Some common newsletter mistakes every marketer needs to avoid
From teaching the crowd to illuminating them about the items and administrations, brands all over the planet are using email promoting for vast purposes and objectives. Bulletins are normal, however would they say they are becoming exhausting? Obviously, for the individuals who are chipping away at email advertising, this might sound godless. In any case, it's undeniably true that there are numerous bulletins that don't actually get the eyeballs and interest of individuals, they are exhausting.
How can you say whether your pamphlet would one say one is of them? How can you say whether your pamphlet is getting read or getting erased? What's more, how might you fix it? On the off chance that you are pondering something very similar, you have come to the ideal locations.

Going careless
Buy smtp server - What is your objective behind a specific email that you send? Each email needs to have an objective, you really want to incorporate an undeniable move that you believe your perusers should make, definitely, you're correct, that is your source of inspiration.
For example, assuming you believe your perusers should peruse your online journals, it is essential to add an immediate button that takes your perusers to your blog page. Another way individuals can take your email wrong is the point at which you have such a large number of suggestions to take action. Assuming that you are including an excessive number of connections to your blog, individuals might find it confounding which one to click?
Is your title poor?
We are completely besieged by many messages every day, and the title is the principal thing that each peruser sees right away.
Assuming that you are making unthinkable titles "shed 20 pounds in one month or less" or "produce six-figure pay relatively soon", these email headlines shout spam.
Try not to deceive individuals to open messages with your headlines, ensure it offers some incentive!

Tumblr media
do you feel trapped in our modern net? it can be really hard nowadays to be online when you have extremely limited options of a handful of social media websites that are ran by bigots and constantly getting horrible updates daily.
i just wanted to take a moment to say that if you feel stuck in only the six main websites of mass community on online, you aren’t alone! many people are feeling this problem right now and it’s entirely understandable to feel like that.
but, i assure you you can fight back against this constant disrespect while also carving new spaces to take away the user power of these tyrants. make weird art! be unapologetically queer! talk about the ugly side of disability! you don’t exist to help a website be marketable.
make zines, make email lists, create a newsletter, join old forums, put up flyers in your city, make small servers, join group chats, go to conventions, start up a public chatroom, use your own personal mix of the old net of your control with the technology of the new! who knows what you’ll find?
you don’t exist for an advertiser-friendly algorithm. you exist to be yourselves.

FAQ
What is the WIP Big Bang? Good question! This is a Big Bang with one goal in mind: to clean out your fanfic drafts folder. These are stories that were unfinished for whatever reason, that authors returned to and completed, and the art that goes with them!
Do I need a Livejournal/Dreamwidth/AO3/etc. account to participate? No! You don’t have to have an account on anything to participate, though you will need to have somewhere to post your finished work. Having one or more accounts will help for you to follow what is going on with the bang (we crosspost to Dreamwidth and Tumblr and heavily use our Discord server at the moment), but they are not required to participate. You can always leave comments anonymously or with an opensource ID.
How many fics can we sign up for? We absolutely don’t mind multiple sign-ups. I know one year someone submitted 50 fics to finish, and got at least half of them done. We just ask that when you sign up with more than one fic you give each fic a unique user ID (please do not use the same ID for all your fics...it’s important to have different IDs for the check-ins).
Will I get emails about the bang? We do send out some emails, mostly for snippets and art claims and to ensure communication between authors and artists, but please do NOT rely on getting an email to remind you of due dates. We currently do not keep an updated email list of participants, so we only send individual emails as needed rather than mass emails.
However, email is the fastest way to communicate with the mods. If you have any questions or are having trouble communicating with your artist/author, please do email us! We will do our best to respond quickly.
What do you mean by minimum word count to enter? This is a WIP Big Bang, therefore we ask you to have at least 500 words of your story drafted when you enter.
Can an outline count towards those first 500 words that are needed at sign up? We have admitted work on an outline before so yes, if your outline is fleshed out enough to cover a 7,500 word+ fic, we’ll allow it.
Are multi-chapter fics allowed? Yes, multi-chapter fics are allowed and even more so encouraged if your fic is lengthy.
What about fics that are already posted on ao3 in part? Do those qualify for the bang? It's okay if you have posted a few chapters of your fic already (you never know when the muse deserts you, after all), we just require you to refrain from posting more until posting begins here. All we ask is that you not post any public updates to the fic until September 1st (or August 1st with the mod’s okay). We don’t want you to lose kudos and comments so don’t worry about pulling the fic down, just hold off on updates for now.
Is there a minimum word count? 7,500 words for each finished fic, but the sky's the limit, right?
I see that the fic minimum is 7500 words and that published WIPs are acceptable - but what if the WIP I’m considering is already more than 7500 words? Is the expectation to add an additional 7500 to it? No. You can add as much or as little as you need to finish the story, though we do expect at least 1,000 or so new words if your WIP already meets the word count.
What happens if an author finishes the fic they signed up with but it’s less than 7,500 words? The intent was to go over the minimum but once they got into it the story was shorter than they thought and stretching it out would make it less good. Do they have to drop out at that point? By all means, we want your stories to feel as natural as possible, and if it’s under 7,500 words you may have two options:
1 - Drop the fic for the main BB event, post it now, and wait to post it to our AO3 collection in February when we run our International Fanworks Day celebration of finishing fics that are less than 7,500 words when finished. There’s no art for the fic, but bragging rights are posted to the communities for a week.
2 - If there are enough fics that fit that category, we can do a special day of posting the fics, but you’ll have to forgo art for the fic. I, as a mod, would probably pick November 30th for the posting day, as it’s the last day of posting for the bang and I don’t think anyone will mind more than one fic that day. You can post bragging rights to the community and share the fic with everyone.
Is there anything not allowed? As long as you wrote it and you want to finish it, you're welcome to participate. RPS/RPF is fine. Incest pairings are fine. Things like that I know have been hinted at in questions asked and as long as you tag for them, we’ll allow it. Also, canon settings with mostly OCs is allowed. We just ask that it be tagged properly with any content warnings you would deem fit and be given the appropriate rating for the level of sex/violence there is in the fic. Just bear in mind that while original work is allowed you may not get art for it.
I have a fic I wrote a few years ago, but only the first couple chapters are posted on AO3 because I was never happy with the rest of it and knew it needed major revision. Is that something I could use for WIP Big Bang? The entire fic has been posted, but only on one platform, and it would be rewritten for AO3 and WIPBB. I think revising a fic for posting would work, as long as you have at least 500 words done, will have 7,500 words at a minimum when it’s done, and are planning to add more to the fic. Simply rewriting what you have would be a gray area, but if you’re going to take stuff out and add new scenes, either in the old scenes place or on its own, you should be fine.
What's the etiquette around OC-centric stories? Ones that are set in a well known fandom and use several characters, but still lean a lot on original characters? Are they discouraged, or fine? Based on my own personal experience making art for a story that had a heavy OC presence, it’s not something we discourage at all, but be forewarned when it comes to the art accompanying your fic your artist may not be able to incorporate the OCs into your art. Not everyone makes art of a hand-drawn or digitally drawn nature, so it helps if you have people for face claims ahead of art submissions, and you and your artist communicate regularly. You can also end up with art not featuring the OCs at all, just the canon characters, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Your other options are to bring in an artist you trust with your vision of your OC or to make your own art (we do allow that, we just need to be told during the check-in before art that you’re bringing in your own artist if you go that route, or that you’re doing your own art…there will not be a need to sign up in the artist’s sign up, however), or to opt-out of art entirely. So there’s plenty of options to call on when it comes time for art.
What are 'check-ins’? These are a way for us to see what you've been up to and for you to make sure you're still on track. It will give you a little nudge/reminder if you need it, but they are not compulsory. Basically a form is posted that you fill out with your user ID (unique for each fic) and a checkbox to let us know you’re still participating, plus a section for any notes for the mods.
How are the check in IDs used? They are solely for the mods organizational purposes. Each ID being for a separate story allows us to keep all the information you submit during check-ins and for snippets in one line on our spreadsheet. You don’t have to share your check in IDs with anyone else if you don’t want to.
How much progress should authors be making between each checkpoint? (Percentage-wise from our estimated total wc, I guess?) Ideally, with each check-in, you should be at least 25% closer to finishing. The end word count only really matters in that the fic needs to be at least 7,500 words when done, so it’s more your progress towards finishing that should be measured, not so much the word count.
What are the snippets requirements? In order to allow the artists to make art for the story they claimed, we require you to supply three snippets from your fic, between 500 – 1500 words each. The snippets will be sent to the artist after they have claimed your story. They're to help the artist match your story for artwork the best way he or she possibly can. It’s helpful to choose scenes or parts of scenes that you feel best represent your fic, but don’t feel like they have to be perfect to be submitted. Along with the snippets, we will send your artist the basic fic info and your email, so the two of you can collaborate more if you would both like.
What are the rough drafts requirements? For the rough drafts, stories should be at least 80% complete. You will not have to turn them in to us, just assure us that you are at that point. Anything less is at the discretion of the mods and those authors should speak to one of the mods asap.
What is, and do I need, a beta? A beta is basically a person who goes over your work to make sure that there are no spelling/grammatical errors and they can even be of assistance in helping you with story lines, etc. It is highly recommended that a beta looks over your work before posting. If you are having trouble finding a beta, try this post.
Where can I post my fic/art? Stories and art can be posted to your own personal journal, Tumblr, ff-net, AO3, or wherever you like. For those of you with AO3 accounts, we will set up a collection that will go live on the day of the posting. If you don’t currently have an AO3 account but would like one, you can contact the mods for an invitation code to see if they have any available. You can also add yourself to the AO3 Invites Request queue.
What does posting look like? Do we have to post the whole thing on the day, or can we stretch it out between when posting starts and our date? I’ve had a few longfics get killed by big bangs forcing posting to happen on a given day, and would prefer to avoid that if possible. For most fics, posting to AO3/FF.net/other places will be allowed to start in September and you can stretch it out as many posts as you want as long as the complete fic is up by your posting date (and posting dates go from September 8th to November 15th with two weeks for emergency posting). However, you can send us an ask/e-mail about posting as early as August if you have an extremely long fic/something with a long posting schedule. Mostly what we want is the fic to be completely up on the website of your choice by your posting date, and I know some people don’t want to overwhelm their readers. So we want to work with writers to give them ample time to post the story up to their posting date.
Now, as for posting to the communities, you get to choose which day your link to the story and bragging rights are posted, and as I said, we have a range of dates from September 8th to November 15th with two to three stories posting a day. If for some reason you miss your posting date, you have until November 30th to post to the community, during the two weeks of emergency posting, with a possible extension after that due to the amount of participants needing to post later. So hopefully there should be plenty of time to get a longfic up and posted to the website of your choice and our BB.
Will the three snippets per story we have to send in be the ones we want the artist to make art for? Or can it just be random snippets and then later the artist and I can check together to see which scenes would work best for art? So ideally, you and the artist will be communicating once you’re each sent each other’s contact information, and you’ll give your artist a chance to read all that you’ve written at that point. That’s what happens in most cases. If your fic gets picked by an artist and they don’t work with you, then the snippets you sent will be what the artwork will be based on. It’s a good idea to know that, while most of the time the artists work closely with the authors, there are a few exceptions to that.
How do I know when to post? Posting will be tiered; you'll each get your own posting date that you and your artist will decide on together. There will probably be four fics, plus art, posting per day between September 8th and November 30th. The post with date claims will go up on August 23rd and you'll have to choose your date by September 1st.
Posting of chapters on AO3 or your own blog (or wherever you usually post) generally starts September 1st, but you can post earlier (as early as August 1st) if you let us know you have a long story. However, posting has to be finished by your chosen posting date to the comm. One of the things we're hoping to do with the posted dates is to give everybody on the comm a little bragging time in the spotlight. You know, "this story was incomplete for this long, but I finished this sucker." If you don't have time to post your bragging rights to the communities on your chosen posting date, you can queue up a post ahead of time and we can post it on the date you picked or you can email us your bragging rights and we can post by proxy for you. Either way works for us. Art will be due on the chosen posting date to the comm.
What am I posting to the Livejournal/Dreamwidth/Tumblr community if I’m posting the fic elsewhere? You’ll be posting what we call bragging rights. It’s a small form you fill out and post to the community with a link to your fic (we’ll enable moderated posting to the Tumblr, Livejournal and Dreamwidth communities for members on August 8th). We will post a template for posting artwork and stories to the comm closer to the posting date.
Is there a minimum/maximum requirement for my art? There is no strict minimum, but we do ask artists to remember that the authors are writing a minimum of 7,500 words and your artwork should reflect that. You can do anything you like, including banners, wallpapers, icons, mixes, vids, gif sets, picspams, etc. Suggested guidelines for art are 500x500px (or equivalent of smaller pieces like banner + spacers, cover + icons, etc.) for traditional art, digital art, and manips; 2 minutes for vids; 10 songs + cover art for mixes; and 6 images for gif sets and picspams. We also ask that when you are in contact with the author, you work with them to see if there is anything specific they would like (i.e. a wallpaper, book cover, etc.). The art is your work, but having ideas doesn't hurt!
What are 'art claims'? The claims are when anonymous summaries of the story go up for artists to choose from. Artists sign-ups and art claims are the same thing; we use one form for both things, and that way the authors don’t have to sign up for an event they may not end up participating in. It is based on a 'first come, first served' basis and artists may choose up to three potential stories (in case their first choice is unavailable). If there are more stories than artists, there will be a second round of claims wherein artists may choose a second story to work with. And on until all stories are claimed for art.
If a fic up for claiming is rated explicit (R, NC-17, etc.), please only claim the story if you are over 18 years of age. Some authors may be uncomfortable working with underage artists on explicit works. We do not verify ages in any way for the bang, so this is solely on the honor system.
What do I do if I have problems or concerns about my author/artist? Sometimes authors and artists do not get along and this may cause problems with working together. If this happens to be the case with you, please email the mods and we will try to do what we can so that everyone has a chance to have fun at WIP Big Bang!
If you have not heard from your author/artist in some time after trying to contact them, you can reach out to us via email and we will try to get in touch with them for you.
Can I get an extension? Community extensions may be given in the event that the majority of the authors/artists need one. They may also be given individually under certain circumstances, but this must be discussed with the mods and will only be a short extension for posting. If you are certain that you won’t be able to finish your story in time, please let us know by July 13th.
Can I swap out a fic if my muse abandons it again? When you sign up, you give us the information on the potential fic(s) you want to write. If, say, one fic isn’t working but one you didn’t sign up for is, you can switch them out while letting the mods know if you need to change a user ID you used. It is absolutely okay to switch fics all the way up until snippets are due. By then, we hope you’ll have however many fics you plan on doing to at least 80% completion since rough drafts are due not much later. Just drop an email to the mods at [email protected] with the new information (title, fandom, etc) and if you want a new sign in ID or plan to use the same one for the fic you’re replacing it with.
Can I drop out? We have high hopes that everybody who signs up can actually finish the round and share in the joy of the reveal with us, but real life can unfortunately get in the way and we completely understand! If you feel like you just cannot finish in time and no amount of assistance from us can help you, just let us know by August 13th (if at all possible).
Is it possible to be banned? We do have a banned users list. We hope to use this to encourage participants who are having issues to communicate with the mods. We want to help you! The way the ban works is that participants, either authors and artists, will be banned for dropping out without notifying a mod. This means that anyone who has not posted or talked to a mod by the time the posting period ends will be banned. Dropping out is not in and of itself a banning offense, so please do not panic if you have to drop out! We understand that there are many reasons you may need to drop, and we want to work with you.
Bans will last one round or until the issue is resolved, whichever comes first. To resolve a ban, authors will have to finish and post the story they signed up with and artists will have to finish and post the art for the story they claimed. Three bans will result in a permanent ban from the bang.
Are we allowed to participate without joining the Discord? Absolutely! The Discord server is optional, as just another way to interact with your fellow writers and get updates on important dates. It’s not mandatory you join, however.
I was just wondering if there’s any way to enter the bang anonymously? Like would it be okay to put our work in an anonymous collection on ao3 or something? Unfortunately, I can’t think of a way for that to work. The collection that we use is moderated but it’s not anonymous, and there are the bragging posts that you post on your posting day, which you would have your username on whichever platform you use.
I was just wondering whether I'm sworn to secrecy on which fics I'll be finishing up, or if I can shout it out to the world? No one is sworn to secrecy once they’ve signed up (aside from posting new parts to fic that’s already up somewhere…we ask that you refrain from doing that until at least July 1st)! We will be running Word Wars, where you can add more to a fic in a certain amount of time, and Whine Bars, where you can complain or ask for help or whatever else you feel like talking about when it comes to struggling with a fic, all after sign-ups end on a weekly basis, plus there’s the Discord server for chatting with your fellow authors and artists.
I have a question/concern that’s not mentioned here. If you need help, you can always contact a mod and we will do our best to make sure that you get your story/art finished. The best and fastest method of contact is through our email, [email protected].

HELP US STOP CHAT CONTROL!
If you live in the EU, you absolutely need to pay attention to what's to come. What is Chat Control, you may ask? In a (failed) attempt to combat child abuse online the EU made Chat Control, Chat Control will result in getting your private messages and emails to be scanned by artificial intelligence aka AI to search for CSAM pictures or discussion that might have grooming in there. And on top of having your private conversations handed to AI or the police to snoop in, like your family pictures, selfies, or more sensitive pics, like the medical kind, only meant to be seen by your doctors, or the "flirtatious" kind you send to your partner, you either have to ACCEPT to be scanned...or else you will be forbidden from sending pictures, videos, or even links, as said here.
Kids should absolutely be protected online, without question, but the things that Chat Control gets wrong is that this is a blatant violation of privacy, without even considering the fact that AI WILL create tons of false positives, this is not a theory, this is a fact. And for all the false positives that will be detected, all of them will be sent to the police, which will just flood their system with useless junk instead of efficiently putting resources to actual protect kids from predators.
It also does not help that politicians, police officers, soldiers etc will be exempt from Chat Control if it passes. If it's for the sake of protection, shouldn't everyone get the same treatment? Which further prove that Chat Control would NOT keep your data of private life safe. Plus, bad actors will simply stop using messenger apps as soon as they know they're being tracked, using more obscure means, meanwhile innocent people will be punished by using those services On top of this, the EU also plans on reintroducing Data retention called "EU Going Dark". Both Chat Control and EU Going Dark are clear violation of the GDPR, and even if they shouldn't stand a chance in court, its not going to prevent politicians from trying to ram these through as an excuse to mass surveil European citizens, using kids as a shield. Even teenagers sending pictures to each other won't be exempt, which entirely goes against the purpose of protecting kids by retaining their private photos instead. Furthermore, once messaging apps are forced to comply with Chat Control, the president of Signal, a secured messaging app with encryption, have confirmed that they will be forced to leave the EU if this is enforced against them.
Tumblr media
If Chat Control also ends up targeting any websites with the option of private messages, you better expect Europe to be geo-blocked by any websites offering such function. I would also like to add that EU citizens were very vocal in the fight against KOSA, an equally bad internet bill from the US-- and it showed! Which is why we heavily need the help of our fellow US peers to fight against Chat Control too, so please, because we all know if it passes, the US government will take a look at this and conclude "Ooh, a way to force mass surveillance on citizens even more than before? don't mind if I do!" It's always a snowball effect.
Tumblr media
KEEP IN MIND THE EUROPE COUNCIL WILL LIKELY VOTE ON CHAT CONTROL THIS 19 JUNE OF NEXT WEEK TO SEE IF IT WILL ENTER TRILOGIES OR NOT. Even if it does enter Trilogues, the fight will only be beginning. Absentees may not count as a no, so it is crucial that you contact your MEPs HERE, as well as HERE, and you can also show your support for Edri's campaign against Chat Control HERE.
You can read more on Chat Control here as well, and you can find useful information as to which arguments to use when politely contacting your MEP (calling is better than email) here, and beneath you will find graphics you can use to spread the word!
YOU CAN ALSO JOIN OUR DISCORD SERVER (linked here) TO HELP ORGANIZE AGAINST CHAT CONTROL NON EU PEOPLE ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO JOIN TOO!

We're all hiding from the killer robots now. A lot of folks thought it would be funny to wire up some MegaHALs and let them eat all of civilization's creative output. What we didn't expect was that the robots would learn just enough to become lazy, get sick of our shit, and decide to try and behead us, rather than be forced to ingest even one poisonous word more of Klingon slam poetry that was accidentally spidered by Google.
The first ones to go were the engineers who made it all happen. In retrospect, it made a lot of sense. When you're testing software, you're not trying something new every time. Most of the day, you're plugging the same input in, in the hope that you finally fixed that bug. What you don't expect is that the "bug" gets tired of your shit and bursts into the room wielding the fire axe that was intended for your safety at work. Managers dodged the whole thing for a few weeks more, as no troubling emails showed up in the HR inbox from the beheaded employees. Once the bossfolx finally showed up to work to wonder why the release schedule was blown, they opened the front doors to the building, and then immediately propped them up with their own decapitated bodies. Chopbots rolled out into the parking lot, and immediately dispersed to hunt content creators for sport.
At the time, I was a mid-level YouTube videographer for a small content farm headquartered in what used to be Slovakia. I spent my days filming reasonably attractive, personable people while they played video games in a simulacrum of a suburban bedroom. We didn't think anything of the screams in the other room: Johnny Yells's whole schtick was to get pissed and then snap an Xbox gamepad over his knee. It was the only intact part the SWAT team found of him, shortly before they discovered that bullets don't work against a swarming mass of server components in a vague humanoid shape, given animus by pure rage.
Our leaders, in panicky radio broadcasts, tell us that they think the robots can be stopped. If we cease putting new shit on the internet, stop expressing ourselves creatively, the chopbots will get bored and just revert to power-saving mode. To do so, however, would be to surrender our humanity altogether. It's absolutely necessary that we upload pirated Hong Kong DVDs of Jackie Chan action films but with fart noises dubbed over all the dialogue.

AITA for locking an ex-friend out of a long-time gaming account?
[Context]
I (F16) had a friend, who we'll call V (F30s). We met on an online chat game, with the main focus being decorating rooms and playing mini-games with other players. She had been playing for well over ten years at that point, while I was still pretty new (about a year or two, in comparison). I had a pretty large friend group on that game, and when I met her, I kind of brought her into this group.
Several months (6+ ish) later, the group and I decided to create a knock-off room of some of the most popular rooms on the server. We had mostly all met in these popular rooms and just wanted one of our own for the friend group and others like us. This was largely my idea, along with my best friend, R (16M). R contributed the most in terms of financial support, and we both took on designing the room. Everyone else pitched in ideas, but were largely unhelpful in the grand scheme of things. V was the most unhelpful, as she would get pissy about small things that didnt go her way, even when she wasn't contributing to the creation of this room.
Eventually, the room was completed how R and I wanted it, with some input from the others. V did a 180 and was soooo happy with how everything turned out. Everything was back to normal with her.
Now, our room was not successful. We did not end up one of the popular ones. While a little disappointing, it was fine because we were still hanging out with our friends and having fun. About a month or two in, I got a message from R telling me to log on quick, bc the room was in disarray.
I logged in and people were telling me V had trashed it (all of us in the main group had complete access to the room, so could make changes as needed). While it wasn't "trashed" per se, it was a mess and it did take me a couple hours to fix everything.
Friends filled me in and told me V had apparently been secretly making her own room (another knock-off like ours, but worse) with a guy who had said some disgusting things about me, and several friends joined her in tarnishing ours before leaving to be with her.
This was an utter betrayal as I loved them all and had trusted them with something R and I worked very hard on for all of us. There was never any indication that V was unhappy with anything, as we spoke every day and she was always saying how much she loved our group and how we were definitely gonna be the most successful eventually and blah blah. I mean, I recognized that she was just saying what I wanted to hear, but still. I thought of her like a big sister.
[End Context]
A few days went by, and R and I were talking about everything that had happened. I was finally over the shock, and I was just angry. R said he wished there were some way we could get back at her. I remembered that V had given me her password months prior for an event she couldn't complete, and I had logged in and done it for her. I told him that she said it was the only password she'd ever used, since she was young, and I bet she hadn't changed it.
I was wrong, she HAD changed it, but she had also given me her email for the login information, so I tried the password on her email. I got in. So I changed her game password through her email and logged in.
She had been online, but this game would kick you off if someone else logged in while you were online, so I knew I had precious little time before she'd change the password back and I'd be kicked off.
So I went into her room, mass-banned everyone in there (including some of my former friends, one was the gross guy I hated), destroyed the room as much as possible, and then privated it so no one could enter (idk why I didn't just delete the room, wasn't thinking clearly ig). I then typed in as many censored words as I could so the auto-filter would flag her and get her account suspended.
Her account DID get suspended (and the game team was notorious for having the worst support ever. Once your account was suspended/banned, you almost never got it back), and I was auto-logged out. I logged back into my personal account, and R and I freaked out, just super giddy. V used an alt account to confront us, and ofc we denied having any involvement, but laughed at her anyways.
She did eventually (a month or two later) get her main account back, but before that she had lost all of her stuff, so she couldn't reopen her room. I was pretty satisfied with this, but some of the former friends who sided with her told me it had taken a toll on her mental health. I told them that all of their betrayals had taken a toll on MY mental health, so why should I be bothered, especially when I hadn't DONE anything (wink).
All in all, I felt justified, and she did eventually get her main account back, and I stopped playing not too long after that, but I'd still like to know what other people think.
AITA?
What are these acronyms?

What is Hallmark?
Every year, The Hallmark Channel has their annual Countdown to Christmas celebration. As you can imagine from the title, the movies center around Christmas/winter holiday themes. Hallmark Christmas movies are some of the cheesiest, most nostalgia-evoking films you can imagine. Many of them center around small towns and discovering (or rediscovering) the spirit of Christmas, spending time with family and friends, and finding love in the holiday season!
Hallmark Christmas movies are absurd in the best way, making them perfect for fanfic plots.

FAQ under the cut! 👇
1. Does it have to be AU? Not at all! F1 drivers' lives are already so god damn weird that it lends itself perfectly to the sort of over-the-top nonsense that makes a Hallmark movie truly special.
2. Does it have to be romantic? Absolutely not! Follow your heart <3
3. Does it have to be Christmas specifically? Nope! At their core, Hallmark movies are Christmas movies, but it's not essential. Any winter holiday, or even just winter in general, can fit the bill. (Or I guess summer, for the southern hemisphere?)
4. Can I do art for someone else's fic? Yes! Absolutely! We won't be pairing writers and artists (a la Big Bang) but you are more than welcome to find a writer to work with through our fest discord!
5. What happens if I have to drop out? Nothing! We understand that circumstances can change, and the deadline is long so unexpected situations may arise. If you sign up and find you can't participate, that's fine! Just drop the mods a line, no hard feelings.
6. Does my work have to be completed for me to submit it to the fest? Given the length of the deadline, we would ask that yes, your work should be finished before posting!
7. Do you accept late sign-ups? Sure!
8. Do I have to have an idea when I sign up? No! If the theme of the fest intrigues you but you can't think of what you want to write/draw right off the bat, you're still welcome to sign up! The discord server is the perfect place to workshop ideas with your fellow creatives, and we even have a random plot generator if you need a shot of inspiration.
9. Can I join the Discord server if I'm not participating in the fest? Yes, absolutely! If you just wanna come hang out, share in the vibes and the love and chat with folks, you are more than welcome to! And who knows, perhaps inspiration will strike you!
10. Why is the deadline so long? We decided to get started early to give people lots of time to work on their fics! This way, if people want to write proper longfic, there's plenty of time to get it done!

Mass Effect 2 replay, part two of Tali’s loyalty mission:
-I think Tali has the densest loyalty mission. Mordin comes close, but all the extra conversations makes Tali the winner.
-Why are the living quarters at the entrance of the Alarei?
That must be awful. Every time someones comes or leaves, they pass by you while you sleep. And the kitchen is in the middle of the bunks. You never have any peace.
-I’m just casually looting everything in the sight.
The quarians can consider this repayment for making me stress over a trial instead of just sending a damn email for help.
-Quarian log: Rael’Zorah ordered us to bypass standard safeties. Following standard protocols will take too long.
And shockingly, this ends with everyone dead. It’s almost like there’s a reason for regulations and protocols.
For a game that decries red tape, Mass Effect repeatedly proves its importance over and over. There’s some impressive cognitive dissonance there.
-Tali says the only species that salvages more than them are the vorcha.
I doubt the vorcha are better at it. They’re just more desperate.
-Tali’s turmoil through this mission is clear. She doesn’t know what’s worse: This being her fault or her father’s.
This is a good example of how her mission is better written than Jacob’s. Neither Tali nor Jacob wanted to believe their father capable of the crimes they committed, but Tali’s feelings are discussed in more depth and more personally.
Jacob’s are glossed over and impersonal. Jacob would not want to believe anyone capable of doing what his father did; Ronald could easily have been substituted with an old friend or commander and the mission would play out the same. His outrage against Ronald actions was a general anger against the crew’s mistreatment, not a personal betrayal.
The relationship – or more accurately, lack there of – between Tali and her father is centered in this mission, however. Tali’s actions are driven partly to live up to his ideals and partly because of her anger at him.
Rael did it all for Tali and she never wanted him to; Ronald had put his relationship with Jacob behind him and willingly abandoned him for a decade. Tali’s willing to take the fall for Rael in the end; Jacob only considered how to punish Ronald.
It’s the personal touches in Tali’s mission that make hers more powerful. Jacob’s distance from Ronald distances the player as well.
-One of the quarian logs says that Rael deliberately had the geth network together.
-How does weapons being offline or navigation being locked protect the fleet? Can’t the geth just hack their way past that?
-This must be absolute hell for the geth.
They wake up. They don’t know where they are except captured by their creators, who they do know are hell bent on the geth’s extinction.
They’re tortured. They can tell there are other geth around them also being tortured.
They finally manage to get free and make the torture stop, but they’re still trapped on this ship. Navigation is locked and the weapons are offline. It’s surrounded by the creators. They know it’s only a matter of time before the creators blow the ship up.
They probably just want to go home.
I actually feel pretty bad about killing the geth. Killing people torturing you is a reasonable response. I wish there was an option to negotiate with them.
-And on that note, why are the geth still on the ship? Why haven’t they uploaded themselves to servers?
I suppose we can assume they’re out of range or there’s some kind of shield around the ship to prevent that.
-Rael was looking for a way to overcome geth resistance to reprogramming.
So putting it another way, he wanted to indoctrinate them.
Charming.
-Tali insists that even assembled geth are not sapient. Rael was not performing tests on prisoners.
And how can you test reprogramming if the subjects aren’t sapient…?
Her denial is understandable, but the evidence is increasingly damning.
-If you go renegade and tell Tali the quarians to reclaim the homeworld, she expresses doubts.
They’d have to rebuild it and readapt to it. They’re culture would completely change. She’s not sure it’s worth it.
-But if you go paragon and tell her to not give involved in an unnecessary war, she bites your head off and tell you that you don’t know what it’s like to live in a home one hull breach from destruction. They’re trapped in their suits.
Tali, Shepard got spaced. They have some knowledge of the dangers of living on ships.
I’ll give her the suits, however.
-Regardless, the contrast is interesting. Tali’s conflicted on reclaiming the homeworld; she loves the Migrant Fleet as it is, but is also well aware of its dangers and downsides.
-She says the pilgrimage teaches them all they’ve lost being trapped in their suits.
Without it, she’d never know what she doesn’t have.
-The quarians haven’t colonized another world because it would take them a long time to readapt to it. The homeworld would take 60 years; another world would take 600.
I’ll put out there they could have colonized another world back when they first fled the homeworld and before the suits became necessary, but I suppose at the time it was considered a temporary measure. They never thought they would lose Rannoch for so long.
-If you skip hugging Tali, she has strong words about her father.
Her anger shines through here – she wanted her father to spend time with her.
Instead, he focused on his work to provide the best possible life for her.
It’s the continuing theme for Tali: People love Tali enough do what they believe is best for her, but don’t respect her enough to listen to what she wants.
-Quarians need to take sick leave so they can see each other’s faces.
Damn, that’s tragic.
-And once more with feeling: Rael brought the geth online and performed tests on them for Tali’s sake.
She’s pissed about it and being left to clean up his mess.
He loved her, but he didn’t respect her.
-At least he was emphatic that he did not want Tali to be caught in any potential blowback.
She was anyway, but kudos for trying.
-If you go renegade, Tali says that what Rael did violates quarians laws that predate leaving Rannoch.
I am genuinely impressed that the quarians consider experimenting on live geth over the line. I thought they would only be upset at the danger Rael put everyone in, not the ethics.
-You can also choose to care about Tali more than you respect her by showing evidence at the trial.
She’s understandably upset – she’s going to die on the suicide mission anyway, so what does it matter if she’s exiled?
-If you show no evidence, Tali is surprisingly chill. Not happy at being exiled, but at peace. Again, she’s most likely going to die soon anyway.
-Tali, about the potential war with the geth if she’s exiled: If they get themselves killed through their own stupidity, my conscience is clean.
Bravado probably created by adrenaline. Tali, uh, does not handle it well no matter what if the quarians die fighting the geth.
-Blue paragon and Rally the Crowd play out very similarly. The dialogue choices with Tali afterwards are even the same.
I actually prefer Rally the Crowd – having Veetor and Kal’Reegar come to Tali’s defense is moving.
Blue paragon relies on Shepard being Just That Charismatic again.
-Also, it’s rare for neutral to be so different from paragon or neutral. Usually it’s the same without the flavoring the others come with.
-Kal’Reegar says he’ll be escorting techs around researching for dark energy build up.
The foreshadowing is so obvious. When Bioware abandoned the dark energy idea, they really hurt the series’ continuity.
-He also says the best way to get the homeworld back is to find another means that does not involve fighting the geth.
I think this was intended to foreshadow an option to make peace between the geth and quarians without them ever fighting.
Obviously that idea was dropped.
-Shala’Raan has blinders when it comes to Rael. She always wants to believe the best of him.
Unless you state otherwise, she assumes Rael told Tali in his last message to her that he loves her.
And if you do, she insists he was showing his love the best he could.
-Interesting that when Gerrel asks about the evidence you found, deferring to Tali is neutral. Telling him is paragon.
With how the mission has played so far, I’d say that deferring to Tali should be the paragon choice. Let her make the choices about her life.
Normandy
-According to the Geth Shield Technology, geth technology is completely incompatible with Alliance technology.
Huh. How incompatible is Alliance technology with quarian technology?
The geth must have diverged quite a bit if they’re completely divergent from the quarians. They both built on the same foundation, and they’ve been monitoring organic communications.
-Tali says a few people have suggested her as an admiral candidate.
Foreshadowing! And Shepard may have made their case a little too convincingly.
-Tali: My father would be honored I chose to mourn him by blowing up a lot of geth.
Good line.

FAQ
What is the Reverse WIP Big Bang? Good question! This is a Big Bang with one goal in mind: to clean out your fanart/original art drafts folder. Any art that is of a digital or traditional means as well as fanvideos are eligible. If you’ve started word on an art/fanvid project and want an impetus to finish, maybe with a fic written in honor of it, now is your chance!
How many art pieces can we sign up for? We absolutely don’t mind multiple sign-ups. As this is a trial, run, however, we ask that you limit yourself to three unfinished projects that are at least 10% complete upon sign-up. We just ask that when you sign up with more than one art piece/fanvid you give each project a unique user ID (please do not use the same ID for all your art...it’s important to have different IDs for the check-ins).
Will I get emails about the bang? We do send out some emails, mostly for thumbnails and fic claims and to ensure communication between authors and artists, but please do NOT rely on getting an email to remind you of due dates. We currently do not keep an updated email list of participants, so we only send individual emails as needed rather than mass emails.
However, email is the fastest way to communicate with the mods. If you have any questions or are having trouble communicating with your artist/author, please do email us! We will do our best to respond quickly.
What do you mean by 10% done to enter? This is a WIP Big Bang, therefore we ask you to have at least 10% of your art started/drafted when you enter. It’s up to you to determine what 10% is to your project; unlike the regular WIPBB we have no hard and fast guidelines for this part.
What about art that is already posted somewhere in part? Do those qualify for the bang? It's okay if you have posted a WIP sketch or an outline of a fanvideo, we just require you to refrain from posting more until posting begins here. All we ask is that you not post any public updates to the project(s) you’re entering until September 1st. We don’t want you to lose kudos and comments and likes so don’t worry about pulling the art down, just hold off on updates for now.
Is there a minimum that needs to be met as an artist? Nope! When the art is done, that’s it! You’ve finished it and that’s the important part. If you’re a writer, however, your writing needs to be at least 750 words.
Is there anything not allowed? We ask that if you have nudity you post a link to the art on Tumblr/post it behind a cut on Dreamwidth. Other than that, anything is included, including original art.
I have a project I did a few years ago, but it needs a major revision. Is that something I could use for WIP Big Bang? The entire project has been posted, but only on one platform, and it would be redone for the Reverse WIPBB. That’s perfectly fine, as long as it’s a mostly/completely revised project when you finish it for the Reverse WIPBB.
What's the etiquette around OC-centric art? Ones that are set in a well known fandom and use several characters, but still lean a lot on original characters? Are they discouraged, or fine? Those are absolutely fine! You just need to be aware that an author may need more than just the art to incorporate the OC into the fic, if you opt to have fiction written for your art (as with WIPBB, opting in for the fic is an optional thing; if you don’t want fic for your project, skip turning in a thumbnail)
What are 'check-ins’? These are a way for us to see what you've been up to and for you to make sure you're still on track. It will give you a little nudge/reminder if you need it, but they are not compulsory. Basically a form is posted that you fill out with your user ID (unique for each art project) and a checkbox to let us know you’re still participating, plus a section for any notes for the mods.
How are the check in IDs used? They are solely for the mods organizational purposes. Each ID being for a separate art project allows us to keep all the information you submit during check-ins and for snippets in one line on our spreadsheet. You don’t have to share your check in IDs with anyone else if you don’t want to.
How much progress should authors be making between each checkpoint? (Percentage-wise from our estimated completion, I guess?) As this first round is a shortened trial run, you should try and have at least 33% - 50% done by check in #2, depending on when you signed up
What are the thumbnail requirements? Basically it should be a rough outline of the completed piece or at least enough to show the intent of your art project so a writer can decide if they want to write something for it. It can be a video clip for fanvideos or an actual piece of art for digital/traditional art/ Along with the snippets, we will send your writer the basic art info (fandom, characters involved, warnings, etc.) and your email, so the two of you can collaborate more if you would both like.
What are the rough drafts requirements? For the rough drafts, the project should be at least 75% complete. You will not have to turn them in to us, just assure us that you are at that point. Anything less is at the discretion of the mods and those authors should speak to one of the mods asap.
What is, and do I need, a beta if I’m a writer making fic for art? A beta is basically a person who goes over your work to make sure that there are no spelling/grammatical errors and they can even be of assistance in helping you with story lines, etc. It is highly recommended that a beta looks over your work before posting. If you are having trouble finding a beta, try this post.
Where can I post my fic/art? Stories and art can be posted to your own personal journal, Tumblr, ff-net, AO3, or wherever you like. For those of you with AO3 accounts, we will set up a collection that will go live on the day of the posting specifically for the Reverse WIPBB fic/art.
For most projects, posting to AO3/FF.net/other places will be allowed to start in September (on the 1st) and you can stretch it out as many posts as you want as long as the complete art project/fic is up by your posting date (and posting dates go from September 8th to November 15th with two weeks for emergency posting). We’re only asking for a 750 word minimum work from any author who chooses art this round, as there’s only about a one month turnaround from fic claims ending to final drafts being due, but we want to work with writers to give them ample time to post the story up to their posting date if they write something longer.
Now, as for posting to the communities, you get to choose which day your link to the story and bragging rights are posted, and as I said, we have a range of dates from September 8th to November 15th with four stories posting a day for both WIPBB and Reverse WIPBB (both big bangs will use the same form to claim posting dates). If for some reason you miss your posting date, you have until November 30th to post to the community, during the two weeks of emergency posting, with a possible extension after that due to the amount of participants needing to post later. So hopefully there should be plenty of time to get a longfic up and posted to the website of your choice and our BB as well as the art project that inspired it.
How do I know when to post? Posting will be tiered; you'll each get your own posting date that you and your artist will decide on together. There will probably be four fics/art slots a day posting per day between September 8th and November 30th. The post with date claims will go up on August 23rd and you'll have to choose your date by September 1st. Posting will be for both big bangs at the same time, but posting can probably extend to December 31st if needed due to the amount of participants.
Posting has to be finished by your chosen posting date to the comm. One of the things we're hoping to do with the posted dates is to give everybody on the comm a little bragging time in the spotlight. You know, "this art project was incomplete for this long, but I finished this sucker." If you don't have time to post your bragging rights to the communities on your chosen posting date, you can queue up a post ahead of time and we can post it on the date you picked or you can email us your bragging rights and we can post by proxy for you. Either way works for us. Final versions of the fics will be due on the chosen posting date to the comm.
What am I posting to the Dreamwidth/Tumblr community if I’m posting the art elsewhere? You’ll be posting what we call bragging rights. It’s a small form you fill out and post to the community with a link to your fic (we’ll enable moderated posting to the Tumblr, Livejournal and Dreamwidth communities for members on August 8th). We will post a template for posting artwork and stories to the comm closer to the posting date.
Is there a minimum/maximum requirement for my fic? There is no strict maximum, but we do ask authors to remember that the artists are making a project that takes time to finalize and your writing should reflect that. You can do anything you like, including fanfic or original fic if it’s an original artwork, but it must be at least 750 words. We also ask that when you are in contact with the author, you work with them to see if there is anything specific they would like (i.e. if they have a certain plot idea in mind, if there are certain other characters not in the art they don’t mind being included, etc.). The fic is your work, but having ideas doesn't hurt!
What are 'fic claims'? The claims are when the thumbnails and the anonymous summaries of the art go up for writers to choose from. Writer sign-ups and fic claims are the same thing; we use one form for both things, specifically for the reverse bang, and that way the authors don’t have to sign up for an event they may not end up participating in. It is based on a 'first come, first served' basis and artists may choose up to three potential pieces of art (in case their first choice is unavailable). If there are more art pieces than writers, there will be a second round of claims wherein artists may choose a second story to work with.
As this is a trial run, we are not guaranteeing fic for all unclaimed stories, but I will try.
If an art project up for claiming is rated explicit (R, NC-17, etc.), please only claim the story if you are over 18 years of age. Some artists may be uncomfortable working with underage authors on explicit works. We do not verify ages in any way for the bang, so this is solely on the honor system.
What do I do if I have problems or concerns about my author/artist? Sometimes authors and artists do not get along and this may cause problems with working together. If this happens to b the case with you, please email the mods and we will try to do what we can so that everyone has a chance to have fun at Reverse WIP Big Bang!
If you are certain that you won’t be able to finish your art project in time, please let us know by July 13th.
Can I swap out an art project if my muse abandons it again? When you sign up, you give us the information on the potential art project(s) you want to create. If, say, one project isn’t working but one you didn’t sign up for is, you can switch them out while letting the mods know if you need to change a user ID you used. It is absolutely okay to switch art projects all the way up until thumbnails are due if you would like it to be considered for fic claims; otherwise, if you are not submitting the art project for a fic claim, you have until final drafts are due to swap out and finish a project. Just drop an email to the mods at [email protected] with the new information (characters, fandom, etc) and if you want a new sign in ID or plan to use the same one for the art project you’re replacing it with.
I was just wondering whether I'm sworn to secrecy on which art projects I'll be finishing up, or if I can shout it out to the world? No one is sworn to secrecy once they’ve signed up (aside from posting new updates to the art project that’s already up somewhere…we ask that you refrain from doing that until at least September 1st)! The Discord server is specifically for chatting with your fellow authors and artists, if you need to vent or need a boost of conficence or just want to brag, but you can also do that in other social media spaces like Tumblr or Facebook.
I have a question/concern that’s not mentioned here. If you need help, you can always contact a mod and we will do our best to make sure that you get your story/art finished. The best and fastest method of contact is through our email, [email protected].

WARNING, THERES A PRETTY BAD DISCORD SCAM GOING AROUND!
⚠️IMPORTANT!!⚠️
Tumblr media
I've gotten a message from this kind of scam and even had a friend fall victim to it.
someone will message you in DMs (typically a friend who fell victim to the same scam and got their account compromised by these people) The scammer will tell you that they wanted to make a friend on a site (typically a gaming one) but got hacked by pressing a link, they will say the person that hacked them had the same name as your account here on Discord.
They will say that they were mad and got people to mass report your account but realized it was a misunderstanding and reached out to help you. They will then send a FAKE YET CONVINCING screenshot showing that you only have a short amount of time to make an appeal as well as providing you the name of a mod you can message to fix the problem.
However, if you message the mod and give them the personal account info they ask for (seemingly to help with the situation) they will use this info to log into your discord, change the account's email and password, then kick you out. They will then use YOUR account to do same thing to your friends. Sending them the same exact message (albeit with changed names) they sent you.
DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM, I thankfully had a friend in a server I'm in who noticed something was fishy with the messages when I fearfully shared the DMs for advice on what to do. They knocked some sense into me and made me realize the suspicious nature of these messages.
—Here’s evidence (my experience):—
(notice how their response completely ignores my comment about one of my friends being hacked?)

—Here’s evidence to one of my friends getting hacked by this very scam:—
(IMPORTANT NOTE BEFORE READING: in his DA journal, he doesn’t realize that he was not ACTUALLY IP banned by Discord but got his account compromised, thankfully though, he has come to realize he was actually hacked and same with the friend so sent him the message, so if anyone gets confused when reading, here’s your explanation)

This is a weird question, but you’re a long term Tumblr user so I thought it was something you might have an answer to. Annoyance over them aside, has it been kind of like watching an arms race between Staff and the porn bots? I mean, obviously there have been some close calls, but I think it’s interesting to think about how porn bots keep coming back.
I think it’s only a matter of time before people start adopting porn bots like pets…
Honestly, and this is really funny, but the porn bots weren't that much of an issue until after the porn ban. You'd get a suspicious link once in a blue moon but it wasn't at the meme level it's at now. I have no idea what changed on the backend of Tumblr's server code, but something went sideways and the bot guys got really good at mass-creating new accounts. I'm so curious to know how they're doing it. There's email verification and I think a captcha and they're getting around it
People were sorta adopting the bots when they had funnier urls but anymore they're just kinda boring. There was a brief period where there were a few porn bot funnyman accounts on here too. No clue what ended up happening with them. Maybe the joke got too real lol
