Jonathan Bailey's Interview with British Vogue at the Met Gala (2024)
Tumblr media
“Im very calm,” Wicked star Jonathan Bailey told Vogue just hours before he walked the red carpet at the Met Gala tonight. Of course, he was in a suite on the eleventh floor of The Mark at the time, “in my ivory tower”, he joked. “I hear it’s chaos downstairs… apparently there’s a two-and-a-half-hour queue for the lift!”
To the relief of fashion (and Bridgerton) fans everywhere, Bailey ultimately made it through the crush in the lobby to take up his spot on the steps of the Met tonight, wearing a white double-breasted jacket with a black satin lapel and black trousers by Loewe. So far, so classic – but this wouldn’t be a Jonathan Anderson design without a twist: in this case, the addition of a hand-painted metal peony with a “sugar crystal texture”. A straightforward nod to the dress code (“The Garden of Time”), the metal flower embellishment is also ideal “for someone who has extreme hay fever”, Bailey quipped.
The actor explained it was designed to take the place of the traditional bow tie, heaping praise on both Anderson and his stylist Emma Jade Morrison (“She’s a winner”). As for the secret flower on his trouser pocket, concealed by his white jacket? “That was my idea.”
Loewe feels like a natural choice for Bailey, who is fast becoming a fixture on Jonathan Anderson’s front rows. The designer has become the unofficial outfitter of the internet’s favourite dreamboats – think Heartstopper’s Kit Connor and Joe Locke, both of whom, like Bailey, have worn Loewe’s powder-blue sequined polo. Tonight, though, the Spanish house’s tailoring takes centre stage. “It’s stunning,” said the actor of his look. “It celebrates a sort of classic Old Hollywood minimalism, but then right at the front and centre is innovative design.”
Working with Anderson and his team over the past few months felt “organic and natural”, said Bailey. “It’s amazing to understand how someone like Jonathan works, to see how he’s inspired by art, but also [to work with] Loewe, as a fashion house that really prioritises craftsmanship. It’s really exciting: today feels very much like I’m a canvas for other people’s work – I’m taking a back seat!”
This is Bailey’s second Met Gala, so he has some experience of the famously intense red carpet. “Everyone talks about waiting to go on the red carpet – fashion purgatory,” he recalled of his first time at the ball. “But by chance I was in such a lovely little group of people that I knew, so it was actually quite relaxing.” One of those people was his Wicked co-star Michelle Yeoh. “That year I went straight from the after-parties to my flight [to resume filming], and the next day Michelle and I were sat next to each other in the make-up trailer. That was a whirlwind.”

just wanted to let you know I am an icu registered nurse from nyc. I love your style so much and made a tumblr again like I did back in hs just so I can have the best fashion inspirations and I do the same on Pinterest. I literally dress up coquette/girly pop Y2K/romantic cottage core on my days off from wearing scrubbies. I really admire how much you have been become your own person, own it and have grown as an individual. Here’s some fashion related questions I wanted to ask you: #1) Favorite brand for purses?
#2) if you could wear 1 brand only for a year which brand would it be? #3) which material of clothing is your favorite? For me I am trying to buy more cotton dresses as opposed to polyester for summer so I don’t have to feel like I need to change 10 min after going out in the heat? Hby?
#4) favorite runway fashion show? example could be Chanel’s 1994 runway show for winter or Prada show in 2001 summer
#5)I sell on poshmark and have been for years and it is my go to for shopping too! Do you shop on there also or do you prefer depop?
#6)I am trying to not incorporate jeans anymore into my fashion I literally only wear dresses, skirts or pants that are like trouser/casual work style or linen pants or hosieries with my skirts. How do you incorporate jeans that can still have that coquette/romantic style?
Thank you if you do answer my questions btw! :) 💕
Why thank you my cheeky nurse friend!
1) Delvaux for everyday wear ( fun fact they are the oldest luxury brand in the world! followed closely by Hermes and Loewe)
But I also collect 2000’s Miu Miu purses, they are much more fun and youthful than the bags they produce now!
2) this includes vintage right? so I would chose Miuccia Prada( that covers Miu Miu and Prada after she took over) all the vintage nylon pieces, Prada sport and 2000’s Miu Miu.
3) I prefer natural fibers.
4) I couldn’t choose ever? But probably something early Margiela, the show that he introduced the tabbies. He put wet paint on the bottom of the shoes to walk on a solid white runway and leave behind the split toe print on the cat walk. Iconic moment. He was a great mind.
5) Depop the most, but I use all the resale apps, and I thrift in every city/country I go to.
6) I hate jeans and always have haha. They are uncomfortable and they ruin the outfit. I recently found these capris on Depop with bleached prints on them. They are flattering and girly. Here’s a pic:

Paris Fashion Week 23' Debrief
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
From left to right, top row followed by bottom, I have selected my four favorite looks after reviewing those who showed for Paris Fashion Week 23'.
Look one: Issey Miyake Spring 2024 RTW (Look 20) by Satoshi Kondo
This is something I would wear everyday if I could. An iconic Japanese silhouette, with a long top or dress reaching a mid thigh, either paired with a wide leg trouser or straight tailored long skirt. I also adore asymmetrical sleeves and ruching around the hips, providing the body contour and definition.
Collection Notes: Aside from this look, the whole collection was so special and meaningful after the passing of Miyake just last summer. It was an homage to Miyake's iconic Spring 1998, beginning as a quite literal, almost replication of some of the gowns. 98' was unforgettable; it was as if the models were trying to escape the sheer veiled gowns they were clothed in, posing with their limbs and faces completely covered and restricted. Kondo could not have delivered a more beautiful and timely tribute.
Look two: Marni Spring 2024 RTW (Look 14) by Francesco Risso
I will always fall head over heels for a mini dress that has a fit and cut like this. In some ways, this look reminds me of early Prada, simple girly (yet chic) silhouettes and plaid motifs, but what's new is the mini v-neck, giving a sporty edge. If you look closely at the shoes, you'll see a white leather ballet flat with embossed ribbon-style bows, which obviously I want on my feet right now. This entire look. Right now. As for the rest of the collection? A total skip.
Look three: Loewe Spring 2024 RTW (Look 21) by Jonathan Anderson
The more I look at this, the more I drool over an asymmetrical tutu-skirt paired with a cherry-red plaid collared shirt. Not to mention a cashmere (I'm guessing) moss green sweater tying a fresh and exciting color palette together. The mules, I can skip. Same with the bag, I'm all good. Not to say both are not showing Loewe though, or speaking to Jonathan Anderson's very specific design language. I liked every variation of this look.
Collection notes: Super high-waisted trousers were also a sight to see, paired with the same buttoned-to-the-top collared shirts. The collection wasn't loose or relaxed in anyway, however, it also wasn't uptight, despite blazers with pockets in restraining positions and large-knit sweaters missing armholes. There were even gold belts made out of nails, going through leather shorts, and yet somehow, Anderson creates equilibrium between the slouchy and over-refined.
Look four: Prada Spring 2024 RTW (Look 37) by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simmons
Out of about five favorites, I decided on this look because I believe it best encompasses something I would choose to put on, and includes my favorite highlight from the show; fringe. It's not just fringe though. Its beaded fringe, and in other parts of the collection metallic and printed fringe, even fringe to create collars on shirts! The choice of throwing a clunky leather jacket over is just good juxtaposition, matched with black patent leather pumps. Get this look on somebody cool now.
Collection Notes: My personal highlights were specifically shoulder draping, eclectic fringe (as mentioned,) fluffy pastel layered mesh, and classic Prada embellishments such as punched-out metal holes in various sizes. There were however a few floral patterns I absolutely despised, so it turns out, perhaps, Prada can do some wrong? Or perhaps Miuccia can, because Miu Miu 2024 RTW was absolutely horrendous.
Thanks xx

Interview with Style Magazine (2024)
Tumblr media
British actor Jonathan Bailey became a hot commodity after the smash success of Netflix romance drama Bridgerton, the early 19th-century Regency-era series that catapulted him and his fellow cast members from obscurity into household names when it debuted in 2020.
While most people know him as his character Lord Anthony, aka Viscount Bridgerton, it’s his role in American drama series Fellow Travelers that cemented his status as a bona fide leading man and truly revealed his acting chops.
Bailey’s searing portrayal of a gay activist alongside Matt Bomer in the Showtime series has won Bailey a Critics’ Choice Award and plenty of accolades, from the LGBTQ+ community – Bailey is openly gay – and beyond.
Spanning almost five decades, from the Lavender Scare and McCarthyism of the 50s to the heartbreaking Aids crisis of the 80s, shown through the lives of two male lovers, the mini series is a beautiful love story as well as a remarkable history lesson. (The Lavender Scare was a mass dismissal of homosexuals from government institutions that paralleled the anti-communist campaign of senator Joseph McCarthy.)
Bailey, who is getting ready to embark on the promotional tour of Bridgerton season three, which debuts in May and June in two parts, was recently in Shanghai for the opening of “Crafted World”, an exhibition held by Spanish luxury label Loewe to showcase its history and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of creative director Jonathan Anderson, a fellow Brit and friend of Bailey’s.
On the night of the opening event, after Anderson gave Bailey a tour of the exhibition, we managed to grab the actor for a very quick chat.
Clad in a striped nautical jumper paired with army green trousers and paint-splattered shoes, all from Loewe, Bailey was extremely friendly and excited to share this moment with Anderson and the Loewe family.
Tell me about this trip to China.
It’s my first time here and I’m really upset to leave so soon. I managed to tour Shanghai today and you can just feel inspired being in the city.
What did you like the most about the exhibition?
Jonathan [Anderson]’s eye for collaboration is just next level. I’ve known him for a while and going back to see all his outfits in one room is like a montage of the last 10 years. My first Loewe show was in 2022, and I think his humble approach to understanding craft and collaboration, as well as what it really means to make something with your hands in a very fundamental way, is something that he stays true to. This adds a very special, celebratory and nourishing quality within Loewe as a brand.
Finally, how did it feel to work on a project like Fellow Travelers?
It’s something I’ll be eternally proud of. It’s such an important story; I learned so much. You sort of feel guilty and ashamed that you don’t know about that history. Then you remember that it’s been left out of the history books and, if you can through your work, you can shine a light on stories that haven’t been told and mean so much to so many people.
