quick thoughts on the lakeside fight in episode 25:
this scene and this episode in general are where we start to see parts of di feisheng, as he stands in the jinyuan alliance, bleed back into a-fei. imo it starts just before the liansanjiao come to the lake; that sequence begins with the three of them walking along the path, and a-fei is carrying his blade in his hand. as far as i can remember and according to the screenshot evidence i have, whenever di feisheng is in disguise as a-fei he always, always carries his blade strapped to his back. this is the first time we see a-fei deviate from that, and the only time di feisheng ever holds his blade like this is when he's travelling as di-mengzhu, in more formal robes. there's little habits of di feisheng beginning to return to a-fei, slowly.
then, we get to the actual fight. a-fei's only memory of fighting as di feisheng that he has at this point is the glimpse of him on the road in episode 23, taking people down with one stroke of his blade. in the two flashbacks he's experienced, this one mentioned and his childhood memory, he was killing with little to no hesitation.
that's very pointedly not what a-fei does here. in contrast to the lull in action we get to highlight fang duobing cutting someone's throat with a smirk, a-fei is only striking and blocking people with his scabbard or by kicking/punching. he never draws his blade. the windy poplar technique, too, only pushes people away from him. it most likely wasn't fatal.
all a-fei remembers from before is killing. he's making a deliberate choice now not to, even when others around him on both sides are.
a moment later, a-fei's confrontation with xue gong shakes loose a memory of di feisheng before the jinyuan alliance, and this is the first he's told that he led the people a-fei currently considers his enemy. from then on the division between a-fei and di feisheng is broken, and all anyone can hope for is that the recovery of his memories will go as smoothly as it can. but there's enough that a-fei has experienced now that he won't, and i don't think he can, just snap back to his old self. he's made choices as a-fei that he won't shake off easily in the future and i think this is where that permanent change has noticeably begun to show.
Oh the fallout is going to be bad and it's going to blow up in Li Lian Hua's face. Fang Duo Bing really said tell me if you've been lying, if you're really Li Xiang Yi, and I won't be mad, and Li Lian Hua didn't take him on it. He'd better get ready for shit to hit the fan later since he didn't take that chance.
I don’t think every character has to be de-aged to be young and beautiful because it feels a little superficial and unnecessary, but I think it is very funny in the case of New Gods: Yang Jian, which is looking to be a reimagined Lotus Lantern where instead of this seasoned, middle-aged behemoth of a war god who ruthlessly strikes down Chen Xiang’s mother, Yang Jian is characterised to have, through no effort on his part, become an exceptionally young Uncle.
He looks like a guy who joined the celestial army at age 18 and had a very promising military career in which he completely sold out his personal values to conform to heavenly order, so much that he accepted orders to apprehend his sister for the crime of ‘queer’ love: human-celestial marriage. Which he obviously regretted sooooo much he QUIT his impressively high climbing celestial rank to. Jump in a campervan with his dog and his army buddies and take poorly paid freelance work and live like a homeless vagabond getting ptsd flashbacks about his bad choices and sister he put in the celestial mountain complex. Also, the altercation with his sister blinded his third eye, the Tian-Yian, the Heaven Eye/ Sky Eye, making him unable to use his godly powers; he’s a disabled veteran who nonetheless did terrible things while on duty, and wishes he could take it back, but clearly cannot because what’s done is done in the heavenly system, he made his bed, now he must lie in it.
But then he finds his homeless, vanless KID NEPHEW---
Fang Duobing is finally starting to get a clue and suspect that Li Lianhua is really Li Xiangyi. Of course LXY denies everything, but I don’t think it will be long before the truth is out.
i missed lunar new year bc i moved house and had 6 weeks of no internet :( now am replaying old story chapters n pointedly ignoring all of SotO i have not played :)
Following on from the simple modesty of the 1300s, female hair in the 1400s became a lot more elaborate thanks to the addition of hair pieces, ribbon and other decorations. Braided styles evolved into very detailed and decorative concoctions. Styles also became more flowy and romantic, often with curls framing the face. CC links under the cut.

Now that both Lan Zhan and Jiang Cheng are frozen in place and staring at him like idiots, Wei Wuxian takes a step back levels a stern look at them, hoping that neither of them can tell that he'd been crying. "If you're quite done? I should send both of you to bed without supper. What were you thinking?"
Jiang Cheng says nothing, instead just staring at her in a way that's honestly a little unnerving.
He rounds onto Lan Xichen to get away from it, "And you! Just standing by and watching! What are all of you thinking? We're in the middle of an inter-clan nighthunt and banquet! Not even the middle! It's just begun and you're causing trouble."
He's scolding someone for getting into a fight at an inoportune time. Something has gone terribly wrong.
Oh, right. He's pregnant with Lan Zhan's baby. He's pregnant with a baby that Lan Zhan doesn't want. Everything is terrible and wrong.
No, he can't think like that. It's not fair to Lan Zhan.
"Come back with me to Lotus Pier," Jiang Cheng says abruptly, still with that strange look on his face. "I told you to believe in Lan Wangji and he's made a liar out of me." Both Lan brothers look startled at that. Jin Guangyao even raises an eyebrow. "The Jiang will take care of you. Have the child, don't, it doesn't matter. I said you'd be safe and you will be."
Oh, Jiang Cheng.
His heart seizes. His honorable, idiotic little brother. He wishes he could go over there and ruffle his hair and kiss his cheeks. "It's alright, Jiang Cheng. It's - it's not a problem. If Wangji does not want the child, we will not have the child. It's fine."
He feels like he's going to throw up and he hasn't even eaten anything.
"What?"
He turns, confused, to Lan Zhan who's looking at him in confusion and horror.
Wei Wuxian's eyebrows dip together and he echoes, "What?"
