About 30m north of Gothenburg is a village with a ferry to it's other half on an island which has a 17th century fortress on it to protect Gothenburg's harbor.

Here's all the fun history about the fortress in-case you want to know more. I'm going to focus on the cool pictures I got here.

This is the main yard inside the first set of walls. It's more of a redoubt than actual walls. Those are further in.

Here's me at one of the many gates into the fortress.

To help drain the fortress there were these moats inside the walls that were full of algae.

They used a lot of prisoner labor here to build the fort. This area is the upper prisoner's yard.

This is the view down into the court-yard and barracks.

This is the opposite side of the panorama at the top of this post. That one looks at the town, this is out into the ocean.

The canon batteries up on the top level. These were massive.

This looks down into the inner most courtyard. This area felt like a prison with how dark and damp all the rooms here were like.

Have you ever seen a seagull chick? Well now you have.

I'll wrap up this post with a couple more pictures of the landscape. Marstrand was absolutely beautiful. Small sailing town on the coast with a small 2 mile trail around the whole island. Perfect for a day trip with lunch and ice cream in the middle of your day.
