Decorative Sunday

English designer Marthe Armitage (b. 1930) made a successful career of designing and manufacturing decorative wallpaper originally from handmade linocuts. Her designs have been featured in exhibitions, films, and documentaries. After studying at the Chelsea School of Art, Armitage began designing and hand printing linocut wallpaper designs in the 1950s. Her techniques moved to lithography, offset, and finally after 2018 to digital processes. The images shown her, including three original linocuts, are from her article "Patterns from Lino" in Matrix 11, Winter 1991, pp. 81-89, in which Armitage discusses her practice, evolutions in her methods, and her homage to William Morris. Today she is represented by the wallpaper design company Hamilton Weston. Armitage is a member and a former Master of the venerable Art Workers' Guild, which had its origins in the late 19th-century Arts and Crafts Movement.

I had a dream set in an enormous victorian-style school that me and my friends were attending. We noticed that things were strange around the school, like the staff rarely being present and the other students seemingly not having minds of their own. I snuck around and learned from a professor that this school and everyone in it was trapped inside of a giant Matrix-style simulation, and that I was the One who would help free everyone.

It was also gradually revealed that we were in an alternate universe of the Kirby games. The Squeaks were a gang, Gooey was the king of the school, and King Dedede was a student. Gooey and Dedede were also butch lesbians (not a couple though). Most importantly, the Dark Matter clan was running the school and keeping everyone trapped.

Me and my friends searched the school for secret passages and information about how to escape and defeat Dark Matter. One of the secret passages I was looking for was hidden in a wall and could only be spotted by standing from a specific angle so that pieces of art hanging fron the ceiling aligned to show the outline of the door.

We kept breaking up to explore and meeting back up again to discuss our findings at inconspicuous times, like between classes. I also met a girl who seemed to not be under Dark Matter's control like me and my friends, and we ended up falling in love when she joined our group.

At the end of the dream I somehow boarded a plane where several Kirby characters were, and Dedede steamrolled through another character who had accosted me to talk to me about me and my group's actions.
