated this common’s elegance enough that it only just missed the winner’s circle. An effect like this has never been done quite so simply or elegantly; there are a few cards that care about the type of the sacrificed creature, but in all cases it’s a component of a more complex card.
Tumblr media
@grornt - Howling Snowstorm
Yetis don’t have a strong existing mechanical identity, so this is as good as any. The Yeti bonus here is pretty tame, as this will generally be a card played later in the game (if not as a finisher entirely), but the discount is still good tempo. That this is a Cantrip is interesting as it encourages the use of the card to push through some damage mid-game, rather than only using it to close games out, which is the most common use of cards that tap all of your opponents’ creatures.
Currently, all printed Snow instants and sorceries care about snow mana or cards in some way, but not all Snow creatures or lands do, so that doesn’t seem to be a hard rule in general. (It appears that Kaldheim used the rule that only cards that care about Snow or produce mana are Snow, but other sets haven’t hewn to this.)
Tumblr media
@hiygamer - Mining Rig
The decision to tie the treasure production specifically to tapped Dwarves is really smart on this card. It not only makes a certain amount of flavor sense and keeps fresh dwarves from immediately adding to your treasure total (unless they have Haste or help), but it pushes the deck to generally be active, rather than just playing a bunch of dwarves and doing nothing with them and winning a few turns later off of a giant spell.
Tumblr media
@hypexion - Carrion’s Call
Magic has done a bit of bird-graveyard interaction before, generally with the flavor of carrion birds, so even though Birds’ primary mechanical identity is just that they fly, this feels reasonably connected to the tribe, especially as it exists in black. This card is a nice “zero or more” tribal card, which isn’t something the contest naturally lends itself too, and the overall flavor package is very tight.
Tumblr media
@i-am-the-one-who-wololoes - Plague Rite
While it’s common for triggered abilities to appear after static abilities, on this card that ends up burying the lede a bit; even in an environment very heavy on -1/-1 counters, the main selling point of this card is the third of the three abilities. That’s a fairly minor point, however. (The other abilities do combo with Everlasting Torment and things that grant persist, at least.)
Removing -1/-1 counters from your creatures (without moving them somewhere else) initially felt a little odd in black, but the overall package of the card sells the general idea of the counters being spread around. Additionally, black does have the little-used ability to remove arbitrary counters from permanents.
Tumblr media
@ishmael-urquhart - Angelic Restoration
As near as I can tell, white’s never gotten a simple sorcery that just brings back a creature with low mana value, so this is a good find. In some ways, I wish that the two options for this card were more parallel, rather than one bringing the creature back to the battlefield and one putting it into your hand, although I’m not sure if the card could cost three mana if it could bring back any Angel to the battlefield. Currently, the second of the two options is a bit overcosted, but it’s still something you’re realistically choose late game some of the time.
Tumblr media
@jsands84 - Bountiful Hive
This card very barely missed the Winners’ Circle cut. This is a new mechanical identity for insects, but it’s one that makes sense for insects in green and white, which is an especially appropriate color pair for social insects, like those printed on the card. (Also, Insects don’t have a terribly strong existing color identity.) This card could probably be a rare; the Lorwyn tribal reveal lands probably don’t have to be rares, but adding the extra ability might push it there.
Minor nitpick - I’m assuming that the last ability should read “tap an untapped insect...”
Tumblr media
@lesbian-verdeloth - Stand Against Tyranny
Not many people submitted Tribal cards, but this one certainly merits the type. It’s largely doing the same trick as Bound in Silence, a card that I personally consider the single best and most interesting deployment of the Tribal card type, but on a card that more directly supports the Rebel game plan. If anything, this may support the Rebel game plan a little too well; the mere threat of this card makes it hard to profitably interact with a Rebel deck’s board as long as a card that can search for a Rebel 3-drop is on the board.
Tumblr media
@loreholdlesbian - Lycanthropy//Form of the Alpha Wolf
This card has some good flavor, although it’s very complex. A “Form of the Dragon” card for being a Werewolf is really clever, and a DFC that uses the established werewolf mechanic is a great way to sell what’s going on.
I think the card may be a bit on the weak side. The turn you play it, it basically just gives you a 1/1 and halves your life total, which isn’t great for three mana. It generally won’t transform until the beginning of your opponent’s upkeep three turns after it was played, if you forgo playing anything on your next turn. While this is how all cards with the Werewolf mechanic work, generally the front side of a Werewolf card is at least a mediocre creature for its cost.
The back half of the card is also somewhat complex in terms of nesting ability dependencies. If you control a 3-power human creature when the card transforms, there’s a three-deep nesting of abilities determining your new life total. That’s not something alien to Magic, but it’s rare that it’s all on the same card.
Tumblr media
@maizenolo - Statue Garden
I’m legitimately not sure if the game rules can recognize “Destroyed by a Gorgon” - that seems to be new technology, and I’m not sure whether there are rules issues with it. Assuming it works, this is a cool and flavorful thing for Gorgons to be doing.
I’m not sure if the ability is the sort of thing that necessarily goes on a land; lands rarely have repeatable, board-affecting triggered abilities of this sort. A statue garden is a place, but I would generally expect to see this effect on an artifact or enchantment.
Tumblr media
@misterstingyjack - Renais, Prince of Beasts
Because the contest for this week disallowed creature cards, there were a limited number of ways to make cards that could take advantage of their own tribal effects. Making tokens is the easiest, but this approach is also very cool. This design also allows for a very highly tribal planeswalker (none of the loyalty abilities do anything without beasts) that’s still functional on its own.
The first ability may need to read “number of loyalty counters on him,” but that’s just a minor templating issue.
Tumblr media
@morbidlyqueerious - Mycelial Reinforcement
The tribal Winding Constrictor effect plays very well with both the spore counter mechanic historically associated with fungi and with the general Doubling Season strategy that the tribe tends to adopt in Commander. There’s potential for slight rules confusion with cards like Ghave (Ghave enters with only one extra counter), but decks that play cards of this sort already potentially deal with that interaction, so that may not be that big of a deal.
Tumblr media
@naban-dean-of-irritation - Vantrian Tactics
Even with just a few available targets, this is a fairly decision-dense card; the number of possible permutations grows pretty quickly. That’s not unique among Magic cards, but this card asks the player to make the decision every turn, and the nature of the chosen keywords is such that differentiations will often be slight, and the total impact of the card is fairly moderate. Outside of a handful of specific interactions (Infect, etc.), First Strike is generally just a worse version of Indestructible, although I don’t know that that’s necessarily a strike against the card, and can help experienced players make decisions more quickly, as its exceedingly rare that it’s worth it to give something first strike until you’ve already allocated the Indestructible.
Tumblr media
@nicolbolas96 - Ritual of the Nezumi
This card is another great example of using a tribe to limit the impact of an otherwise potentially very dangerous effect. There are certainly some good rats out there, but it’s a very narrow set as a whole, and limited in the sorts of things that appear on the cards. I also like that this card heavily encourages spreading the mana out over several rats or rat-abilities. There may not be much in the way of specific reasons for this card to work with rats rather than with some other tribe (although there are some decent rat token generation options), but rats do fall in the window of being plentiful enough and interesting enough that a tribal card that only works with them is interesting without being so omnipresent that a ritual that also functions as a spell copier is dangerous.
Black hasn’t gotten many mana-positive rituals recently - Culling Ritual is the last new one I know of, and may be the only one in Modern. It’s still nominally in Black’s pie as of the most recent Mechanical Color Pie article when some other cost is involved, however, so this card seems fine.
Tumblr media
@nine-effing-hells - Nature’s Majesty
“Power four or greater” is a theme they’ve used a couple times in RG, and that’s also where similar themes often live. This card extends that to blue; I’m assuming that this appears in a wedge product where the theme lives in those colors and where the referenced creature types also are prominent there. In that context, it makes a lot of sense, and clearly spells out a path for a deck.
This card does something that a few multi-tribe submissions do, which is to require colors that one of the tribes isn’t likely to be playing in a dedicated tribal deck. There are technically a few blue plants, but a plant deck that wants to play this plant tribal card is probably mono-green or green-black. That said, the pool of plant cards that trigger the effect to begin with is pretty small, so barring new plants being released alongside this card, this is probably mostly for beast and elemental decks to begin with.
Tumblr media
@pocketvikings - Piper’s Swarm
Rats were a popular tribe option for this contest. Rats don’t have a terribly strong tribal identity - they’re kind of good at making tokens, some of them have discard effects, etc., but there’s not really a specific iconic thing that rats do. This card cleverly references a single existing and flavor-driven Rat card, Piper of the Swarm. This card can’t be anything but a rat tribal card - if you replace it with a different creature type, the reference is lost.
Tumblr media
@rasputingold - Crypt Command
I’m assuming that this card, like other existing commands, is meant to be a rare; it’s pretty complex and overbearing for a common. The base rate on this card is pretty good - four mana to counter a spell and make a 2/2 is solid. There is a little friction between the first and third abilities, in that the first ability is more likely to be used on not your turn or during your end step, when the third ability is useless, but it’s not a total nonbo, and it’s fine if not all mode combinations are reliably good.
Normally, if one mode of a command targets something that has a good chance of becoming an illegal target while the command is on the stack, then all of the modes target, so that the spell doesn’t fail to resolve if one of its targets becomes illegal. Ojutai’s Command suggests that spells (or at least creature spells) are not considered likely enough to become illegal targets that that’s a concern, so this spell is probably in the clear. (There’s an argument to be made that spells that target are more likely to become illegal targets if what they target is removed.)
Tumblr media
@reaperfromtheabyss - Dusk Beacon
I’m not 100% sure what this card represents, but it’s a good all-around support card that any tribe could make use of. The primary tribal identity of Scarecrows in Shadowmoor block is supporting and being supported by non-colorless creatures and aside from that they’re sort of generally just small artifact creatures, but this card does have specific synergy with Scarecrone and The Reaper King, who are probably the most popular scarecrows, and who are among the most worth actually building around. Menace is a nice choice of keyword, as it’s a fairly scarecrow-y keyword, but no printed Scarecrows have it.
Tumblr media
@shakeszx - Negotiated Services
I’m assuming the decision to make this card symmetrical (rather than asymmetrical, like almost all modern tribal effects) was intentional, and I think it’s kind of interesting if that’s the case, because the drawback is large enough to serve as a meaningful hoser. The card only ever really goes in Rogue/Mercenary decks, but it makes more sense as a symmetrical card than most tribal effects do. I’m not sure if this interaction is quite worth breaking the modern default of this sort of design being asymmetrical, but it makes a decent argument for it.
Tumblr media
@snugz - Fiendish Omens
Batching these three types together makes a lot of sense; Rakdos the Showstopper does it, and it feels like a well that’s natural to return to. Red and Black don’t get this sort of effect terribly often, but it’s reasonable for things that are in their colors, I suppose. This could arguably dig a little deeper; a set would have to be very heavily focused on these creature types before you could build a deck where this rarely whiffs, and I think you need this to rarely whiff for it to be worth including.
Tumblr media
@starch255 - Crabcasting
This is presumably a crab so that it can use its granted ability itself. An enchantment granting itself a tap ability is a little odd; while this is an interaction that exists in the game across multiple cards (E.g., Joraga Treespeaker and Prowess of the Fair), putting it on a single card feels like it’s pushing into Future Sight design territory, and creeping on one of the few remaining distinctions between artifacts and enchantments. The card itself does a great job playing into the mill identity that crabs have sort of picked up against all odds.
Tumblr media
@takemuse1 - Age of Trax
This card is a very cool lore cut - The Age of Trax is an era of Theros’s history when Archons ruled as tyrants before being overthown by Kynaios and Tiro, with the help of the gods. The card itself recalls the abilities of several notable archon creatures, which is cool. The card is a bit on the wordy side; that’s nothing new for Sagas, but this one may have more total text than any currently printed Saga. The first ability may be able to lose the part about playing Archons from your hand; the card still lightly encourages Archon tribal through the second ability. The last ability may also be a bit of a reach in white; white gets symmetrical card draw, but I’m not sure if the other abilities are something that appears much in white.
Tumblr media
@wilsonosgoodmcman - Overshadow
The card name here is extremely clever, and helps sell an otherwise somewhat improbable combination of abilities. There’s some synergy between a Shade’s ability to pump itself and the mechanics of the card (and some non-synergy with most Shades’ very low non-pumped stats, which helps control the card’s power level), but the name pun really helps it cohere.
Behind everything else, this is a fairly powerful card, as a free removal spell, even if you’re not using the Shade part.
Tumblr media
@wolkemesser - Sarpadian Diplomacy
This card has a clever, novel, powerful ability on it - powerful enough that I’m not at all confident how much this card should cost. It’s a very good combo with lots of things, but most of the things that’s a very good combo with are cards that are already a very good combo with lots of things.
Finding a mechanical tie between two creature types that have a flavor tie helps the card feel cohesive, and I think it’s interesting that the two referenced types interact with sacrifice in different ways. (Many funguses with sacrifice abilities sacrifice other things, while thrulls sacrifice themselves.)
That said, there is one hitch with this card - it’s substantially more natural in a Fungus deck than in a Thrull deck. A Thrull deck that wants to play this Thrull tribal card has to include green, which it otherwise has no particular reason to do.
The card also supplies a recurring blocker for no mana investment. although its status as a rare means that that’s not as much of an issue.
Tumblr media
@yourrightfulking - Clique’s Contingency
This card packs a lot of different decision points into a relatively tight package, especially if the player controls exactly one faerie. The nods to what faeries do as a tribe aren’t super loud, but the card fits with the general faerie game plan, and certainly feels trickster-y.
There are enough non-blue fairies that this card does represent counterspell access in non-blue decks. That could be considered a bug or a feature, but the “safe” version of this card would probably cost U if you returned a fairy. That said, while Bitterblossom and certain Changelings do make it into non-fairy decks, realistically any deck that’s considering this card is likely playing blue.

❨142❩ ❛ Everyone has their own version of a memory. ❜
Shaking his head and quite annoyed that another pack’s alpha was here watching Enrique run through some drills to help the wolves shift, Lobo thought best to get rid of the pups for now. It also didn’t help that Liliana kept on talking and talking-not caring to have interrupted his lesson. “Go run around the perimeter-yes the whole perimeter” Lobo snapped before one of the younger ones could protest, “and come back on four legs by the end of it. Go.”
Watching the last of the group turn and jog off, Enrique picked up his shirt that rested against a tree and slipped it back on. Turning to Liliana, Lobo ran a hand through his hair, “Look, I don’t know what you want me to tell you Liliana. Everyone has their own version of a memory. Mine seems to be very different than yours on what happened that night.” ( @khanivcre )

Updated list of the bitches in this system because Gods know we needed it, go!
• Fae- Actual owner of the body. Has not been fully “themself” since they were like 6 (when Harl got here). Always co-cons with someone because they can’t stand being out alone.  Doesn’t know or care what we do with their life. Terrified of people. Has left us alone for extended periods of time. If you think you’ve talked to them, there’s a 99% chance it was actually Claire, Amanda, or Becky.  Actually a very sweet kid, but very hurt. Will go to the end of the world for their friends. Can hold a grudge like nobody’s business. Paints themself as a bitch but is a softie. Their mom cannot tell the difference between them and Becky. Diabetic, to Nidia’s displeasure. Closet Gryffindor turned Slytherin in order to survive.
• Amanda – Our system’s “guard dog”/Head Bitch in Charge. Much more complicated than that. The real author of Fae’s thigh scars (barely visible now), and maybe the only reason we made it through high school. The little voice that says “kill everyone and blame it on me”. Zero concern for consequences for herself. Impulse control consists of “Jail is awful and Fae doesn’t deserve it”.  She’s over 30.
• Lisbeth (Sally)- Just…Sally. The other voice that wants to kill everyone but doesn’t because she actually thinks about the consequences of her actions. Max is technically her partner, but we don’t talk about that (you can ask). I think she’s 30-something, but might as well be Fae’s age.
• Claire- Possibly Fae’s projection of herself into different universes. She can be 6, 17, 24 and 35. Last name Constantine. From Liverpool. Awful accent. Please don’t call her Australian. Another closet Gryffindor turned Slytherin.  Most of Fae’s friends are actually hers. Has been Fae for longer than Fae has been Fae. Likes soccer and we’re sorry. Punk. Hella Punk. Also hella broke.
• Mara- Claire’s sister (maybe twin). Approach with caution. (One of the several sexual alters, can be the same ages as Claire) Responsible for most of Fae’s awful dating decisions.
• Valentina- Rarely comes out, but she’s apparently God? We don’t know. Seems like she knows everyone, though. She always looks 20-something, but we know she’s older.
• Nidia- Claire’s daughter and the pure incarnation of Fae’s ADHD. A Jedi. Weirdest kid EVER. Super compassionate. Wears heart on her sleeve.  Can be 5, 9, 16 and 21. Impulse control is 100% artificial, but existent. Can, like Amanda, drink up to 3 cans of Monster Energy Drink in a row without batting a lash. Will eat ALL THE CANDY. The reason we need to carry an extra insulin syringe with us most of the time. Pours fun dip and sweetarts into her drinks. The kind of kid child leashes were invented for.
• Hellena- Mara’s daughter. STAY AWAY. Evil incarnate. Abusive A.F. Can and will destroy you. In her 20’s
• Christine- Hell’s identical twin. Remember that girl in Mean Girls who wants to bake a cake out of sunshine and rainbows and smiles? Christine is that cake. Rarely out. Same age as Hell.
• Evey- Hell and Chris’ big sister. That one kid with the pink hair and lots of tattoos. Zero impulse control.  Always looks like a teenager for some reason (not over 25)
• Vlad- Agender/Genderqueer mystical creature of the forest. Valentina’s child. Awesome person in general. Permanently 17.
• Harley- Yup. THAT Harley. You know the drill. She’s actually the one who makes all the fun plans because she’s the one who has the energy for it. Gets along with everyone until she doesn’t. Can drink us all under the table. Can drink you under the table. Has been Fae for longer than Claire has been Fae. Was the first one here, so she has tattoo privileges. And dating privileges. And everything privileges, basically. If I say how old she is, I may not live to see another day. Fae’s real mum. Will take you to Petco on exam week to pet puppies. Will yell “doge!” out loud.
Pets every dog. Will steal Teddy from Max.
• Edward- Mr. Nigma, sir. Somehow has better makeup skills than all the girls here combined.  If his attitude was as nice as his eyebrows, he’d rule the world by now. EVERYTHING HAS QUESTION MARKS. Knows more than anyone.  Is actually a genius. Wastes his time trying to school the little ones (and trying to get Naya to use proper words).  Smug bastard. Probs 40-something.
• Cass- Also from comics. EVERYTHING IS YELLOW (yiyo). Doesn’t talk much, but is always fun to have around. Will make you watch animated movies and take you to Starbucks. Will also make you work out. Can be 5, 9, 18 and 25. Smol Cass is a fan of pokemon. If it’s yellow, it belongs to her.
• Naya- Cass’ child. Has her own language, featuring words like “kaijukata”, “pakato”, and “omashii” (“Kaiju attack”, an insult of her own invention, and her word for “mother”.) There are no sidewalks, only pedestrian lanes. Biggest Kaiju Enthusiast. Wants to be Mako Mori.
• M.J.- Has been here for as long as Harley has. Isn’t around as much. The difference between her and Claire is that you can actually understand what MJ says when she gets mad. Probs 25 forever.
• Danni- Amanda’s daughter. Will also fuck you up. Has the weirdest kinks.  23
• Miranda- Danni’s daughter. Don’t ask. Also a sexual alter. 21
• Martha- Miranda’s sister. Level-headed.  A psychiatrist. 21. Actually the most mature person in this head, along with Tári.
• Alice- Nidia’s daughter. Also a psychiatrist. Likes psychoanalyzing people. Type 1 bipolar. Thinks all Arkham inmates are humans and wants to help. Will probably end up as an Arkham Inmate herself. Age slides. Toddler Alice is the devil. Can be 5, 9, and 21
• Alyssa- Mara’s best friend. Take Alice out of wonderland and teach her ballet, then add a sprinkle of Luna Lovegood. Permanently 17-ish.
• Robin- Alice’s little sister. Wants to be Carrie Kelly when she grows up. Terrified of squirrels. Can be 5 and 18. Lesbiab. Lesebeb. Girls. Yes.
• Tári- Alice and Robin’s eldest sister. Autistic. Genius extraordinaire. Loves to talk to Eddie. Often one of them leaves the conversation feeling stupid (it isn’t Tári). Loves Legos. REALLY LOVES LEGOS. Forensic Anthropologist/ wants to be Bones when she grows up. Vegetarian. Can be 12/17/21.
• Frances- Harley’s kid. Don’t ask, this was super weird. Frances herself is super weird. She hears voices. The voices tell her to do things. She rarely listens. Actually super polite. Has “opal” hair. 18-20. We don’t really know.  If we’re gonna have a sub-system, it will probably be because of Frankie.
• Shilo- Shilo Wallace. Infected by her genetics. Her nightmares are the worst. Once made Amanda and Sally fight over a pair of combat boots just so she could get to keep them. Probably Becky’s best friend in here.
• Bellatrix- That one got here on her own. Over 50. Still looks great.
• Azula- also got here on her own.
• Cassiopeia- Bella’s biggest mistake. Best teacher ever. Resident hipster chick. Is actually here to keep a little group of alters from causing too much mayhem.  28.
• Ascella- Lesbian extraordinaire. Sees dead people. I’m not even kidding. Permanently 23.
• Jamie Moriarty- Another one who got here on her own. Our self confidence boosts and power trips. Will maybe kill someone. Better than you and is not afraid to let you know.  Fae’s teachers were terrified of her.
Everyone’s terrified of her; I don’t know who we think we’re kidding. 32.
• Lestat- Fae’s gay vampire boyfriend. Is rarely around anymore. Probably for the best. 260-ish years old. Prick.
• Lindsay - THE definitive Sexual alter. From a comic book oneshot. Amanda on steroids, but if Amanda knew how to socialize. Loves horror, movies, photography and monsters. 26.
• Becky - Called “morbid” for a reason. Disabled as all fuck. Autistic/ADHD, connective tissue disorder. A lawyer. Loves to argue. Jon Crane’s wife (at least here). 30ish. Always cold and always in pain. If we cancel plans, it’s most likely her fault and she’s sorry.
• Liliana - Necromancer. Big Titty Goth GF. We love and cherish her, alcoholism and all. Will never be over Jace and she knows it.
• Chandra - Pyromancer extraordinaire with severe ADHD. A lot like Fae in a lot of ways. Decidedly Pansexual, thank you very much. 25.
• Vraska - Ravnican to the core, but also a fantastic pirate. Great leader, good friend, fun to be around. Has the huskiest voice in the system. Has the worst flashbacks out of all of us. Can be 19 and 29. • Kari - Vraska and Jace’s kid. Hypermelanistic gorgon, telepath like her dad. Fun to be around. Can be 7, 12 and 25.
• Ral - Very very Izzet, and very very gay, and we love him for it. Very intelligent, good at fixing and making things with his hands. Confident, charismatic, and a workaholic. Tomik’s husband. Sometimes with Max. In his 40’s
• Tomik - Ral’s husband. Quiet, but very caring and polite.Also very smart and hard-working, always loves to learn new things and meet new people. 27-ish. Very gay, too. Makeup skills up there with Eddie’s.
• Teysa - Tomik’s boss. A Boss Ass Rich Bitch, and we love her lots for it. Very polite and interesting to be around. Could buy us all and our families ten times. Old, but looks to be in her early 30’s.
• Avacyn - An angel from Innistrad. Here to protect us. Really likes listening to old pop-punk and emo music with Max. Very sweet to be around, although she can be a little literal-minded.
• Olivia - A Vampire and a bitch. Liliana’s...ex? Something. A lot like Teysa, but much more fun-loving and impulsive.
• Nahiri - Doesn’t come out much. Stern but caring, very savvy, doesn’t take anyone’s crap. Can hold on to grudges like her life depends on it.

call down the hawk, live thoughts
hi all. i just finished this book (this book!!!) and while i read i took random notes. if you’ve read my re-read posts from trb and tdt, you’ll know the drill, which is: i comment only on what i personally find to be important at any given time, i am largely incoherent, i’m just trying to have fun with these books i love deeply and only kind of understand.
this is the first one of these posts i’ve done for a book i haven’t discussed with anyone at length! i’m not a big theorizing person on my own, so many of my theories are small, underdeveloped, and obviously not true.
anyways, the post is under the read more! sorry it’s deeply long i just have a lot of feelings! also i wrote it all in wordpad which does not have spellcheck. please ignore any and all ridiculous spelling errors thaaanks
prologue & chapters 1-8, aka the sampler chapters I've already read
"he was proud of the family name...his mouth was always shaped like he'd just finished saying it." go ahead and say lynch out loud and you'll agree ronan clearly has his lips perpetually pouted
how many times will i read the name nikolenko and feel my brain wander away because its syllables are too similar to prokopenko? i suppose i'll find out
love that declan says massholes. love declan eating a "sad yuppie candy bar." declan is my best friend and i love him even if he's boring
1101 is ronan's birthday which according to my posts about the sampler is different, because that was listed as 1114. still wrong ronan was born on my birthday in october (not canon)
chapter 9 and beyond
TWENTY-THOUSAND-SQUARE-FOOT HOUSE
sad. ronan and adam do love each other, so much. they care about each other. sad.
gansey currently chained to one of the largest black walnut trees in oregon. love
similarly love this cow balloon situation, very fun
matthew calling ronan out on not just saying i love you to adam. kid.
listen i'm going to say this knoiwng i am only on page 93 of a several-hundren page book, but i love declan and i am frankly tired of everyone who is wrong about him because he cares and loves and he's my friend and he goes on internal monologues about the efficacy of people as safety devices in his brother's life and delegitimizes his own love for his family because he was the less-loved, human child who had to understand firsthand his parents flaws when his brothers did not have to and i love him. and i'm hoarding information about him forever (like needing an antacid to eat a burrito). if you don't like declan your mom's a ho etc. etc.
trying to reconcile the nightwash with trc canon because it's not making sense to me tbh but i also don't have all the information yet. however i love you jordan and hennessy and your four other clones.
I'm sorry, this lady just told ronan and declan they're like a podcast. THE HUMOR.
more about angie. ronan is very sweetly naive asking if she runs the market because she was behind the desk in the otherwise empty lobby. i love him
"most men do not go to mass every sunday and most men do not fall in love with other men." ronan, honey,,
oh man oh man aurora WAS a dream of a real person wasn't she
nvm
22740 zipcode results in: sperryville, va. sperryville. like the boatshoe.
don't know how i feel about my new best friend jordan flirting with my established best friend declan
NVM TO THE NVM ABOVE??
this whole hotel scene is making my brain melt so much is happenning at once. also fuck you niall lynch
this dream where grown up adam feeds ronan a tomato. ronan really does have the wildest desires re: intimacy
HE HATED NEWS STORIES ABOUT PLASTIC IN THE OCEAN. god ronan. call blue. your climate and environmental anxiety needs direction
maybe i'll just spend the rest of this book imagining niall as derry girls james who picks up a northern irish accent
BLUE SAYS BOUDICCA IS THE ORIGINAL GOTH
something very sweet and juvenile about ronan referring to the old women in the mask room as "ladies." similarly juvenile for gansey to refer to boudicca as an "all-lady" group
"thank god," declan said. "you can if you like, matthew said, "but i dressed myself." SCREAMING
this Uncle guy is a facebook minion meme person
why did niall lynch dream himself a car that he still needed to purchase gas for. loser
200 pages in and a brand-new, super interesting mystery has been introduced in LILIANA, who i adore already. scary explosion girl
"i saved your life because i love you" crying emoji crying emoji crying emoji
'it was possible no two students at aglionby had ever come away with such a thorough understanding of latin (or, possibly, of each other).' maggie you're a hoot
i miss adam. i'm about halfway through the book and hoping he makes more appearances but feeling like i'm out of luck :(
adam drove up for ronan's birthday to surprise him. insert literally any crying gif here
those two bullet points were separated by at least three chapters
"he was senselessy turned on" is the most overtly sexual one of the main characters have been in these books maybe? i mean i know gansey and blue's not-kiss and yogurt sharing were both very sexy moments but
dreaming with the whole world's imagination instead of just his own!!! wow!!!
idk what liliana does exactly but i adore her the most
adam always being in the market for new skills i love him
oh they referenced one of my favorite scenes, ronan teaching adam how to drive stick, which then allowed him to steal gansey's car. romance
"what, as the kids say, the fuck?" ronan you are 19 years old you are the kids
declan got ronan a zoo membership for his birthday that's very cute
ronan just turned 19 yet declan said that matthew is a month shy of 18 this math does not add up. matthew was 15 in trc
i went to bed at this point so the rest of these notes are from before and after work haha
liliana's chapters all being narrated by other characters is so interesting. it reminds me of ronan not having any chapters in trb so that his story could be a mystery for the second book, except this time we're getting absolutely no insight into her as a character because all of the characters she's interacting with are strangers. she's a complete mystery who sucks all the sound out of the world and can bless children and make houses nice
the old woman is very cold..is liliana what adam saw while scrying, the thing that's scared of bryde? he also came to very cold. probably not but if she is: i said it here
i love wendy the diner waitress calling ronan and hennessy kids and not being phased by ronan's bad attitude and patting his hand and telling him he reminds her of her boy and putting a whipped cream smiley face on his waffles
liliana is looking for hennessy and hennessy has been having the dream for ten years and it's just like adam described. so i still think liliana is the thing they've both seen
(also ronan called adam his boyfriend which is cute and good. also psychic!)
ah probably nvm about liliana because it appears she is a visionary, which i probably should have figured out on my own
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i'm almost certain i once read a fic where declan was actually the son of a human woman and then aurora was dreamed and had ronan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
aurora is a dreamed version of a real woman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
man, fuck niall lynch
this is like the weirdest week in declan's deeply weird life. poor guy
MANAGEMENT?
ronan apparently calls all of the small girls closest to him maggot
i've finally decided to google what a psychopomp is. it's a spirit guide, in case you too didn't care to look it up despite maggie referring to opal as such no fewer than a hundred times.
carmen is definitely going to end up on the side of the dreamers by the end of this series...or at least i hope. liliana saying she'l follow her anywhere when she punches ramsay....
ronan: bad teacher
biggest surprise of this book is that declan seriously, genuinely loves art
feels like carmen and liliana are gonna get together?
ronan asking hennessy not to let him be the only one...very sweet....very trc ronan lynch who doesn't understand what he is
sargento
hennessy and ronan holding hands as they start to dream is so very sweet. my favorite new best friends
'ronan had loved richard c. gansey iii far more than he loved himself at that point.' SAD
this is way more of a cliffhanger ending than any of the trc books and i'm mad about it.
if you read all of this honestly bless your soul. someone please talk to me about this book.

I saw these two hairs, and they immediately reminded me of Rapunzel from Tangled.  Sure, they’re not the same hairstyles that Rapunzel has, but it’s long, blonde and short, brown twin drills.  The hairstyles are Liliana Epic (long, blonde) and Cute Curls (short, brown).

Also: Chandra volunteered to be a Fire Warden. Likely with Liliana convincing her that she could create "authentic" fire drills.
