i kind of have this theory that lovecraft in brooklyn is sung from the perspective of three different residents of brooklyn? it’s not fully supported but i like to think about it as i listen. like the first verse is someone kind of on the side of the “lovecraft”, but in hiding about it. the second verse is someone who is completely desensitized to the horrors - “rhode island sinks into the ocean, no place to call home anymore” sounds very casual as well as “too many bloodstains on the ground.” the third verse is someone who has almost completely lost his mind due to paranoia and the horrors. idk i just think about that
