His gaze snags on a bakery display as he walks past. The window is dressed with multicolored lights and garland wrapping around the edges. The display case is full and Alec’s mouth waters just at the sight.

Without conscious thought, Alec is reaching for the door to Bane's Bakery, eager to see if the interior is just as whimsical and welcoming as the outside.

His brother volunteers to be one of the men pushing the boat, but a part of Lan Zhan wishes he hadn't.

Alec could smell the approaching storm, even above the ever-present stench of burning rubber, motor oil, and sun-baked tarmac.

Wei Wuxian finds the whole situation amusing at first, that tiny A-Yuan has Lan Zhan wrapped around his chubby little pinkie so easily.

The bell at the entrance of the shop chimes softly, but it startles Wei Wuxian so much that he nearly falls out of his chair.

The boom from the bass is so loud that her teeth are rattling in her skull, and the harsh strobe lights are too jarring in the near-darkness of the club, but Lan Zhan thinks she's probably the only one who dislikes it.

I’ve noticed that Wei Wuxian is my go-to for POV for my MDZS fic. Also, I tend to start fics with dialogue or some sort of sound, but almost always with sensory input (sight, smell, etc).

I think my favourite opening line is #11 freak in the sheets, because it makes me laugh :D

I had thought of doing so once. Magnus was the big, flashy lead singer and Alec was his brooding bassist.
