Here is my late rambling analysis of the new LU update:

I love Wind's face and posture. He's just like "Challenge accepted!" Hyrule and Wild my beloveds <3

A lot of people saw this sequence and went "oh no something bad is going to happen to Epona!" but I took it to mean that Epona doesn't want to go in the dungeon and that Twilight knows that Epona will be just fine hanging out outside (tasty snack time ehehehe).

I can't put my finger on exactly what's changed about the coloring but WOW it is popping. So vibrant. I love it. Made my eyes happy.

Also I love it when Jojo draws the gang in lines like this. It makes me think that she's doing it for fun (just like when you draw your OCs in lineups a million times cuz it makes you happy), that she still loves and takes great pride in showing off her blorbos.

Also, Wild is taller than Legend (and Hyrule) >:)

I love that he spelled this out to the others. Makes so much sense. In Lord of the Rings terms, most of the other Links are like Frodo and Sam running around to secretly bring the ring to Mordor, while Warriors is like Aragorn who straight up charged the Black Gates of Mordor with an army.

It's so funny how all the other heroes automatically assumed that Warriors' Hyrule had dungeons and that he just didn't bother to go through them. XD

So this implies that A) that comic where Wild and Hyrule met the wallmaster happened recently and B) it was sometime when Wars wasn't there with them, which makes me think that the wallmaster comic happened at the same time as this comic:

I can't remember where I read it but I seem to remember Jojo saying that Legend was the most likely to prank others and this is an example of that. This is a characterization that surprised me at first (I would have expected Wind or Hyrule to be more of a prankster) but if you think about Who Legend Is, it actually makes a lot of sense.

I was trying to figure out which game this skulltula is from and my conclusion is that I think it is most similar to skulltulas from OOT 3D / MM 3D. I wonder if that means that they are in or near Time's time. Either that or this is a case of monsters getting mixed up between Hyrules like we saw in the Threatening Shadows story arc.

Time is clearly very wound up still over what happened to Twilight. While all the other heroes have seemed to pretty much bounced back after that harrowing incident and are caught up in youthful optimism and the excitement of a new dungeon, Time hasn't forgotten and he wants to make sure the heroes don't forget the seriousness of their situation and their enemy. Just because the Shadow was defeated once doesn't mean that they can do it again so easily (not that it was easy before).

My writer brain immediately interpreted this as foreshadowing that they aren't going to even make it to the central chamber before the group gets involuntarily broken up (trap doors my beloved mwahaha). Of course that may not end up being the case, they may make it the central chamber without incident.

I figure that ideally the group will split into 3 groups of 3, each group having at least one older Link (Time, Wars, Twi, Sky) and one younger Link (Four, Legend Hyrule, Wild, Wind). How much you wanna bet that Time wants Twi with him in order to keep an eye on him/protect him?

One of my many many favorite parts of the update was Legend jumping in front of Wild and yelling at him

He’s so concerned (and annoyed lol) that Wild has no clue what he’s doing— he doesn’t want him to step foot in another room and get spike trapped or separated off from the others by sudden bars or anything.

And while Wild seems willing to learn what to do, he doesn’t want to be coddled. He looks to me like he thinks Legend is taking this a little too seriously.

...Which is making Wind think of how everybody kept coddling him and treating him like a kid instead of a hero.

(also shout out to Sky’s little hehe and elbow, I love him)

Everyone is still a little on edge.... and Legend is rather aware of how one misstep in a dungeon can cost you. He just wants Wild to treat this seriously!!

Which Wild may be doing, but it certainly doesn’t come across that way.

And I could also see Wild getting a bit cocky because he thinks dungeons are going to be exactly like the shrines, even when they’re not... but we shall see.

Wild you better listen to what Warriors was saying and pay attention to Legend’s advice, or... this might not end well.

Entrance Thoughts

It’s that time again! Chapter thoughts!

In all seriousness, I love how they’re all aghast that Wars has never been in a dungeon. We all knew they would be but it’s fun to see it in canon.

Also love how Wild isn’t technically included since he has Divine Beasts, not dungeons.

Leg is really letting his gremlin side take over. I can’t tell if this is new or if I just need a refresher on the older chapters…

Speaking of chapters, I just want to take a minute to look at the quality of this comic and appreciate it. The expressions! The colors! The movement! The poses! The character designs! Big shoutout to Jojo! She is outdoing herself!

Sky being all smug that he’s not the one being messed with this time.

And Legend being smug about messing with Warriors.

All is right in the world.

First of all, I love how realistic this is that they all can’t fit in one area. Some of these spaces are small.

I also love how the frames themselves are very jittery and cut into each other. Really makes you feel how the Links keep getting in each others’ ways in this scene.

Oh boy I can feel a Conflict brewing between the boys and Time. Time just wants to keep them safe, especially after almost losing Twi, but the boys are all heroes in their own rights and obviously are stubborn as hell.

I doubt that bad letter from a few chapters ago is making Time’s mood any better either.

I can’t wait for the Links to split off in little groups. Get to see them one-on-one together and working together. I wonder how they’ll split up? What will their teams be?

I cannot wait for this dungeon crawl!

Hi! I just wanted to drop by and say how much I love and appreciate your analyses. Even though you may call them ramblings, your excitement shines through every word and they always bring a smile to my face. I very much look forward to them 😊

I consider myself a visual person but there’s still a lot I miss, even on a second or third read (My Zelda knowledge isn’t that deep but I’m learning!) So your connections about the little details help me to enjoy the comic even more!

In the comic itself, which character relationships are you hoping will get explored more in the current arc (especially since we know they’ll be splitting up soon)?

TIME AND FOUR

Time and four time and four time and four-

I reallyyyyyy want Time and Four to go together in the dungeon even though the chances are iffy. Maybe if I want it hard enough it'll happen XP

Even if they don't go together, I really want Time and Four's relationship to develop more in the comic. Here's why-

First of all, Time and Four fight really well together. Time is also just really good at fighting with the shoter ones overall

THEN THERE'S this part in Doodles part 3 that has me convinced Time knows Four's secret with the Four sword

I'm pretty sure it's Time's voice saying 'you never cease to impress me little one', and Jojo (I think? need to check) said all these older sketches are considered canon so yeah. I'm impatient because I want clarification and to know if Time knows about the four sword or not

Four is also insanely emotionally mature and intuitive, and at this point I think he is the best person to be there for Time when he's so upset after Twilight's injury. Time has never underestimated Four so they make a great team

I'm not sure if you wanted on full on analysis response, but there you are. I really want Time and Four's relationship to get explored more because it matters to me hehe

Twi's faces omg they were so amazing this update

Plus his little puppy dog head tilt is hilarious I love it

Hyrule did the pose!!!! So many memories of every time I've gotten a rupee and a little cut scene plays shot into my head all at once lol.

Also, Wild, I love your enthusiasm, but shrines and dungeons are not necessarily that similar. I haven't played a lot of the legend of Zelda games (mostly just twilight princess, breath of the wild, tears of the kingdom, and a little bit of ocarina of time and Majora's mask) but I know that, especially in twilight princess, the dungeons could take forever, and you had to remember what was in every room and where each room and puzzle piece/answer was, and shrines are very isolated with a pretty obvious goal. Also, most notably, a lack of monsters that are likely to jump out at you at any moment.

When I saw this I immediately thought of the ace attorney meme lol.

I also think legend is justified in his caution. He's gone through a lot of adventures (he's the Veteran for a reason) so he knows just how dangerous a dungeon can be. Doesn't mean he's the best at explaining himself, but I'm not either, so I can't judge.

I love Wind so much, he's ready to just jump in there and start, we stan. (Plus Sky's hilarious here and I love it)

I mean, Four's not wrong, and he would know out of everyone there (I remember a lot of fighting going on in the manga), but the way he said it just killed me. Plus his face in that last panel with the height difference, omg it's hilarious I love it.

Also I'm in love with how Jojo draws every character in so many different poses and angles, but there would be wayyyy too many photos to add to show that.

Time Vs. Space travel

So the Chain's already picked up that they didn't travel in space, the traveled in time, which is something I hadn't ever considered happening before. I had a sudden revelation yesterday:

Every story I've written and read has the Chain using the portals to travel through space, but what if instead they're only traveling through time? What if all of the portals are locked to the exact same coordinates on whatever planet Hyrule is on throughout all of Hyrulian history?

What if they never travel in space but only through time and keep on entering and exiting the exact same door just at different points of history? As geography and climate changes around the portal through history it only makes it seem like they're moving through space, but they aren't.

I know this probably isn't the case, but it is a fun thing to consider (sounds like a Doctor Who plot XD).

a closer look at legend in entrance

reblog the update if you haven't, and let's get into it!

i want to shine a spotlight on legend's personality and actions, since this is an awesome demonstration of the way jojo is writing him. she's said before that he's in the middle-older age group (a year or two younger than hyrule) and is one of the biggest pranksters yet knows when to be serious. legend spends this whole update being his wonderful self, and i just want to take a moment to point out the obvious because the fanon lens doesn't always leave room for it.

though they each have their moments of varying maturity, legend (likely 17 according to calculations) tends to look younger than hyrule (likely 18-19 according to calculations). the veteran may be more experienced (and he shows it) but he's still a kid at heart and i love that for him <3

legend is still pleased with himself for trying to lighten the dour mood time is enforcing- and so is sky! wild, on the other hand, is following the older heroes' lead and attempting to stay focused. at this point, wild has only conquered the divine beasts- he's not as clueless as warriors but he is, still, lacking a bit on the dungeon experience front. besides, this isn't the first time that wild and legend have butted heads.

when things get serious, so does legend- he knows how to adjust his mood to the situation in a heartbeat. he doesn't apologize for trying to help everybody relax (i would argue that he doesn't need to), and he has no issues preparing for battle- unlike our arm-locked heroes in the front.

legend knows dungeons, and he's learning quickly what it takes to work in a group. after the scare with twilight, legend believes that they will only go so far if they spend the entire dungeon on edge and afraid. time is right that they need to stay serious, and legend agrees, but the chain is going to benefit from all aspects of this teen's extensive experience.

This is so wonderful. I love seeing the blorbos discuss their adventures and the similarities and differences between them. I remember gasping and then screaming when I figured out I could get fairies from anti-fairies 😂 it pleases me greatly that that’s a shared experience hehehehe.
