Natural Gas Prices May Rise in December
New Post has been published on https://www.georgiagassavings.com/blog/natural-gas-prices-may-rise-in-december/
Natural Gas Prices May Rise in December
What do Rising Prices Mean for Natural Gas Shoppers?
Don’t dawdle if you want to save on your gas rates! Natural gas shoppers in Georgia will probably see spikey gas rates this winter. Check out these great plans now!
As if the power rate turmoil of summer weren’t enough for beleaguered natural gas shoppers, there’s more bad news on the way. That’s because the Energy Information Administration has teased that rising energy prices are likely for this December. And, with more heating days expected this winter, chances are that could continue right through the season. So if you’ve been spinning your wheels on shopping for a new natural gas plan, what are you waiting for? Let’s get rolling! Here’s the best gas plans on offer right now that’ll get you through the winter rate frenzy on the cheap.
Best Winter Deals for Georgia Energy Shoppers
In third place, there’s Gas South’s Fixed 6 Month plan. This one’s a classic deal: not too many bells and whistles, but a good solid offer. The rate clocks in at 99 cents per therm, with a monthly charge of $6.95 to $9.95. Plus, you’ll get $20 in gas credits. It’s not perfect, though: early cancellation will require you shell out $150. And on a six month plan, that means it’ll cost to shop shoulder month deals.
So what’s next? Well, this is where it gets exciting (ish). Because there’s two neat Georgia Natural Gas® plans to watch out for. Word of warning: the current rates expire on January 4, 2023. So you could end up with a similarly sweet deal if you act fast. But stay alert! Natural gas prices could bounce upwards this month, so these ones are likely to spike along with them. So, with that throat-clearing, let’s dive in…
Georgia Natural Gas® 6-Month Fixed plan is an improvement on Gas South’s 6-monther above in just about every respect. At 95.9 cents per therm, it gives you the same mid-term coverage that’ll tide you over in case those shoulder month discounts aren’t so rosy. Plus, the $4.99 – 7.99 monthly charge will knock a dollar or so off of your admin fees. Most importantly, if you need to leave the plan early, the exit will cost you just $50. A neat rate, a low exit fee, and a clutch of neat extras (free carbon offsetting for 12 months and $200 in exit fee credit anyone?) make this a great winter warmer.
Why You Might Consider an Intro Rate Plan
That low $50 exit fee can get a whole lot lower, however, for customers willing to take a gamble! Georgia Natural Gas® is still offering a Market Intro Plan for 80 cents per therm rate. And because it’s an intro deal, there’s no exit fee! The good news? Two months on this plan could spit you out just as shoulder month discounts are kicked into play. The bad news? Well, if rates don’t dip (and there is always that possibility) you could be left shopping around for long-term deals in a far pricier market.
Shop Best Winter Natural Gas Deals Today!
Whichever route you pick, reluctant energy shoppers need to be taking the plunge ASAP this month. Because every week’s delay is going to cost you as energy rates rise. So keep an eye out for developments on the . Georgia Natural Gas® plans above – or dive in with Gas South’s offering. Because natural gas prices may rise in December, so don’t get left out in the cold! Shop them now with www.GeorgiaGasSaving.com.

Report to Texas PUC Plans to Overhaul Power Market
Report to Texas PUC Plans to Overhaul Power Market
How Will the TX Power Market Change?
The Texas PUC has proposed a new PCM plan to overhaul the power market. Find out how these changes could increase your electricity rates!
Back May 2021, the PUC contracted Energy and Environmental Economics, Inc (E3) to assess three long term market proposals (known as the “Blueprint”). On November 11, 2022, the PUC released the E3 assessment, entitled Assessment of Market Reform Options to Enhance Reliability. But instead one of the Blueprint proposals, E3 and the PUC chose their own “hybrid” model to overhaul the Texas power market.
Replacing a Crisis Model
The PUC voted unanimously to pursue this hybrid option called the “Performance Credit Mechanism” or PCM. Under the PCM plan, ERCOT would be a clearing house for power plants that remain on during peak demand. This is different from the current model where ERCOT pays generators more as demand sharply increases prices. PUC Chairman Peter Lake has called this way a “crisis model”.
The PCM model, which some wags called “capacity-ish“, creates performance credits when reliability risk (and prices) get high. Generators and REPs could buy and sell these credits. REPs can later use these credits later during price settlement when rates are set according to an administrative demand curve. The plan leaves both ERCOT and power plants free to juggle resources before peak demand times hit. However, the providers will ultimately be liable to pay for keeping the lights on.
Ironically, even though the PUC pushed for a plan as a result of extreme winter weather, it’s not addressed in the PCM plan at all. And that’s a concerning oversight. However, before anything changes, the Texas Legislature must weigh in as well. The regular legislative session starts in January. So, the public is still a few months away from hearing from lawmakers on the issue. And the final call will come even later.
Texas Power Market Costs
The plan could cost Texas customers $460 million per year. State leaders have balked at the prices of similar changes because of their price tags raising utility charges. In this case, costs will likely land landed on consumers in the form of higher electricity rates. And those things don’t help win elections. However, they are likely needed for a strong power grid.
The February 2021 freeze showed the state could not keep operating the power market as it had before. The proposed PCM plan shows who will bear the costs to improve electric reliability in Texas. It’s not perfect. Home power bills will almost surely increase. But again, doing nothing is a bad option. Deaths and property damage say so.
Public Comment on the Power Market Plan
Members of the public can comment on the report between now and mid-December. Then, the PUC will vote on a final plan. Certainly, PUC members or staff will testify during the legislative session on why the PUC chose its course of action. And, of course, lawmakers will consider related bills which could codify a way forward. Industry players will weigh in as well. The debate is far from over.

Every single licensed piece of LOTR media after the original Peter Jackson trilogy has been absolute dogshit, and I am rather glad about that—it means that as the years go by, the odds of having to endure a remake are pretty low, and the original cultural place of the books will never quite be displaced. I think it also keeps the churn of Extruded Lord of the Rings Product down—unlike Star Wars, where everybody is hoping to make the next Andor or Rogue One, hopefully nobody has any illusions their LOTR project doesn’t fucking suck. And it’s only 20 years until LOTR enters the public domain, and people can do whatever they want with it.
Also helps that the bar is quite high—not only were the Jackson films pretty darn good, the books are genuinely terrific. Star Wars, Star Trek, Game of Thrones, and a lot of other stabs at the Next Big IP are fundamentally medium-to-bad in a way that establishes the bar for a “good” entry in the series pretty low. I like the original Star Trek a lot, for instance, but it’s not exactly one of the all time best written and produced TV shows! Whereas the LOTR books are well written enough there’s a noticeable disjunction in quality even just between bits of the movies that quote them or adapt them closely and bits Jackson made up—and that gulf becomes titanic in the hands of writers and directors who are even worse at Tolkien pastiche than 2000s Jackson (like, say, 2010s Jackson).

Hydrogen Hub Coming to Georgia?

Hydrogen Hub Coming to Georgia?
Hydrogen, the Great Green Energy Contender
Because Georgia must pipe-in all it’s natural gas, developing hydrogen as a clean alternative fuel will benefit both residents and the environment. Find out what all the hydrogen hub fuss is about!
There’s been a lot of chatter in the energy press recently about so-called ‘hydrogen hubs’. You might have caught some – and they were probably wrapped up in jargon about natural gas rates, energy companies, and unreadable stats, right? Well, now’s the time to clear off the cobwebs! Because it’s coming to a state near you – your state, in fact! That’s right, Georgia will likely play a pivotal role in the development of hydrogen as a clean energy source, as we look for the best alternatives to fossil fuels. So let’s take a no-frills, plain-english look at what all the hydrogen hub fuss is about.
What’s so Great about Hydrogen?
You might be wondering – what’s the deal with all this hydrogen hysteria? Well, it’s all about the push for greener energy. Because the switch to electric power simply isn’t feasible in some industries, like freight, aviation, and energy generation. Batteries simply take up too much space! Hydrogen, however, potentially offers a neat alternative.
That’s because it turns out that hydrogen, which produces no carbon when it’s burned, can be blended in with natural gas and still pack a power-producing-punch. That’s great news! Because whilst natural gas produces far less CO2 than coal, it’s still a fossil fuel at the end of the day. So every little less of it helps.
In fact, the glorious state of Georgia has managed to blend hydrogen with natural gas at the record-setting proportion of 20%. That cut carbon emissions from a natural gas turbine by 7%. That’s promising, considering the substantially lower stats we’re seeing elsewhere. Of course, exactly how hydrogen will effect home natural gas usage isn’t fully worked out. One key problem pointed out by Forbes is that low hydrogen/natural gas blends are not safe for existing residential pipes or appliances. All the same, you’ll likely be hearing a lot more about hydrogen and its associated hubs over the coming years.
But Wait, What’s a Hydrogen Hub?
A ‘Hydrogen hub’ is what we call a cluster of facilities where this clean fuel alternative is produced, stored, and put to use. And the US is banking on them big time. It’s doling out over $7 billion to so-called ‘H2Hubs’ across the country, along with a new hydrogen production tax credit.
This funding is likely to prove critical when it comes to the future of hydrogen. As things stand, hydrogen clocks in at a cost-prohibitive $5 per kilogram. And we don’t make it in an especially energy-efficient way at the moment, either. But this level funding, and the commitment by Georgia, could help bring costs down to about $1 in 10 years.
So How Might Georgia’s Hydrogen Hub Efforts Affect Residents?
Well, the idea here is to boost state access to clean, reliable energy. And it’s going to generate a whole lot of economic buzz. We’re already seeing stiff competition amongst the US states to get ahead of this energy trend. This suggests that the industry at large is throwing its weight behind hydrogen as a genuinely dependable, efficient, and prosperous green energy alternative!
Keep Up with Georgia’s Hydrogen Hub News!
So stay tuned, folks! Because there’s big things coming down the natural gas pipeline. Is there a hydrogen hub coming to Georgia? Well, you can be sure our loyal readers will find out – so keep in the loop with www.GeorgiaGasSavings.com!

Best Fixed Rate Plan To Walk Away From Later
Best Fixed Rate Plan To Walk Away From Later
Can You Afford to Leave An Electricity Contract?
Often, the problem with saving money is in the small print. Find out what plans charge the lowest fees and you could save money when you walk away from them when rates fall.
Breaking a contract can have some stiff penalties. If you break an apartment lease, you may still owe the landlord all the rent. When you stop paying a car note, the repo man comes looking for your vehicle. Sure, you can sign up for a new Texas electricity plan before your current retail electric provider contract ends. But when you walk away from your current electricity contract, you usually pay a stiff early termination fee.
If you cough up the cash for the fee, you can walk away without any other obligations. But why would you do this? The most common reason is you can get a much lower rate with a new plan. Of course, you want to make sure your future savings offset that early termination fee.
SO — if you’re shopping for a new plan right now, guess what…
Natural gas prices look likely to come down in April 2023. We don’t know for sure, but if this happens, electricity rates could fall as well. April is a “shoulder month” when prices tend to fall anyway. So, it will probably be time to shop for a new plan. So if you’re shopping plans right now, check out these 12-month electricity plans that might be easiest to can walk away from later.
Walk Away With A Low Early Termination Fee
The Simply Bright 12 plan from Rhythm offers an advertised rate of 19.0 cents per kWh and an average bill of $173. The plan’s pricing structure is very simple because there are no bill credits or tiered rates. Your bill rises in proportion to your usage. This plan is a great option if you want to bail on it down the road because the early termination fee is $10 for each month remaining on the contract. So if you sign up for the plan this month and end your contract early in April 2023, your early termination fee is only $50.
Flat Fee for To Walk Away Early
If you would rather have a flat fee than one you have to calculate for early termination, the 12 Month Usage Bill Credit plan from Constellation is what you need. This plan’s early termination fee is a flat $50 no matter when you incur it. Cancel in any month, and you’re still out just $50.
The plan’s advertised rate is 19.0 cents with a $192 average bill. Two bill credits make this plan’s pricing structure a bit complicated. A $35 bill credit kicks in at 1,000 kWh of usage in a billing cycle. The second is $15 and comes into play at 2,000 kWh.
More Plan Choices
There’s a big jump in early termination fee with this next plan. The Champ Saver-12 plan from Champion Energy Services assesses an early termination fee of $150. The plan’s average rate is 19.0 cents, and the average bill is $172. If you’re fairly certain you’re going to jump ship, you’re likely better off with the Rhythm or Constellation plan. Of course, there’s other plans out there (some with lower rates) but they offer longer contracts and larger early termination fees.
Keep Your Options Open
You may be more inclined to select a plan and stick with it. If that’s the case, https://www.texaselectricityratings.com is still the best place to shop for Texas electricity plans. No matter your intentions, check back often to assess your residential power plan options.
