What I find so heartbreaking about the breakup is that Armand is a sub, and Louis was his Dom. Had been for over 70 years.

Breakups are hard in general, for everyone. But D/s relationships involve a certain level of vulnerability and mutual dependence that simply isn't found in vanilla relationships. For a Dom, being broken up with by their sub can be devastating. But for a sub, being broken up with by their Dom can wreak havoc over their entire life. They're used to having a Dom there to tell them what to do and how to live. Losing that, experiencing that vacuum, can make it almost or completely impossible to function, because they don't know how to make choices for themselves.

Obviously not all D/s relationships are that extreme, but Louis and Armand had a 24/7 dynamic, and all Armand had wanted for the 400 years before he met Louis was to have a Dom. Then he finally had one, for over 70 years. And then that got stripped away from him. That need was no longer being fulfilled, and I can't overemphasize enough how ridiculously intense that need is. I've been without a Dom for 13 years, and I've found that much, MUCH harder to cope with than being without a primary romantic partner.

So it breaks my heart to think about how lost and bereft Armand must be feeling now.

After the death of her husband, Prince Ihor, Olha assumed regency of Kyiv-Rus till her son Sviatoslav would come of age in 960. After her episode with the barbarous Derevlianians, Olha spent much time working on the infrastructure of Kyiv-Rus. In 947, she traveled to Novgorod to collect tribute, imposts, and set up trading posts and hunting grounds along the rivers Msta and Luza.

Years later, Olha traveled to Constantinople and met with Emperor Constantine, son of Leon.
