we all should agree that he’s character is just a large waste of potential and, oh lord, I have so much to say that I don’t even know where to begin…

first of all why his writing is so poor? almost random I must say. he’s a person who just happens to be in all places at all times, making a conflicts happen for no particular reason EVEN WHEN THEY DOES NOT MAKE SENSE FOR HIS CHARACTER. for example in season 2 he runs “the sphere” himself (even if he obviously doesn’t have a basic knowledge of how to do that, I mean why should he) and writers saying that his interest in it is money?.. like wtf why should he care? why should he wants a dirty money like that, if he’s a freaking football SUPERSTAR. he have reputation, you know what I mean? and he never actually appeared to care that much about his finances, even in 1st season when he steals m-ice’s football tickets they never let us know why he does that. if he wanted some easy cash, why wouldn’t steal some cash? so this thing must’ve been something personal, isn’t it? instead he steals those tickets, that are obviously shit and everybody knows that. sinedd could never manage to sold them, because even m-ice couldn’t, so he promises to return them next morning. my point is that sinedd could never risk that much doing something obviously illegal like running a freaking fight club without strong motivation. and even if he needs money THAT bad, why they didn’t show us WHY.

all his 3rd season arc is a complete nonsense: why they ended up with mei? how did they started to date? for what reason? hating d’jok? is that even a reason? I wish I could forget this poorly written “family reunion arc” who just happened to not know that their son is a freaking football SUPERSTAR. and then he all suddenly changes for the “good guys” and makes up with d’jok who was bullying him for years. unbelievable. and, can you remind me why they became enemies in the first place? ah, you can’t! because they never showed us WHY.

I would absolutely love if he just makes a bit more sense in the show, and stop being stupid for now reason and explanation. I LOVE the part when he’s having a break down because his parents died in a war, and it’s still painful for him, even after so many years. this is very important message that writers could put in this character: some things just can’t be undone, but you need to let it go, so YOU can move on yourself. but sinned can’t, and this is his real conflict, not that he just needs some stupid money. he can’t live with his past, can’t accept that and as a result he can’t accept himself and how great he’s doing. he’s an orphan that become a football freaking SUPERSTAR. he’s a talented player, a genius in some way, that have mastered 2 fluxes in record time. he made it to final and semi-final of GF. but no matter what he achieved when he still hates himself so much. he’s worst than d’jock. he have no family or friends. he can’t get this freakin cup. and he can’t even destroy it, because he’s a coward and he loses his flux…

I wish we could see this side of him in the show.

2nd season was the perfect time to show us his lowest point of life. he was destroyed by his loss in 1st season so now he’s depressed. maybe he meets a bad company, and he starts to run “the sphere” with someone who claims to be his friend. they obviously using him, but he’s following them anyway, because he can’t stay alone with his thoughts anymore. he trying to fill this emptiness in a different ways, and that’s doesn’t help. obviously. and that’s when he meets rokket. not like they never met before, but in a new context, where they started spending lots of time together, both depressed and having good/bad time together. they get to know each other and open from a new side. they gain some sort of connection because they are compatible, they understand each others trauma and for the first time in his life, sinedd faces true understanding. then rokket quits, and it feels like betrayal, but the true betrayal only comes when he realises the truth about his “new friend” and “the sphere”

and then he loses cup again. guys this is the real drama here, he should’ve been perished by that…

but.

instead he understands that he NEEDS to change. he NEEDS to get some help, because he can’t live like this anymore, and really, he don’t want to. that’s why he’s coming back to rokket after final, to congratulate him with his victory and apologise. for the first time in his entire life. if he can change it, it means that sinedd can too! (and rokket is literally the best person to help him with that, because how much empathy and patience he has). and then all the 3rd season sinedd, step by step, trying to change from what he was, but not everyone believes in that, because how much bad he did. but he will do it, by working hard on himself, and not just suddenly getting what he wanted for all of his life (actually that was only mentioned once)

I changed his hair colour not only because it looks more cyber-y2k-ish, but to the show how unnatural he is in the beginning, and how he’s doing all this way to who he really is, accepting himself. no friendship with d’jok tho, NOW ROKKET IS OUR BEST FRIEND. I don’t want him to make up with d’jok, I want him to let go this childish rivalry and understand that he’s not worse or better, he’s just another. that’s it.

The unmade PUSS IN BOOTS sequel...

In an alternate timeline, the 2nd PUSS IN BOOTS movie would've been released during the holiday season of 2018... It would've been a significantly different movie, too.

It would not have been directed by Joel Crawford, but rather Chris Miller, who directed the first PUSS IN BOOTS movie, and SHREK THE THIRD as well. He's not *that* Chris Miller of the Phil Lord-Chris Miller duo, but a long-time DreamWorks Animation veteran whose work goes all the way back to their debut feature ANTZ.

The title was PUSS IN BOOTS: NINE LIVES & 40 THIEVES.

It had, you may have guessed it, a 1001 Arabian Nights setting.

The concept art for this picture suggested something pretty damn cool. I absolutely love PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH, in fact it is my favorite film in the entire SHREK franchise and just a new favorite movie of mine, period.

But... I'm not gonna lie, I would really love to see what *this* movie would've been like. I'm sure it would've had a tone and directing style similar to that of the first PUSS IN BOOTS, and the visual style for it would've been about the same: Much more hyper-detailed with ornate textures everywhere (look at Puss' sword in that movie and the other SHREKs, and look at his much simplified sword in THE LAST WISH), no framerate fluctuations, etc.

The SHREK series had often covered European fairy tales, and the first PUSS IN BOOTS movie married such fairy tales like Jack and the Beanstalk, and the Golden Goose, to a more old-school adventure genre: Think Zorro, Three Musketeers, etc. Threw in spaghetti westerns for good measure. It was a sandier side of the SHREK world, deserts, and Spanish and Latin American-inspired towns. THE LAST WISH retains all of that, the magical "Dark Forest" being not too far removed from the European fairy tale aesthetic. That whole storybook-inspired look they were going for put it firmly in the European fairy tale, I feel. Again, best of both worlds... But there's other worlds, right?

NINE LIVES & 40 THIEVES would've taken us more East, and I'd really love to see that in the fairy tale universe of SHREK. Who's to say they can't... take that idea off the shelf again? After all, THE LAST WISH ends with a direct lead-in to a fifth SHREK movie. Perhaps SHREK 5 can incorporate the Arabian Nights setting? Or a third PUSS IN BOOTS movie where we only follow "Team Friendship" on a new adventure?

About that... Very few Western animated movies spawn ongoing spin-off feature film series. DESPICABLE ME scored with the MINIONS movie in 2015, and that got an equally ginormous sequel this past summer. That was the inverse of LIGHTYEAR to the TOY STORY franchise, LIGHTYEAR could've been a big hit and could've spawned more space adventures with the human/actual space ranger Buzz... But alas, no cigar. (I'm honestly bummed about that, I was ready for more!) THE LEGO MOVIE tried to do this, but I feel Warner Bros. made the mistake of having the studio make two spin-off movies - unrelated to one another, LEGO BATMAN and LEGO NINJAGO - *before* THE LEGO MOVIE 2 proper. Maybe if LEGO MOVIE 2 opened in 2017 as originally planned, with BATMAN and NINJAGO afterwards, we could've had plenty of different theatrical LEGO stories to choose from. DreamWorks' own MADAGASCAR franchise couldn't have a side series of PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR movies, the first one - released back in 2014 - was deemed a box office disappointment. Its "flopping" actually lead to a big restructuring month at DreamWorks, which took NINE LIVES & 40 THIEVES off their schedule...

It was very possible that the movie was no more, much like other DreamWorks pictures that got the axe at the time: BOLLYWOOD SUPERSTAR MONKEY, B.O.O.: BUREAU OF OTHERWORLDLY OPERATIONS, etc. Thankfully, PUSS Dos remained in limbo rather than being outright cancelled.

But NINE LIVES & 40 THIEVES didn't make it, we got THE LAST WISH instead.

But now... THE LAST WISH has been a leggy box office success, a record-breaking one at that, too. It's actually the first post-1999 wide-release animated movie since THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE to make more than 10x its opening weekend gross... EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE came out in 2000... So that makes **two**, **two** animated movies released in the domestic market since 1999 that scored 10x their opening weekend grosses... WOW!

So yes, I'd imagine the PUSS IN BOOTS train won't be stopping. I think it's a strong possibility that we get *both* new SHREK sequels *and* new PUSS IN BOOTS sequels. Puss showed with both movies that he can more than hold his own and have his own long-form adventures w/ Kitty Softpaws and Perrito. The original made over $500m worldwide back in 2011/12, and was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars much like this film, which looks to finish up with over $450m worldwide. Hey, is it possible somebody else gets a new movie, too? I feel there's a lot of ground to cover in Shrek's fairy tale world that goes beyond Shrek's swamp, Far Far Away, San Ricardo, Del Mar, the lands inbetween, etc.... A magic carpet that's reminiscent of the one in most ALADDIN interpretations appears in THE LAST WISH as part of Big Jack Horner's collection, so maybe that Arabian Nights-style world is still out there and might be featured in a future SHREK/PUSS IN BOOTS movie?

I'd love to see that, honestly. Since the world of SHREK is back in business, I say go explore and expand that world!

“Love Live! Superstar!!” For Gets Third Anime Season

The 12th and final episode is "Love Live! Superstar!" A third season of the television anime 2nd Season was announced, according to a promo.

bit of a hmm one. Nothing really wrong with it, and everything it cares about it’s fine at, but it doesn’t really do that much it felt like. I suppose I’d still call it the good side of Love Live quality, but just at the bottom end of that scale. Better than what some prior episodes have been offering anyway, though not as good as episode 9. I will cautiously count this as still riding the good quality train towards the end anyway. And hey getting 2 new songs in one episode was nice. I think Superstar s2 is probs already on track to having the most performances in a second Love Live season, and probably 2nd most overall behind Niji s1. Fair enough really lol.

Ongoing Series - Thai

Deep Night (Thurs iQiyi) ep 7 of 8 - Love that they’re addressing being outed (not as gay but) as sex workers. Interesting twist, more classism than homophobia. The sides are FUCKING ADORABLE. Also we asked for a 3some and they sure as shit gave us one, dream sequence or not. Plus baby likes the idea. Everyone say "thank you Thailand." Bonus more lesbians and a lovely mother-son core relationship. I’m feeling spoiled by this show. 

Two Worlds (Thurs IQIYI) ep 6 of 10 - Love that we got the 2nd world romance at laso. I do like how well MaxNat do tenderness. I would call it their forte. Also if you love that picture perfect yaoi size-difference, its this pair more than most others. Max TOWERS over Nat and he's about 2x his weight.

City of Stars (Fri iQIYI) ep 12fin - It’s cute. They're cute. It was a lovely ending. 

Summation:

A solid little pulp about a closeted actor who falls for his nerdy next door neighbor and has to come out. Makes up for in earnestness and good will what it lacks in acting ability and chemistry. 7/10 

To Be Continued (Sat C3 Thailand grey) - I kind of love that the break up was miscommunication but all around a shitty first time, so common to many of us. And being too young to talk properly, or know what they wanted and needed from each other, for each other, or with each other.

Sure it was miscommunication but at least they were honest about it.

Achi was genuinely an asshole and I understand Ji's extreme bitterness now - his heart was broken because the friendship fractured and he was abandoned. Then the good kind of time lapse. All in all I quite enjoyed the last few episodes of the show. Mostly because it was better than The Promise. Which doesn’t take much. Still, by comparison I can only give it a relatively good grade (for a not re-watchable difficult to find pulp).

Summation:

A bittersweet reunion romance about a doctor and the superstar who abandoned him in high school, their reconciliation, and the enduring pain of first love. Including the, erm, actual pain of a first time. The honesty of the miscommunication in this pulp and the intimacy scenes elevates it, but not much more than that. 7/10

1000 Years Old (Thurs iQIYI) ep 10 of 12 -  They are too cute, with their little promised to die together. I’m still finding the majority of the show very boring, but I can’t discount the sweetness of the couple. Demanding vampire boyfriend is demanding.

Close Friend Season 3: Soju Bomb! (Weds iQIYI) - Finished and rumor is, it never improved and wasn't really BL.

Unknown (Taiwan Tues YouTube & Viki) ep 9 of 12 - I do love this show. How is it, in one episode, more gangster than all of KP or Kiseki? It was always gonna take A LOT for Q to come round but I do hope they resolve it soon. I'd like to see them actually happy for a bit.

Gray Shelter (Korea Thurs iQIYI) ep 3-4 of 5 - they act about 1000 times more like exes than they do like brothers, just saying. I get what’s happening, they’re each dodging around admitting that they like the other person and trying to force the other one to admit it first. So they push up to the line of threatening to leave but neither one can ever actually cross it because they don’t actually want to be apart ever again. It’s kind of fun to watch actually. All angsty bullshit, but hey, repressed boys be repressed.

Living With Him AKA Kare no Iru Seikatsu (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 2 of 10 - Awe K wants to be N’s bf so bad. All the hints are being dropped. But this is Japan, baby boy is NEVER going to get it without being kissed and sometimes not even then. I mean the Weatherman fucked his boy for years and it still didn’t, erm, sink in. Meanwhile, the classic Japanese version of a bespectacled wingman has entered stage right (never lose your childish wonder, Japan). It’s great, I utterly adore it. 

Blue Boys (Korea ? YouTube) 1 of ? No MDL link - on Sukfilm’s YT channel (along with a cute little GL) interesting short series that just happened out of the, erm, blue. Reunion of old classmates reveals that both are struggling with life, but back then the popular jock had a big ol' crush on the nerd. They go drinking and end up in bed - as ya do. This is Korea, so chaste kisses, but still GOOD START. (The GL is adorable too)

At 25:00 in Alaska AKA 25 Ji Akasaka de (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 1 of 10 - Hum. It felt like I'd seen this all before and then Japan dick slaps me with a sex club. Say it with me everybody, "must you Japan?" Let's see how they do but I'm not impressed so far.

Love is like a Cat (Korea Mon Viki) eps 5-6 of 12 - Speaking of unimpressed. Geonu is definitely the best thing about this show. Which is saying something as he’s the idol AND such a minor character. NO SINGING. (Except Geonu, he can sing.)

Takumi-kun Series 6: Nagai Nagai Monogatari (Japan Furritsubs) eps 1-? of 10 - I may wait and binge it.

Lady Boy Friends (Thai WeTV grey) 16 eps - reminds me a bit too much of Diary of Tootsies only high school. Not my thing. DNF unless it turns a corner and is truly amazing.

Kiseki Chapter 2 (Sun iQIYI) 6 eps - It’s so boring DNFed at 2

But as the short stay turns into permanent mooch, how long can Jin Woo keep his true feelings under wraps and hold back from confessing?

4/26 My Stand-In (Thai Fri iQIYI) ep 1 of 12 eps - adaptation of Chinese novel "Professional Body Double" by Shui Qiang Cheng. Stars Up (Lovely Writer) and Poom (Bake Me Please) directed by the same team as KP (not a recommendation IMHO - my biggest criticism of that show was the clashing directing styles). This one looks complicated, lemme try: Joe is a stuntman for famous actor Tong. Joe falls in love with Ming but Ming sees Joe as nothing more than a Tong-replacement. After learning this horrible truth, Joe dies. Joe then wakes up in the body of another man also named Joe. He manages to rebuild the same life as before—with the same people eventually re-meeting Ming. Ming wants Joe back but Joe doesn't understand why. But Ming seems to know what's going on and wants to give him some kind of explanation.

I'm exhausted just trying to describe the plot.

What happened?
