This is part two of the 1810s female lookbook, you can find part one here.
Carrying over into the 1810s, mourning dress was still very important in Regency society. Full black outfits were worn for the first six weeks after a death, after which a period of half mourning allowed the introduction of white, grey and lavender into ensembles. Even accessories such as gloves, hosiery and jewellery were expected to stick to these stringent etiquette rules.
When it came to occupations, it was very rare for middle and upper class women to be employed. Many positions that women could work in were looked down upon by high society and it was the expectation that a "decent" woman's highest accomplishment was marriage. Working and lower middle class women were not afforded this luxury, with many of them going into service positions such as maids and cooks. They could also be employed as factory workers, barmaids and seamstresses. CC links under the cut.

When it came to being bold and bombastic, the 1980s was the decade all about excess. Bridal fashions reflected the opulence encouraged by the super consumeristic atmosphere of the time. Puffy sleeves, lavish amounts of lace, voluminous skirts, big shoulders and even bigger hair typified 80s bridal style. The ultimate goal was to achieve an over-the-top princess fantasy, inspired in part by the real life royal wedding of Princess Diana in 1981.
The overarching theme was one of grandiosity and extravagance, with a focus on making a statement and a bride taking centre stage. This extended past just the gown and into accessories, with veils and headpieces reaching excessive proportions. These sat atop quaffs that gained extreme heights thanks to vigorous teasing and generous amounts of hairspray.
Bridesmaid dresses were equally defined by the era's maximalist attitude. Puffy sleeves, big bows and bubble skirts were typically made from taffeta in a range of pastel hues. Following the trend set by Princess Diana, it became common for bridesmaids to wear stylistically similar versions of the bride's dress, often in a slightly more subtle form. The 1970s was an eclectic decade when it came to fashion and much like modern day, was very trend driven. One popular aesthetic of the time was the Edwardian revival, which saw modest necklines, full sleeves and copious lace find their way back into bridal fashions. The dreamy style was part of the romanticised ideal of a life in the country, which made it the perfect fit for a bride that wanted to create a soft, down-to-earth ensemble.
Not all of 70s style was quite so earthy however. In fact, man-made fibres were so pervasive that it came to be known as the 'Polyester Decade'. This resulted in an abundance of vintage influenced styles mass produced in garish fabrics, colours and trims. Take a look back at any wedding photo from this period and the gowns seem decidedly stiff, shiny and artificial.
Romantic fashion extended to bridesmaids, with hems now reaching the floor again. The longer silhouette, as well as the looser fit of the bodice and sleeves, reflected the more relaxed nature of 1970s style. Colour choices were either bold and vibrant, or soft and earthy. Big hats were back in vogue, usually in a colour that matched or coordinated with a maid's dress. CC links and reference images under the cut.

I was wondering if you know of any hair bows that would work for the early 20th c? Most I’ve found are headbands, part of a hairstyle, or small and dainty which don’t satisfy my need for the massive bows teen girls were wearing back then!
Tumblr media
"Edwardian hair bows" is like my sleeper agent code phrase 😆 I hope I've rounded up a nice selection for you. I did include some daintier options for the players out there who want something a bit more subtle (can't relate). All the bows featured work on teens as well as adults. CC links under the cut.

The 1960s was a decade with a huge variety of fashion styles throughout its ten years - everything from the 1950s influenced silhouettes in the early 60s, to streamline mod fashion and the romantic medieval revival. One notable icon of the decade is, of course, the mini dress. The daring new garment wasn't just relegated to fashion forward women, as it quickly permeated into everyday outfits and by extension, wedding style. Modern brides cast aside traditional floor length gowns and long trains in favour of the new, free-spirited silhouette.
That wasn't to say long dresses went completely out of vogue. As the medieval revival fad grew in popularity, its influence in the bridal world was obvious. Gowns with high empire waists and billowing princess sleeves dominated wedding fashion, and paired perfectly with bouffant hairdos to create a truly unique style that captured the spirit of the 1960s. The floral of choice was the daisy and it could be seen in the bouquet, modelled into jewellery and even adorning hair.
For the 60s bridesmaid colour was all the rage. While pastels were still a popular choice, the bold colours of everyday fashion, such as bubblegum pink and vibrant teal, carried over into maid gowns. Colour blocking grew in popularity, thanks in large part to the mod craze sweeping the fashion world. Bridesmaid dresses could feature a top and skirt in two different yet still coordinated colours, which created a striking look for the bridal party. CC links and reference images under the cut.

This is part one of the 1810s female lookbook, you can find part two here.
While neo-classical style carried over from the previous decade, the 1810s saw an interruption to the clean and streamline silhouette of female fashion. The once pure line of a dress was now broken by increasingly excessive trims. Tubular skirts evolved into angled, triangular shaped garments and hems began to rise away from the floor. This new style of skirt was gathered at the back and the fullness was emphasised by the wearing of a bustle pad. The increasing cultural influence of romanticism was most evident in the growing fullness of sleeves. Gone were the soft sleeves of the previous decade and in their place came the exaggerated puff, the precursor to the ginormous gigot sleeve that would come into fashion in the 1820s.
The colour palette veered away from the light and pale fashions of the early 1800s and into one decidedly brighter and saturated. Textiles became more diverse, with firmer cottons and silks supplanting the draping fine muslins of the previous years. Overall, the easy fluidity of the early 1800s was replaced with a stiffer silhouette.
The Napoleonic Wars played a significant role in the development of clothing. Thanks to campaigns in places like Prussia and Poland, there was now an influx of fur in women's ensembles. Paris was the leading fashion capital and France in general influenced clothing around the world. One of the most notable icons of this French style influence was Joséphine Bonaparte. As wife of the self-proclaimed emperor, she was the undisputed leader of fashion during the early 19th century. Her every action and nuance of appearance were followed eagerly by newspapers and journals in France and abroad. Fashion-conscious women idolised her and attempted to copy her enviable style, which included luxurious Kashmiri shawls and the era-defining high waistline. CC links under the cut.

Did you know I'm on Pinterest?
When I'm gathering custom content for lookbooks or collections I always find way more than I can use in any given post. Other times some great CC is released after I've created a lookbook it could have been included in. So what do I do with all these excess finds? Well, that's where my Pinterest comes in! There you'll find HEAPS of Sims 4 CAS custom content, organised by either century or decade. I've also got boards for reference, which are packed full of research images for each time period.
Tumblr media
Some boards may not be fully populated at the moment, but that is because they'll be coming up soon in my Ultimate Decades Timeline series. I'm always adding more and more to my boards, so it's worth a follow if you're into historical or decades game play.

As brides exited the war time era of the 1940s they once again looked to the glamour of Hollywood and taste-making fashion designers for wedding inspiration. Department store bridal salons debuted the latest runway gowns, veils and floral arrangements. After the austerity of war time, weddings were now a high fashion affair.
Thanks to manufacturing improvements wedding dresses were now being offered “off the rack”, and even though they were made from cheaper synthetic materials they looked just as expensive as the real thing. A sweetheart neckline, small waist and full skirt was the classic wedding gown silhouette for most of the 1950s. Skirts could range from floor length for the traditionalists to just below the knee for the more modern bride. Veils shortened and were often accessorised with a hat or florals.
Department stores now also had dedicated areas for bridesmaid fashions. Attendant dresses reflected the elegant, feminine and shape conscious style of the time, and a pastel colour palette still reigned supreme. While bridal dresses ranged in length, it was more common to see bridesmaids wear a shorter gown. This was typically accented with a headpiece and sometimes even a mini veil. this isn’t a cc request but I was just wondering if you’re still working on that 70s save? I’m so invested in it and love it!

Talk about a blast from the past...quite literally! While I really enjoyed working on That 70s Save and it's amazing to hear people such as yourself appreciated it, it just became way too time consuming. I'd love to jump back into it one day, but it probably won't be in the immediate future.

Headwear was an intrinsic part of Regency women's fashion and as the decade progressed they became more and more ostentatious. The Napoleonic Wars brought the styles of faraway places home to influence clothing and accessories. This is most evident in the growing trend of turbans, which added an exotic topper to evening ensembles. For day wear, caps added modesty to a woman's wardrobe and protected their curled hairstyles until the afternoon and evening. Bonnets were hugely popular and came in a wide range of styles. Trimmings were excessive and outlandish, and could include feathers, ribbons, frills and flowers.
Simple and dainty was the preferred choice for jewellery, often modelled after classical Greek and Roman pieces. And it wasn't just constrained to the body, as bejewelled accessories were used to accent increasingly intricate hairstyles. CC links and reference images under the cut.

The 1940s was a decade defined by war and bridal fashions reflected as such. Gone were the sleek gowns inspired by the glamour of the silver screen of the previous decade, instead it was quite common for the entire wedding party to simply wear their best dress or suit. Some brides chose to make a new dress for the occasion, with a color and design that would make it wearable again after the wedding. Wearing the dress of their mother, family member or close friend was another popular option.
Silk and satin were not available as fabric choices during the war, so gowns could be made from rayon, crepe and taffeta instead. After the war white silk parachutes were released for sale back to the public and quickly became a choice material for wedding dresses and bridal lingerie. Gowns were quite simple as trimmings such as lace and tulle were very expensive and not justifiable during such an economically restrictive period.
Bridesmaid dresses were similarly affected by wartime constraints, with the practical choice being a dress that was wearable after the wedding. Light colours and floral prints were the most popular. Just as they were with women's everyday fashion, hats and gloves were common finishing touches to an attendant's ensemble. CC links and reference images under the cut.

As promised in this Friday Finds post from back in May, today I'm bringing you a fun selection of geeky cosplays to coincide with San Diego Comic Con. When I found out about cosplay in my late teens I was already a deeply nerdy costume and pop culture lover, so it was very much like finding my people. And here's a fun bit of Simline lore - I once even owned my own cosplay business! There's such a fun variety of characters that fans cosplay as, but I've put together what I hope is a good range of some of the most popular costumes. CC links under the cut.

I was recently working on a geeky lookbook and could not find a good 90s era Rogue hair, so naturally I had to make my own. This amazingly bombastic hair by @ice-creamforbreakfast was so perfect, all that was missing were Rogue's iconic white streaks.

For those of you who have been following along with my zodiac series you'll know the initial inspiration was 1920s/30s vintage fantasy based on the artwork of Erté. In all honesty, I haven't really been enjoying putting these lookbooks together for a while now. Anytime I sat down to put one together it felt more like work rather than the creative outlet my content usually is. It wasn't until I recently put my Enchanted by Nature inspired lookbook together that I realised I really enjoy indulging my love for high fantasy, so I've decided to change direction for the zodiac series. I'll leave the existing lookbooks for Aries, Taurus and Gemini up, and I'll circle back to them once we reach those months again. I hope you guys don't mind the change and that you enjoy the new lookbooks going forward. Now onto today's....
The new zodiac series is heavily inspired by DnD, so I thought it would be fun to assign each sign to a class. Since Cancers are known for their caring, motherly manner it seemed fitting that they would make for an empathetic and sensitive Cleric.

Hi! Do you know any good everyday clothes that women would wear in the 1960’s? A lot of cc clothes just don’t have the fit that was so popular in the 1960’s!! Any help would really be appreciated!💕
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Considering how many 60s lookbooks I've posted to my blog you can imagine my excitement when this request landed in my inbox. As a decade the 1960s has a very stereotypical "look" associated with women's fashion and regular daywear often gets overlooked, so I really enjoyed being able to put together some everyday outfits. I also got the chance to crack open my new book for some great research. CC links under the cut.
