this is just a little domestic blurb, i don't really have titles for things like this or really any fanfic that i write. as i post more that will change as i continue writing and expanding my master list. anyways.
cw; fluff, domestic fluff sort of, lap sitting, reading, books mentioned but not really read, touchy wesker, non-specified romantic relationship, alcohol, alcohol mentions, written under the influence (im going to be honest most things from here on out will probably be written under the influence...)
pet names; dove, dear, my darling (reader receiving)
albert only asks you to sit on his lap after a long day. at home, he'll try to brush off his exhaustion, but you can see it. his shoulders are tense and his posture is slightly slouched. he does try to hide the fact that he gets tired, embarrassed that he's even gotten tired at all. he should be better, right?
he'll take his overcoat off and hang it up by the door as you ask him about his day, and he'll give you the same response as always.
"work was fine, dove." despite his want to tell you everything, he can't. that would jeopardize you, and he simply won't have that. so he compartmentalizes, saves it for later knowing that "later" is never.
he'll sit at the bottom of the steps to remove his shoes as you lean against the dark wooden railing and tell him about your day at work. hearing of your own endeavors makes his heart clench. after all, he's told you time after time that you don't need to work, that he'll take care of the both of you. of course, you want your own safe haven and truthfully, you'd feel out of place without a job or some kind of career, even if you don't need it.
the two of you will eventually find yourselves in the cool atmosphere of your living room. albert would have gotten himself a glass of wine- Louis Latour Beaune Pierreres Primier Cru, aka very expensive Pinot Noir- to sip while he sits and reads. you grab a glass as well, as he'd offered you some when pouring it, and who are you to say no?
he doesn't ask you to sit on his lap, more often than not it's that he'll guide you to when you go to sit down.
"dear," he'll say as you approach the couch, you in a dress shirt you "borrowed" from his closet and comfortable lounge shorts that leave your legs on display, and set his glass of wine aside. he holds out his hand for you to take, which you do because he's trained you well enough by now, and uses his other hand to gently pull you by the hips on to his lap. the action itself makes you melt. you know nothing is expected of you when you're sat on his lap. he enjoys the weight of you, how it makes him feel more human and less distant from reality.
he does, however, want to keep reading, so he always has you sit so your back is against his chest. his chin comes to rest on your shoulder, his arm wrapped around your waist, and he grabs his book once more to continue reading. like a doll, you stay there while sipping your glass of wine, a muted warmth in your chest. his fingers play with the hem of your shirt, slipping under it to feel your warmth. you'd shudder and that would earn you a soft smile. he's hardly paying attention to the book in his hand, instead focusing on the beating of your heart and the soft flesh of your waist. he'll press his face against your neck and inhale slowly, savoring your scent. he'll set his book aside and press you flush with his chest, relaxing back into the couch as he breathes you in.
"bad day?" you'd ask, a soft smile playing at your lips. he presses a kiss to the nape of your neck and hums.
"not anymore, my darling." he says against your neck, his other arm snaking around your waist in a secure grip.
this, this intimacy and ability to let things go, to be able to relax with you, is something he's been missing for a long time. he's never so affectionate, so this is a nice change of pace. you know to savor it, as tomorrow he will return to simply holding your hand, even in the privacy of your own home.

Jockey Club
The building was inaugurated in 1897. The social life of the Jockey Club, during its early years, took place in various rented residences, all located in the central area of the city of Buenos Aires. However, with a constantly growing membership, it was soon decided that the club needed its own building, in line with the increasing prestige it had achieved during its initial stage.
A crucial step was taken in 1888 when a plot of land was acquired on Florida Street, between Lavalle and Tucumán, an excellent location in Buenos Aires at the end of the 19th century. After holding a design competition, the authorities of the Jockey Club decided to immediately begin the construction based on the plans of the Austrian architect Manuel Turner. During the nine-year construction process, the original program was completely modified, and the final design was signed off by the Argentine engineer Emilio Agrelo.
The building's magnificent facade on Florida Street, its impressive reception area, and dramatic staircase; its sumptuous halls, vast armory room, and welcoming dining area; all these elegant features contributed to making the Jockey Club Palace the favorite center of high society in the city from the moment of its inauguration on September 30, 1897. Carlos Pellegrini played a significant role in its furnishings and decoration. He personally took care of the final arrangements of the house, down to the smallest details, with the collaboration of Miguel Cané, who, from Paris, where he served as the Argentine minister, sent luxurious curtains, thick carpets, coat of arms, exquisite crystal chandeliers, and even lanterns for the front of the building.
Over time, the building underwent various modifications. Firstly, several neighboring plots were acquired, allowing for the expansion of the facilities and the construction of an annex building for administrative offices. Successive renovations in 1909 and 1921 adapted the halls to changes in fashion and taste. Moreover, with specialized advice, a valuable art collection was formed, which included paintings signed by Louis-Michel Van Loo, Goya, Bouguereau, Corot, Monet, Sorolla, Anglada Camarasa, Fantin-Latour, Carrière, and Favretto. Alongside artworks by foreign artists, there were numerous works by Argentine masters such as Sívori, Gramajo Gutiérrez, Bermúdez, Quinquela Martín, López Naguil, Fader, Cordiviola, and Aquiles Badi, creating a true art gallery that some Jockey Club members proudly referred to as "our little museum."
Thanks to the luxury of its halls, its magnificent and continuously enriched library, and the prestige of its art collection, the Jockey Club Palace became the privileged setting for aristocratic receptions. It was also the customary place to honor distinguished visitors arriving in Buenos Aires.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You will need the usual CC from Felixandre, SYB, The King Falcon, TGS, among others.
The building is in a 30x30 lot, and works as a coffe shop.
Please let me know if you like it and if you want somenthing built for you!

Do you know if Adrienne was mad at Lafayette for his affairs?
Dear @mxtallmadge,
I think that “mad” is the wrong word and that “disappointed” is a better fit. That being said, there is little to no written record left by Adrienne concerning her husband’s affairs (that I do know of). She was very private in that regard, so everything is either circumstantial evidence or speculation.
When we look at La Fayette’s affairs, there is plenty of discourse with whom, why and when he had an affair. In an early version of his memoirs there are some allusions to his affairs so we can be certain that there were some. The passage was removed form the final version of his memoirs. Anyway, there are two women histories are convinced La Fayette had affairs with - Diane de Simiane and Aglaé, comtesse d'Hunolstein. But even with these two, there are people who argue that an affair never took place.
We will come back to these two, particular Diane de Simiane, but we first have to take in the context of the time to understand how Adrienne must have felt about La Fayette’s affairs. Because the thing is, theirs was an arranged marriage in 18th century France and they were part of the nobility. Affairs were not uncommon, in fact, sometimes not having an affair was more uncommon than having one. That is not to say that these circumstances make it easier, if you love your partner the way Adrienne loved La Fayette. But she probably was not surprised, after all her own father, uncles, the King – they all had affairs. Her father even boasted that his mistress had formerly been the mistress of Louis XV.
Second, Adrienne had never to fear that La Fayette would abandon her. She was his wife, mother of his only four children, there were no illegitimate children. He loved her and although he strayed, he always returned. There was never any sign of contempt, of displeasure with her, there was no talk of a divorce or a separation. In fact, La Fayette refused to remarry after Adrienne’s death. Again, this not necessarily made Adrienne feel better, but she had at least never to worry that La Fayette would not return. For him his affairs seem more like adventures and less like true romantic affairs. La Fayette wrote in his Memoirs (Vol. 1):
I shall spare you also the confession of an unedifying youth, and even of the story of two romances dedicated to beauties who were then very celebrated, in which my head had a larger part than my heart. The first, scarcely begun, broke against the obstacles of jealousy with which I collided head-on. The other-in which I wanted at first to triumph less over the object herself than over a rival-I pursued, despite long interruptions, on every possible occasion. Our relationship went from esteem all the way to the contrary sentiment, and was finally terminated by a catastrophe unconnected with me. It is more pleasant for me to speak of the tender and stable affection that I never cease to feel for the woman whom I had the good fortune to marry.
Idzerda Stanley J. et al., editors, Lafayette in the Age of the American Revolution: Selected Letters and Papers, 1776–1790, Volume 1, December 7, 1776–March 30, 1778, Cornell University Press, 1977, pp. 3-6.
La Fayette’s affairs (that we know of) and also the occasional flirts later in life were mostly marked by being short and very passionate (to the point of being childish.)
Adrienne most likely learned to accept and live with it, knowing that her place was still secured and that La Fayette spend more time with her and the children than with his mistresses.
But I promised you to come back to Aglaé and Diane. In Virginies Memoirs of her mother there is a letter published, written by La Fayette to one of his closest friends (and at that point also his in-law), Latour-Mabourg. The letter was written in January 1808, shortly after Adrienne’s death and gives great detail about Adrienne’s last days. There are two little passages that are interesting in the context of the question:
She [Adrienne] said to Mme de Simiane: “I was going to have a malignant fever, but I shall be well attended to, and shall get the better of it.”
And the second one:
“The last day she [Adrienne] told me: “When you see Mme de Simiane, give her my love.” Thus her heart was all life when her poor limbs were already numbed by approaching death.
Mme de Lasteyrie, Life of Madame de Lafayette, L. Techener, London, 1872, pp. 397-432.
We can see from these accounts that Diane was around Adrienne and the La Fayette’s in general during this time and that Adrienne did not seem to mind. Diane was a friend of the family, she was close to Adrienne’s aunt, Madame de Tessé and probably also to one of Adrienne’s sisters. But Diane was not only with the La Fayette’s during Adrienne’s last days, she also spend some considerable time with the (extended) family during their exile in Danish-Holstein. She most likely was a guest at Anatsasie’s wedding. In the Memoirs of Adrienne’s sister Anne de Noailles, Marquise de Montagu, we can read that:
My translation:
A friend of the Countess Tessé, the Marquise de Simiane, escaped from France with a false passport and protected on her journey by an old Jacobin, a so-called friend of M. de La Fayette; she came to Witmold towards the end of winter [1797/98] and was not a little surprised to hear of nothing but marriage projects [the marriage of La Fayette’s oldest daughter Anastasie with Charles Latour-Maubourg] and a child's baptism [The Marquis de Monatgue, Adrienne’s sister was pregnant] here, where she thought she found the people rather sad.
There is a second paragraph in the same book:
My translation:
Madame de Montague, near her confinement, helped them bind up their mother's glorious wounds; then, when that duty was done, she occupied herself with the dowry, with the housekeeping, and with the manson, walking and humming; “round as a tower”, but tireless. One could not help admiring her and yet laughing at her. Madame de Simiane, who was present, said she would certainly give birth in one of those large cupboards that she opened at every moment.
You see, La Fayette’s affairs, in the context of their time, his behaviour and the reactions of his friends and family are quite nuanced but I hope I could shine some light in the topic. I hope you have/had a great day!

stacks upon stacks of letters. and an email. and another one. and another—all asking the same thing. to get into contact with the secretary's boss. but there are also ones that are addressed to robin. some are stating that they think robin would be an excellent source of any news for business-related updates (read: evelynn's life). the others want to get in touch with robin himself, and they think it would be interesting to see things through his eyes, in the form of an interview of course.
── 𝐔𝐍𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 ── MODERN VERSE
"So the shipment is going to be late, is it?"
"Yes, sir. I do apologize."
"Well it isn't as though it makes any difference, I'll be here rather late tonight regardless - I have a few documents to whittle down; the intern we hired wasn't exactly precise in their organization of the least to most important information they found." With a weary sigh, Robin released a plume of smoke from his lips as he relaxed in his office chair, "Send a reminder to Abel about our meeting tonight too - I want to discuss with him how he wishes to go forward with last week's incident. Honestly, what is Josiah doing allowing all of these idiots into the lower ranks? Fodder or not bullets aren't exactly cheap."
"Yes sir. Do you want me to bring you anything while you work?"
"A sturdy beam and a short rope, maybe a ladder? Ha ~ No, you've done enough for me, Louis. Please just run the Keurig before you leave, thank you."
...
Robin spent hours meticulously organizing the files in front of him, carefully sifting through the seemingly endless piles of paper; half of it was already shredded but it was a mercilessly boring task. The encroaching darkness of his office was sapping his energy to stay awake, but the piercing sound of his phone's ring revived him as he scrambled to lift the receiver to his ear. Robin's tired gaze turned to the ticking clock; 11pm on the dot. Abel's timeliness came as no shock to him; the man was renowned for his reliability after all - at least in Robin's relationship with him. That is when his sight caught onto a printed email directed to him - not the PR department, not the general mailbox's address, but his personal company email. Red alarms sounded in his head for a moment, only one, until Abel's poisonously honeyed voice purred against his ear:
"Good evening, mon petit oiseau. I have prepared some paperwork to be sent to your residence - I imagine it will look like a bow atop that stack you're working on. I'm almost sad you didn't invite me over, I have a beautiful bottle of Latour I've been saving for our next get together."
His eyes narrowed before rolling, about to snippily reply before his eyes traced over a few words at the end of the email:
An interview?
" ━ Are you even listening to me?"
"Yes. I - I apologize. Please, let's discuss our next course of action."
But he was far too distracted now, reading over the relating emails and piecing them together. Surely these were all sent by the same person? They had that same shorthand style throughout - same punctuation, same verbiage. Robin felt the edges of his lips curl with a wicked pull delight, he had to find out who this stranger was. After all he was often entranced by the lengths people would be willing to go but ... It had been a while since anyone had sought him out for an interview, he had done a considerable amount of work to disappear from the public eye. Heh - did he have a stalker?
Well. Now he just needed to pick a date and time.
