the reason why the messi ronaldo debate is still going on is simply because ronaldo is more marketable than messi. people don’t like to admit it, but aesthetics, the way a player presents themselves, and the way they market themselves play a key role in forming their opinions on them as players.
ronaldo has always been more marketable than messi, because he spoke english, messi didn’t.
ronaldo always interacted more with the media, whether it was in interviews, pre/post match press conferences, or apps like instagram.
now that he’s made a youtube channel, people are trying to use this as an argument for the goat debate. no one ever denies ronaldo’s influence on the world, he is one of the most marketable athletes ever, hence his millions of followers/subscribers, but his footballing ability is nowhere near messi’s.
any person with eyes can tell you that what messi did in 2012, 2015, 2019 etc. is exceptional. teams literally had specific defensive tactics for him. maldini came out saying he was thankful he was injured, so he didn’t get to play against messi. when messi played against their teams, world class players and coaches always pointed him out as the biggest threat. always.
we’re talking about a player who has won 8 ballon d’ors, 6 golden boots, a player who has won absolutely everything at international level, and who was the main focus of every single trophy his club(s) won. a player who scored 91 goals in a calendar year, 73 in a season etc.
if messi is considered a goal scorer, he’s a goal scorer with 300+ assists, not normal.
if messi is considered a playmaker, he’s a playmaker with 800+ goals, not normal.
there’s no my goat bullshit, there’s only one actual goat and he is lionel messi.

The moment Evgeni Malkin became a dad, with son Nikita arriving between Games 1 and 2 of the 2016 Stanley Cup Final and weighing in at seven pounds, one ounce, his already-huge heart grew even bigger.
"I remember those first hours after Nikita was born, and it's kind of like someone flipped a switch," said George Birman, a longtime Penguins employee who's a good family friend of the Malkins. "He completely changed and he became such a guardian, a caring person. He's a great dad, he's a crazy dad (laughs), protective dad. He loves Nikita so much, it's unbelievable."
It's been wonderful for Birman - and for all of us! - to watch Geno embrace fatherhood with Nikita, who turned 7 on May 31. With Malkin still a big kid himself in so many ways, it's clear he has a blast being Nikita's dad, posting about some of their adventures to his Instagram account, @emalkin71geno. My personal favorite was the two of them posing in blazers on Nikita's last day of school, captioned, "We are smart and fun."
During hockey season, Nikita loves going to his dad's games, wearing a Penguins jersey and screaming "Let's Go Pens!" with the rest of the crowd. Then, during the summers, Evgeni enjoys taking his little boy to other sporting events, including basketball games, tennis tournaments and, most importantly, soccer matches, as 'fútbol is life' for Nikita.
Last year, Geno gifted Nikita with a Lionel Messi jersey - which he'll surely be wearing even more now that the Argentinian superstar signed with Inter Miami of Major League Soccer, as Evgeni and his wife Anna have a residence in Florida.
"Geno fully supports him, but somewhere pretty deep down it's like damn, Nikita loves soccer more," Birman laughed. "Right now, he's so serious, and he's doing so good, so I don't think it's killing Geno that he plays soccer. He's a great skater. He's unbelievable playing hockey. But at some point, because he was doing hockey in the winter and soccer in the summer, he completely switched to soccer."
Nikita hasn't just inherited Evgeni's athleticism - he inherited his looks. "He looks just like you. It's uncanny, as if you were the same person," Evgeni's parents Vladimir and Natalia wrote in a letter to their son when he reached 1,000 points. "Anna says, there is nothing of mine here!'"
And personality-wise, Birman says that Nikita is competitive like his dad, which comes out whenever father and son play chess.
"When they are playing chess, it gers to the ridiculous point when they both start fighting," Birman laughed. "I'm like, dude, Geno, let him go, or let him win! But no. None of them wants to lose. When they are playing together, it's the funniest thing to watch them. One is like, you're not gonna beat me, you're my kid. And the other one is like, you're not gonna beat me, you're my dad. I'm like, all right, I'm just gonna watch and enjoy."
Well, maybe today, just this once, Nikita will let Geno win. Happy Father's Day to all of our hockey dads!
this was way too cute

western news outlets and reporters are claiming that messi wearing the bisht, the black garment/overcoat, “ruined” (the telegraph) the best moment of his life.
“it’s a shame they’ve covered his argentina shirt” (gary lineker, bbc pundit). “just why, why would they do that?”
do you have any idea how tone-deaf that comes across as? do you know how expensive this piece of clothing is? did you consider that this is a way an arab host is honouring his guest? by giving him the same cloak their royalty wear? did you consider the fact that no one else cares??????
messi himself posted the picture on instagram 😭. anyone can see that he didn’t look at all uncomfortable when they were putting it on him. western media is clearly more disturbed about it than he is. he just looks like he’s having the best moment of his life and he couldn’t care less if he was wearing a spacesuit right now, but thank you to western media for enforcing the idea it was a problem.
oh and even if he did have a problem with it, can i just make it clear that NO ONE, less still you morally superior westerners, is allowed to talk about someone else’s culture with such a ridiculously distasteful and arrogant tone.
honestly in a way i’m so glad this world cup is over because now i can stop hearing western media’s constant passive aggressive, frankly racist attitude towards arab/muslim culture. good riddance…

edit: thank you to all the wonderful argentines and others taking the time reblogging saying that you understand it was something meant to honour messi and that u honestly don’t care that he wore it, im loving reading what you guys think and im glad most of us have brains here, much love to you all ‼️🫡

Messi and Mbappe holding hands during the 2022 World Cup Final. // The Creation of Adam, Michelangelo. // Skyfall, Adele.
“Adam's figure is curved as he stretches out to God, taking one's mind to the idea that man is made in the likeness of God himself. The way the two dominant figures relate and correspond to each other, one can almost see the closeness that Adam has with his creator... the figure of Adam echoes the figure of God, almost as if one is nothing but an extension of the other.”
“This World Cup final feels like it marks the end of one era and the beginning of another. The sight of Messi and Mbappe in opposition is symbolic.”
“Mbappe has an immense humility and desire to learn from Leo.” - Ander Herrera.
"I learned a lot from you as a player, partner, opponent and man. For that alone I am thankful. Good luck on your new adventure." - From Kylian Mbappe’s instagram post dedicated to Lionel Messi.

Argentina NT and Their Capitan, Lionel Messi
I've been thinking about the Argentina NT team dynamics. How they are so friendly with each other. How they always talk about how nice it is be back practicing with their NT teammates. The early morning mate, their interactions during and after training sessions, the protectiveness over one another during matches, some of the selfless on pitch moments that helped win matches, their silly Instagram posts, stories and comments, their remarks about a fellow teammate during interviews and finally, their love and respect for their Capitan, Leo Messi!
And their dedication towards him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't think you'll ever find any team that is sooo happy to be part of a team. And so caring and committed towards their leader.
Yes, Leo Messi is the best player in the world. But what counts in a team more than skills is leadership and teamwork. I remember pundits and haters saying that Messi is not a good leader. He cannot lead a team, bring about unison and motivate them to win. If Argentina plays badly, it's because of him. Not just cuz he didn't produce goals during the match ("He dissapears at the big moments!"), but also because he just can't seem to get his team to play as TEAM ("All they do is pass the ball to him, hoping he could pull a trick out of his football cleats. There is no team here, just Messi + 10 men."
To some extent, this is true. The team was not cohesive. They were over reliant on Messi and the team was built around him. The NT had world class players, but they were a bunch of players put together and not really a unit. But due to the amount of talent in the team, they were expected to perform great. To produce results. The amount of pressure put on Leo due to this is only something I can imagine.
From an outsider's perspective, it did take a while for Messi to embrace the role of a leader. Everyone believed that he didn't do what a leader does to motivate his team. Hell, some believed that HE is the cause for dressing room unrests. But none of the outsiders really saw what went on in the dressing rooms. We saw how he interacted with his players on the pitch. And to most, he looked detached. They didn't see him egging his members on to play better, they didn't see him encouraging them, they didn't see him helping them out from the sidelines when he's not playing ("like Ronaldo does").
He was quite. He was tense. He looked like he didn't care.
("He's just in his own world when he's with the national team")
But things started to change. We saw him step up for his team (not for the first time, but this was what everyone remembers). The Argentina NT was getting bad press and media attention in 2016. Reports had come out that Ezequiel Lavezzi had smoked marijuana during NT training camp. Leo took the initiative to bring the whole NT to the press conference room and announce that the team wont speak to the press anymore. “We received a lot of accusations, a lot of disrespect. The accusations against Lavezzi are very serious.”
It's safe to say many were surprised. Leo Messi was officially taking a stance and standing up for his teammates. It was fresh to see Leo taking his captain role so seriously and protecting his members.
And we started seeing more of this side of Leo. The captain side. We saw him really being there for his teammates. And maybe this side of him increased the trust his teammates had in him.
With Lionel Scaloni coming in as coach, it changed things up. More young players were brought in. Players who grew up watching Leo Messi play. They considered him their role model. They felt inspired by him.
Tumblr media
(15 year old Enzo Fernandez's letter to Messi after his retired from his International Career in 2016)
Team dynamics changed. The Argentinian National Team liked coming together for the international matches, meeting their teammates and doing familiar Argentinian things only they know of. They hung out on each other's rooms. They grew fond of one another. They became good friends.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for their captain, they loved him. They were protective of him. Praised him. Not only for his skills, but his humility, his leadership and his attitude. They'd take any chance to talk about him. Though they admired and looked up to him, they worked with him, then for him. They worked together, as a unit. They were there for each other and Leo. And Leo was there for them. Together.
AND THEY WON.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You get it? It's like poetry, it rhymes!
Anyways, Argentina NT is the best team ever. They were a joy to witness, their interactions with each other, how happy they seemed when they were together and also their play during the matches. This team deserved to win the World Cup. No doubt.
The leader and his devoted followers.
The GOAT with his team of World Class dedicated players.
THE ARGENTINA NATIONAL TEAM.

i’m curious to know what ur theories are omg!! (on why ney left) but yes, we’ll truly never know it really did seem to come out of nowhere
Okay we’ll start off with my most probable theory:
1) the PSG game. Oh the Barca v. PSG comeback game. The Remontada. That game still makes me sick lol. It was a spectacular game. Arguably one of, if not, the biggest comeback in UCL history. Leo scored a penalty, but Neymar was the true genius of the game. Neymar scored an amazing free kick and penalty (which it’s so interesting that he took them too btw when normally Leo would take them). And he also provided the amazing assist to Sergio Roberto in literally the last minute to secure the win. However, that one photo of Leo went VIRALLLLL and he seemed to be getting all of the credit for the game. Part of me thinks that really pissed Neymar off, and he was literally in his prime if not getting to be there, and maybe he realized the only way to prove his greatness was to get out of a club with Lionel Messi there. So while he truly did love Leo as a person/teammate/idol, he was the one person standing in his way to achieving ultimate greatness. I think in the beginning he was truly about the team mentality and wanting to help Leo be the best (he literally said that in his debut), but Neymar isn’t the type of person to only strive to be that. He wants to the best (he’s always been quoted saying this too lol), and he wants to WIN. Him being the leader? Even better. If this was the reason, I don’t really blame him too much. I wish he never left, but underappreciation can really drive someone up a wall.
2) there is a chance that this move could’ve been prompted even earlier than when Neymar had left. Dani Alves joined PSG in 2017, and it was no surprise that he had urged Neymar to join him. He was even quoted once saying that the only way for Neymar to be the greatest was to get out of Leo’s shadow at Barca. I’m not saying he instilled the idea into his brain, but it seems like he was thinking what some other people were too.
3) the money. €222 million buy out clause is insane, and the wages PSG was paying Neymar was out of this world. Literally his move broke the market. There’s a chance that maybe that’s why he left (although I doubt it. Mans was making enough) unlesssssss his father had something to do with it.
4) the father. While Neymar’s dad said he never wanted Neymar to leave Barcelona, there’s a part of me that thinks that maybe he helped push the decision. He could’ve either wanted it for money, orrrrr there’s a chance that he could’ve pushed the idea into Neymar’s head that he needed to be the greatest. Potential constant comparisons between him and other players that made him feel like he wasn’t good enough. That he had to leave and bring a team to its first UCL to prove his worth. I’m not sure.
5) this is my delusional ass fanfic ass brain that should be taken LIGHTLY. But Neymar announcing for the first time he was thinking of leaving Barca for PSG at Leo’s wedding??? Um??? Who does that? At a wedding? At Leo’s wedding?? It’s interesting is it not? And the Instagram pictures he posted of the wedding afterwards and the caption… it was just iffy and unusual to me. Maybe the pain of staying would’ve been too much. I don’t know. (AGAIN TAKE THIS VERY LIGHTLY THERE IS A REASON WHY IT IS NEAR THE BOTTOM OF THIS LIST 😭😭 — delulu brain over here okay I am claiming absolutely nothing) Also, around this time Leo was getting REALLY close to Suarez. I wonder if Neymar felt abandoned somehow and that also made him want to leave too.
6) maybe he just didn’t believe in the team that much anymore? The 16/17 season was really bad in comparison to the prior one. Maybe he foresaw Barca’s downfall and wanted to get out before his reputation could’ve been ruined because of it.
Anyways these are all my dumb little theories. Take them with a grain of salt. I don’t know anything nor claim to know anything. But these are the best theories my brain could conjure up 🤷‍♀️

pique WHAT??? he betrayed leo???????? how did i not know this 😭 what happened? (no pressure at all to explain ofc but google isn’t being very cooperative)
I'm not gonna go into too many details because 1) my internet is literally on the verge of death rn. 2) I'm sure I don't know the whole story myself because when that happened, I had my finals and wasn't paying a lot of attention to the happenings. 3) I don't usually delve into drama and stuff like this so I'm sure I have missed a thing or two.
Anyways, Bartomeu had left Barca in ruins by 2021. As Laporta took over, Barca was broke asf and they couldn't afford Leo anymore. But if a few players took a pay cut, Leo could stay at Barca. But Mister Gerard over here signed it a little too late. After Leo had already been captured by the French perfume merchants, Pique took a pay cut and Leo felt betrayed by him. If he had done that earlier, Leo could've stayed at Barca.
Also, it was Pique who "suggested" Laporta let go of Messi to solve the FFP issues. The whole story of "Leo had to leave because of financial issues" was created by him apparently and Leo was fucking done with him by that point. There's also something about Leo writing "Judas" in capital letters in the dressing room, on the board.
In short, Leo loved and trusted Gerard a lot but he ended up being the catalyst in kicking Leo out of his beloved club. He stabbed him in the back when Leo least expected. So fuck that guy.
Also, he claimed he "cried" when Leo left the club but a close friend of Messi's posted a story on Instagram saying something like "Pique, you are a liar! Not only did you not cry but also told Laporta to sell Leo if he wanted to build a winning team. The same Messi who rescued you from Zaragoza when no one wanted you because you were spiteful, envious, and a bad teammate."
So yeah, basically he did awful stuff behind Lionel's back and we hate him <3

Argentina Faces Racism Allegations After Copa America Win
The Argentina national team, fresh off their 2024 Copa America victory, has found itself mired in controversy following a live video posted by Enzo Fernandez on Instagram. The video captures the team singing a derogatory song, sparking widespread backlash and accusations of racism.
Tumblr media
Demba Ba’s Criticism
Former Chelsea and Senegal forward Demba Ba was quick to criticize the Argentina national team. He took to his X account, writing, “Argentina, land of asylum for former Nazis on the run. From 1945, Peron hosted war criminals. And it surprises you…”
The Controversial Video
The turmoil began when Fernandez’s live video went viral on social media. In the video, Argentina players can be heard singing: “They play for France, but their parents are from Angola. Their mother is from Cameroon, while their father is from Nigeria. But their passport says French.”
Reactions from the Football Community
The video has drawn ire from various corners of the football community. Fernandez’s Chelsea teammate, Wesley Fofana, labeled the video as “uninhibited racism” on his social media. The France Football Association (FFF) also weighed in, with President Philippe Diallo stating that they would file an official complaint with FIFA and the Argentina Football Association.
Argentina’s Response
Amid the backlash, Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul offered insight into the team’s perspective. He revealed that team captain Lionel Messi had advised against provoking others during their celebration.
“When the final ended, Messi came and the first thing he said was, ‘nobody taunts anyone, let’s celebrate and enjoy our victory’,” De Paul told OLGA.
De Paul further defended the team, stating, “They always find something against the winner. Whether it’s that we got help, or that we taunt others, or that it’s not such a good team, or that South America is less developed than Europe, we didn’t see any fuss about that when they say those things about us. All these things are said to discredit what we’ve achieved.”
Conclusion
The controversy surrounding Argentina’s victory highlights ongoing issues of racism and sensitivity in sports. As the world champions face mounting allegations, the football community continues to grapple with the broader implications of such incidents.
